Terrible Experience with this App (though hopeful for it's future)

by Sambovermont
THE GOOD : The potential and current interface is great....I was hoping for a one stop landing pad to monitor bank accounts and multiple credit cards; a better designed and ad-free version of Mint
THE BAD : immediately the iOS apps were out of sync with the MacOS app. And then 3 days later, the MacOS app is not synced with my bank after app quits/restart. I did receive prompt email tech support, but the process to 'reset' the MoneyWiz cloud between devices is clunky, and truthfully, is completely overly complex and challenging to the average user. It's 2021....users expect consistent and fool proof cloud sync between Mac OS ans iOS platforms, and many many app systems continue to offer this. So frustrating.
So, I'm going to cancel my subscription and consider the wasted $4.99 as a downpayment for improvements in the near future.
Horrible Syncing feature.

As the tittle says. I would not waste your money like I did on the premium version of MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance for the Bank/Financial institution syncing feature. As many other reviews have stated this feature is inconsistent and unreliable. Way more often than not, when you sit down with MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance to go over your finances you will find that your transactions of your accounts are not up to date. You will find that your accounts have not been updated by many hours to a day or so. This makes it impossible to get an accurate account of where your at financially at any given time using MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance. You can update your transactions manually, but that negates the reason for subscribing to the premium version of MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance. MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance has several choices for which third party vendor you want to use for syncing to your accounts. For the USA/Canada the vendor choice is “PLAID”. This is the one I use. I have seen in other reviews that the developer says they have no control over the way the the third party company handles the syncing and that all they do is incorporate this feature into their App. Well, the problem is that I paid my subscription to MoneyWiz not PLAID. So please don’t advertise and charge a premium for a feature in your App that doesn’t work properly. Other than that its a decent App. Thank you.
Update: That’s fine. But please disclose/advertise this deficiency in your promo/app description so consumers can make an informed purchasing decision. 🤷♀️
wow... Severly disappointed

Opened the program, excited to add another new credit card account with chase to my chart of accounts, went ahead and added it to my accounts by linking through chase bank & plaid, only to find out that all of my existing bank accounts with chase have now been duplicated. Tried to delete the duplicates, it has now screwed up all of the balances on accounts that are completely unrelated... are you serious? Great app, great concept, horrible support/nonexistent from their website. MAJOR FLAWS. One mistake like this could cost you an entire weekend to fix the damage it did. Absolutely horrible experience. I've honestly never felt more annoyed with an app in my life. One small mistake and everything is completly ruined, all that work renered completely useless. IF you heed my caution, unless they fix stuff like this, you should stay away. It has a great appeal to someone who is business minded or trying to stay on top of their complicated finnances HOWEVER this is a landmine of an app, step on the wrong bug, and youre entire financial well being might as well get blown to pieces,(fragmented, worse off and more complicated than how you started). If you ignore this warning then to you I say, Goodluck!
DELETED EVERYTHING

I had a money tracker app that I paid for that was no longer supported by the latest apple updates, so I tried several apps looking for a replacement. I chose MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance as I only wanted to track accounts offline and I really liked the layout. I loved using MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance until today when I opened it and found that all of my accounts, transactions and information had been deleted! Now I’m back to square one and have to decide if I want to add everything back into MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance and risk having it happen again, or look for another app, very frustrating!
I didn’t log out because I never logged in, I was using it in Demo mode as I was only interested in offline tracking. The description clearly states “We do not impose a limit on the number of accounts, budgets, regular or scheduled transactions you can create in MoneyWiz for free. However, you will need a subscription to enable certain features: Premium Subscription enables bank sync and multi-device sync. Standard subscription enables multi-device sync.” I am not interested in the subscription features.
I have been using Moneywiz3 for the past year and decided to support the company by paying for an upgrade. I couldn't even set up an account. It took me a day with tech support - they kept showing me the wrong screens that were not showing my on my mac. Finally they gave me a link to sign up. Why should this be so difficult? I even tried "activate license". Now I am trying to transfer over my old data. The help section is horrible- I never had a sync bits account with the old moneywiz, which apparently you are supposed to use in order to transfer to the new system. So when I tried to sync it, it all went away. I thought I had exported all of my work, but then found out it was only 3 months! I had tried to import, and looked everywhere how to do it. It wasn't obvious. Then it wouldn't import a CSV file tha Moneywiz3 exported! I have been using personal finance programs for a long time, so I'm accoutning program savvy. When I expressed my last difficulty, there was no response. I have asked for a refund, but have not heard back.

I have been looking for a personal finance application and thought I had found it with MoneyWiz. Once I subscribed to their “premium” features it was simple enough to link all of my financial accounts in one place. I began to notice Money Wiz did not match my actual account balances for my individual accounts thus giving me wrong balances. I had to go in and change individual charges for most if not all my accounts to correct type of transactions. Since I have a multitude of accounts this was taxing and unwarranted for the price you pay. Furthermore, their budget/expense setup was too complicated for me. After a week of attempting to actually not only wanting the application but trying to make it work for me, I decided MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance isn’t for me. It has great features and if it wasn’t for their few kwirks I would have kept it. 2 star rating because I actually liked MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance .
Good attempt, but not quite there yet

I want to love MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance - the dev is clearly doing his best, and it's still better than any other apps I've found in my search for a modern, "macos-like" personal finance app with bank integrations etc etc, but there's a bumch of issues that I really think should be addressed for MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance to deserve the praise it's been getting. Firstly, despite being sold as a mac app, only minimal effort has been made to actually design a desktop UI. The developer is clearly most comfortable building for mobile; most interfaces are clearly mobile templates in xcode being misused. Secondly, there are a ton of minor bugs – nothing severe enough to render MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance unusuable, but the issue is that the developer does not offer any kind of support, or even a contact form. The "support" link on the website links to a page with a ton of content that reads like a forum with only one person posting. To the dev, keep up the good work – I would gladly pay more if it enabled you to bring on a team and give MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance the attention it deserves
Intuitive ideas, but needs much improvement
2023-06-06
by Dzsidzsi
Love the idea and functionality of MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance ,, but needs much work. 1. Constantly downloads duplicates from online bank. One account from my online bank always has the wrong balance downloaded while another account from the same bank is correct. Had to delete 3 times that account and re-establish and it never gets it right. Syncing between devices are slow as well. 2. Also, could not import from quicken although I followed the instructions given to me from tech help. MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance didn't do anything when tried to import. 3. Also, it would be good to have a complete mortgage account functionality - something like quicken has. 4. Also, you need to "cheat" if you want to add your properties as part of your assets - b/c you can't just add an asset that is not cash.
Credit Cards report NON EXIST. Errors REPORT and GOALS!
2023-07-08
by DominicanFinance
I am an accountant and MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance , to be the best, needs improvements and functions. 1. A pillar in personal finance is the proper use of credit cards, this application does not have any report related to credit, to court, to payment to court. 2. In the reports, where the subcategories are detailed, everything appears! both category and subcategory in the same line and that makes the report look not so professional and sometimes you don't even know which subcategory it is. 3. When pdf reports are generated, the amount does not appear. 4. Goals and objectives must be included, it is not feasible in budgets since not all income goes to an objective or goal, and it does not allow transfers to be part of the goals, that is, if you transfer from cash to a savings account it is impossible to take that counts as saving for a goal.
PROS: - Automatic bank feeds powered by Plaid supports most financial institutions. - Table view of transactions for bulk editing. - Works on multiple devices and settings are synced. - Support for investments.
CONS: - Unpolished interface. It is clunky and in your face with big, colorful icons. It definitely does not adhere to modern design trends. It waste so much space. - Cash forecast calendar is not useful. It is just a tiny sidebar under the schedule page. To see the forecast amount for the day, click it and a tiny pop-up shows you the balance for every account but requires you to scroll. I have used MoneyWiz in the past and seem to recall they once had a full calendar, not a sidebar. - Useless cash forecasting report. If you choose by day, it tries to squeeze 30 days into a horizontal bar graph. Bar graph is the only option. It would be more useful if you could then choose a weekly time frame, but month is the minimum you can choose. - Slow syncing - No renaming and categorization rules to automatically rename new transactions
Switching from Buxfer
2023-09-09
by Steve In Tuscaloosa
In many ways, Buxfer is more elegant and easier to use, but after 6 years, Buxfer is basically the same. They still don't have a paycheck entry and no way to mix and match income categories with expense categories. Well, MoneyWiz doesn't have these either, but they are promising to add them within the next couple of months. We shall see. I don't like the way they do splits in MoneyWiz. You have to go and click on the categories you want, and then add the amounts and click lock and unlock as you go down the list. Seems clunky compared to Quicken, which is more intuitive. I admit that MoneyWiz is nice to look at. I like the way they let you group accounts anyway you want. Might be nice to have subgroups. Advanced reconciliation is nice but not as nice as Quicken. I am going to sign up for a month or two to see if MoneyWiz delivers on their promises. It can be #1, but Quicken still rules the roost. Oh, I almost forgot. Their support is great and they actually respond, which is way more than can be said for Buxfer and Quicken! It's why I am giving them a chance.
Great, BUT

by BadBobB
Been using MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance for about a year. Many great and frequent updates. Support has been great. Now for the BUT. I use Plaid at $50 per yr and it has been driving me crazy. Plaid decides when and if it will access your account for an update. Many times I have to wait two days to get an update to my account while the actual bank for credit card account has been updated 1-2 days. Sorry, MZ, love your app and would like to stick with you, but Plaid is not worth the $50 a year. 5 Stars for MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance , minus 1 for Plaid. Update: Tried Yodlee for bank connection and it only allows so many connections per day, approximatley 1 per 8 hrs as far as I can tell. Just an FYI.
So far, so good

by Shapimp
I really liked PocketMoney 2, but it was “bricked” during an OS Update, so I had to switch to another. I tried Money Monitor, which stunk, but I had to use something in a pinch. I like MoneyWiz, because it has more customizations and looks better. I just want 2 things. I want more font sizes that are larger than the 3 that are offered, and I want a column for Total Values next to every recorded transaction in the summary view, just like in the spreadsheet view. Also, I want to be able to display Available Balance in the Credit Card Accounts. Do that, and I will give 5 stars.
Finally a strong App that works
2023-12-13
by K-dani
I love moneywiz 2020. My priorty was to use an app that downloads all my financial accounts and gives me a full picture of what i have and what is happening. There are a lot of services like this but none that function flawlessly. Quicken is slow and doesn't support all my bank accounts. Banktivity, personal capital, or Calrity Money also don't allow you to connec to all the banking and investment institutions--totally pointless for a financial app. Moneywiz offers three data aggregators, if one doesn't work for you, try the other. Finally, they have superb cutomer service. The response time to my emails and queries is so less than a few hours. sometimes within a few minutes. They care about the customer relationship. Be aware that there is no perfect financial app, because they all rely on another service to aggregate data from banking institutions. so their at the mercy of another provider, but they address any bugs or issues in connectivity immediately. i was able to get into al of my accounts (15 in cluding robinhood and webull) in a day or two. I tried all available apps and services, and this is the best hands down.
I’ve been using MoneyWiz for years. I recently upgraded to MoneyWiz 3 so I could use it on my new PC, but was upset that the newer version separated my pending and cleared transactions. I found that to be confusing and emailed them to see if there was any way to integrate the two. They responded almost immediately that I could not do so in that version. They suggested that I get MoneyWiz 21, which is an annual subscription, but would allow me to integrate the two categories. Unfortunately, MoneyWiz 21 is only available in IOS, but I can use it on my phone and tablet, just not on my PC, and for me, that was the best choice. When I let them know that I wanted to switch, they immediately refunded my money and I went ahead and got MoneyWiz 21.
So, their customer service is outstanding. I have never been able to keep track of my funds using a check register and I have found MoneyWiz to be totally reliable and I depend on it. I don’t use any of the fancier features like syncing with my bank. I don’t want to know what my bank thinks I have; I need to work off of what I will have when all my bills and pending transactions are paid! But if you are financially savvy (I’m not) there are tons of features that can help you track investments etc.
best app for forecasting cashflow and future balances
2024-02-14
by MNY2
This is by far the best app for forecasting cashflow and future balances, considering both recurring deposits like pay checks and regular bills, one-time scheduled transactions user can add for anticipated major expenses. That is a vital part of sound financial planning. Other apps show budgets and historical data, or average future balances, but not day-by-day all the way out for a year which is essential to ensure balances are kept positive and lets user decide how much can be put into savings/retirement accounts or when a shortfall might occur needing a reverse transfer or delaying a big purchase.
Gotta LOVE Moneywiz!!

I’ve been using the premium version for several years now. Well worth the price. MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance keeps getting better and better. And product support is exceptional and fast. Features like online account sync, loan tracking, categorization automatically “learned” by MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance , flexible tags that track transactions however you want (especially helpful for aggregating tax line items), year-by-year and multi-year reports, easy reconciliation, accounts organized by month or by statement date, customized budgeting, and screen views optimized for iPhone and iPad make Moneywiz a must-have financial tool. The more you use it, the more you appreciate how to take full advantage of its capabilities. And what a pleasure to have it all iOS-accessible via phone or tablet. So handy, so powerful, so handsomely presented. Simply the best app of its kind.
Great app/superior support

by Daschles
I came over after using a competitor for many years. I found the switching process smooth and customer service is extraordinarily responsive and cleared up all the questions I had. My chief love is it is completely the same experience acrosss mac and ios - it now makes no difference to me at all whether I'm working on phone or desktop or ipad. That is simply huge and something the competitor just couldn't do. The four aggregators mean that accounts the competitor couldn't automate now automate smoothly. The interface is good looking and easy to use. I personally find the reports the weakest link in the chain, but they are good enough, and I can find ways of doing everything I want, even though not always as smoothly as I could before. All in all, a very good experience and definitely highly recommendable.
Reliable Finance App
2024-05-18
by Tycoljr
I've been using MoneyWiz for years with no major issues at all. I use it on multiple devices, multiple times a day and it all syncs. Recently when I was up for my yearly billing, I noticed that I was charged more than what MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance costs. Aparantly they lowered their prices at some point and I was still stuck on the old billing cycle. I emailed them about this and they instantly resolved my issue and were happy to do it. I'm super impressed by their customer service. I mean, what developer actually lowers their prices? They also are constantly updating MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance to make it better. The only gripe I have is that I wish I could use more keyboard shortcuts, like "command-N" to start a new transaction, rather than moving the cursor to the plus button, but thats not a big deal. I hope they continue to make this great app in years to come.
I had high hopes for Moneywiz but i spent several hours twice importing my data on my mac. Part way through each time it stopped syncing from the mac so while it looked good on the mac it was way out of date on my ipad. I tried following the instructions but nothing seemed to help and i ended up both times losing everything on the mac. I found a file that looked like it might contain all the unsynced changes but i had no way of applying it. I dont have the time or patience to try a third time. My situation is slightly complex in that i have bank accounts in 3 countries and it took a while to correct all the currency transfers from the import. This is where most of the time went and removing duplicates caused by having to import the accounts one at a time in the correct currency. Hopefully if your situation is simpler this will be fine for you. I was on the 7 day trial and got no response to my emails to support.
No advanced split transactions
2024-12-18
by Steve1601
For years Moneywiz has said that they will implement advanced split transactions (debits and credits in one transactions) and so many new version have been released and that feature is still not available. Tired of waiting. Moving on to another app.
Splits

need to be able to split a transaction bewtween an account and a category. Like a Loan Payment. Split the Priciple to come off the Loan Aaccount and keep track of the Interest you paid by putting it in a category for later reference.
New Version Brings Issues
2024-12-18
by LivingtheLiminal
I've been using MoneyWiz for years now and have generally been very happy with it. However, with this new MoneyWiz 2020 update I'm...not. The text in the register is tiny and makes it hard to see transaction details at a glance and over 3/4 of my icons for various categories (even the built in ones) are missing and I'm having to go in and reassign them category by category.
A rocky start to a new version.
Mac version is an unpolished mess. Looks great on iOS

$50/year is a lot of money to pay for a second-class Mac app
I wish you could have total expense for the month/day/week shown on the main page other than that its been a very good app!

The only complant I have is the fonts are so small it is hard for me to read what I have typed in. It sure would be nice if we could select the size of the fonts we need in order to read what has been entered .

The way they fixed the fonts makes this a 6 star app. Thank you so much!
Pros: lot of functions. Easy interface Cons: interface after redesign on desktop looks usly. Summary: using MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance for a lot of years, no alternative for now.
A good successor to MoneyWiz3
2024-12-18
by MrTechTurtle
MoneyWiz2020 is a great upgrade from MoneyWiz3. I feel like MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance is more fluid and has a few new features there were missed in 3. While I know that this version of MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance is new, I do have some suggestions after switching from MW3 and trying to balance all of my accounts using it.
First, the color choices for the account groups is nearly blinding, it would be great if we could choose the saturation we want versus having account groups that look like a bag of Skittles. I keep all of mine set to white as that’s the only color that doesn’t irritate my eyes. Second, MW3 had a Statistics tab on the account overview screen that gave some quick stats on your overall spending. I miss that and didn’t realize how much I used it until it was missing in the 2020 version.
I also noticed that the Pending, Cleared and Forecast buttons are not hidden under a filter button on each account. While I love the additional filters there are now present, such as time period and type of transaction, I’ve found myself struggling to balance properly because I end up leaving it on only Cleared and am not seeing the pending transactions. In MW3 I could just look up and have those filters right underneath the running balance. Now I have to hit that filter button and turn pending on and off for each account I want to balance to ensure I match to the penny. I tend to this several times for each account, especially when I’m out some money and can’t find it among the pending transactions. This has added a little frustration when it comes to balancing and is something I greatly miss from MW3. Having an option to show those filter buttons beneath the running total (versus under the filter button) would be amazing.
The only other suggestion I can really make (and this doesn’t appear to exist in MW3 either) would be to have a feature for splitting a transaction across X number of months. Currently when I want to do this, I have to do the math and then duplicate the transaction I made X number of times until I get what I want. This is probably an odd use case, but thought I would mention it.
I am strictly an offline user (I have no desire to sync anything) and I appreciate that MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance doesn’t badger me to make any accounts or set up sync. That being said, I can’t give any insights or comments about this new version’s sync ability.
Overall this is stellar upgrade from MoneyWiz3 and I’m looking forward to how it gets refined and polished going forward.
Easiest app for synching financial information across devices.
2024-12-18
by RealDAN_VAN
This is the easiest app for synching financial data across multiple devices. Hopefully with this version they will soon bring back the grid for the desktop version. The colors garish but there are some subdued colors which may be selected.
Fantastic Budgeting App
2024-12-18
by _c_g
MW 2020 is a fantastic budgeting app, offering customized budgets, categories, and reports. I’ve used it for years, and now have a wonderful historical record of previous purchased and income. If you care deeply about tracking your finances, and don’t want to subscribe to a particular approach (think YNAB or “envelopes”), I’d give MW a try. (Also: They now offer a “lite” subscription that eschews online transaction capture for manual entry. Awesome if you don’t need the online functionality but do want syncing.)
Excellent Support

by A Must Have App
I have used Quicken for almost 20 years. But wanted a simpler application that I could use on my iPad. I have low vision so I don’t always read things correctly. I had a difficult time setting up MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance . Customer service was extremely patient with me responding rapidly and with knowledgeable information to help me get set up. I’ve only had MoneyWiz2024PersonalFinance for three days but I’m looking forward to learning more about it and helping keep my finances straight. It’s a very economical app with good information. I would highly recommend it for anyone.
MoneyWize 2020 is a very nice upgrade and I really like it.But I would like to introduce a standard licensing option like MoneyWize 3, buyout. the online banking offered by MoneyWize 2020 doesn't work in my country, I only use my iPhone for accounting on one device and don't need any other device, so I would like to introduce a single-device No AD and Sync licensing option like MoneyWize 3 standard licensing for $!9.9.
