A Fantastic Extension for Lego Duplo Play

My son and I love how this extends our this app building play. We have both the freight and passenger locomotives and enjoy running both of them together at the same time (using separate phones and apps). We have purchased the additional track sets, as well, and have created very elaborate track layouts.

I only have a couple points that would be great to be fixed for LEGO :

First, as other reviewers have mentioned, the train controls in LEGO are close to the screen’s edge making it too easy to accidentally swipe and access iOS screens like “Notification Center”. And when you do, it often disrupts the Bluetooth connection — sometimes requiring turning the train off and on again to reconnect. This can be rather frustrating for me, let alone a 3-year-old. A work around to this problem is to turn on the phone’s “Guided Access” to limit any out-of-App functionality.

Second, the train whistle or refilling water sounds used to come directly from the locomotives. Now the only sounds come from LEGO or are absent altogether. This is disappointing since the control of the actual train whistle and external sounds was a fun part of the overall experience. I hope it’s just a glitch in the latest app update and will be fixed soon.

Overall, LEGO and the trains have provided so many hours of fun for my 3 year-old and myself. Thank you!

Obviously not tested on children

Virtually every control for the train is right on the edge of the screen, and you slide your finger to operate the controls. Well, guess what? Apple engineers use the exact same ‘swipe from the edge’ motion to switch between apps. Try explaining to a 2 or 3 year old that they can’t actually touch the edge of the phone when trying to grab the speed control knob which is literally .1” away from the edge of the screen. If your child isn’t exactly precise in their finger position they end up starting to switch between apps, and the instant you begin to switch apps, the Bluetooth connection is disconnected and you must wait about 5 seconds for it to reconnect. Incredibly frustrating. Even more so when you realize all the this app developers had to do to discover this issue is let one or two children use LEGO for all of 5 minutes before they realized how big of a design flaw this layout is.

I love it

“Thanks. I love it.” That’s my son’s first impression.

Now we’re wondering what happened to the music and sounds. Worked for an hour or less. Now it’s gone.

Did developers test this app on an iPad?

Concur with others... the train won’t connect with my iPad Pro. Inches away, Bluetooth is enabled, and location services are on (LEGO doesn’t appear on the Location Services list, so can’t be enabled individually).

Also, for anyone that uses an iPad with a stand (almost everyone) LEGO is stuck in an upside down position.

So yea, not good.

App is great but why so big?

LEGO works very well, easy to use, pairs easily with train. Fun to interact with the driver.

However, it’s the largest app on my phone taking more than 1 GB

A lot of fun

My 4.5 year old son and I really enjoy LEGO. He could figure it out on his own and it taught him a few new builds. Some really awesome feature for a free app.
Thank you.

My 3 year old loves it

In his own words:

“I like that it drives and it has Duplo Legos and a lot of presents.”

No sound

No sound on 6th gen iPad on version 15.3.1. All sound settings on, reinstalled several times. This the only app that doesn’t have sound on my device.

2cd review

No sound from LEGO on iPad Air 2. Newest iOS and rebooted multiple times. Reloaded app several times. Tech support seems nonexistent. Ipad says this is compatible. Useless if it’s not for iPad it shouldn’t be marketed as such.

App needs work

iPad screen stays in the same orientation and no sound at all

Can’t connect to Bluetooth

LEGO requires Bluetooth permission, however LEGO doesn’t show up in iOS settings to enable Bluetooth.

Loss of features: no water button anymore

asty regression in features. No thanks!

excessive size

Why in the world is a app to control a toy train nearly 750mb. That’s bigger than imovie, that’s bigger than almost any app

By
