Maybe I’m just too dumb for smart bulbs
2022-05-23
by Eariemen
I have 7 smart bulbs. I thought it would be great to just call out to Alexa to turn on living room or bedroom lights. I can’t get them to run smoothly. I grouped the bulbs into living room snd bedroom on the list app. Every time I ask Alexa to turn on bedroom or living room lights, She says I found several. I tell her to turn them all on. She says do you mean AW1003 or whatever the bulb name is. She never turns them all on. I can do it from my phone app but I didn’t really want to open up an app to turn on my lights. I thought the voice command would be nice.
Also my power went out today snd I had some blinking lights. Not all just some. App said they were offline. Ended up deleting all bulbs and adding them again to get the blinking to stop.
Couldn’t find a way to delete a group without deleting bulbs first so then had to add them again. The help feature on SYLVANIASmartWiFi was no help to me. It wasn’t just me. I had my 21 and 25 year old sons trying to figure it out too.
It’s not easy to use in my opinion. Wish I hadn’t purchased them.
Can’t connect

I’ve tried the easy and advanced methods for connecting the smart bulbs to SYLVANIASmartWiFi. Both methods have been completely unsuccessful with all bulbs that came in the box. I have a mesh wifi system with 2.4 GHz and 5.0GHz bands but this is the only smart product I’ve had issues connecting with. I’ve connected tp-link 2.4GHz smart plugs with no issues whatsoever along with some 2.4Ghz kasa smart bulbs that paired up instantly. These products on the other hand take 100 seconds to tell me it failed to connect and still don’t work after turning off my 5.0GHz band with my router. The bulbs show up in SYLVANIASmartWiFi but every time after waiting until the bar hits 100%, I get the same “Failed to connect” message. Please help or fix this issue as I got these for my mothers birthday and can’t set them up. I’m about to lose my position as the tech guy in the house because of this.
Terrible App Terrible Company

Bought 4 smart LED strips, one would not go into pairing mode, while the rest blinks a blue light but app does not sync. Called customer support, they had no answer for the problem. Tried everything from changing my wifi to 2.4 to turning lights on and off as suggested- 5x -with no success. Even the users manual was outdated that came in the box (different brand).
I did my research prior to purchasing these and reviews implied they are expensive because they are considered the best, boy did was i a sucker. Terrible china made products! Never again.
Works but can’t remove groups of devices.

App works as expected but if you set a group there is no way to delete it. I set up a “bedroom” with two bulbs before decided I didn’t want use the bulbs there (turning off at the lamp instead of app confused the bulb). I still use two other bulbs in a separate room, but there is no way to remove the groups “bedroom”. I have removed the bulbs but the group of no bulbs remains. There are “groups” and “rooms”, I don’t know what the difference is. Long press on the groups takes you to device management to remove single bulbs, not groups.
SYLVANIASmartWiFi is fine. It’s simple to setup and to use, but I find having to grab my phone and locate SYLVANIASmartWiFi in the middle of the night, or while I’m carrying a sleeping child to bed, a bit clunky. It would be so convenient if there was a controller app for my Apple Watch. On that same vein, SYLVANIASmartWiFi could also be optimized for iPad use. It works on the iPad, but it’s just the phone version, so it’s not visually graceful.
Notifications don't notify

In general this is a pretty good app and the lights work well with Alexa. The issue is that sometimes the bulbs will randomly go offline. There are notifications that I have setup but unfortunately this only notified in SYLVANIASmartWiFi and doesn't give iPhone notification or even badge on all to indicate there are notifications. All notifications for SYLVANIASmartWiFi are enabled. If notifications worked correctly I would rate SYLVANIASmartWiFi higher.
No Brightness Memory

The setup is easy and straight forward (at least with my setup), and SYLVANIASmartWiFi has some good features. I do wish it could interface with HomeKit, but that is more likely a hardware issue than software. My biggest disappointment with SYLVANIASmartWiFi is that the brightness settings do not seem to the scenes or automations. I set a very low brightness to wind down for the evening and when I run the scene the lights come on at 100%. The color settings also seem to be a bit wonky. I was trying to get an amber color and what looks like it should be amber on the iPhone come out as purple on the bulbs themselves. As I said, some nice features so they thought about what they wanted SYLVANIASmartWiFi to do, now they need to work on getting the bugs out. It’s a bit infested.
iOS app with little iOS integration
2022-12-30
by My2k1rS
I will open by saying that the hardware for the Smart WiFi + line is awesome: I have a set of 4 RGB A19 bulbs and a set of 4 outlets. The are super easy to set up and set schedules for. Overall, I am very happy with that aspect.
I will say that it is a little frustrating that an iOS app doesn’t talk to Siri and doesn’t have a Watch app...it feels like a halfhearted attempt. That means for items I wish to control manually, I am forced to use my phone. There is an alternative app that offers HomeKit integration, but SYLVANIASmartWiFi is specified for these units and works flawlessly.
There is an option in SYLVANIASmartWiFi to send a control icon to the homepage, which could probably be linked to Siri via the Shortcut app, but even if it works, this is a terrible workaround for something that should have been included in SYLVANIASmartWiFi from the beginning.
This is so frustrating that I’m giving SYLVANIASmartWiFi 3 stars instead of 4. If it had either Siri or the Watch app, I would give it a 4 and if both were here it’d be a 5 star review.
Can’t connect to Alexa App?!?!

by Kwalata
I have just downloaded the Sylvannia app, added a smart bulb, but when I try to connect to Alexa app, it goes to a screen that says “if you see this page, you are using a lower version of SYLVANIASmartWiFi , please upgrade SYLVANIASmartWiFi .”.
I just downloaded SYLVANIASmartWiFi , so it should have the most recent update. Beyond that, I did check abs it is, in fact, the most current release. I also checked the Alexa app, and it too is updated.
Basically I’m stuck and can’t use the SmartBulbs because they are not so smart. Any help would be appreciated.
I love SYLVANIASmartWiFi and the service it provides. It makes controlling my devices so simple and convenient. I mostly use SYLVANIASmartWiFi to control my lights. HOWEVER After I turn off the lights at night, I am always blinded by the bright white screen of my phone from SYLVANIASmartWiFi. Please please please update SYLVANIASmartWiFi with a night mode. It would be life changing. Me and my eyes are begging.
Very good app

I love SYLVANIASmartWiFi and the lights. Sometimes a light or two in a group doesn’t respond. I’ve been able to fix that by cycling the power to the light and/or going to the controls for that specific light and turning it on and off. I had one day where we couldn’t control any of our lights. However, updating to a newly released version of iOS fixed that.
Overall good but not perfect

These are the second set of smart bulbs I have gotten. These bulbs are more affordable than hue bulbs but more expensive than other entry levels bulbs and as such offer a wider array of color. Like any smart device, mess ups are inevitable but overall it’s a moderately priced bulb with more luxury features compared to bare bones, cheap people lightbulbs. Setup was easy - use SYLVANIASmartWiFi and sync with smart speaker was just as seamless.
Love these, and I’m pretty picky

I’ve been using these smart leds for about 6 months now, and overall i find them to be pretty great. I love how I can control the mood of my lighting anywhere in the house with just the touch of a button. The groups are fairly easy to make and the scheduling is really cool, I use the scheduling feature on a daily basis. Especially handy when going out of town. They can even turn on when the skies get dark or rainy.
I have noticed that sometimes, a light will just randomly go out and SYLVANIASmartWiFi won’t recognize it anymore. This could be user error, but I find that when a light goes out I have to get a ladder, climb up and unscrew the actual bulb, and then screw it back in again to reboot it and get the bulb to turn on again. I’m finding at least one bulb randomly goes off about once every week or so. I use 13 of them throughout my house.
In my master bedroom, I use Philips Hue LED, which are way pricier (or were when I got them 4 years ago). The Philips, in comparison, are incredibly reliable lights, I have never had to climb a ladder and reboot one. Their app is also just as functional, but more intuitive and aesthetic. But for the price, the Sylvania’s are pretty great. I think they were around $25 cheaper per bulb than the Philips Hue. Hope this helps!
Magical, but missing a critical feature

Sylvania smart products have basic settings, but they also have “effects” that allow for more complex sequences of events, like having your lights fade from red to blue in a cycle. Unfortunately, effects can’t be referenced in shortcuts, so these special features are generally left unused. I would love to see effects added to the list of options available when creating a shortcut, since SYLVANIASmartWiFi and is beautifully designed to integrate into Siri as well as other virtual assistants, and I think it’s a shame that effects aren’t already part of the party.
Love that these are so very easy to set up and so fun to use with SYLVANIASmartWiFi and Alexa! They’ve been in a box for a while because they definitely did NOT work in my dimmable ceiling fan. I just got them connected in the basement and my son and BF LOVE THEM! Definitely worth and it these 4 smart bulbs don’t require a smart hub.
Great product

These bulbs are so fun! From movie night colors to holiday colors to setting all lights on a timer or dimming from cool to warm.., beware it’s addicting! So much so that my college kids needed to have some for their apartments. The only problem is the company doesn’t carry the smaller sized bulbs and I don’t want another company bc that means a whole other app! But all in all, it’s great!
No hub required for voice control!

These Sylvania WiFi bulbs are great. I am using them with Siri Shortcuts to voice control with my IPhone and I gotta say they work very well! The process is done through SYLVANIASmartWiFi and it allows you to change the color and brightness or turn on and off the bulb/group of bulbs depending on what phrase you register the shortcuts to. I will definitely be buying more!
Very helpful video instructions

I watched the easy setup video via the embedded link in SYLVANIASmartWiFi and realized quickly that I need to use advanced setup because of my 5G router, I turned the lamp on/off 5 times, then pairing went through like a breeze, I am surprised that you don’t need to leave SYLVANIASmartWiFi to set up the bulb with Alexa, overall it is a pleasant experience and I recommend this product

I got the multicolor smart Wi-Fi bulb soon before Halloween and I really love being able to change the multicolors to fit the holiday and when snow has fallen change the colors as well I can change it on my phone from any location over cellular service great products also my first experience with a smart home product really recommend it
These remotes are awesome and very reasonably priced, easy to name and can setup schedule for as many times you want to come on and off any day and multiple times a day. Highly recommended. Tech support actually answers and is extremely helpful.

Can’t connect to Alexa..

The bulbs work well. I linked them to the SYLVANIA WiFi app with ease, but when I try to link them to Alexa, it opens a page in Safari that says, “Loading.. if you are seeing this page, you are using a lower version of SYLVANIASmartWiFi , please upgrade SYLVANIASmartWiFi .”
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled both the SYLVANIA and Alexa apps to ensure I have the latest versions and I still get this message.
Big bug makes this frustrating

I love SYLVANIASmartWiFi and I would give it five stars if the brightness wasn’t jumping to 100% in the automation “Scenes” and “Routines” after I save them. Makes the automation all but useless for me if I can’t set the brightness.
I have found a work around by just setting the brightness on the bulb and using the scenes for just turning the lights on or off, but if I want to change the brightness through any type of automation the answer is a big NOPE. :/
This one thing being fixed and I would give this a solid 5 stars.
After updating iPhone 11 and series 3 watch I can no longer use the watch to run shortcuts. The shortcuts are listed in the shortcuts app under the Apple Watch. Prior to this SYLVANIASmartWiFi was 5 stars and hopefully they can fix this issue.
Difficult to set a fade in wake up schedule

It connected easily and is not to difficult to use but it does seem a little difficult to set a basic fade in wake up alarm
Pairing and GUI

by Chelltim
I commend SYLVANIA for Advance Pairing more being a solid solution when the regular mode pairing didn’t work. I live in an apartment - I assume that’s not helping.
The UI is great to navigate and looks superb! Perfect for this sort of thing. Perhaps giving little explanations of the present window within the settings of each window would help newbies learn some concepts faster. Moving around is slick and makes sense!
Bug, possibly: It seems my scenes cannot save the brightness of their saved individual lights. I set a color and brightness and the brightness has jumped to 100% on returning.

The Sylvania Smart Wi-Fi lamps offer good features and functionality. The lamps paired with my routers without issues. Worth the money, will buy more of these !
The SYLVANIA smart WiFi lamp is great product. Easy to pair and operate.

I could see some people could get confused because SYLVANIA has two apps, I used the WiFi app for the WiFi products and it works without issues, beautiful color and works well to replace my regular A19 bulbs

I've connected a couple LED lamps to the sylvania smart wifi app and confirmed the latest version of the app and my amazon alexa app. If I try to connect to Alexa from the sylvania app, it takes me to my alexa app then opens a browser page and says, "If you see this, page, you are using a lower version of the app... If I go to alexa and try to enable the sylvania smart wifi skill, it takes me to the login page at sylvania, says invalid username or password. I've verified both on the app and even tried binding my phone number but it still will not authenticate sylvania to alexa. thoughts? btw, I'm a system admin so feel free to use techy words, lol.
