Worst Experience with Client Management – Coaches Beware

As a board-certified lifestyle and functional medicine coach, I rely heavily on efficient client management software. I’ve used other apps that I really liked, but Practice Better came highly recommended for functional medicine practices due to its built-in forms. Unfortunately, my experience has been the worst I’ve encountered in this field.

Over the past three months, I’ve been stuck in a frustrating cycle of trying to address a basic issue with logging client calls. Despite numerous attempts to reach customer support, each response takes a day or more, and solutions have been either incomplete or ineffective. When I tried scheduling a support call, I was given a two-week waiting time—a completely unreasonable delay for anyone needing timely solutions in a fast-paced practice. I even closed my account and reopened a new one, hoping to resolve the issue, but the same problems persist.

Pros:

• Convenient forms for functional medicine practices (though I couldn’t effectively use them)

Cons:

• Poor customer service with consistently delayed responses
• Long wait times for support calls (up to two weeks)
• Recurrent issues remain unresolved despite multiple attempts

If you’re a health professional looking for reliable client management, I recommend exploring other options. For an app in the health field, responsive and effective support should be a priority, and Practice Better falls far short.

DON’T ADD CREDIT CARD

PracticeBetter will take your card information and take your money and take no responsibility for ANY unwanted charges or charges made in error. Basically they’ll take your money and say they aren’t responsible for getting it back to you. My provider passed away. I couldn’t exactly ask them or the family for a refund or ask them to stop my payments. PracticeBetter offered no solutions, they just said it wasn’t their responsibility. How are they unable to remove my card from their app???!!!

Journals are completely unusable

I could care less about the rest of the communication on PracticeBetter as I can, and most often do, use my computer for the heavy duty paperwork. The journals boast barcode scanning and are much easier to keep up with on my phone, so today was my first day to log my food journals and the entire experience was completely unsatisfactory. You cannot search for a brand name + product; it only pulls up the generic ingredient or you have to scan the barcode on your package to get the information specific to your ingredients. Creating a recipe of your own is an absolute nightmare and PracticeBetter has kicked me off multiple times without saving any of my work. Ready to throw it all out the window and go back to paper logging.

Slow and glitchy

I have used this documentation system for a month and cannot tell you how frustrating it is to be in the middle of documentation only to have it become slow and unresponsive. It regularly happens in the afternoons and intermittently at other times during the day. I can write a paragraph and then I have to sit there and wait for PracticeBetter to catch up. It may take ten or more seconds to load a single letter. It took fifteen minutes to load a five sentence paragraph the other day.

I have tried all of my devices: phone, tablet, and two laptops. I have also been on a variety of high speed wifi connections. It doesn’t matter.
The lag time and glitchy performance increases the documentation time 4 fold. It should never take an hour to write a SOAP note. The lag time significantly impacts clinician efficiency and is incredibly frustrating for me. If I was the practice owner, I would completely switch platforms based on my experience thus far, it has been that much of a headache. When it works, it’s great, but in my initial experience using this documentation system, it is unreliable and not worth it given the impact to my productivity and efficiency.

Some Feedback

I used PracticeBetter for the first time today and found it really frustrating that the food selections cannot be modified. For example, when building a recipe, there is no option to increase one chicken breast to two or more. I am used to using the Noom app which has this functionality. How can I build a recipe for one when I typically cook for two with leftovers for another dinner or lunch.
Maybe there is a way to do this in PracticeBetter but I couldn’t find it.

On a positive note, I like PracticeBetter layout, especially capturing time of day, mood and where food was eaten.

Scrolling Issues

PracticeBetter functions somewhat so I gave it an extra star. Otherwise, it is frustrating the h3!!Out of me. PLEASE fix the scrolling issue. When I click on my nutritionists protocol details on the home page, she has listed recipes under Nutrition Plans: My Recipes. There are 3 recipe lists and 2 plans. I have the absolute worst time interacting with this section. Sometimes it just won’t even scroll down and I have to exit the protocol tab and reopen multiple times to gimmy it to finally scroll down more. Then, I don’t even bother trying to scroll up again to see previous recipes that I passed because it simply won’t let me so I have to exit the protocols tab and start over again by slowly scrolling down to make sure I don’t miss the recipe I was looking for. This is basically the only reason I use PracticeBetter is to access my nutritionists recipes. Please fix this stupid problem or give me a work around!

Poor technical support

My nutritionist asked me to download PracticeBetter which I did. it asked me to provide my password and user ID which presumed that I had used it before. It also meant did I would have to reset my password. nine hours later and still no password reset link. Zendesk is providing the technical support here and it’s not the first time I’ve had experience with them. their support is substandard i’m asking my nutritionist to find another app to use

Deeply mediocre

I'm working with a dietician who uses PracticeBetter, and it is an easy way to communicate. Messaging, scheduling, and using the communication tools are straightforward and functional

However, the interface for journal entries is dreadul. It's time-consuming and frustrating to attempt daily journaling. Goal setting is a mystery. Entering individual foods feels backwards. PracticeBetter says, for example, that a serving of a dried fruit is 50 g, and shows the nutrition information. But I can't just enter that I've eaten 30 g. Instead, I have to calculate that I have had 60% of a serving. Other fitness apps are able to handle this. Entering the total consumed would be so much quicker.

And for whatever reason, PracticeBetter makers decided that a "glass of water" is 8.5 oz instead of 8 oz. More math to get my servings right. *eye roll*

Solid but room for improvement

It’s great for the breakdown of nutrition, as well as scheduling and messaging with your practioner.
However, it’d be nice to have PracticeBetter have more swerving options for sizes so we don’t have to figure out percentages.
Also, it syncs with Fitbit but not Apple Watch, which is a great pain.

Small annoyance- water serving is 8.5oz instead of 8. Not sure why that’s a thing.

Good, but

Very good and easy to record food. Love all the nutritional info associated with each food. Great ability to chat with your nutritionist. Recipes are easy to input but you cannot go back and see the recipe ingredients after you have saved it. You cannot edit the recipe at all which is frustrating. I have used the copy input which is helpful but it copies the whole meal and doesn’t allow you to pick what you want to copy from a previous meal.

Frustrating on the go

In my opinion an app should have the same features as the browser and be convenient. PracticeBetter is missing features available on the browser. It is not possible to start a new chat with a new client in PracticeBetter . There is no easy way to get to your calendar - you can see upcoming things but not what your past week appointments were. This defeats the purpose of an app at your finger tips anywhere you go.

Missing a few options

Live the ability to connect with my practitioners quickly and clearly on the video chat. Wish I had the ability to take notes while in session. Also do not have access to journal from my iPhone? Not sure why I don’t have the tab.

Works well for Practice Management

There are things that I wish were better but for a management system that will let you schedule, invoice, take payment, create super bills and bill insurance through an Office Ally integration it covers everything at a good price point. At my level it manages tele-visits as well. There are automatic confirmations, reminders etc etc. This is the basics of what it can do. It’s HIPAA compliant. I can not speak from the patients side but from practitioners side it really streamlines everything.

Best Health Management app

This is a great app for keeping track of your health. The communication that it allows me to have with my doctor and his staff is second to none. Everything is in one organized location. The ONLY reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is the food log. The food log is really good, but frustrating. The food you eat regularly comes up but only at the meal or snack you ate it at the day before. I also wish there was a place to check beside it to add it to your favorites. Other than this PracticeBetter is really a 5 star app..

Now what?

From a client’s point of view, I think PracticeBetter is excellent for the ease of use when logging data. The barcode scanner feature is efficient and the organization of food diary categories with their own sections for reflection/moods is very helpful.

I understand that PracticeBetter was created for clinicians to support their clients. Currently, I require support from my clinician, however, I will eventually be “weaned” from this support which leaves me wondering how I can transition and maintain some consistency with regard to logging data. I am working off of the assumption that a client’s access to PracticeBetter is no longer an option once they no longer require the services of their clinician. Is that assumption correct?

If so, is there a “sister app” to Practice Better for clients to continue logging data when clients no longer require the support of their clinician?

As a client, I have grown quite comfortable and accustomed to the user-friendly interface of your product but am concerned about having to transition to a different app with new interface and less or contrasting features. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Changed my life

Thanks to Dr. Mario Padron my life has changed dramatically. I started using Adderall when I was in junior high through high school and at the beginning when I was in the military. I quit taking it because I was made by the military to stop due to my circumstances and the programs I was in.. I couldn’t focus. I procrastinated everything I did put off everything I couldn’t finish one task didn’t understand what I was reading my reading. Comprehension was horrible. My mind wondered. It was all over the place.. this clinic, and Dr. Mario have changed my life completely for the better like it used to be my focus is there. I do not procrastinate I can read and comprehend after one time reading I listen to people I take my time and my focus is great overwhelming, feeling back to myself.. thank you Mario and all the people at the Indianapolis ADHD clinic. again it’s been life-changing for me so much appreciated Jeff Monday

Time saver and so helpful

This is such a helpful app for phone or computer. To have everything related to my nutritionist meetings at my finger tips. From prescription suggestions and timing each day if when to take things to even ordering more. To notes from the specialist to payment and billing info AND detailed notes about the protocol and diet to follow. Just love this!

Marina Salvan Review

Marina, my step mother, saw that I was struggling to juggle my weight gain, depression, anxiety, and gluten free dieting. In just a matter of a month, she helped show me the best way to cope with healthier food choices. She tracked what my routine was, helped me ease into the change, and gave me recipes options and food options. All that was still delicious. She took into account what I did and didn’t like. When I started this I was 145. In a month I lost 10 pounds. I never had any energy, motivation, or anything. I’m more confident, I eat healthier, and I got back into exercise. Thank you so much, it’s made a huge difference. Love you 😍

Best Scheduling App Ever

I have been using Practice Better for 2 1/2 years and it has done exactly what they promised and much more. My patients love it too! Scheduling is easy. Supports multiple practitioners with separate schedules with ease. I previously used Mind Body and will never go back. Thank you for a superior product!

Very useful

I really enjoy being able to track my fitness and nutrition so easily. I see that you can link a Fitbit product with PracticeBetter , but not an Apple Watch. Being able to link my Apple Watch with PracticeBetter would be a welcome addition!
