All useful functionality is missing or broken.

It’s like the devs were given specific instructions not to include any functionality people might actually want. - Gimmicky “recipes” you’ll probably use once for the novelty and never touch again? Check. - Setting the temperature? Nope. - Setting the time? Of course not. - Preheat? You wish. - Stopping the oven? Yes! - oh wait it just throws as error. - And even if one of their preset options happens to do what you want, you can forget about anything useful like starting the preheat from the couch, or scheduling your toast so it’s ready when you get up, because the oven won’t START unless you press the button on the front of it in such case you might as well not even bother with BrevilleCooking in the first place. Only useful thing I’ve found it does so far is show how much time is left and notify you when it’s done. The stupid thing is it clearly *can * do all those other things but the functionality has been deliberately not provided. Remote start I assume they think I’m just too stupid not to burn my house down. Why you can’t do something basic like set a specific time and temperature instead of hoping BrevilleCooking has the food in its list and trusting its judgement, I have no earthly idea. As it stands it feels like I mostly just lit $100 on fire by upgrading to the “smart” version of the oven. Honestly it just makes me wish the June oven wasn’t perpetually out of stock.

I just want a button. Please just give me a button.

I switched from a legacy Joule to the new Breville one. The device’s performance is identical to the old one, and BrevilleCooking is infinitely worse. I just want to be able to turn on my sous vide to the right temperature. Give me my button back. This is a disaster. I dont need a recipe. I know how to cook. I didn’t spend $250 for a recipe app. I just need the time and temp with one big red button right up front that I don’t need to scroll to find. I don’t understand the UX trend toward adding clicks and scrolling and other complicating factors to a formerly well-functioning app, but if I were giving out awards for making things far more complicated than they need to be, Breville would get the goldest of all the medals. This is an absolute unmitigated disaster of an app. Making the UX more complicated is *never* what the customer wants. Ever.

UPDATE: I want to click “Basic chicken breast” and have a button at the very top that will take me to the cooking temp selector. I don’t want to have to scroll through a recipe to find the button inline with the text. Moreover, I don’t want to need to tell professional UX designers how to intuitively design a product, and I especially don’t want to rely on a public review board to do so!

Joule is my first WiFi-enabled Breville appliance.

Unfortunately, this is not a useful app. If you want to preheat the oven, you have to go to the front panel of the oven to “confirm” the preheat. That is just silly and defeats the purpose of BrevilleCooking . I’ve already started using the oven the same way I did with my last Breville toaster oven - as if BrevilleCooking doesn’t exist. There are other issues as well, like no customizations for app notifications. I am very impressed with the oven (and with all my other Breville appliances) but the Breville app… not so much. I haven’t used BrevilleCooking recipes yet, so maybe that will improve my opinion somewhat but, if BrevilleCooking cannot handle basic oven functions well, I doubt it would add more than 1 star.

This app needs a lot of work

I am really frustrated with BrevilleCooking. It is so constraining and I don’t even understand yet if I am doing something wrong or BrevilleCooking is just poor. One example is that when I set the Joule to preheat, it just starts cooking as soon as it has reached temp. This is frustrating because I haven’t necessarily added the food and prefer not to stare at BrevilleCooking while trying to prepare my dinner in anticipation of it reaching temp.

I also can’t stop the cooking once it starts, and it doesn’t tell me how long the cook time was supposed to be, so I have to guess at how long I have left to cook.

I truly urge your app development team to do extensive usability testing with everyday users. Take and incorporate their feedback. It will make this tool so much more valuable. As of now I would NOT recommend someone buy a Joule based on the UX of BrevilleCooking .

false advertising for autopilot! even after updates

Was so excited when i got the breville air fryer pro bc of the multiple settings and the way the advertisement tells you you can do multiple settings to achieve an end goal (eg. prove, bake, keep warm for amazing croissants)

they have added a remote start and stop which is good but not enough!! we should be able to queue up multiple settings in BrevilleCooking and set times for those features!! it’s totally misleading advertising and a logical person has half a mind to bring a false advertising lawsuit because this is a $600 oven and even after the update it still doesn’t even do what it advertises!! my air wrap doesn’t make false app claims and costs the same, it does what it says it will do and doesn’t claim to have more options.

real home cooks make their own recipes, it’s cute breville has suggestions, but you shouldn’t have to follow them to use autopilot. in a tesla autopilot is told the destination and uses its programming to get you there, you should be able to tell your breville to do the same as it advertises.

otherwise great product and cooks everything evenly and great but for many months i wondered why even have BrevilleCooking bc all it was was recipes and a timer. love the remote start and stop but feel like that and more should have been in BrevilleCooking before the air fryer pro was even released!!

will happily leave a more glowing review when i can tell autopilot what to do!!

Neat recipes, lacks customization

The oven is awesome. BrevilleCooking is ok though.

I love the many recipes and clips for each steps and autopilot. However I dislike the smart feature and lack of customization.

Smart Feature: Unlike the sous vide one cannot start the oven remotely because you physically have to press start on the oven. I can understand this feature is for fire safety, but it is a feature I love about their sous vide. Maybe the oven doesn’t have built in safety features to allow remote start. It may appear in the next generation oven.

Here are my 3 reasons where BrevilleCooking lacks in customization.

1)The autopilot is awesome, but only works for the designated recipes in their app. There is no way to create your own autopilot or alter existing ones which is a huge bummer. The autopilot was my main reason to buy the oven.

2)You also cannot save your own presets in BrevilleCooking . For instance one buys a product without air fryer instructions and after some trial and error you find the best settings to cook it. Write it down because you can’t add it to app. There is a favorites section but that’s for in-app recipes you liked.

3)Another lack of customization is that you cannot alter the serving size of a recipe as one would find in other apps like InstantPot. If you wanted to make their like rotisserie chicken with a Cornish hen you may end up overcooking it.

I hope a future update will resolve these issues.

Nice approach. Missing Integrations

BrevilleCooking has a lot of content and some nifty features which are useful whether or not you have a Breville product.

Great that BrevilleCooking uses curated content from sources like Breville’s own Test Kitchen, The New York Times, America’s Test Kitchen, Sur La Table, and others - but one glaringly lacking feature is the inability to integrate the various cooking platforms for access to saved recipes in the same way Sonos allows access to playlists or favorites stored in Apple Music, Pandora, SiriusXM and numerous other music platforms all from within the Sonos app.

My biggest wishes are support for Apple’s HomeKit, Siri, and an iPad version of BrevilleCooking .

Good app for trying new recipes

New app update fixed my issues below. Now I just see recipes designed for my Smart Over Air Fryer Pro.

_______

I own a $400 Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro. When I first learned about BrevilleCooking, I was super excited! How exciting that Breville is supporting their high end kitchen products with custom recipes! I scanned the bottom and registered it which was successful in BrevilleCooking . Now I will get customized recipes for my Smart Oven Pro! So imagine my disappointment when every recipe said it was EXCLUSIVE TO or OPTIMIZED FOR the $600 Joule oven. What a joke! My $400 Breville SOP can do the exact same functions just not quite as automated. I finally discovered that some recipes have in “tiny font” that “You have a device that can cook this. Select this.” underneath the large Joule oven font & picture. I selected my SOP, but I have to do this every single time! Thanks for stabbing me in the back Breville! I will currently never buy a Joule bc by then you will probably be upselling me on the next model. Recommendation: Please Breville support all of your Smart Oven customers! When a customer enters in a supposedly compatible oven model, filter out the incompatible recipes. Automatically switch the recipes to use oven the user registered. Give them a decent experience! Of course, throw in the very occasional ad for the new model. These are the very basics of how you win and keep customers.

Moved from the old Joule Sous Vide app

I just switched from the old Joule app when I got the Joule Sous Vide Turbo and there are a lot of nice UI updates that I like. Having the current cook available at the top right has been really helpful. There are a couple of improvements that I would love to have considered: I wind up cooking a lot of similar meals, like chicken breast or New York strip steaks. At this point I know all of the steps and I follow them, so it would be great to skip right to setting the time for cooks that I’ve already completed. Currently it feels like it includes a few unnecessary taps and scrolling. BrevilleCooking seems like a great use of iOS features, like Live Activities or the upcoming interactive widgets! Seeing the current status of preheating and the current cook would be great—especially for autopilot cooks. Overall, BrevilleCooking is great. So keep up the great work!

The perfect cook every time!

I get the perfect medium-rare steak every single time with the Joule Sous Vide since you can fully control the temperature through their app, which is easy to use, giving you alerts and tracking your progress. I also love making a big batch of soft-boiled eggs, you’ll get the most precise cook, with the yolks super runny and the whites completely set. I sometimes have a hard time controlling the temperature over the fire for soft-boiled where the whites aren’t the slightest bit runny. The Sous Vide paired with BrevilleCooking sets you up for success, with lots of visuals in BrevilleCooking to make it a successful cook every time. I also appreciate the magnetic base so you can just put it in any pot without clips.

So easy to cook a perfect steak!

BrevilleCooking gave me confidence to cook steak because I didn’t have to worry about over or under cooking the steak. I made filet mignon via Sous Vide using a “turbo” recipe on the Breville + app. I was able to select the size of my steaks, choose my preferred temperature, and BrevilleCooking started a timer and sent alerts to my phone. Dinner came together more efficiently because I was able to prepare my side dishes while the steak was cooked hands-off. This was my first time using the device and BrevilleCooking . I was impressed with how easy the process was. I was able to quickly pair my device with BrevilleCooking , select the recipe I wanted, and follow the recipe steps. I recommend the Turbo Joule Sous Vide and the Breville + app!

Love Breville+

The Breville+ app has completely transformed the way I approach cooking and using my Breville appliances. From the intuitive design to the endless array of features, it’s clear a lot of thought went into making BrevilleCooking a seamless companion for home cooks.

What stands out most is BrevilleCooking ’s personalized guidance. The step-by-step recipes, tailored to my specific Breville appliance, make even complex dishes feel accessible. It’s like having a pro right next to me. I especially love the smart pairing suggestions—whether I’m making espresso or trying out a new sous vide recipe, BrevilleCooking takes the guesswork out of finding complementary flavors.

The connectivity features are another highlight. Syncing with my appliances was incredibly simple, and I can now monitor cooking times, adjust settings, and even get notifications when my food is ready—all from my phone. It’s perfect for multitasking or entertaining guests without missing a beat in the kitchen.

Breville+ isn’t just an app; it’s an indispensable tool for anyone looking to elevate their cooking game. Highly recommended!

Works great with Joule (sous vide) after new update

Did some beta testing with the breville support team and happy to report that the joule original (sous vide, not turbo) works much better than old joule app ever did. Response, Stability and connection are much improved now. With the previous joule app it was frustrating to use as it would not connect or respond well at all and would take literally several minutes to respond to even simple on off commands. Now everything works as it should. All chef steps recipes i am used to are here as well. Interface has also been tweaked and i like that better as well. For example, auto timer is now a toggle which makes more sense and it is easier to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit. Keep up the good work!

The perfect countertop home oven

This oven has so many features you benefit from:
What sets the Joule Oven apart from other ovens ( it communicates with you ) via - Downloading the Joule app plus Alexa and home voice activation 👍
I can set my oven to start and then Joule app alerts me when it ready ( ok oven ready) and then alerts me on my phone Time to check oven.
Also has a feature called a bit more which I love ( food needs a little more time to cook and you touch a bit more and Joule know just how much time to add for bit more setting.
My favorite part is the convection and super convection setting. I can cut my cooking time on most items by 10 -15 min sometimes more ( love it )

How to become the family favorite

We all have that one aunt, mom or cousin who makes their same, outdated, tasteless recipe every holiday season. You know the dish that gets repeatedly skipped on the buffet line?

Yeah that one!

It’s time to say goodbye to awkward feedback or having to conceal your sour face at the dinner table, when auntie Debb asks you how you like her green bean casserole recipe from 1983.

Thank Goodness Times Have Changed!

This may be the best way to enhance your family dinners without hurting auntie Debbie’s feelings.

(Pssst!) Get her a Breville Joule along with BrevilleCooking!

The step by step instructions within BrevilleCooking make sure that every dish comes out just as expected!

Full flavored cooked to perfection!

By far the easiest way to contribute to the family dinner table this holiday season is with a Breville Joule. Everyone will secretly thank you for not having to (guilty) eat another casserole this year.

Bring back the joy of sharing great food!
Auntie Debb & your other family members will thank you

Cooking made easier with my Joule!

Using my Joule Oven has made mealtime easier and more exciting. Recipes that I would normally be intimidated to try, I’m now confident that I’ll nail the first time thanks to the walk-along videos and chef tips! With recipes being added that are curated from around the world, there’s always something different to try. New technology can be intimidating to me, but BrevilleCooking ’s “Tips to get started” section made the oven’s set up a breeze. Being able to connect my oven to Alexa and check on my cooks while I’m running errands or doing chores has been a lifesaver.

Perfect Steak Every Time!

I run a test kitchen and work for a meat and seafood subscription company so I'm no stranger to cooking a steak. I've used the Joule Turbo Sous Vide both on set and at home and it outperformed my expectations each time. BrevilleCooking even makes it so easy that my husband and mom could use it without error. My hubby used the Turbo Porterhouse recipe in the Breville+ app and his steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare (with 4 simple ingredients) in 30 minutes. Whether you're using your own recipes or looking for some inspiration, the Breville+
app is the perfect sidekick to your new favorite kitchen tool.

LOVE my Joule oven!!

The Breville Joule oven is amazing!! I’m telling everyone I know they NEED this oven! It bakes, roasts, broils, toasts, air fries, convection cooks, proofs dough and dehydrates and so much more!

I use my Joule oven every night when cooking dinner for my family. It heats up quickly and is so much more efficient than my regular oven. And with the larger interior capacity, I almost never use my regular oven.

BrevilleCooking is super easy to set up. And the selection of recipes on BrevilleCooking are wonderful! I really like that I can filter my recipes based on difficulty level, type of meal, and length of cooking time.

The fact that I can press the autopilot button on BrevilleCooking and walk away to do other things while my food is cooking, is a game-changer. The oven and app work together to change cooking temperatures and cooking mode required by the recipe without me needing to be by the oven.

And, Heating elements turning on and off at the right time to cook a rotisserie-style chicken??!! AMAZING!!!!

I love my Joule Turbo Sous Vide

I’ve had my Joule Turbo sous vide for a few months now and love how the device is easy to use and set up. I recently started eating meat again after years of being pescatarian and I find the Breville app so helpful in understanding how to prepare different proteins to my preferred doneness and texture.

BrevilleCooking also has tons of great recipes to choose from. The turbo feature is convenient for when you’re trying to get dinner on the table in a pinch. If you’re looking to simplify your cooking I'd highly recommend it- bonus points that its pretty!

WOW!!! Mind Blown

What can I say? I can say plenty. We use the oven and BrevilleCooking at least 3-5x a day. This is coming from a guy with a full-blown kitchen and stove.

The oven heats 8 x faster than my commercial stove, and the chef-designed Recipes make this oven and App worth every penny. You can tell that a tremendous amount of R and D and heart went into the stove's design but, more importantly, BrevilleCooking and Recipes.

My kid loves to bake, and she not only uses this oven but the recipes too. I've always dreaded summer because when she wanted to bake, the Commerical Oven was blasting, and it was offsetting the perfectly cooled house that has Air-Conditioning. The oven heats fast and cools very, very fast.

I love Video-assisted videos that come with most of the recipes. As a Food-Blogger and V-Blogger, I write recipes, and there is only so much you can put into words, so having videos to assist the user is an excellent benefit to BrevilleCooking . Also, I'd be remiss if I did not mention the videos are concise, well-executed, and highly detailed.

I love the Auto-Pilots features too!! We've made the Rotisserie Chicken now 7x!!!

Thanks for making a cool oven and a Great app.
