I wrote a book using Milanote!

I’ve been using the desktop version of this app since it launched and I love it! this app has the flexibility and intuitive interface that helps me keep control over my crazy ideas. I used it to gather ideas, quotes, and images for my soon-to-be published book and I developed a workflow that makes it my go-to app for creative projects. I love how the iPhone app integrates perfectly with the desktop/web. I use the iPhone app mainly for gathering materials and jotting down thoughts which I then organize on my desktop or laptop browser. This is a great asset for writers, teachers, and creatives (and shared boards help for collaboration).

Spectacular App — Some Issues

Hello! Thanks for reading this review. If you are a potential downloader (LOL), I’d like to say that Milanote is awesome! Very easy to use, simple, as well as practical and aesthetic. Milanote can be used for many things, specifically organizing. I use it mostly to organize my books. It’s very useful and the functions are amazing! My favorite part is the template option, as there are so many of those to choose from! However, there are a few bugs. Specifically on my phone whenever I open certain ‘Boards’ Milanote will crash. It does not work unless I re-download it, which is impractical. Also, there are a few lacking features that could be added. this app handles it all well, though! (this app Pro is quite expensive, LOL. However, it is amazing and worth it considering how often I use it!)

It’d be superb if you guys could add a custom background option. Unnecessary, yes, cool, also yes.

Tool of Potential

There is a lot of potential and utility with this fluid board that satisfies white board lover and kabaan board style organization. While I still prefer to use a separate kabaan board for their focus on more utility, this app doesn’t disappoint in its ability to be a creative tool.

To me, if the developers can improve on these hot items this would be an easy 5 star tool.

There are MAIN flaws with this tool and they are utility and business model rather than the tool itself;

(1) No personal cloud storage backups, no backups of any sort. You can export boards to PDF, PNG, Text. However you cannot export to a this app file that can be uploaded, to restore a lost board.

(2) The ‘free’ version limits you to 100 items. That is extremely low and ties you down in creative flow. Referral boosting to the limit is minor. Double or triple that would feel better, and draw users to stay to complete projects rather than using 2-free tools.

(3) The ‘upgraded’ version is unlimited but is 120$ yearly. This is insult to injury when Trello (50$), GitKraken Boards (50$), and competitors are less than half the cost per year. big oof.

(4) There is no iPad version of their App. For creatives on the go, this challenges you when competitors have apps. I avoid Milanote and use the Safari browser on the go. I will use the iOS phone app to only do text or quick edits / additions.

I owe you my creative success

Since I saw Milanote and used the first 20 cards, I knew I would buy it. I started to invite my friends at first until I got 100 cards. And I filled them within a week of understanding what Milanote does. It changed my life, my workflow, and my creative process.

I used to collect my moodboard on my file browser, then got from folder to folder and open the image to look at it, then go back to my sketch or my photos or while brainstorming. When I started with this app it all changed. I would use the phone app to write my tasks, brainstorm on the spot, organize my shot list and locations all in one place, look at my moodboard before a photoshoot, never miss a task, follow up and assign tasks to my teammates and share my marketing plan on the spot with prettiest illustrations. I love you guys.

Sincerely
Hassan

Milanote!!! Yes…but

Agh. I’m love with the desktop version of this app, so I was very excited about Milanote . I would love for Milanote to be apart if my daily routine.

However, I have a few complaints that keeps me from that:

#1. I keep experiencing app crashes, especially when I copy and paste into Milanote . So frustrating! I finally just went on my laptop and did what I wanted.

#2. Can there please be a Home Screen widget??? It would be so helpful to have easy access to my boards from my Home Screen. Please please

#3 random bit, but it’s so frustrating that it opens to the quick notes page instead of my boards. Seems like a developer over site, because if people are coming from desktop and are used to seeing their boards right away it doesn’t make sense to have quick notes open right away.

#4 and this is one that has been growing for me lately…can there please be a way to quickly switch between different accounts. I’m thinking like how Microsoft allows you to switch between business and personal accounts so easily… it would definitely help integrate this to both my personal and work accounts

Great on desktop, not so much as an app

I bought a membership for this app because I really enjoyed the desktop application, but on mobile it’s usefulness is not so great. I can’t move around cards so columns are useless, using Milanote messes with my layout, my ability to customize new cards is cut in half. I know that some things just aren’t gonna work the same on mobile , but the only thing mobile is currently good for is viewing the stuff you did on desktop and checking boxes. I hope in the future the developers are able to invest more time into Milanote , because I think a lot of features could translate very nicely to mobile.

Crashed for 24+ Hours

How can a web-based app crash for two days with no communication to its users and evidently no business continuity plan or server backup system??? Now this app seems sketchy, small and unreliable as compared to the big names in note apps. Can I really trust putting my critical notes (or even my unimportant notes) into this app anymore? Had to go to Twitter to get any info at all, only to see some confusing and minimal posts about updating my DNS cache and how their website registrar was holding them hostage (this shouldn’t be your users’ problem). The tweet triumphantly said “we’re back up!” but my app and website are both still down. Frustrating and unacceptable way to run a business and treat your paying customers.

Great! Please roll out a dedicated iPad app.

I just discovered this app today and I’m incredibly impressed! It’s already helping me pull together an idea I’ve been brainstorming for a novel for the better part of a year. I love how intuitive the platform is, and how easy it makes to export and even set up collaboration.

The only thing missing is a dedicated iPad app. A macOS and iOS app exist, but nothing for iPadOS. Is something on the way? I certainly hope so. If that comes together, this will EASILY become a 5-star review. In the meantime, I’ll stick to a browser if I’m accessing this app on my iPad.

Must-Have App

I utilize this app for absolutely everything in my life. No matter what I need to save, plan, outline, organize, etc, I go straight here!

The interface is beautiful, simple, and without any bugs from what I’ve seen. I can navigate easily and find everything I need without hassle.

this app is better on the desktop, however. I’d love to see this version get more love! Still, 10/10. Thank you to the creators of this top-notch app!

A Content Creator’s Dream

I really wish I remembered how I discovered this app, but I found the desktop version before Milanote 3-4 weeks ago. I played around with it once before, but today I actually created my first this app to convey a website page design layout to a client. It came out exactly as I envisioned and it was easy to export & save so that I can email it to my client. Thank you and I’m excited to continue using this wonderful app!

Great but also Useless

I thoroughly enjoy this app. It’s easy to organize, keeps everything in check and I can place personal reminders to get things done with a team; however, it’s useless via app. I can’t do anything on my phone but read what others are doing on their computers. I have attempted to contact customer service, and after some attempts of helping me — I practically got ghosted. Again, great source of communications for yourself or a team, but practically worse less on the phone.

If there is ONE app I cannot live without

I am gonna write another review in depth all. But omg I never felt more in love with an app. I’m an former engineer / architect / designer and literally every detail is thought out I want to work for Milanote if I could their product has completely reshaped my business model and I cannot thank them enough for their genius product!!!!! Just download it !!!!!

Excellent!

I just started using this app and I love it. It is the most useful and powerful app of its kind. Congratulations (and thank you) to the talented brains behind it.

I can see myself using it on a daily basis for my projects. The iPad app could be improved to mirror the desktop version of this app, add a landscape mode, an offline version for the subscribers. Once this is done, I can put mood boards together and show it directly to clients on my iPad.

A paid for APP type quality

Super simple to use, that drag and drop, on your computer, which is best viewed and to work on... cause it’s like having a Pin Board/story board layout that’s super simple to follow for a crew/team of people. Haven’t tried it on the iPad yet.

Amazing quality! Thank you this app.. for keeping things beautiful and simple to use!!

This app is MAGIC….on a desktop, BUT

MAGIC and marvelous on my desktop. BUT on iphone it’s nowhere near as easy to navigate and use. My main reason for 3 stars is that the ipad version is the SAME as iphone. WHY NOT bring the power and beauty and ease of use of the desktop version to the ipad? There is enough screen real estate and it would TRANSFORM Milanote into a truly helpful tool I can use quickly when on the go with my iPad. Not just when I’m in front of my computer. PLEASE PLEASE!!!!

Amazing!

I had been looking for a simple notes app to use for daily tasks, reminders, etc. and this one checks off all of my needs. Simple enough to use and works well between the mobile app and the desktop app. I have been using it everyday for a few months and no complaints!

Work of Art

Hello from a designer on Mailchimp’s mobile app team! 💫 Would love more formatting options from the web app, like linked text and strike-through, or adding columns (I use columns a looot, more than adding boards).

Also the ability to add a new card to an existing column?

Great app! This has changed my organization system overnight!

Lacking

This an extremely powerful application you’ve created that I love to use on my laptop. However, when it comes to using it on an iPad forget about it because you don’t even have an iPad version for some reason. Thinking about all the possibilities of a full iPad app with the touch screen navigation as well as the Apple Pencil functionality gets me so excited. Then I’m let down, PLEASE make one 🙏

Milanote is Fantastic

For visual and nonlinear thinkers and note takers like myself this app is amazing. It’s flexible visual boards allow me to place text, images and clippings from around the web to organize my thoughts and projects in whatever way makes sense to the work at hand. I love that this app adapts to my creative needs rather than me having to adapt my note taking to a traditional vertical format.

It should be an iPadOS app instead.

Milanote is great when it comes to functionality and features, but instead of being an only iOS (iPhone) app, it should have been an iPadOS app since the beginning. For many creators (designers, photographers, etc) the iPad or Mac is the main tool to keep up with the workflow on the go. It’s been enough time to make this happen. this app deserves an iPadOS app. After so many users begging for months for an iPadOS app, I realize that these people don’t really care 😪.

Much needed!

I love it. Thank you so much for this. It was much needed! I can’t wait to see all the future updates you guys have in store.

Every single creator that I tell about this app always comes back to me and tells me about how much of a game changer the service is.

I understand you guys have a lot in store but the only thing i would recommend is if you can make the board view look just like it does on the desktop version. Instead of just the scrolling type view. I don’t know if that’s possible to do on the phone, but I would love to be able to have that view for this mobile app.

Anyways thank you so much for this service.

Great App for Organizing Creative Projects

I would recommend Milanote to any creative person working on a project in ANY artistic expression field. I am currently using it to develop my very first novel. It has helped me tremendously by keeping things consistent and is helping me build my novel into a series.

I love the app but there are a few things...

I love Milanote as it really has a great few things over trellis and other organizing apps like the ability to be flexible with notes, placement, cards, columns... it’s really just the flexibility... but I can’t really move anything around on the mobile app... it becomes unorganized as I like to move things around to be categorized and in their right areas...

Love MilaNote Truly for Creatives

I’ve been working with this app for the last month and I love it. From brainstorming to organized outlines. A big perk is the export function. The only down side for me is the ability to use Milanote in landscape mode. It’s a picky thing, but when I’m using the keyboard on the screen of my iPad or iPhone I need the option to turn the screen vs it remaining static in portrait mode.

By

Love it

just downloaded and already love it and thinking of how to transition all my other apps into this. however, it would be so great if there was an ipad version and you could use drawings and written notes. especially for creatives. thanks and keep up the great work! if there was an ipad app it would get all 5 stars from me.

5/5

I just started using this and it is absolutely amazing! I’ve been using it for a little while now and it has so many great features. Not to mention it is so easy to use and I would recommend this to anyone.

Milanote is just amazing!

I’ve never written a review for an app. But this app just changed my mind. It’s so great that I can add photos to my mood boards through my phone when I’m on the go, and then organize with my laptop later on! A must have for artists or any creatives!
