Still broken April 19th 2022

Toyota was good, then it went bad, now it’s gone worse. Do Toyota developers actually drive cars? Do they all go to work in Ubers? Please make Toyota work with my car (Prius). I don’t need advertising. I bought the car on its own record. I don’t need more stuff linked to the outside world. I just want my tire pressure back. I just want my fuel gauge to look like one. If I thought Toyota was part of the purchase price of the car, I want a refund for the price of Toyota . You can have it back. And yes, I called this app customer service and they very politely gave me a “case number” with a form letter promising someone who would “reach out to me”. Guess which day I received all this:
1 April! Is this irony?

Still Horrible with Entune

Toyota is a horrible replacement for the Entune app which was already awful to start. I don’t know how or why this app STILL can’t seem to get their “technology” to work.

At least the Entune app automatically opened/paired with my phone once Bluetooth was connected, so searching for GPS locations, weather, and other in-car apps would function. Every time I get in the car, I have to let the phone pair to the car stereo, open the this app app, try to find where they’ve currently hidden the in-car app info, and manually connect it to my car. It’s very frustrating.

Half-hearted effort without automatic dark mode

It's just expected for apps to have a dark theme in 2022 but why bother adding it and not the option to switch based on the system theme? Also what's the point when the loading screen is still white and blinds me even when I have the dark theme enabled?

Basic features work well, but it doesn’t update properly

Definitely still some work to be done on Toyota . I love being able to remote start my Highlander Hybrid from a half mile away, inside a convention center, hotel, whatever. But, once started, the timer counts down, and it continues to say the vehicle is running if the timer runs out, or you go out and open the door, etc., and the engine shuts off. Really big disconnect! Also, not happy that the engine shuts off when the door opens. It doesn’t matter if it’s hot or cold outside, it should continue to run. Make the safety feature trying to put it in gear without the fob present, not opening the door. That’s a very poor choice, since you can’t remote start without the doors being locked.

Also, when remote starting in cold weather, I love that it retains the seat heater settings, but I can’t see any way to turn on the front or rear/side defrost systems, and those settings are NOT retained, when the vehicle is shut off. It’s a very odd and unfortunate series of features, and it was particularly obvious who disjointed this system is, today, when my car was covered in ice and snow, warmed up 10 minutes, then shut off just before I got outside. My phone said it was still running, the front windshield was not defrosted, but my seat was warm when I got in.

The dev team needs to work on this some more with engineering and turn this into a much more logical set of options.

Lost a feature!

Before the most recent update there was a feature that allowed the user to check the tire pressure, now it is not in the most recent update! Now that app is completely useless to me because I do not have the capability to use it for unlocking my car or starting it!

Tire monitor pressure is back again!

Thanks for bringing Tire monitor pressure back !
It is the best and only function I have and the reason why I have Toyota !

New Version Same issues

Just updated Toyota and the same issues exist. Can’t login because Toyota can’t validate who I be. I’ll continue to save my money and bypass the limited features and no functionality.

Still missing tire pressure monitoring

V2.0.1, still missing tire pressure monitoring. I gave up on this app. This will be first and last this app car I own. I wish this app Japan Headquater will see this. But don’t think they will…

The little thing that is killing a great brand

I expect a seamless, reliable, and delightful experience from a this app product.

Toyota does not deliver in any way.

Come on this app! Just make this work.

I purchased a new Tacoma sold on Pandora accessibility. That ended a few months after the purchase. Now even access to the alternative has failed.

Overlapping windows hide info under them

After a forced update, trying to use the version 2.0.0 on an iPad in landscape mode, there are windows or layers of info that you can see part of the top lines of info overlaid by other layers that it appears you should be able to pull down to reveal the info underneath, but, whether you try pulling down with one finger or multiple fingers, they just don’t pull down. In portrait mode, a little more info is visible above the tops of overlaying layers, but still can’t pull down the top layers to see full pages underneath. Was this designed only for iPhones? Please fix for use on iPad also, it is useless except for remote start, which is the layer on top of all the others, so it’s the only one you can see all the info on. Please make previous version available again, since that worked great on my iPad!

After more fiddling around, I found the odometer info and the miles to empty info is more visible if I use portrait mode, then apply split screen so that the this app app’s window is only half of the screen width, then overlaying layers drop down a little at the top to make odometer and miles to empty fields show full numbers instead of just top pixels of the numbers. Toyota seems to be scaled only for smartphone, and not iPad. It needs to be programmed to have flexible scaling that adapts to all devices in both portrait and landscape modes.

Unreliable source of remote start the engine

this app is good at making long last engine. However there are a lot of improvement needs for their software skills. This digital key is really unreliable when remote start your car. Sometimes it works n sometimes it doesn’t. The time of running engine only last for like 10 minutes. You can’t increase the time. I live in colder State. My other cars used Astrostart which gives me the option to choose from 1-60 minutes of time running. I have a 1 year free subscription because I bought Rav4. but I’m gonna cancel this due to many failures n not meeting the standard of a digital key. Tbh, Hyundai is much better when it comes to software n digital key. Not to mention Hyundai fob key also has a separate start button which is much better thsn this app key fob whereas you need to ‘lock, lock n lock’ to start ur car. n if your car is out of your sight. you have no idea if your car successfully started or not because the key fob doesn’t give out any indicstors page from your car. Another annoying thing is when you remote start ur car, then when you approach your car n try to open the door. The engine will stop. So you have to manually start your car again. this app reasons it with “Safety” but that’s so annoying n unnecessary. I don’t see any safety issues. Just let the engine continue running when driver gets in. To sum up, this app needs to rework on their digital key n their fob key as well.

OK but…

I have a 2018 Camry XSE. Bought new 3 years ago. For 95% of the time the remote start function ($8/month) has worked fine. The problem is when there is a problem. Today, I cannot log in to Toyota . Call the support number. After 10 minutes of wasted time providing every piece of information possible, a nice lady says “oh, Sirius XM provides the support for your vehicle now”. I assume this is because it’s now over 3 years old and they push off the “used” fleet to SXM as they would handle enrollment and free trial on a used car newly purchased. I know this is not good. To no one's surprise, the Sirius XM rep is clueless. Instructs me to get in the car to reactivate. I explain to her it’s not a problem with the car, it’s a problem with logging into the application that has worked for years. I doubt she owns a this app or has Toyota on her phone. She gives me the first number I called so I’m put in a circle. I don’t bother. Usually, these things work themselves out on Monday morning when I suspect the nerds come back to the office and realize there’s been a problem all weekend. Reset some things and I can then log in again. This is typical of every time I’ve had an issue with the remote start function. Horrible support from people that probably have no idea what Toyota they’re supporting even looks like.

Stop actively using my location when app is open in background

Ever since at least 2 versions ago Toyota : (1) does not permit Face ID for access. You get a note when you open Toyota saying they are aware of this problem and are “working on it”. Ok- but it’s been weeks! Even worse, the “remember me” option does not work, so you have to type your login and password every time you want to access Toyota (even if you don’t close it- Toyota logs you out spontaneously even when it remains open- a whole other issue) and (2) when app is open in the background, the blue bubble appears behind the clock on my iPhone X, meaning Toyota is actively using my location. My tracking setting is set to “only while using” for Toyota. I’m sitting on my couch watching MNF. I’m not using Toyota for anything. Why is it using my location just bc Toyota is open? That’s illogical. It’s like if google maps was actively using your location when open, even if you haven’t entered a destination. Makes no sense. If I turn location services off completely for Toyota , then every time I need to use Toyota for something requiring access to my location, I have to change my phone settings to allow access to Toyota again. I’d employ the more obvious work around — closing out Toyota when not using it— but the Face ID access is broken (see #1 above) so that’s not feasible either. This is nonsense. Please fix it!!

App is crap!!!! JUNK

Second update. Figured i would give it another try. Was going to leave feed back from with in Toyota . But guess what this app that junk don't work either. Its says oops something went wrong.
You cant even make that work. In 2 months you still have not made improvements. Worst app ever. Too much trouble to even try to use. Reconnect every single time i get in the vehicle. Thanks for the customer experience.

Update. app is still junk. this app finally got the entune apps back if ur lucky enough to get it to connect. Every time i get in my truck i have to open Toyota and go through several clicks to connect to the truck. But WHY do i have to leave my phone screen on to be able to use Toyota. Why cant i turn my screen off and Toyota run in the back ground? this app u are ruining ur reputation with Toyota and driving away paying customers. I have 2019 tacoma that has the entune radio. Did use the entune app until it made me delete it and download Toyota. I lost all use of the entune apps on my radio including the ability to search destinations on my phone and transfer to the truck. Toyota is junk only allows me to schedule appointments and look at useless manuals. this app took away everything they sold me in the radio section. This is my second tacoma and it will be my last. If this is the best this app can do then they cant do much.

Disappointing

Toyota is buggy. I drive a 2020 RAV4 limited hybrid. Toyota doesn’t work with a new car. Nothing updates or connects. Spent a lot of time on calls/hold with the service number trying to get the VIN to work, odometer to update, and controls to respond. Still doesn’t work but I was told Toyota is still being worked on. I feel like this app is falling behind in the software department (e.g. app, camera GUI, infotainment system, etc). Mechanically their products are great but the software is worrisome. Toyota needs to be fixed before I’ll open it again. Please work on this problem. As a new buyer, Toyota was a big part of the car’s appeal. It’s disappointing that it does not work. I think everyone who can’t use the remote connect services should have an extension to their free trial period. Thanks!

By

No complaints!

I downloaded Toyota after downloading remote connect, I didn’t know it was two apps, this is my first this app, I always had OnStar/ Chevrolet. Anyways I have no complaints, even though I downloaded Toyota the last minute, both apps work the same, the only difference Is only one works with Apple Watch, so I keep both for that, but mainly use Toyota b/c the interface is better on main screen. I’m happy I left Chevy for this app, I might miss the remote start icon on the keyfob, but I still can use remote start with this app keyfob also, just a little differently. LoL

Could be so much better

I don’t typically do reviews but I do like to read them when I purchase or buy things that I want/need. Toyota is completely useless and worthless. I have a 2020 Camry Hybrid and Toyota used to work when I first signed up for the service and now it’s just garbage! It won’t connect to my vehicle to lock or unlock the doors or remote start/stop. The icon just spins and says connecting...but the mileage and fuel gauge will update in Toyota . Makes no sense to me. I’ve even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Toyota several times and restarting my phone. Nothing works... lucky I even have it two stars but I thought why not since it does have potential to be useful.

Solution

The review post on December 22 was really helpful. Toyota stopped working and was stuck on connecting on my new 2020 Camry XSE. Looking for online solutions were hard to find and I decided to looks at some reviews to see if it’s only a problem for me. Turns out a lot of people are having this issue, but thanks to one of the reviewers they showed us a way to reset the system. Thankfully it worked. Now let’s see how long before I’ll need to reset it again.

Just Plain Janky

My app has no problem talking to my Tundra, it’s the functionality that’s a complete bomb. Login to Toyota may be quick or require selection of the “use fingerprint” button. It updates the fuel gauge and miles every time I launch Toyota , but not the door lock/unlock status. The lock button works usually, the unlock button not so much. The start button worked 2-3 times, but is now stuck on “Stop Engine”. Nothing I’ve done so far has fixed it but since the truck shuts off when you auto start and then grab the handles, not sure I’d use it anyway.

It’s as if Toyota was conceived on weed and tested in your mom’s basement. The breadth and depth of bugs on Toyota are amazing for anything with a this app brand.

This app is garbage!

I drive a 2020 RAV4 Limited Hybrid, everything was marketed as using the ‘this app Remote Connect’ App when attempting to load the VIN in the TRC app it said it was not supported and directed me to this ‘this app App’. The other app has much better reviews and very good user interface. Toyota is almost worthless, initially you could not use a smart watch with Toyota - this was added a week ago... finally. My tire pressure does not show, it says it is unavailable. It will start the car remotely about 80% off the time. However, as soon as I touch the car handle it shuts off - - what is the point????
The usability of Toyota is not intuitive at all, it requires just touching different icons to see what is available.

By

Conflicted....

Just purchased a 2020 Tundra Limited(for those that would say buy a newer Tundra) Toyota has great potential, needs drastic work though. I can see all of the “diagnostics” on the truck, and I think that the guest driver settings work(I get notifications that the profiles have been activated, have not seen a functional change yet, we are going to test that this afternoon). However, the remote start, unlocking and locking does not work. Nor does it truly update the current start of doors opened/closed and locked/unlocked portion. Once these are fixed I would update the rating on Toyota .

By

It works..

But what is the point of remote start if it shuts off right when I open my door?? That seems so pointless to me. I have a 2019 rav4 limited, with all the upgrades and being able to remote start was the most important as were in Arizona and it’s hot.

3 stars only because it’s worked every time, but it’s not worth it if the car shuts off when you open the door.

My vehicles not showing up

As the other reviewers have pointed out I’m in the constant loop of logging in and being prompted to add a VIN, then it never adds it. My vehicle shows up when I use the same account/ log in on the this app owners website and entune3.0 website.

And no I am not calling the 800 number to address this- Fix Toyota !

Update- now I added a second car and all I can access is the second car- the first one is no longer in “my garage “. When I try to add it results in error it’s already on the account.

By

Half the Time Does Not Work

Toyota is one of the worst I’ve ever used. I’ve already set everything up and have used Toyota successfully. It won’t even let me log in half the time. And then when it does let me log in Toyota tells me to enter in the VIN number of my car (even though I’ve already signed up and done this). And when I try to do that it doesn’t work either. Only way I’ve gotten Toyota to work is to uninstall and reinstall it. Which is completely impractical to do when I want to use Toyota .

By

Stoped working

One week in my new this app Tundra and Toyota will not start the vehicle. I am with everyone in saying what is the point if it shuts down the vehicle when I open the door. Needs more work and if all continues I would be marking it at a two star. this app you have the time and money to fix this.

By

Disappointed

Not available for my car. Apparently the 2020 this app Corolla is not equipped with the hardware to support any of Toyota features; so what’s the point in registering for a this app account when you can’t use the services. Really this app? I’m gonna need you guys to get it together. I love the car but it would be nice to have it warm up before I go outside or to lock and unlock the vehicle when needed.
A shame to have a brand new vehicle and not have it equipped with the necessary hardware to support Toyota features that we love new cars for.

By

Stuck on engine stop

Since i put Toyota on, i started my truck 1 time then turned it off manually then on Toyota it still said stop engine. I even deleted the truck and put it back on but it was still stuck on stop engine and wont work even if i have the truck running. So i would be a bit worried to let a app controll my truck. If there is even the slightest possibility that it may start by itself and run in the garage without knowing.

By

Buggy

Which app is supposed to be used for remote connect? This one of the remote connect app? If I try to use this one (interface looks nicer) and login it asks for my vin. It should already have it since I have an account and setup the remote connect app already. But I put in my vin for Toyota thinking it’ll just sync it up. It fails saying the vin is already associated with an account. Yeah it is. The account I’m logging in with. Buggy.

By

Pathetic

I don’t get how Toyota communicates with my Tundra. The information doesn’t update and is always wrong. Kinda worthless. GM’s app works PERFECTLY every time and their entertainment software (Bluetooth especially) works flawlessly. this app builds great trucks, but the software technology is always subpar compared to other makers. You guys need to hire new software engineers. Entune was pathetic, and the current entertainment software in the trucks is only a step better. C’mon guys 🤷🏻‍♂️

About 75% of the time I go to gas price app and says not connected to my phone. I open phone and Toyota app says connected. But neither iHeart radio app or the gas station app will work. Sometimes it will work after. 16-20 minutes, sometimes never seems to work. Very frustrating. Have tried deleting app and reinstalling, but doesn’t seem to get any better.

A little ridiculous, probably the best car made and they got this crappy Toyota app. Get rid of that crew and start over

Jim staas   1 year ago

This was a big waste of money the app did absolutely nothing at all but cost me $80.00 don’t was your time or money for this app it sucks !!!

Ray S   1 year ago

My wife and I both own Toyota vehicles. She has a Camery and I own a new Tundra which I have had for a short while. The Camery never had the app but we installed it on the Tundra. We were very ticked off after finding out there is a charge per month after a short trial period. The app was fighting me on everything and took forever to load (maybe that is why the Tundras get such poor milage compared to what they advertise, because everyone is sitting in their driveway waiting for their apps to load while burning gas.) It also kept sending me annoying offers to buy other products after I already paid them 54,000. We are done with Toyota - I don't think Toyota has any idea what they are doing to their reputation and also angering people before they rate their vehicles. I would have went with an Ford F-150 if I had known this is what Toyota's turning into. Both of us have removed it from our phones. Wish I would have done my research before buying, but I had always been impressed with Toyota before.

Shireefa4207   1 year ago

Have a 2020 hatchback and have had issues with the android auto crap, issues with connected services. Last year I had to take car in after paying for the connected services and they had to update the computer or whatever so had to repay for the services, was promised a reimbursement but of course I didn't get reimbursed. Yesterday I thought IT SHOULD WORK THIS YEAR but noooo why would it? Now the stupid car can't connect to it so I get to take it in again! How convenient for a what should be convenient service since you take my money right away but don't look after the problem right away. I don't know of any other person who had a newer vehicle (non Toyota) who has to take their car in every year to get their connected services to work. Beyond pathetic. Very annoying and frustrating. I don't have time to waste but these guys think I do.

Mike Zoetmulder   1 year ago

It is a POS! Constantly telling me my drivers side door is open...it isn't. Completely useless app. Can NEVER connect from notifications. Has a constant notification that it can't connect that I can't get rid of. Will delete from my phone if not fixed soon.

James cortese   1 year ago

I bought two brand new Toyota trucks with Apple CarPlay for my company. salesman told me I would be able to see location on the app. he lied your app is absolutely worthless. We currently have a fleet of Fords and even the lowest line XL shows the location. We will not buy any more Toyotas.

William Yen   1 year ago

I love my 2022 Prius Prime but the Toyota app is almost useless. Toyota tells you that the tire pressures shown on the app might not be accurate and that has been my experience. Why would the app display incorrect tire pressure? I went out to lock my doors at dinner because the app told me that my doors were unlocked but they were locked. It is also not possible to lock the doors remotely.

R A J   1 year ago

Worked pretty well prior to the latest update. Now it's useless. Don't even think about having 2 different vehicles on it. It takes a very long time for it to connect to whatever it is trying to connect to. Fire the app developer and team.

Debbie b   1 year ago

New Toyota app update is horrible. A lot of features of old app had are gone. Can't make simple repair app. And app locks up.

VH   2 years ago

Bought the RAV4 in February 2022 and downloaded the app, I was so disappointed with the app, I expected better. I agree with all reviewers. I hope the quality of the car and the mechanics will hold up better than the developers for the app. I was also looking to buy accessories (running boards) for the car, when I clicked on the “shop” and entered in my VIN or using the drop-down list, the RAV4 is not listed.😱Update or no update, this app is useless.

Robert Marshall   2 years ago

This app is brutal. I have had my 2021 in 3 times and the app still has bugs. To top it off, now Toyota wants me to pay for it????? I think I could get a better app built if I asked elementary School kids to design one. Toyota will not get my $10.00/month. I would rather give it to a charity.

Norm Neill   2 years ago

This ap is very unreliable, works about half the time. Some times I cannot get a remote start my 2020 Highlander 10 feet from the car. Do not depend on it, Agree Toyota electronics way behind the curve.

Jason Andrews   2 years ago

NEW APP IS GARBAGE! Please bring back entune. Even that was a bit off, but it worked. I downloaded the new app this morning and can't get it to reliably connect, it keeps crashing, and it's severely draining my phone's battery. look at the app store reviews currently 2.1 after 10k downloads. (2017 rav4 limited and Samsung galaxy phone)

JEFF H   2 years ago

I have to agree with most of the complaints above, which is why I decided that I wouldn't pay Toyota's extortion fee to use connected services after the one year free trial. What I didn't know was that when they shut off remote start you can not lock your vehicle while it is warming up. The fob won't work to lock the doors while it's running! What a dumb safety flaw, or is that another way of forcing you to pay the fee? Either way my opinion of Toyota has seriously declined.
