If from out of country… find another way

I’d give this zero stars if possible. I am from USA and struggled all trip to use Klappið. It wouldn’t accept my foreign phone number, so I had to login as anonymous every single time. Therefore, I had to enter my credit card info every time. It was a pain. And if I bought the ticket too early, it would log me back out after it had charged me. I got charged for about 3-4 tickets that I did not use simply from it kicking me off Klappið at sometime during the process. So my suggestion, if you aren’t from Iceland….don’t. I finally found bus tickets at the 10-11 that was in physical format and you could pay for uses vs. time periods. Do this if at all possible.
Honestly, I don’t know why they haven’t fixed this as tourism is a big part of the economy for them. It’s like they didn’t even consider out of country visitors when developing Klappið. It definitely needs help.

Poorly programmed

Klappið is poorly written. I lead a group 30 or so US visitors trying to use Strætó. Only 3/4 of the group can receive the text message required for linking a phone númer to Klappið . Anonymous login can only be linked to your account on the this app website if you haven't already made that account! If that account already exists it throws a runtime error. Also be sure you don't accidentally type in the wrong email address either. That appears to be a non-recoverable problem. Even reinstalling Klappið doesn't fix the fact that it insists it has already sent you an email. The programmers haven't included the option to resend or change the address at that juncture. Not impressed.

The worst app I have on my phone

Constantly fails to load, I had to reinstall it twice in one single day. I have never felt the need to review an app, but I needed to tell the developers that they should be embarrassed of themselves, and whoever at Straeto is in charge of this should be fired. An embarrassment to Iceland.

Can add my debit card at all

This is the worst app ever it does not allow me to save my credit card and the other bus app does mot allow me to register my phone number. This ridiculous. As an international traveler I never experienced so many issues to use public transportation

Can’t connect my already exiting “my pages” account

Can’t connect my already exiting “my pages” account. It’s like Klappið is treating the connect button for it like a registration function because it won’t let me login and says that the email is already associated with an account.

Use anonymous option

Klappið is so bad bus drivers will let you ride free if you try to use it. QR scanning does not work in the bus at all.

Use the anonymous option under registration if you want to pay for the ticket otherwise just show that you are using Klappið and they will let you ride free lol

Hard for visitors to use

Every time I tried to activate a prepurchased ticket on Klappið, it refused to load the ticket until I connected to the internet. This was a problem, as I’m visiting from the States without an international data plan. The whole reason I prepurchased tickets was to avoid needing to connect to the internet while out and about! This seemed like a huge bug in Klappið .

Absolute joke of an app

I heard Iceland spent 300m krona developing this piece of garbage, what a waste of money. I can’t even register with a U.S. phone number (but I can with Syria for example) how does that make any sense? I develop apps for a living and guarantee I could rewrite this for a fraction of the price in a fraction of the time and actually make it stable. Guaranteed there’s some dev shop behind this that contracts cheap talent abroad, with some bro middlemen taking all the profits.

Don’t bother

App charged me for 2 tickets instead of one and when I got on the bus they didn’t take the tickets I bought for that route and made me buy one on the bus, was very frustrating and they haven’t been helpful about refunds

If I could give 0 stars I would

Literally the worse app, never received an sms text to confirm account (despite multiple tries for a ver 30 mins) then when I bypassed that issue I died to use a ticket purchased from the site and it would scan. Embarrassing and equally annoying. While talking to a local he said there were lots of issues and half the time it won’t even scan. Just a mess of an app.

Does not have option for United States!

Just trying to sign up and there is no way to change language. Despite that I make it to sign on page and the drop down has every country (most of which will likely never have visitors here) yet there is no option for US, USA, United States, The United States, tried to find any option. Nothing! Very disappointing given how much money we spend into the Iceland tourism industry.

Extremely dysfunctional

Frequently fails. I have a year long pass but when I bought a new phone Klappið didn’t work when I wanted to log in. Had to have someone else pay for me even though I already have a year pass. Had another friend try to log in with a Finnish phone number +358 and it automatically changed it to +354. Klappið would be great if it worked. Of course, you can pay EXTRA for a physical card.

Wow. I cannot.

I respond to reviews for my job and total I wanted to update my customer review for the clap. Lo amf behold, my truthul review has been removed. Ok. So. Here we go again.
- language options are sketch - it mostly doesn’t work
- route planning has been implemented but it’s very clunky as compared to the old strætó app. There is no live map displaying where busses are at the moment.
- it is difficult to distinguish between “I want to buy 5 tickets for 5 different trips for myself” and 1 ticket for 5 people in a group
- there is no option to pay per ride without linking a debit or credit card directly to Klappið
- child, disabled, elderly pricing is where? Burying pricing goes against Apple’s policy. Not cool, strætó. Not cool. Instead of freaking out and þetta reddast maybe consider releasing versions that are usable and not bare MVP. I could go on but since I’m an English speaker I’ll probably be ignored.

Terrible app!

Klappið is nearly useless. Frequently won’t load purchased tickets or just spins the waiting timer. Often loaded tickets don’t scan on the bus. I just had a driver tell me my ticket wasn’t valid even though it had an hour+ time left, which I showed him. He spun his reader around and said, “it’s not valid! But another ticket!” Very rudely I must add. I said I had minutes before purchased it, why would I buy another? I tried to scan it again and it finally worked. I showed him the 1 star rating! First rude person I’ve encountered in Iceland.

Inaccurate real-time updates, useless login system

If you didn't need to buy tickets on Klappið it would never get used. For an app that has realtime location and timetable updates, you would expect accuracy to the the first priority. Instead, the timetables on Klappið and estimates it provides for bus locations are not even consistent. And in some cases don’t even align with the buses actual schedule. This can be weighed out of your favor when the timetable on Klappið says 8:35, the trip planner says 8:30, and the schedule at the bustop says 8:25, meaning if you follow Klappið , you miss your bus.

Continual login errors notwithstanding, I will not be planning my bus trips with Klappið in the future.

Worked But Not Clear Enough

I have a U.S. phone # and was able to purchase tickets. However, this is not fully a Straeto replacement. When I got on the bus at the airport, the driver informed me the cross -country bus tickets are in Straeto not this app. Luckily, I could pay with credit card for my ticket

US citizens please read

Klappið works half way decent but is confusing. First I’ll try to explain what to do and then I’ll give a review on the bus service and drivers

Klappið : it’s works ok I guess. You can not make an count. If you try, it sends a text the God himself and you will never receive the text until maybe after you die. Instead, do the guest login. When you do this, purchase the tickets the day you intend to use them as they may disappear. Also do not activate them until you are ready to use them since they have a 75 minute timer. When you activate the tickets, have it ready the scan. The scanner in the busses don’t read well and the drivers are impatient. That’s about it for Klappið .

The busses and drivers. The busses show up kind of on time. BEWARE to know what direction you are going. My wife and I weren’t positive of the direction we were supposed to go and we missed our bus because we were standing across the street at the bus stop meant for the other direction. The drivers themselves were awful. They were rude and rising and closed the doors on my wife. I asked, “was that necessary?” And the driver just stared at me. The drivers all performed many hard brakes and hard accelerations. They seemed to be concerned with making times over passenger safety. They did not drive with due regard and at best, this will negatively affect the vehicles. Finally there is a lot of construction. Plan accordingly so you are not late to your commitments. Good luck and may the odds ever be in your favor!

App for travelers

Don’t let other reviews deter you, if you’re traveling to Iceland, this is Klappið to use for transit. Although it could be better at saving your information and have a friendlier layout, it works for your travels on the Icelandic bus system.

works fine

I took a bus recently and this had all I needed, two 75 minute bus passes. havent been able to log in and I’m unsure if it just doesn’t send the SMS or I cant receive it though

Tourist

Great app! They’re working hard on taking in suggestions and making it better. Let’s give them some credit:)
