I use PGe daily to read the Post-Gazette. It just keeps getting worse and more frustrating. It takes a long time for the paper to load. It crashes often. It freezes or lags constantly where I cannot move around or zoom in or out. If lags almost every time I zoom in on text. Sometimes the lag is 20-30 seconds at a time before it responds again. Since I no longer have the print edition of the paper available, this is my only option to read the newspaper in a traditional paper layout. I am ready to cancel my subscription since PGe is never updated and the issues are never fixed. Please update the bugs in PGe before you lose even more subscribers!

PGe is great for reading the paper. Unfortunately it slows down over time. Their solution is to delete PGe and reinstall it. It seems like there should be a better way. I don’t have to do this with other apps.
Today Monday Nov 13, 2023 PGe is trying to open the edition for Tuesday November 14. That is tomorrows paper. It does not exist. It is stuck. I deleted it and reinstalled it and it is doing the same thing. PGe would be great if it worked.

PGe is highly unstable. First the user is required to download the daily edition which often results in the yesterday’s edition coming up instead of today’s. Second, the current edition supposedly is downloaded but the screen is blank. This requires the reader to delete PGe and reinstall it. The Post Gazette needs better access for its readers especially since there is no longer a daily paper edition to subscribe to.

This historical publication has become a one sided editorial embarrassment. This was evidenced by the recent firing of political cartoonist Rob Rogers.
I will not read, nor suggest that anyone else take the chance of being presented less than accurate reporting and editorial decision making. What is printed can not be trusted as valid. There is no objectivity provided in an environment where choice is staple for decision making. When only one side is presented, there can be no democracy. This is a sad state of affairs that causes question regarding what information is provided as news.

We’ve been reading the this app original on our iPads for years, and it would always auto-rotate to portrait mode. With this new version we are forced to view it in landscape mode only. The text is too large and cannot be zoomed out. Extra scrolling is now required to navigate down each page.
To make matters worse, the this app original will no longer download new editions and is useless.

This “new and improved” version is definitely worse than the older facsimile edition which the Pgh P-G has recently stopped supporting. On my iPad, this version is extremely slow to load, freezes on pages unless one is continuously leafing through pages, and won’t resume where the reader left off but instead refreshes to return to the front page. An old fashioned paper was best, followed by a facsimile screen edition. This version fails at a distant third place.

Yeah like having an undependable paper boy. Works about half the time correctly. Sometimes it doesn’t clear the previous day’s version and others it doesn’t show the current day. Have to jump to their various platforms to get just a bit of news. I expect much better for something I pay so much for. You used to be credited when the paperboy did not deliver, not so with the crappy technology they use.

The original app allowed you to display the traditional print version in a vertical view so you could quickly scan down the page, like a traditional newspaper. The new app forces you into a horizontal view and requires more scrolling and you see less of the page. Please allow the traditional view of the paper to render in the old style vertical view.

The change you recently made in the obituary listing makes this section of the news slide useless. Names below pictures can not be accessed. The date of the obituary is unclear. It virtually is impossible to scroll from one obituary to the next.
I do not know what moron designed this new section, but I would strongly advise returning to the previous way of listening the obituaries.
I now just skip this section. It is worse than useless.

PGe tends to showcase old news. I am also disappointed that the traditional paper is being phased out. No regard to people of varying abilities with vision and cultural preferences. In fact, the marketing of PGe mocked seniors... I don’t believe that this would have been tolerated by any other marketing sector. Please be more sensitive to your faithful readers. Hate how the selection of first reads is preselected. Love the content. Upset with the down-your-throat format.

NewsSlide replaces the old PG app which had its own problems, but the new one only provides a limited selection of articles. The biggest flaw is the disproportionate number of sports articles, even though Pittsburgh is a big sports town, the undue emphasis is ridiculous. It’s mid April and some days there’s 4 Steelers articles, plus many for NHL, MLB, basketball and high school teams adding up to more than half the content.

Pg NewsSlide app is good, but the recent changes at the post-gazette are not. Is the post-gazette going to exist 10 years from now? It doesn’t feel like it. The Pg news slide app is the only way I can read pg articles without paying for it. I simply refuse to pay money to read the post gazette, so I guess I’m the reason why the paper has cut back on production, and why the news slide app is the only way I can read the articles for free. Used to be able to read articles directly on the pg website for free, but not anymore. The PG wants too much money for a subscription.

I updated to the new white this app app a few weeks ago. It says “A new edition is available” and I tap on it (on my iPad). It comes up with a blank green screen that says “menu” at the bottom and I wait and wait. Still nothing. Then I go to the 3 bars at the top left to “sections.” Only the first section shows up of the 3. I tap on it. And the whole thing disappears, back to my page of icons. Very disappointing. Didn’t have as many glitches with the old app.

The PG Newslide is a unique way to get some of the news. It offers the same article as on the PG web page, it just offers only a few. I suppose the thinking is if someone reads article on the Newslide they will want to pay for a subscription to their website and be able to access all of the articles. I have news for the PG — I will not pay for your liberal, left-leaning web page. I have read the PG for years and have throughly enjoy most of the sports coverage, (I stopped reading PG news articles a long time ago because of the liberal bias.). So not only are you losing me, a loyal reader of the PG sports, but I am not seeing the ads your advertisers pay to post on your site. Especially when I can read about Pittsburgh sports for free on the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review site, or any number of other free sites. Because of your website’s pay-wall you have lost me! Goodbye!

I love the news but PGe has issues. It keeps freezing. Sometimes after freezing it crashes and reloads. Sometimes it randomly crashes and reloads. If I leave the page or shut off my phone, sometimes it keeps my place but mostly it doesn’t.

The new white app I installed today works well so far. The only thing I miss from the previous black app version is the ability to click the word “Link” at the bottom, in order to toggle off the annoying blue, underlined linked headlines. I don’t use those links and prefer the headlines to appear as normal black text while reading.

I like PGe and the e-delivery option but I wish there was a setting to automatically delete old downloaded editions. If you download every day it’s a big effort to go back and delete old editions to keep them from using up too much storage space.

Screens freeze too often. Especially when trying to work the puzzles and crosswords. It’s kind of frustrating to freeze every 4-5 minutes for at least 30 seconds! Too bad that no one can fix it!

I like this news format and content. The display gets hung up sometimes and sometimes scrolling through articles it jumps back a few pages or doesn’t want to continue down in the article.

I was not expecting that I would end up reading more articles on the e version than in the hand held paper. I now will read articles I would quickly skim in the past. Keep yo the good work.
I still appreciate the paper version, especially the sudoku.
Thanks

I was never as extremely against the online version of the P-G as the individuals in the TV ads but I wasn’t a fan.
Now that I am using this app more often. I find that I read more of the ‘paper’ than I did with the actual paper. Somehow it is easier to focus on each article. I only gave 4 stars because I’m still getting used to maneuvering through the sections. It might get 5 stars after a few more weeks of use.

How is it not possible to automatically delete editions more than a week or so old? My iPad runs out of space monthly and only solution is to delete PGe and it’s 3 GB of documents to get the space back.

I appreciate the slide on those days the paper is not in in my driveway. As a 50 year subscriber since my 3 boys delivered from grade 3 until they each left for college, the PG has been a hallmark for us! I can’t begin to tell you how delivering and the route manager, John Radvan, molded those boys to become the responsible men they are today! I only hope you will never do away with the paper issue, though we don’t miss the inky fingers! Also, many thanks for publishing the crossword, celebrity scramble, etc. for those days there is not a paper issue! You at the PG are appreciated! Thank you! Whether sports, national, local, society, comics—anything, you are the very best! Luisa and Larry Nitowski

I really liked the Newslide format. This change is frustrating. First and foremost it does not work with the individualized text size feature so that even with readers I have to pinch and move around the text block to see the article. Second the games are NOT interactive as stated in the description but rather printable. I will try it for about a week, see if it is easier to read on my iPad vs my phone, but strongly anticipate canceling my subscription. I will miss local coverage if I do

I read the News Slide just about every morning and enjoy the presentation. I do wish, however, that PGe would auto delete stories from prior days. Unfortunately, every couple of months I have to delete and reinstall PGe to free up storage space.

When PGe was first introduced navigation between articles was very difficult at times. Now that is not an issue. Navigation is smooth and I enjoy reading the articles most days. An improvement could be to all access to previous days articles. Maybe as a subscription feature.

I am enjoying PGe. The articles are well written and grammatically correct. That was a pet peeve I had against the Post-Gazette online.
It is a great way to keep up with the news. The articles are balanced, thorough and articulate. There doesn’t seem to be the bias I see in the regular paper.
