4.8 out of 5
No Premium access

I was having issues right off the bat gaining premium access on iPhone. I requested support and got an email back very quickly. Their customer service is great. I followed the directions explicitly in the email to register for premium access external to the Apple App Store. The this app app asked for my credit card info which i happily provided, stoked to finally use GOWOD as intended. However, after I provided my CC info and submitted, it went to a loading screen and was loading for at least ten minutes before I closed GOWOD . When I opened it back up, I still had no premium access even after I provided my payment info. That is extremely concerning to me. It’s clear others have had success with GOWOD but for me it has been an enormous pain in the neck.

Connection errors and pricing complaint

I downloaded this and did the test. I then signed up for the free-trial HOWEVER, GOWOD will not recognize the purchase. I believe it is due to being signed in via Google but GOWOD uses GOWOD Store for subscriptions. These are very different for most people.

Also, when attempting to find a way to fix the above issue, I noticed that the monthly price listed under the “premium” tab in settings was $2 less a month AS WELL as with options for 6- and 12- month subscriptions. These are not offered via in-app purchase.

GOWOD might be great, but there are too many programming flaws for me. I am deleting and cancelling the subscription - yes, it went through on the Apple side of the equation. May try another day if you fix this issue.

Crashes

This seems like a fantastic idea to have however I have had several problems with GOWOD 1.) continuously crashes. I can’t even get through the mobility test even if I shut all the tags off and switch WiFi. Has anyone else has this problem? 2.) computer accessibility. It would be great to have access to use this program in both phone app and computer, for when you want to do your mobility work at home.

Although this review has nothing to do with the customer service I am solely leaving this review for the actual product. The customer service has been fantastic. They have even contacted me though Instagram messenger.

App could use some usability improvements

So I love the concept but for the amount being charged GOWOD needs some love. First off the videos don’t always stream and the spinner just spins while you are waiting. It blocks my ability to click on the go button so I can’t do anything. Next when I click the back button and I’m doing bilateral exercises, consider each side as a separate exercise so I don’t have to restart the whole sequence, just the one side I missed. Also switching out of GOWOD while the timer is running often freezes the timer or even worse resets it. If I want to start some music in the middle of a three minute stretch and it resets my timer that’s really frustrating.

Could be a 5 star app

Everything is great about GOWOD. I love the monthly tests for mobility and the daily flow. These things need changed for me to give a five star review:
- More than five seconds in between changing sides. I need more than five seconds to come out of my pose and switch to the opposite side (banded pigeon stretch for example)
- Be able to select more than one muscle group if I select stretches from scratch. I don’t know all CrossFit moves so I need to select the muscle groups I need when I’m doing just a lifting day.
- Be able to select the exercises (above) and create my own flow from those selected and not select one exercise at a time to do.
- Play the exercise video separately from the timer. I don’t know how to do every stretch and I don’t want time taken away from my stretching just because I’m trying to figure it out.
- Randomize pre routines better. I selected completely different exercises two days in a row and got the same routine from the day before. Please randomize flows better or fix the things above (creating my own flow).

The new app is buggy

Ever since GOWOD redesign, a number of bugs have surfaced in the “Daily” training protocol. If I select a 22 minute session, sometimes I get a 15 minute session. It’ll stop auto-advancing between exercises; this seems to occur more frequently if I skipped an exercise earlier in the session. It’s as if interacting with the session throws it off. Sometimes the labeled time and the timer do not line up; i.e. the movement could be labeled “3 mins each side”, but the timer will count down from 2 minutes. Finally, at the end of a session, sometimes it’ll end on a screen with a bunch of “undefined” labels. C’mon guys.

All of these add up to a relatively frustrating UX, when all I’m trying to do is relax and recover. It’s doubly frustrating because GOWOD was so perfect before the redesign.

Helpful at first

I dedicated 22 minutes a day starting on January 1 to improve my mobility. Within the first 4 months I saw great improvement. I retested each month and followed the program to a T. The last 4 months has been regression. I attribute this to the stretches not changing all year. It feels like I’ve done the Sampson stretch everyday. Recently they boasted a rewrite of GOWOD to include 60 new exercises, but I’ve never seen them. My program still is the exact same stretches every single day. Looks like I’m going back to romwod.

Good Idea, Could Improve

I love the idea of GOWOD . It gives you a pre assessment and you can track your progress, which is the only reason I am choosing it over other apps. The pre and post wod help, but could be a little more specific. The daily exercises don’t seem to change much, which can be boring doing the same stretches everyday. I’d recommend adding even more variations of stretching because after the first month you have learned all the stretches they provide and can easily program it yourself.

Good stretches, but I wish I could personalize more

Yes, there are new specific flows, but I still think GOWOD lacks a lot of personalization. Here’s a list of things I wish they would improve:

1) Allow the user to choose the workout time. The current options are 8, 15, and 22 minutes (excuse me if I left a couple times out). Why can’t I do a 12 minute session? Or a 35 minute session? Session duration should be left up to the user.
2) Customizable stretch times. Sometimes, the sessions want you to hold a position for 3 minutes. This is helpful at times but can be an annoyance at others. I think an option of “no positions longer than x minutes” would be a great improvement.
3) customizable equipment. Frequently, on the pre and post WOD modes, the sessions require items ranging from a foam roller, lacrosse ball, PVC pipe, and/or barbell. The user should be able to tell you what they have at their disposal and make a protocol off of that.

Overall, I think GOWOD is a great tool for improving mobility, possible one of the best on the market. But the lack of customizability is bothersome.

Danged near a 5!!

Fantastic app to get you ready, give you recovery, and loosen you up! Its ability to create mobilizations based on your profile is excellent and the option to pick a time that is suitable for you in any WOD is a great feature. Some improvements I would like to see is a more extensive test if possible, to better dial your strengths and weaknesses in, adding “activations” to the pre workout routines, and adding a section that explains muscle function, the area your mobilizing, and the stimulus a little better.

Good not great

So far I’m enjoying this app. I feel like between using the daily WOD and pre/post WODs my mobility is slowly improving. (Which flexibility should improve slowly). However, there is definitely room for improvement with GOWOD.

1.) The videos aren’t so much videos as they are GIFs. They do not have volume explaining movements. They don’t even change sides from left to right when doing different sides of the body. It can be very annoying at times.

2.) The “videos” are not follow along at all and GOWOD is not for you if you need follow along instructions. You have a moving GIF like picture and I stop watch feature

3.) A family plan option would be great. Multiple people in my house would love to use this app but I’m not gong to pay $10-$12 per person to do so.

Overall, I am 20+ days into it and do feel I’m improving mobility. That is the most important thing to me. We will see when I retest in 8 days

Incredibly Helpful

I am the type that follows programs well. I like structure and someone to tell me what to do. In the mobility world there are just so many videos, opinions, and of course professionals. GOWOD is the perfect balance. It does an assessment and builds a program specifically for you with assessment points every 30 days. I found that areas I thought were the weakness were not, at all. I thought my hips were the problem and this tool clearly identified my shoulders and overhead reach as issues. And after doing some of the program, man was it right. Worth every penny. I do 15 minutes every day.

Perfect daily support for my workouts

Almost a month in, I love GOWOD and what it does for me. The mobility test showed me my tight areas; the daily protocols stretch them (and other areas) and leave me feeling great; and the pre- and post-workout protocols, using a few simple tools, prepare my muscles to move and lift and help them to recover. It works if you use it, it’s easy to use, and, at $9.95 a month, it’s well priced.

Perfect mobility workout

I love using GOWOD first thing in the morning to get my blood moving. It is nice to use because you see the movement you need to do, but can play a podcast or music in the background. I have used GOWOD for a month now and saw my mobility percentage go from 68% all the way up to 83% in a short amount of time. Definitely a must for all to help restore your body to take on the day. Especially if your looking to hit new PRs in your lifts!

Mobility work Tailored to nobody else but you!

I’ve used GOWOD for 3 months now and can feel those “anti-flexibility gremlins” starting to skip town! I feel my back, shoulders, and hip tendons and muscles starting to learn how they need to function at 30years old when they never used to even as a child. I went from 35% on the monthly test to 60% in just a few weeks! Can’t wait to get to that 90%tile. :)

Excellent app for mobility.

This is a versatile app for mobility - basically, “stretching.” You can target specific problem areas or let GOWOD diagnose your needs with a simple test and suggest movements that target the areas you need to work on.

Each movement has a video to show you the prescribed method of doing each movement, but also has scaled (easier) versions of each mcimwbt with their own videos.

That’s what I was looking for.

As an aging athlete I need to work on my flexibility more than ever. GOWOD has some thing that a lot of others don’t. Giving a fitness assessment upfront allows GOWOD to tailor you’re stretching to your needs and it gives you a way to track your progress. The feature of allowing you to pick the work out that you are about to do and have a pre-and post stretch lined up for you takes out the guesswork. Very pleased.

I needed this!

I can tell already that this has helped me. I was feeling that my workout routine was missing something. I was doing a lot of lifting and it left me feeling tight in my back and shoulders. I am doing 3 days workout one day mobility now and GOWOD is perfect! I love how it assesses my strengths and weaknesses and targets what I need to work on. I also love how it has pre and post WOD mobility. The assessment confirmed I was lacking in my overhead squat so I’m excited to see what the results will be next month!

Great tool for self development

I have a background in Exercise Science so most of these movements are what I already know and preform, but the key for me is to follow a daily regiment and track progress. I read reviews stating that there isn’t much customization within GOWOD ; one user stated they can’t select a certain amount of time. I found that if you just pause the timer and work through it at your own pace (mine being a few minutes longer with certain movements) that resolved the issue easily enough. Overall great tool

Addition of Theragun is awesome!

First, I don’t use GOWOD as consistently as I should. Even though, I know it will help my mobility significantly. That aside, I really like GOWOD .

When I’m short on time, I can choose shorter routines. Periodic testing also adjusts the protocols to help me with my weak, or tight, areas as my body changes over time. That said, consistency should not be a problem for me. 😜

Recently, this app added the Theragun to the protocols as an option. This. Is. Awesome! I’ve had the Theragun since Christmas 2019 and it does help me activate muscles before workouts. Now, having it rolled into a guided pre and post workout protocol is fantastic. And, this might be the motivator that gets me using it consistently.

One wish list item - adding suggested uses of something like the Compex muscle stimulation devices would be another game changer. Great app!

App has major issues

I was excited to try GOWOD and paid for the premium hoping to replace my Mobility WOD subscription with a more robust option. After the initial use for pre and post wod, GOWOD continues to crash, there is seemingly a delay when submitting forms that generates “problem occurred” and some functionality is so finicky that you have to replace email addresses with the same values for GOWOD to work. Beyond frustrated with GOWOD and website - I hope they figure it out, quick. Otherwise I will be cancelling my subscription during the free trial and going back to MWOD, happily.

Could improve

Great concept and application. Nice setup, easy to use, lines up all the steps from a few simple choices. Wish it would actually target the exercise I did that day, which I thought was the premise. No matter what WOD I entered, I always got the same or very similar exercises and movements. I liked the timer, good ideas there, but the alert wasn’t loud enough in the gym. Need to allow changing alerts sounds on the fly for various locations. Good app, but poor execution for the monthly subscription you have to join.

Could Use Variability

While GOWOD is helpful, if you’re not a crossfitter, there is not a good variation of exercises. I find myself doing the same exercises over and over again because GOWOD only recognizes squats, bench press, deadlifts, and shoulder press from my workouts. I have noticed an improvement but due to the lack of exercises, I have not been making more improvements.

Some dangerous exercises

Good concept for an app. However, some of the stretches/mobility drills could be improved. One foam roller exercise directs you to roll out the lower back, placing harmful pressure on the lumbar region. Another is the sleeper stretch, which can cause shoulder pain/impingement in a lot of individuals. Due to some of the exercises, GOWOD can be more harmful than helpful. I would expect more for an app that costs $12 per month.

Great app

Great app with awesome new and classic mobility movements and stretches. A few things though:
1) I wish the videos were more thorough, especially with the newer and more unique movements. 2) the workout closes/ends if you’re in the middle of an exercise and the timer is going and you open another app (ie Messages, email, Facebook, etc)— please fix this as not all of can just stare at a timer for 12 minutes straight (sad, but true). Other than that, great app

Minor adjustments needed for perfection

GOWOD helps me perform at my best at CrossFit and Weightlifting. I barely feel any more pain as a result of it. That said, the English version has a few typos on some movements. I would also suggest reducing the retest time of 30 days. I find that by focusing one one area for too long, mobility elsewhere is sacrificed as a result.

Literally the reason I can lift heavy again

Worth every penny! It was amazing to see what my mobility weak points were and then to learn stretches that help to maximize my workouts based on them!! Even better, I have been able to hit maxes I haven’t hit in well over a year due to loss of mobility!! GOWOD makes stretching and personalized mobility training super accessible!!

Highly recommend

I absolutely love GOWOD!!! It has helped me with my mobility so much and they are always updating it. I have been using it for a long time and there is always something new. I highly recommend this for everyone. I love that they have a program for you before and after the workout based on what you are doing that day

Life changing

I had been working on mobility for a couple of years before finding GOWOD- this app did in one week what I couldn’t accomplish with any other mobility I was doing. I no longer have chronic shoulder pain and am seeing more range of motion than I ever have. Thank you this app.

I love this app.

I’ve never been a fan of mobility work (and it shows...). But, this app is easy to use and has great content! I’ve used it nearly everyday since downloading GOWOD and have made a 2% increase in mobility in my first month. Really happy with this product!

Excellent program

I’ve used mobility programs such as romwod which is good in its own way. However this app has not only daily mobility routines, but pre and post wod mobility which has helped my training immensely. I also like their mobility test feature which lets you evaluate your progress.

Excelent

Been using it for few months now. Great for identifying weakneses and helping to fix them. Some of us kinda semi-know what to do but it’s good to have something to guide you through a mobility session and hold you accountable for time, especially with no coach around!

Amazing App

I have been doing CrossFit for 7 years and this is the best application I have used so far. From pre and post WOD, daily stretching and for areas you want to improve per type, zone or tool. You won’t be disappointed 😉!
