Recently had a climatemaster tranquility 22 unit installed which I love. Not to do with myUplink but if getting a geothermal unit installed make sure you get someone who is skilled at installation especially if replacing an existing unit. There are lots of general HVAC service providers, who only dabble in Geothermal. you want someone who does a lot of units and knows the ins and outs of installation and maintenance. The new unit came with a climatemaster igate2 thermostat for which you will need myUplink to connect.
Pros
Easy user interface
Has all of the standard functions you would want (setting schedules, controlling humidity, monitoring water temps and air temperatures)
Cons
Pairing is a pain. I couldn’t figure it out. But my installer told me you have to wait for it to update then manually input serial number and this app string which worked.
App says this app premium services are currently available for testing purposes at no charge but that this period is subject to change. I can say I would be a little miffed if I had to pay for this apps functions as the functionality is is pretty basic for 2023.
You can not set alarm metrics (except for filter cleaning reminder). my Honeywell unit that I just replaced (changed because my installer said Igate2 would control my geothermal better) had this functionality. For example low temperature alarm is set at 40 degrees. I would prefer this to be 55. If the temperature in my house hits 55 I know I have a problem. Why would I wanna wait until I get all the way down to 40°. By the time it hits 40 I may already have some frozen pipes in the external walls.
Also sometime the information in the user app is somewhat delayed by perhaps an hour or two. In particular, I would say this applies mostly to the interior temperature of the house.
Also would be nice if it provided more information about usage information. For example: usage time spent in in first and second stage, overall estimated electricity consumption, estimated water usage, etc.
I do think if climate master is considering charging for additional functionality to increase the revenue, these would be things that I think would be above and beyond the standard thermostat in 2023. I would probably be willing to pay for the additional functionality of being able to control alarm settings, and these additional usage metrics. Provided it was a one time fee and not a recurring subscription
Overall, I’m giving it five stars because currently I’m not being charged for it [other than that I paid climate master a crap ton of money for a geothermal unit and the thermostat itself :-)] and I would say that it meets standard functionality expectations in 2023 and works well with the Geothermal unit and has a usable user interface.
