Gorillas: Grocery Delivery Reviews

We were excited to try this app. But our first order arrived missing the vast majority of why we had ordered and paid for. Zero quality control! And when we texted (in app) and emailed this app, we have not yet received any response at all. So, now we have to spend the time and effort to do a formal credit card dispute. And we also had a this app discount coupon, but they did not honor the discount! A horribly bad first impression by this app! ***UPDATE*** — After about 12 hours, a this app supervisor finally fixed all of the above issues, sincerely apologized, and also gave us a courtesy credit too, all of which was very thoughtful and much appreciated. And our next two this app orders were handled and delivered perfectly. Accordingly, I have upgraded this review from one to three stars. And if things keep going well with this app, I then will bump this review to four stars. ***PRO TIP*** — Always ask this app to call you when they arrive, so that you have the cell number of their delivery guy/gal, just in case you need to get help. Because this app does not have any phone help/support at all, like all other companies do. Which is why I never will give them five stars. Phone support is critical and a must-have for any company.

First time using Gorillas . I put in an order, and was reservedly excited about quick grocery delivery from a smaller company that seems to pay attention to a lot of the little details (local sourcing, good app design, etc).

My order arrived quickly, but there was a surprise substitution that I wouldn’t have said yes to (it wasn’t a big deal, but not ideal - you hope people will check with you. They gave me a note, which was nice I guess, but it took the choice out of my hands).

Then I realized they hadn’t delivered the two bottles of wine I ordered. Drag. So I hopped on to chat with customer service, told them what the problem was, and mentioned that I didn’t really want the substitution that had been included, either.

The guy I chatted with, Paul, was nice about it - he said he’d send someone with the substitution and also offered to credit me for the substitution. I’m glad I clarified that I wanted a refund instead, because I have now spent a full hour managing this grocery delivery (they recently delivered one of the two missing bottles of wine). I could have just gone shopping myself at this point, and there has been no attempt by this app to make all the extra time and involvement and mess-ups worth my while. The guy on chat actually said “the least I can do is get you all the wine you paid for”. …that’s true.

TL;DR I was excited to try this app but it turns out they’re an app that does the least they can do, or sometimes less. Two stars.

As a workaholic Expat that just moved to Amsterdam, the thing I first noticed is that grocery stores close earlier than what I’m used to. This means that I have to eat out all of the time. this app has allowed me to make sure that I not only just have food to eat, but a fridge stocked with the goodies I need in order to make sure I’m healthy, hydrated, and ready to carpe this mf’n diem.

The way it works? They essentially have distributed supermarket spaces with order pickers loading up backpacks for couriers to rapidly dispatch within a fixed radius. This ensures rapid delivery. Sometimes I’ve received €50 worth of groceries in five minutes or less.

It feels a little bit like the future… Almost like I’m downloading nutrients and substances directly into my home…

But instead of a spinning wheel on a loading screen… it’s the spinning wheel of a bicycle that’s enroute to bring my 5 liters of Almond Milk and toothepaste directly to my front door.

Props to the couriers, too. It’s difficult to find good service in Amsterdam. The delivery guys from this app have always been super cheerful, helpful, and seem to take pride in what they do. That’s refreshing.

I loved this service and ordered every 3-4 days. But then, there was an issue i contacted them about, they said they’d get back to me, and they never did. And, when i contacted them about it, there was no record of the issue. I was experiencing an interruption of my internet service and expressed the need for an alternate method of communication other than chat since it was using up data. I was a given a phone number. The person who answered was rude and told me that he was busy with other things. Then, he had audacity to blame everything on me, and told me that this app is “a delivery app not internet service” as if I clearly don’t already know this. I have no desire to be a customer of any company that insults my intelligence and is so blatantly unwilling to accept the fact that they made the mistake by falsely telling me they would get back to me then twisting the situation into something that is somehow my fault even though it was never my fault. Gross.

this app is a disruptive tech…there have been ways to order groceries online for a while now, but not like this. Actual situations I have had: “I’m want to toast my cinnamon raisin sourdough for breakfast, but I don’t have cream cheese.” 7 minutes later, cream cheese. “Baby, this recipe calls for 3 tomatoes but we only have one!” 6 minutes later, cooking back on track. “Hey everyone, another round of mojitos?” 9 minutes later, enough limes for 2 more rounds. It’s great when not needing last minute items, but that’s where it really shines. I also really appreciate their partnering with local vendors. this app is the closest we’ve come to the food replicators from Star Trek TNG!

I always feel bad using delivery apps knowing they often exploit their workers. so when I found this app and saw their company policies I knew I had to give it a try! not only do they have a great selection, but they're fast and easy. using this app saves me so much time and energy as someone with a chronic illness. grocery shopping can be a huge burden, but now it's a breeze! and I feel even better knowing my delivery people are being paid well and taken care of (but I'll still tip hard until the day I die!!) thank you this app!

My order was shown as on the way very quickly but even though my address was correct my courier went to the wrong address and proceeded to keep me on the phone while he tried to find the correct building. My address was fully correct in Gorillas and so were my delivery instructions but he still somehow went to the wrong place and had me repeatedly tell him my address and what the building looked like even though he kept saying he was outside?? I have used the other nyc grocery delivery apps frequently and never had this sort of issue with delivery. Being held on the phone and having this confusion definitely made the process awkward and frustrating. I would be hesitant to order from Gorillas again

Recently I ordered groceries for the weekend, while the company advertises delivery with quick response. They took over 1 hour with my order, besides that, one item was missing and was substituted by a letter “apologizing” and saying I will be refunded. Surprisingly the item missing was the main course of the meal. Why is the item listed on their app if they do not have any stock?!? Clearly need some upgrades in their managing. Another item I ordered in this same order was bread, and to my surprise they decided to place the bread at the bottom of the bag, so when I received my groceries it was all mashed up. Big thumbs up for having a 1 star service. I would highly recommend using another app instead of this app. Lack of reliability, and very bad managing.

Therefore, I grant them 1 star.

I never leave reviews but I can’t say enough how much I love this app! Grocery shopping in the city is a once a week thing for me and there’s nothing worse than realizing you’re missing one or two items throughout the week and having to brave a 20 minute line in Whole Foods just for a few things. this app have mostly the basics but their prices are great! My favorite part is how they send an extra treat with almost every delivery 🥺 extra avocados, deserts from local shops or chocolate samples. Delivery guys are always so sweet too. 10/10!

Gorillas runs smoothly and it’s user friendly. The service provided is something straight out of the future. I think up groceries (they have a good selection too), press a button and boom! Literally in just 6 minutes it arrives at my doorstep, I don’t know how they do it, I’m convinced they learned how to bend time. Whatever the case, I get a thrill watching the clock but it never fails, they arrive in just 6 minutes. Just mind blown! Excellent app, superb service, hope they can keep the low service fee as they grow.

I had every reason to doubt this and although I didn’t receive a delivery confirmation, the order arrived very fast. I was wondering if it was gonna make it because it said the ETA was 10:12 and it was already after that and the order still wasn’t confirmed BUT THEN GOT DELIVERED A FEW MINUTES AFTER. Like so quick. My phone rang and I felt like I was in the movie The Ring because I thought it was black magic. They also wrote me a postcard saying thank you with a fine and raw chocolate bar. Good stuff!!

I placed and order at night and the deliver was estimated to be around 80 minutes. I immediately contacted the in-app support who told me someone will be with me shortly, which turns out to be never. 2 hours later the my order didn’t show up and the shop was closed. I figured the order will be delivered in the morning. Turns out I was wrong. Gorillas says they open at 7.30 and I waited till 9.00 and contacted the support again, no answer. So I emailed them. A few minutes later I was told the order has been canceled, no apologies. And my money can only be refunded in 7days. I was supposed no one attempted to deliver my order or ask me if I wanted to cancel my order. Hence the 1-star experience.

But I have to say, not only are they super fast as advertised, but suppose they forget something (it happens to us all) they will have another courier right behind that one with your item and some extras as an apology. It was at my front door before i even realized they forgot it.

Also you can customize how you want it delivered in case you are busy etc

These guys are trying to make a name for themselves and it shows.

During the hurricane storms currently hitting NYC, they were still able to deliver in 10 min (I think under, actually) with very high quality items - nothing damaged. To put into context how amazing this is, all other delivery services including restaurants are estimate 78 minutes + for delivery. Items delivered with a hand-written thank you note and an organic chocolate bar due to it being our first order. Well done!

Gorillas is amazing. Somehow this company is able to deliver my groceries faster than I could think and pick what I needed. Totally beats other grocery delivery services, especially since I don’t have to wait for the order to show up in a 1-2hour window. I especially love that when I need that one item that I ran out of, or didn’t have, this app has no problem delivering just that item. No minimum on orders is AMAZING. Go this app!

I am so surprised with how fast they are! When I read the 10min or less promise I was actually laughing thinking in NYC, no way! But they were here before the 10 min, with all my items, nothing broken, rotten or missing. The delivery guy was super friendly and I got a small chocolate from them as a free gift for first order. They were the definition of excellent customer service!

I don't know how they do it but they deliver groceries to my door in five minutes or less. The only time I had a problem with my order, they came back in 10 minutes with a missing item and an apology note complete with an extra snack! I cannot say enough good things about this company and their drivers. It has been a literal lifesaver during the epidemic. I wish them a brilliant future.

I’m a little disappointed that they figured out time travel and decided to use the technology on grocery delivery. I mean in my dimension Stalin and Hitler still existed, we haven’t cured cancer, and we are still locked down from Covid19. But I got my groceries in record time which was unbelievable. Literally faster than I could do it myself and selfishly I’m glad they used time travel to get me my groceries. Best. Investment. Ever!

I have been on the hunt for a reliable, convenient, simple grocery delivery service that has healthy, quality products. I am gluten & dairy free, and they have all I could need. I noticed I didn’t have any eggs left this morning, I ordered with them & my order arrived in 9 MINUTES!!! I am absolutely in love with this service & plan to be a LONG time customer (: Thank you guys for all that you do.

I had an excruciating headache and ran out of Advil. The this app came in minutes- faster than it would have taken me to walk a block to the store. (I’m in NYC) Thank you this app! My first “trial” grocery order also came unbelievably fast and contained a lot more items. Do they just go in and steal everything? Are they marathon runners? :) Keep up the great work!

As a naturally skeptical New Yorker I never believed that an app that tells me it will deliver in 10 minutes will actually deliver in 10 minutes. But this app made it happen delivering to my door within 9 minutes from my order! Loved the experience and can’t wait to order from them again.

1st, From the time that I put my order in and the doorbell rang, 8 mins had elapsed. 2nd, I was a first time customer and they gave me a little chocolate bar with a note, 3rd, they sent the wrong drink but within 3 mins, they had come back with the correct drink AND another little freebie with a note of apology. The whole experience was great—highly recommend.

I can’t say enough good things about Gorillas! I got my groceries in 8 minutes, they had so many options and the interface was easy to use (downloaded Gorillas and placed my order all while I was walking), the delivery guy was super friendly, AND I got this cute handmade postcard thanking me for my first order. They even threw in a free chocolate bar and cold brew beverage.
