Private Vaultd

2023-10-03

by Wposwego

I chose 1Password several years ago because of stand-alone vaults. I have passwords that I never want available on the Internet. You’ve chosen to remove that feature even though you once advertised it as important. You have arrogantly decided that you are smarter than I am, that your security architecture protects my data on your servers and that’s all that matters. You have covered yourself. If my passwords get exposed, it’s my fault. The passwords in my private vault are on a computer inside a secure facility only accessible on a fire-walled network. The computer is off a great deal of the time. It’s not impossible to get them but nearly so. If I lose my phone, no problem. If I lose my phone with my important passwords stored on your computer they are not nearly as safe. Your seamless integration of private vaults with a vault on your server was an unbeatable combination. Less important passwords available everywhere, all of them available on my private network. Now I can’t think of any reason to continue to pay for your app.

Hesitant

I hate doing reviews and it may be I would hate any and all password managers but I feel I should say, I hate this App and it feels like my worst digital mistake ever. They own me now. It works badly on the laptop and worse on iOS. It rarely works with apps and websites, of course fights with all other password saving functions, but I can never drop them. THAT’s the worst part, I believe that with all the whack mega passwords it’s generated I can never keep track of them WITHOUT 1Password or some other paid manager. I should have known when, not long after I started, I reached a help desk person and asked how I was supposed to convert to full usage of the App and he said “well, eventually…” Surprise, that word never came up when they were selling me. Eventually btw is of course never. Other thing is… I was convinced by a gang of colleagues at work to try 1Password, struggled with it for months… finally remembered to mention it and they ALL said “oh heck, that thing is trash, we all dropped it.” So… three years plus now and … my initial “worst mistake ever” assessment has… not changed. Sigh…

Buggy

2024-04-02

by Muéro

Will there ever come a day when 1Password 8 is as good as 1Password 7 was? It’s been a year and a half, and 1Password 8 is still as buggy as ever. For a while now, every time I open 1Password, it automatically opens—in edit mode—an item I created a few weeks ago. Every time! This is a bug that 1Password has known about for at least several weeks, and they’ve even claimed to have fixed it already. When is enough enough? I’ve been using 1Password for over a decade now, and I even got my workplace to switch to the business version. But it seems obvious that 1Password just doesn’t have the commitment to software quality that they used to have. I’m not jumping ship yet, but I hope someone at 1Password sees that the reviews for their product have been getting more negative for a long time now, so they can right the ship before it’s too late.

To the 1Password employee who responded to my review today (March 28, 2024) claiming that the bug I’m experiencing has already been fixed: you’re wrong. I have the most recent version of 1Password, and the bug is still happening.
