UI & UX = Abysmal Failure. 1P Should Be Ashamed

I look forward to app updates and new versions. Been using 1P since 3 and generally looked forward to updates. Often times, new versions lagged competition, but could be relied upon to add many new and needed features while maintaining a sense of simplicity and intuitiveness. This update delivers what looks and operates like a new app that was released without any user feedback and without any testing. There is no logic to navigating, screen views provide useless info (view options are extensive yet none deliver useful views), and it is buggier than a swamp. Very important features are no longer available: 1P browser gone, cannot exclude vaults from auto fill, see other reviews for details. Sadly, I’m ecstatic with my decision to have not use their 2FA authenticator feature. If 1P doesn’t fix 1Password and the desktop version by year end, then adios. I’ve spent hundreds over the years, but have identified an alternative - year end because of the holiday discounts for getting the new one up and running.

1Password 8 is an unmitigated disaster

1P8 is a complete mess, across all platforms, with numerous bugs and feature regressions that directly affect people’s workflow, even going so far as to directly break them. When said issues are brought up to the developers (including and especially with the two cofounders, Dave Teare and Roustem Karimov), the vast majority are dismissive at best, and outright rude at worst. So many of the issues are documents on the this app Community forums as well as on Reddit that I wont go into each issue here.

Beyond the above, this app 8 drops support for any kind of local vault, forcing users to store everything on AgileBits servers and the this app cloud. In addition, stand-alone licenses have been dropped, forcing users into yet another SaaS subscription.

TL;DR, stay far away from this app. this app used to be the best password manager hands down, but that is sadly no longer the case. Spend your money elsewhere, as there are numerous, and better alternatives out there - (such as Enpass and Minimalist Password Manager).

Modern Times, Modern Ways

You’ll see there are mixed reviews on the design, functionality, and other small things. Personally I think 1P took a big step to better design their app with a “simplified” interface. Obviously to some, this is a “big” change but c’mon… this isn’t the first time any app has changed where things are. Functionality still needs to be noticed as yes, a few things from 1P 7 are missing, but again, give them a month or so to gather analytics and build what the crowd needs. This obviously looks more beta so if you’re not ready to move into something new, just keep 1P 7 otherwise take the big step, download 1P 8, and admit there’ll be a few bugs but new features to come!

Great redesign and features on the web finally added

1Password is so much better in terms of design and features. Love the new simplified look and how everything is easy to get to. It now has watch tower to alert you if there is a data breach or if passwords are compromised. 1Password now makes this app fully completed of all the features the web version had. I only have one complaint and that is once you create a vault you cannot edit it by renaming it or changing the icon. Also there needs to be more icons like a pizza, a gaming controller, a desktop, a mobile phone, a TV, an incognito logo for private stuff and lastly a Logo for Government like maybe the White House or a logo with .gov in a circle… Great App keep up the amazing work!!!

Same core features, new and annoying!

AgileBits claims that they had to move to their own UI and Electron to be able to better deliver the features that people need. That may be true.

For me, I like this app for the super-tight integration and data capabilities. I like categories over tags, I don't care much about cross-platform (and I use this app on Windows!), and don't actually hate the subscription fees for their custom cloud service. Sandboxing does not bother me when I can paste 2FA codes.

After months of using the the experience on desktop, I still have friction. I moved to the latest version on iOS to stay on top of updates, but I still miss the full integration and still have extra steps to get what I want.

A big step backwards

The good news is that this is a new app and this app 7 still works.

There are a ton of dropped feature (compare the settings page for the two apps), as well as things that are broken.

No more notifications support. No Apple Watch support. No this app browser. Dropbox sync is completely dropped to require a paid subscription. I’m fine with paying for a subscription, and have been for some time, but Dropbox sync was rock-solid and dependable.

Vaults can no longer be excluded from auto-fill. The documentation claims the new collections feature can be used to do so, but it simply doesn’t work.

Worst of all, things that were built into the previous version and were fast and responsive now dump out to web views. It feels really unsettling when getting sent to a web page for account management by my password manager. Even worse, there’s no access to in-app purchases. In addition to requiring a subscription, it seems we’re now required to give Agile Bits a credit card number.

Fundamentally, the entire experience does so much less. This was one of my favorite and most-trusted apps and it feels like it’s becoming enterprise software, where the stuff you need to do isn’t implemented in favor of a dumbed-down least common denominator experience.

1st install on new devices

Great update! The new interface is really nice and having the option of customizing sections is a pleasant change. I have installed 1PW first on all my devices just because I feel it’s so useful and offers a clean and easy way to store important passwords, notes, and metadata. I cannot stress enough how important it is to me to have this piece of mind. I look at the subscription as I do my power or water bill; just another expense to give me access to an important utility. As 1PW has grown over the years, the changes reflect little quality of life upgrades that take getting used to, and are incredibly helpful.

A Step Backwards

First I want to say how much I like this app. I have tried several password managers previously and this is the easiest and best. I have been a subscriber for more than four years.

I noticed that this app 8 is not an update to this app 7 but actually a completely new app. That caught my attention and raised some concerns.

*Warning to current 1P7 users: If you try 1P8 DO NOT delete 1P7 until you actually verify that you are satisfied with 1P8! That will allow you to go back to 1P7 if the new app is unsatisfactory as it was for me.

Problem: Customizing the home screen is an interesting idea but doesn’t seem to work. it is worrisome for me when a new feature simply doesn’t work, makes me wonder if the entire new program has not been debugged very thoroughly.

Critically, unlike the previous app I am unable to synchronize my passwords on my Apple Watch. This is a feature I use every day.

I don’t mind paying a subscription to keep an app up-to-date. However, bringing in a new app that seems unfinished and drops some critical features is not my idea of a good upgrade. I will stick with this app 7 as long as it functions, and until this app 8 is ready for prime time.

Decent Redesign from a product designer

There are some key differences between the new this app 8 and the old one. For example being able to tap that search tab really quickly. That said, settings is hidden in an area that doesn’t look like it is a useful button or a button at all. In addition the product team removed the ability to open 1Password with a passcode. And that is why I will be deleting the this app 8 app and reverting back to the old one. For some reason the team thinks that FaceID is more secure than a passcode. Never the case. So now despite having my app auto lock set for 8 hours I have to type in the master password every time because I refuse to put Face ID on my device. I watch my daughter place the phone in front of my wife’s face while she is sleeping all the time. Please make this change this app.

User since 1Password3

I’ve been a big fan of this app since this app 3 on Mac—and I appreciate the work that went into sync optimization in this version. That said, I’m not a fan of the redesign layout in this app 8. They seem to have taken away the ability to rearrange the order of entries within items. In addition, fewer tags fit on screen, so it takes longer to scroll and find what you’re looking for. Lastly, there appear to be a few glitches in the UI still. For one, I try to permanently delete something from the archive, but it keeps trying to delete a different item instead.

Simply the best - IT Professional Recommendation

I’ve been a this app user for at least 10 years, and recommended it to countless friends and family. As an IT Professional, I’m constantly trying to get people to use better passwords. this app is simply the best, easiest way to do this. From being able to store MFA 2-factor codes, to integration with iOS browsers for easy password entry—everything is so easy! The latest update includes some nice enhancements for ease of use and UI updates. this app is one of those tools I’m happy to pay for. It’s well worth it and provides excellent value.

New app would be better if…

I just tried using the new this app 8 app. I like the the switch was seemless, and I like the new look. One of my biggest complaints, is that I would prefer to set my default type of category to display each time I go to the categories section. I would also like it to be able to save the sort option I choose, so that I don’t have to resort the list the way I want it every single time I go to the logins or any of the category options. I’ve used this app for a long time, and the new app has features to make it more user specific, but this one step forward would make me happy.

The App crashes and it is useless

I’m using this app 7 and I love it. I just got prompted to install the new version of 1Password , downloaded it and I was excited to explore it and see what’s new since I already have a subscription. I have signed in and once I tried to open anything, yeah that’s right, literary anything in 1Password , it just crashes and asks me to sign in again. I like the interface though, but I was shocked because 1Password just can’t hold itself and crashes whenever I touch any option and that was frustrating to be honest. A new version of 1Password from a well known company just crashes and is just a disaster. How can I trust this app with my secrets if their app is something like this. This is just so bad, I can’t believe it’s a this app app. You failed me this time.

Mostly Better, But Not Everything Is Better…

I mostly love 1P8 over 1P7 with the true dark mode, ability to customize everything, better watchtower, overall better looking and faster, less useless settings and features like in-app browser etc.

However it is lacking some key features 1P7 had like ability to change icon to dark version, ability to change vault icons, and stand-alone offline local vaults. Just general little things (minus the offline vaults) that would bring 1P8 to be 5 star and better in every way than 1P7 for me at least.

1P8 upgrade disappointed

Sadly, I upgraded to 1P8 and deleted1P7 before I realized that they work completely different and my data isn’t synced when I try to open saved passwords from a website. The links and passwords appear to be there but they disappear when I try to interface into a website so I find that I have to cut and paste to login to a website. Plus you have to scroll through all the login information to find a saved password because their are no alphabet categories that allows jumping to the spot where it should be saved. Very clunky and messy. Perhaps it’s nice for brand new users but it’s a complete overhaul for existing users. I will continue to give it a chance but disappointed so far.

Big problem with “favorites”!

Haven’t had time to fully check out version 8, but the biggest problem is “Favorites” can’t be sorted alphabetically (or by any criteria, it seems). As an example, multiple accounts with the same bank or credit cards appear scattered in the mixed up list and not grouped together. It’s difficult to find stuff. I would have v7 open to an alphabetized favorites list of about 2 dozen items… not possible in v8. I have to open all logins and then scroll through approximately 400 items to find my wanted password. Not good guys. I hope this gets fixed soon!!!

By

Lack Of Local Vaults

As others have mention, this app 8 does not allow local vaults. I don’t mind paying for a subscription but as a subscriber, they should allow for us to have the option to create a local vault. There is some data I store in this app that I don’t want synced to the cloud. I would keep these items in a local vault while all my other data was synced and stored in the cloud. This was a poor decision on this app’s part. I for one use to rave about this app to everyone, but this has to be one of the worst decisions the company has made. I will continue to use this app 7 for as long as I can and when the time comes reevaluate other options if the company does not allow local vaults, even for their paying customers.

Step forward and a step back

Cons:
* no more support for Apple Watch.
* categories are difficult to find
* settings difficult to find. Should be in the bottom tab navigation bar.
* please put text below the tab navigation bar icons.
* removed ability to use passcode to unlock.
* please make it easier to favorite items. Favoriting is buried in a menu for a login profile.
* 1P still does not make it easy to combine separate 1P accounts onto the same plan. It should be as simple as an invite to the other accounts and those same invitees get a refund on the remainder of their individual subscription. Having to copy all your passwords over is terrible UX.

Pros:
* despite the UX issues above, the overall usability of 1Password has improved across desktop and mobile.
* major performance improvements. FaceID is a lot faster.

Being the most expensive password manager out there, I expect a bit better.

Don’t Upgrade Unless you want all your categories to disappear

I am so unhappy with the “new and improved” version 8.

This is definitely the case of programmer ruining a perfectly great app layout with a new and improved version that’s totally not user friendly at all. What a nightmare!

I have used this app since the beginning and never considered using another app until now.

Why do I have to completely relearn how to use an app because the programmers got bored and decided to redo 1Password from the bottom up?

Where did all the categories go, like credit cards, servers and logins? You have to search for them every time you want to use them.

With such a total overhaul the programmer should have at least left the option for “classic” view but they didn’t.

My suggestion is turn off auto update and wait until version 8 has been fixed or replaced with a version that is friendlier.

Or better yet, Agile bits, why don’t you keep version 7 and sell 8 as an option for people that have never used a great program before?

Redesign makes it harder to do key actions

Ok so here’s what I like
- UI kinda looks cool

Here’s what I don’t like:
- when tapping and holding on the plus icon to create a new item, you can’t select a category by CONTINUING to hold your finger down and swipe down into the list, then lifting your finger up after it’s hovered over the correct item. Csnt do that. This is standard practice in iOS 3-dot menus and should be fixed.

- resorting the items on the Home Screen is really slow. It feels like they intentionally don’t want you to be able to drag and drop them quickly. Weird.

- instesd of being able to have the list of categories always be present, and you tap on credit cards (for example) to open the credit cards, you have to tap into your vault, THEN tap the categories icon at the top, THEN tap your category. This slows down use of 1Password .

- there’s a dedicated search tab. We don’t need that. Lol. Just put search at the *top* of the items list like you did in the previous version of 1P.

Overall a big downgrade. Don’t like this version

Buggy Since 8 release

I love this app and have used it for years both personally and professionally. However, since the 8 release, there’s been a handful of bugs that have been a bit irritating. Initially the lack of Apple Watch integration off the bat was a bit frustrating, thankfully they sort of fixed that but still has random flaws where the OTP doesn’t update consistently.
Another issue I’ve been running into more recently on the phone app, if I switch from one app to another and then back to 1PW, it will open a random password file (not the one I was copying data from) as if I clicked “edit”… what’s scary is I don’t know if changes have been made to the password or not… I’ve been clicking “discard changes” just in case to get rid of it but this is frustrating because I haven’t tried to open any other files. This is treatable every time and it’s always a different file. 1PW, please resolve this one as it has the potential to create altered passwords that aren’t correct and could wreak havoc on shared passwords between team members.
Please reach out if you need further details.

Glitched

I spent an entire day setting up this app and updating my weak passwords. I was using this app as an app on my phone and a Chrome browser extension. 1Password stopped connecting to the network, so when I updated the password for this app on my desktop, it did not sync to 1Password . The next morning, I tried to use this app to unlock a website, but this app itself was locked in the extension. So I had to put in the password to unlock my other passwords. But the password had not updated in 1Password because 1Password would not connect to the network or sync. So I was 100% locked out on the desktop. In trying to get 1Password to connect to the network, I got signed out. Then it connected to the network! So now 1Password wants the updated password as well. I have lost access to all of my updated passwords, and now have to spend an entire second day updating my passwords.

Update: this app team is replying to everyone that their review is better suited for the support team. Maybe the support team needs to read the reviews and make some updates? And fix the bug where every time I click “edit” on a login, a random login opens to edit, never the one I actually want to edit. And the bug that causes me to need to lock and unlock 1Password /website for them to sync or update.

I’ll be happy to update my review again when 1Password improves.

Great password manager and customer service

This is an excellent password manager. I’ve pretty much used all the major / popular ones and this one honestly makes me feel the most secure and actually seems to work best across devices. An example of that is when you update your password on one device it instantly is updated on all of them. I know that sounds basic but lastpass, Microsoft and apple password managers always seem to have a problem actually doing this which leads to a lot of frustration. It’s also just the best if you use lots of browsers and different types of devices since obviously apple and MS don’t exactly play well together.

I had issues with Face ID not working previously as I’m sure many others experienced. this app customer service did everything they could to ensure i was a happy. They listened to and acknowledged the issue helped me with a workaround while they worked on an update for their app. They followed up afterwards on multiple occasions. really just took care of me at every level I’m impressed by their customer service and technical support.

I highly recommend 1Password and company.

Fond but not in love

Update: It would seem many of the bugs are being ironed out. I haven’t noticed broken behavior in a few weeks. Props to the dev team for getting 8 back on the rails.

Consider, if you will, this app 7 - a veritable revelation in the realm of digital security that wrought an unparalleled upgrade to my very quality of life. For this fledgling user, 1Password rendered a bygone era of Apple Keychain and the arduous task of remembering passwords an obsolete concept, a mere trifle. But fast-forward to the present, and we encounter the latest iteration, this app 8 - a product plagued with a host of bugs. The search feature functions intermittently, while even the simplest of tasks, such as closing the keyboard in the settings page, appear impossible to execute. Yet perhaps most vexing of all, the upgrade from individual family plan proves to be a labyrinthine affair, with even the most stringent adherence to instructions offering no solace. I remain hopeful that 1Password 's developers will exercise the necessary due diligence to expunge these issues, for the potential for 1P 8 to rise to the apex of its field remains undeniable.

Best password manager

I am honestly confused at why the rating for this password manager is so low. In my opinion, this is the all-around best password manager out there. I’ve used Lastpass, Dashlane, and Keeper, and one or two others, and this one is my favorite of all of them. It has the best user interface, good clean functionality, fast speed, and great ease of use. I have had no problems with it over the past few years that I’ve had it. My favorite part about it is the downloadable desktop application. I enjoy not having to access my passwords through a web browser. I find it easier to just pop open the desktop app whenever I want to access something. (That was my big drawback about Keeper. Keeper doesn’t have a desktop app.) After using this app for two years, I decided to go back and try again with Keeper to figure out why it’s rating is so much higher, and I honestly can’t figure out why. I’m not sure why everybody loves Keeper more than this app. I don’t really have any complaints about this app. This is the one I’m sticking with.

Good autofill, terrible app

If all you ever use 1Password for is autofill in safari, it's actually quite good. The issues are with opening and using 1Password itself.

- Lots of flickering during 1Password ’s opening animation
- When trying to select multiple items, by dragging using two fingers, you can't cross sections. You have to restart the gesture for each section you want to include. Quite annoying.
- When trying to move multiple items to a vault, if *any* of the items already is in that vault, that vault cannot be selected as a move destination. Why? What is the point of this? What's the harm in moving an item into its own vault. The only time to disable the vault as a destination would be if *every* selected item already lives in that vault — then it's truly a no-op.
- After even just attempting a move, the selected items become deselected. So if you wanted to take some other action on the selected items, you have to select them again.
- After copying a password, its three dots menu is disabled until the purple animation finishes.

Etc etc. overall just a poorly designed app (from a functional standpoint; aesthetically it's fine) that makes common interactions incredibly painful and shows that the people designing 1Password haven't really tried using it much.

Should have done this sooner

I was a long time hold out to using a dedicated password manager because I didn’t just want another app to maintain. There is some startup capital you will have to invest (time, app learning curve, etc) but in the end it is so worth it. Love the integrations with browsers and my iPhone. Love the ability to customize password length and special character usage. It just feels better knowing my passwords are protected and randomized for each different application/resource. Now I truly only have to remember 1 password and not have to worry as much about a single data breach at random website exposing all my information to more sensible accounts.

I will say some of the bugs mentioned in other reviews do exist (random crashes, asking to create/save a password two times) and are annoying but I assume the developers will work these out over time.

Love this app

I’m not sure how I lived so long without it. Actually, yes I do. I reused about 4 passwords across every site or app - not very safe or smart. I love that I can have this app suggest and save new passwords, and I can edit the suggested password before saving it. I can save membership numbers, credit cards, etc. on top of login info.

I also love that I can share a password with someone by sending them a link to that specific password. I also have a shared vault with my husband where we save our personal login info, and I save all of my work related passwords in my personal/not shared vault. It works great for us. Now when the bank requires us to update our passwords, the other person doesn’t get locked out. And I don’t have to remember any passwords, except my this app password. Love it!

I’m sure I’m not utilizing it to its full potential but I appreciate what I do use it for.

New app has many more features!!

I’m a longtime this app user and was hesitant to switch from 7 to 8 as I saw no point and things in version 8 is slightly re-arranged. However after checking with support on some longtime pet peeves of mine, they were super helpful and firmly suggested that I move to this app 8. I did and am very happy with the new features. I had no idea they were in the new app. Example-for sites and apps with a user login and then a credit card where before 1Password couldn’t tell the difference, 1Password now gives you the option to update and learn the difference. Works great on similar bank issued credit cards and anything where you had to hand select before.
Many more improvements and 1Password seems to have better system hooks and to run faster than before. Overall excellent performance and update.

1Password 8 has gone to the dogs

I have been a HUGE fan of this app over the years. The latest release is a complete disaster. It fails to work on the basic use case of a password manager - to fill passwords on a form. this app was built as a Mac first app - and it worked flawlessly. With this app 8 it was rewritten to be cross platform so they can go after more users and make more money - and in the process completely broke 1Password . It has not worked on Marriott, Chase or other very mainstream sites. I have tried working through support - who believe it or not blame apple for the problems. Even though their own this app 7 works beautifully. Support basically said we know it does not work and we will not fix it - because it is an Apple problem!!!!! Their solution - here is an faq article on downgrading to this app 7! So very disappointing for what used to be EXCELLENT software with excellent support. The whole company seems to have lost their way recently. Most of these problems are on a Mac - maybe it works on Windows.

Bugs and no fixes

Just trying to switch over from another password app, and it’s creating duplicates of every new entry. Is this supposed to be a feature? If you cancel the add item card when it pops up again after you hit save, it doesn’t save anything. So if you want to add a new item, you can make 2 or 0. Not sure what they’re doing there. I highly doubt the “support team” is the answer to this question. Try your programmers. Good thing I’m still on the free trial 😂

Update: So I contacted the support team as the canned response suggested, there is no resolution for this issue, it’s a bug, they’re working on it. In the mean time, I’ve moved on to a competitor, with a name something like “hyphen-road”… It’s going great over there! Whoever decided to release this unfinished, buggy mess of an app that you’re supposed to trust your most sensitive data to I have no idea. Avoid. Maybe less attention to the canned responses and more to your product and you wouldn’t have hurt the reputation of a once-great app and service.

App is not great

A few issues/bugs on 8. However, my biggest problem is with its limitations. There are many things that you cannot do with 1Password and are required to login to the website. For instance, you cannot recover your family member’s account from 1Password . You cannot export your data from 1Password . As far as I know, you can’t change your master password from 1Password .

My second problem, and this is a big one, is that there is no live chat or phone support. For example, I recently had an issue where my login was working on one device, but not the other. Then I couldn’t log in on the website. Going back and forth on Twitter and/or e-mail is frustrating and slow. Eventually I figured out that if I logged out of everything then I could log back in. Now it’s working.

I’m not sure if I’m getting any value from this app that I couldn’t get from a free service. I’m currently investigating some different options.

Not seeing what’s so terrible…

I switched to this app after using Apple’s built in Keychain password manager for a little while and being left wanting more. Heard great things about it. Come to 1Password Store to see everyone bombarding 1Password with 1- and 2-star reviews, so I went in feeling uneasy.

This is so much better than Keychain on so many levels. I especially love being able to search through my accounts on my MacBook similarly to how you would use Spotlight. I have NO idea why Apple didn’t think to do that themselves. I’m also a fan of being able to have my most commonly used accounts saved directly on my Apple Watch. Super convenient. Haven’t ran into any glitches or issues. So I’m loving everything so far! It’s most definitely worth getting the annual subscription. $35 feels like a steal.

Deleting passwords breaks the app

If I delete a password, particularly from watchtower tab, the UI breaks. The entry has been removed, but it’s still visible. Clicking on it or anything below will now result in a click offset by 1, due to the delete being out of sync. Further, swiping left to delete another entry no longer works. Swipes are broken after this, and maybe thank god since the UI is out of sync, and I’m likely swiping on a mislabeled entries. Also, the delete confirmation to view/undo is SUPER annoying. Massive, intrusive popup that CAN’T be dismissed and stacks. Meaning delete 2 back to back and you can’t see anything on your screen for 5 seconds. What a pain. Do NOT expect to be able to manage existing passwords on the iOS app. Do it on desktop or you will hate every moment of it. So we have a password manager that you can’t manage passwords on. For $7/mo for life. Nice.

Edit: thanks for the generic, unhelpful response that you give to all less than perfect reviews.

I’ve Lost All Faith in AgileBits

AgileBits could teach a masterclass on how to completely destroy a great app and screw their customers over in the process. I can’t believe 1Password was actually released in this state, bugs galore! I guess this is the result of a company aiming to please venture capitalists rather than their loyal customer base who got them here. I’ve lost my patience with this company, it’s been months since they released this dumpster fire of an app and it just gets continuously worse. Now it even edits the WRONG passwords. Good riddance this app! Here, I’ll even do your job for you:

DEVELOPER RESPONSE
Thanks for leaving a review. We completely agree with you, our app is a flaming pile of horse crap. The fact of the matter is that we just don’t care about you as individual customers, we only care about our enterprise customers. Please download and use Bitwarden instead, as all of our developers are still high school students taking their very first programming class. Thanks for the 40 bucks though!

(Nearly) Indispensable Service Wrapped in a Problematic App

I’ve been using this app for a long time and believe it is one of the most indispensable services of modern computing/digital life. However, their decisions some time ago to transition to a new cross-platform development paradigm has been devastating to the user experience and keeps me on edge. It’s buggy and slow and filled with tiny “painful” UI moments.

Using 1P to autofill passwords, I constantly have to tap two or three times before it will respond. This morning I opened this app and was given a glimpse of my Recent Items before it flashed away and presented the Lock Screen. Didn’t make me feel good.

At this point I am anxiously awaiting a future where Apple provides a standalone app for password management. When that day arrives, I am almost certainly ditching this app.

App is horrible

1Password has gradually gotten worse over the years. The UI went from great to awful like they couldn't afford a team and offshored it to one individual in india. If I thought the UI was bad overall UX is 100x's worse. No since of intuition on where and why things are placed in app. Just a bunch of view incoherently thrown together.

Starting a year or so ago 1Password started having more and kore bugs. So I started contacting support. They are probably the least qualified people and it really makes you wonder if this is their support how bad are the engineers.

The company focuses on woke not security or quality.

For example, I go into a app and go to load my password and a giant gray screen with "go to one password app" comes up instead of just inserting login and password like it used to do. Who would ever approved such a terrible design? Regardless of who 1Password remains awful and if you still needed reason not to download couple that with low wuality support or just closes tickets without providing answers or doesn't take the time to read email and just think before replying. They litterally could ask 10 questions in one email but because that would be efficient and efficiency is bad these days. They turn it into a back and forth 1 question per email with several day turn around as the teams in whatever country are on different times.

Rushed update introduced nasty bugs

this app 8 introduced nasty bugs. The worst one is that if you tap on the edit button for an entry, it will edit a totally different entry. I just tried to edit a credit card and it saved my changes to a totally unrelated login. This has happened repeatedly since version 8 was released. It’s deeply disturbing that version 8 was released in this condition, especially since the bugs involve improper state management when editing passwords and other data: 1Password opens the edit window for a totally different entry after you tap on the edit button, editing the wrong data, losing data when editing, etc. This release was clearly rushed, and combined with the fact that these bugs are so frequent that QA surely found them in testing, clearly indicates they knew the product wasn’t ready but they shipped it anyway. For an app that holds its user’s most sensitive information, this is unacceptable and a breach of trust.

Frozen account even though subscription paid

I signed up and subscribed through Apple, yet even though my subscription is paid and valid, my account is frozen. Used the same email as my Apple ID. Looking online, this has been a problem for years. Why offer an option to subscribe through 1Password Store if this continues to be an issue? Emailed customer support at this app and still no response. EDIT: received response from developer, but there is NO option to “apply subscription to account.” Account is still frozen.
Second EDIT: I clicked Subscribe again. It told me I was already subscribed. I clicked manage. It showed an active subscription, but my account was still frozen. I clicked subscribe one more time, but this time just clicked ok. Account is now unfrozen. This was a huge pain, and there was well over 24 hours in between email responses with tech support. Seems to be working now. I hope.

Excellent update!

I have used this app for over 15 years, from back in the day long before subscriptions were in place. It has always been a great, secure, encrypted, password manager.

I held off upgrading to version 8 because of reports with Face ID and such not working. When I learned that this version I’ve been released and what one password was saying about it in the corresponding feature list, I felt it was time to make the update.

Some reviews are less than positive, which brought me concern, and I held off for a day. I’m not sure why others are having such difficulties. For me, the Face ID is working perfectly, the new search field employment works perfectly, and most excitedly, with the integration of this app and Safari on my phone, I have a seamless experience of entering passwords into websites on the mobile device.

I simply haven’t found anything not to like in this most recent addition. It’s a solid updates that is working well, adding value to the ease of using a password manager, and maintaining the quality that I have come to expect from this app.

Great job, this app team!

Seems like it’s still in beta

I just switched from LastPass (10+ years) because of multiple data breaches. this app is included with my eero subscription.

It’s good, not great, and more user friendly than LastPass. 1Password fill and Safari fill work fine (again, better than LastPass).

The LastPass import function did not work so I had to import using csv.

There is a major issue for which I have deducted 2 stars in that there must be a significant lag between edits and server updates (I don’t know if it’s local or in the cloud)…

Any edit wreaks havoc in 1Password and in the browser. It seems to create multiple entries (possibly temporarily). Password changes don’t always update and I cannot find password creation history promised (LastPass did this well). Deleted entries don’t show up in the Recently Deleted folder at all.

I’ve resorted to either copying the new password and pasting it to the notes of an entry or just creating a new temporary entry. This is a tedious workaround which doesn’t always work so I’ve had to reset multiple lost passwords.

Since it’s “free” with my eero subscription, I’ll try it for a while. If it doesn’t improve, I guess Keeper is up next.

A strange fall!!

I can't believe that a Application was destroyed like this with an update! I mean, the version of your notes in Password7 was backed up on your iCloud, but this is not the case in this new version! In the new version, if you do not buy a monthly subscription, your notes will be frozen and you will not be able to edit them! Can't even delete them!! Your notes will remain on the this app server until the day their servers become hack and your notes and passwords fall into the hands of hackers! This version of the program has completely insulted the user! unbelievable!! A strange fall!! Only because of the respect I have for Password7, I did not give one star and gave two stars!

2)
1Password store should remove 1Password from its store because this company is deceiving the user recently and when you have not received a monthly account, they will freeze your account and deny you the ability to delete your notes and hold you hostage until you do. Get a monthly subscription and you won't have mental security until you get a monthly subscription!!!

It’s great

From a password manager standpoint, this app delivers. Easy integration with iOS and Safari. Sometimes you’ll find apps and websites will make it difficult to seamlessly use this app, but in those instances you’ll just have to create a password first then copy and paste it. I was a version 7 user and in terms of usability, I never experienced any issues or flaws. Sure, 8 has some issues, but most have been worked out and the issues that do exist or so mundane that they don’t even bother me. They’ll get fixed with time. So, if you see the reviews and rating just know it’s actual users using 1Password , not leaving for a competitor app, but actual this app users who are salty version 8 isn’t as flawless as 7 was. It will get there eventually. The current rating does not justify how great 1Password really is. There’s a reason this app has always been and continues to be one of the most recommended password managers out there.

I keep trying 8, I keep returning to 7

The change logs on this app 8 are often extensive. They’re working to try to make it the best. Despite this, every time I decide to try to make 8 my default manager, I end up back on 7 later in the same day. The biggest hang-up for me right now is 7 shows a preview for what account will autofill in Safari allowing me to quickly pick the key or select the account. I use this all the time to skip the 1P interface all together for faster authentication, and I’m surprised the devs haven’t been missing this feature enough to implement it. I also find the Favorites and Categories tabs in 7 more useful for navigation than “Home” (with Favorites buried at the bottom) and “Items” with Vaults on the top and Categories below. Who navigates their password management by vault? It’s search or category, not vault. I’ll check on one state of 8 in a few more months and see how it’s progressing. I still love the core this app product and its architecture, but on iOS, I’d be happy to see updates for 7.

Private Vaultd

I chose this app several years ago because of stand-alone vaults. I have passwords that I never want available on the Internet. You’ve chosen to remove that feature even though you once advertised it as important. You have arrogantly decided that you are smarter than I am, that your security architecture protects my data on your servers and that’s all that matters. You have covered yourself. If my passwords get exposed, it’s my fault. The passwords in my private vault are on a computer inside a secure facility only accessible on a fire-walled network. The computer is off a great deal of the time. It’s not impossible to get them but nearly so. If I lose my phone, no problem. If I lose my phone with my important passwords stored on your computer they are not nearly as safe. Your seamless integration of private vaults with a vault on your server was an unbeatable combination. Less important passwords available everywhere, all of them available on my private network. Now I can’t think of any reason to continue to pay for your app.

So many in need of whaAmbulance

Not sure why so many whine about 1Password . Seems to be mostly people who don’t take the time to setup properly, neglect reaching out to what my experience has been the most responsive support team to ask questions, or simply complain about something that wasn’t offered to begin with.

Most issues I have encountered where resolved with a little effort put into settings tweaks, what I couldn’t find or figure out was resolved by reaching out to support.

Support has been amazing every step of the way, everyone with exception of the sneaky world domination focused Ai Bitbot…… yeah you! Have been amazing ( mentioning BitBot jokingly.)

They also take feedback seriously and look forward to future possibilities like integration of other apps like Eprivo, duplicate merging, and other ideas anyone comes up with. Seriously don’t be an angry (insert colorful adjective here) and you may be surprised how kind, playful, and responsive any developer may be when you try and communicate with them.

Thanks this app for all your hard work! Looking forward to who ever draws the short straw next 😉.

Until Next Time,
DeletediO

Still disappointing

The engineers who are working on 1Password are not communicating enough with those working on the macOS app. The apps used to be mostly in-sync with each other in how their UIs work.

This release of the iOS app is a wide departure from the previous UIs. Lots of things moved, changed, but I can see no reason for the changes. And I’ve read a fair amount of complaining about these changes. It looks to me like some engineer chose a certain toolbox for the management of the UI (or parts of it) and *forced* everything to fit within it, rather than consulting experienced HCI people to determine usage patterns and proper placement of UI items to facilitate those patterns. There is a lot of white space in the UI what wasn’t there before and it does nothing but make the UI look childish and waste users’ clicks and scrolls to find what they want—things that were easier and quicker to find in the previous UI.

I’m always in favor of improvements, and in general in the past, this app has added useful and helpful features. And there are indeed improvements in this release, just not the UI.

The macOS UI for version 8 is much better and more expected than this iOS version.

As I said, I’m disappointed here.

But probably the most important thing is that this new UI has effectively turned what was the top notch password manager into (apparently) one of the worst with its 3.4 rating. It’s hard to get a high rating. But it’s easy to lose it. And even harder to get it back.

For a paid service, I expected basic functionality

Im not one to leave reviews but I just switched from Lastpass to this app and am wondering why I decided to start paying money for this. I wanted to have access to my passwords on my phone, but 1Password is really glitchy with other apps when prompted for a password. The whole reason I got a password app is so that they would autofill, but now I am prompted to type in my complicated 1PW master password every time I log in. This is extra annoying because the interface is buggy and you cant actually see the field you are typing in because the keyboard is in the way. On top of that, if I change a website password this app doesn't ask to update it in my vault so I have to do it manually.

All of this is just as annoying as not having password management on my phone and keeping the free Lastpass service.

If it doesnt get better in three months Im out.

Does Not Work on iOS17

If you want to repeatedly have to delete 1Password , because you are prompted to input your this app credentials, which aren’t accepted, and give you an infinite loop of password requests, then you’re in luck. Either skip this app, or skip iOS17. I’m sure it will be fixed, but I’ve already updated this app at least once if not twice since the iOS17 update. For something that is critical to your daily use of your mobile device/life, this is not an acceptable situation. They should have had this resolved long before iOS17 was released.

EDIT: Still an issue. Although the issue stopped occurring on a daily basis, it is still happening. This time it seems likely a bug that occurred when I was prompted to fill credentials in Safari but this app required the password (which I have set for every 2 weeks). Infinite loop. Force delete and reinstall is the only solution. Horrible bug. Recommend using iOS17 built in password management if you are fully Apple ecosystem.

Getting buggier and buggier

I was so willing to let this app prove me wrong with version 8. I see the potential benefits from a shared core, and there have been many new features added, like passkeys and ssh keys. However, it just keeps getting buggier and buggier. Sometimes autofill doesn’t work on sites where I use it regularly. The passkey feature gets confused and often won’t offer a passkey if this app was locked when I first loaded the webpage. Items don’t sync well, and every time I open 1Password , my screen is covered with duplicate messages about the same item failing to sync. Sometimes the this app drop down shows up, but a lot of the time it doesn’t. Or it says “no saved passwords” for sites where I’ve filled passwords 1000s of times. The changes between 7 and 8 could have made this app more reliable, but it’s been months and it just gets worse and worse. I haven’t overcome the inertia to move to a different password manager yet, but I’m so disappointed that this app is pushing me that way. Don’t add new features if you can’t solve 6 month old bugs. Do better.

Great App, Confused on Poor Reviews

I’ve used 1Password for over 5 years now. The synchronization and UI of 1Password are great, even through changes over the years. Its integration into iOS to replace Keychain has been wonderful since iOS 16 (I think). The MacOS and extensions on browsers such as Chrome and Firefox work like a charm as well. Other little features I’ve enjoyed are sharing passwords temporarily, Watchtower, and customizable Home Screen. I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews for 1Password which I think were quite frankly baseless. 1Password works great between all platforms, I have never thought about “why isn’t this working”, and most importantly I have never been concerned with security because of the constant updating and improvements to 1Password . There a lot of features I don’t use on 1Password so maybe that’s where some of the complaints stem from, but as a password keeper, it has done its job and more.

Stop trying to get me to share my info with you, 1Password!

Generally, I’ve been happy with this app. However, recently, it seems every time I log into it, it tries to get me to share my information with it about my family account “for product improvement reasons.” In the dialog box, the option is to accept the sharing is on by default. But when I deselect it and dismiss the dialog box by selecting “Confirm
Choices,” 1Password just asks me again the next time I log in. I DON’T WANT TO SHARE. Let it go, this app. It’s creepy. While you promise not to look at the passwords, the implication is that you can see the sites we use and the name of our items. No thanks.

Additionally, the desktop app also wants to have full accessibility access on the Mac. This is a bit disconcerting and confusing when the browser plugin does just fine without it). Since I don’t want or need this app to fill passwords outside the browser, it’s annoying. Also, this app 8 is only available for direct download on the Mac, and I don’t want that—for security reasons I prefer to download (and update) via 1Password Store.

Best Password management tool in the market

I have used two other before using this app. Our family uses this service. In addition to this, my husband uses another service for his business. So I can compare this to three other services and this app is by far the best. They are always on the forefront of the new security trends. 1Password has also been improved by leaps and bounds and has been kept up with new features. It has some issues, but thankfully not too big. I really appreciate the support team publishing the list of all updates on the AppStore, unlike most other apps with a generic and useless update notes like “made improvements” - I mean, why even bother? 1Password has become one of my most used apps and without good app team, 1Password would have never scaled up to that usage. Glad I found this service.

"1Password is a lifesaver!

"this app is a lifesaver! As someone who juggles numerous accounts across various platforms, 1Password has truly streamlined my digital life. Its sleek interface and robust security features provide peace of mind, knowing that my sensitive information is safely stored and easily accessible when needed. From generating strong, unique passwords to securely storing credit card information and sensitive documents, this app excels in keeping my digital identity secure. The seamless integration across devices ensures I have access to my data wherever I go. Plus, the added bonus of the Watchtower feature constantly monitoring for potential security breaches is invaluable. Overall, this app sets the gold standard for password managers, and I can't recommend it highly enough!"

Hesitant

I hate doing reviews and it may be I would hate any and all password managers but I feel I should say, I hate 1Password and it feels like my worst digital mistake ever. They own me now. It works badly on the laptop and worse on iOS. It rarely works with apps and websites, of course fights with all other password saving functions, but I can never drop them. THAT’s the worst part, I believe that with all the whack mega passwords it’s generated I can never keep track of them WITHOUT this app or some other paid manager. I should have known when, not long after I started, I reached a help desk person and asked how I was supposed to convert to full usage of 1Password and he said “well, eventually…” Surprise, that word never came up when they were selling me. Eventually btw is of course never. Other thing is… I was convinced by a gang of colleagues at work to try this app, struggled with it for months… finally remembered to mention it and they ALL said “oh heck, that thing is trash, we all dropped it.” So… three years plus now and … my initial “worst mistake ever” assessment has… not changed. Sigh…

Expecting it all, but getting barely enough

I consider myself pretty tech savvy. Build websites, navigate to remote machines via ssh, but I feel like Apple keychain was easier to use and a lot more efficient. I use 1Password for mobile and desktop. I have the browser extensions and can’t for the life of me figure out simple things like going to a website and getting 1PW to populate the uname and pw. I have to manually go to 1Password and search for the credentials and put them in by copy/paste. If this is meant to be efficient it’s another head ache. Half the time it doesn’t even show what I’m searching for and I have to search all. This can’t be how it was intended to work.
I do love that all of my pw , passkeys, and more are in a central location, but this should be a lot easier for the average user.

Dangerous App UI

UPDATE: They said they’re aware of the issue… and several weeks later released an update that does nothing to fix it. Apologize and deflect as the quality declines.

Poor QA makes editing items dangerous. Add a or modify a set of login credentials. Tap the entry you just added or edited again because you want to modify it. BOOM this app OPENS A DIFFERENT ITEM. Heaven help if you don’t look to closely or have multiple accounts with the same service. I wanted to move off Authy. I had to add a 2FA entry to this app for multiple login items. Repeatedly, I would edit item A, save, tap item B, and this app would open a different item.— sometimes item A, sometimes something else, but NEVER item B on the first attempt. This is incredibly dangerous when changing 2FA codes or storing recovery codes. You can easily delete things and get locked out. If this app is this sloppy with UI and QA, would you trust your Enterprise secrets and personal security with them. Time to migrate. The last 2 years have seen so much deterioration in app quality and usability. At this point, it seems inevitable that a breech will happen or coding errors will open it up for their encryption & security to be bypassed.

Buggy

Will there ever come a day when this app 8 is as good as this app 7 was? It’s been a year and a half, and this app 8 is still as buggy as ever. For a while now, every time I open this app, it automatically opens—in edit mode—an item I created a few weeks ago. Every time! This is a bug that this app has known about for at least several weeks, and they’ve even claimed to have fixed it already. When is enough enough? I’ve been using this app for over a decade now, and I even got my workplace to switch to the business version. But it seems obvious that this app just doesn’t have the commitment to software quality that they used to have. I’m not jumping ship yet, but I hope someone at this app sees that the reviews for their product have been getting more negative for a long time now, so they can right the ship before it’s too late.

To the this app employee who responded to my review today (March 28, 2024) claiming that the bug I’m experiencing has already been fixed: you’re wrong. I have the most recent version of this app, and the bug is still happening.

It’s horrible. Don’t even try to use it!
