The app provides a range of features such as a home screen, events, activity feed, goals, map, workout, text messaging, dashboard, actions, Apple Watch integration, and Zwifters nearby.

Great app, would love a few minor tweaks

I really love ZwiftCompanion and it is a great companion to my Apple TV Zwift app. It’s like having a hi tech remote. I especially like the new workout screen but have a couple of nit picks with it. I have a controllable trainer so I am concentrating more on cadence than power during the workouts. The cadence font is so small and nested right under the power reading that it is hard to read, especially when really working hard. Perhaps moving it to the top left of the power arc and heart rate to the top right would make it all easier to read. There is some open screen real estate In those places, especially if the power arc is just a tad smaller. Additionally, ZwiftCompanion is super power hungry. I went from 85% to 20% in 40 minutes. Not sure how to fix this considering everything it is doing, so I now plug my phone in (which requires a wire that I don’t want around my bike!) Lastly, it loses sync about once per workout and I have to close and reopen ZwiftCompanion . Again, I consider these minor but if they can be fixed, I would have no problem upping my rating to 5 stars.

Zwift is awesome but the companion app is not

Zwift is great but ZwiftCompanion needs some improvement. Right off the bat when I am using it on my iPad I notice it is not full screen. Instead it is a phone app that they were too lazy too convert into a native iPad app.

Where is the average speed? Hard to believe something so basic is missing. I know Zwift is all about power because speed is affected by your in game bike, but I still want to know. Also the map could be better. While seeing where you are in a particular course is somewhat interesting, I would really like to know the length and elevation of my ride so it would be great if there was a map mode with a ride profile showing upcoming hills, etc.

The icons in the ride need labels. I never know what these do so most of them I just don’t use. And the power ups I usually need to press twice otherwise I miss it.

Really useful app but some glitches.

I have used ZwiftCompanion for a week now and I really like it. A lot of times I will use ZwiftCompanion to run in place using my Apple Watch. The only problem I have seen is that occasionally the heart rate will not be accurate. I will stop and check my pulse it is fine. Basically what happens is that my heart rate will spike up to twice the actual heart beats. I have tried placing the watch up a little more on my arm when I run and I have also tightened it as much as I can stand and still has the same issue. I’ve heard that sometimes people have issues with the monitor working correctly but I find that the Apple software works better and doesn’t have as many glitches. I really like your app and I use it primarily when the weather is bad outside so it has been very motivational. Thanks!

Very useful especially when in conjunction with Apple TV 4K app

ZwiftCompanion is very helpful for controlling the in-game/ride actions, especially when the controlling device for the game is remote (ie Apple TV or laptop).

Comment to dev: recently I had an issue where mobile link thought I was riding in London but the Apple TV showed me riding Watopia. Wattage and distance were consistent on both, but the map functionality showed me plodding along in London. When I saved from Apple TV, it saved the ride based upon Watopia. Apple TV 4K 32GB, and iPhone 6s running iOS 11.2.

Useful but...

The concept of Zwift is powerful in training and staying fit. Would’ve been 5-star but the software itself is less than desirable.

Many usability issues. Most of the customization features and historical metrics such as achievements or PR can’t be accessed unless you start a ride. Icons/features are not explained and users are asked to consult old online documentations and 3rd party sites and forums rather than them building them into the UI properly.

Stability is also a problem. Both mobile apps have crashing problems and Bluetooth connectivity problems especially in workout mode that add plenty of frustrations to the ride.

Great on paper, poor in practice

I’ve been using Zwift for about 9 months now and was turned onto ZwiftCompanion and indoor smart trainer cycling in response to the pandemic.

Zwift itself is a really well-thought-out tool for keeping training or general fitness fun, but the apps (both companion and the main app) are plagued by bugginess, unreliability, and total functionality breakdowns pretty much every time they update.

I run a Saris smart trainer, Zwift on my iPad Pro, Companion on my iPhone 11 Pro and companion on my Apple Watch series 5 for heart rate monitoring - I think all these things have worked, without issue, one time in nine months. Usually, if the mobile apps are working, the watch won’t connect; if the watch is working, companion on my phone isn’t working. As recently as today, my workout recorded in Health, pushed to Strava, but companion seems to think I did no such workout.

As previous reviewers have stated, Zwift refers to their knowledge base and forums where you have to go spelunking for hodgepodge solutions that will break with the next update.

I like Zwift, I’d love it if it worked reliably.

Great app idea (when it works)

I love Zwift and love the idea of being to put my phone in the smartphone holder on my bike to have all my stats and be able to interact with other users and make edits to the game screen without getting up to pause on my Mac. However, ZwiftCompanion doesn’t work half the time. Sometimes my stats don’t show up at all on the screen. And, I’ve only been able to pair my Apple Watch for heart rate with it once with multiple tries which is disappointing because I have to set up a separate indoor cycling workout to get that data. If those bugs were fixed, I was give this 5 stars for sure.

Very good even without smart trainer

Wasn’t sure I wanted to invest in a “smart” trainer so I’m using a wahoo speed sensor and a wahoo cadence sensor. Writing this review to say that this works fine and is a good way to get started without spending $600on a smart trainer if you already own a trainer or need to buy a less expensive trainer. I am riding on my trainer a lot more often using this. If you like the software there is no doubt a smart trainer would enhance the experience and which type of smart trainer would depend on your pocketbook and commitment to training. I suspect many people would be happy with this with an inexpensive trainer and an iPad.

I want to love this App

Seriously...I’ve tried repeatedly to get ZwiftCompanion to work either on my laptop or phone. I’ve downloaded the companion, the desktop version and I can never get this to sync properly. Nothing is intuitive about making this run. It reads the Wahoo Cadence and Speed trackers, will even register my RPM, but I’ve only been able to move my avatar once in every attempt. I’m sure it’s just me and my ability but I’m done trying.
I would LOVE to be able to engage with this but there are just too many bugs. Too many device connections and not enough explanation. Forget about the Help function...the light is on, but no one is home.

Love Zwift but a Quick Suggestion!

Zwift is absolutely the best app for indoor cycling, racing, and training. If I could suggest an improvement to the companion app / Zwift app, it would be to allow training rides in the meet up option. For example, my buddy and I would like to do a training ride. I go in and create that training ride via the customization option, and during that meetup, both my buddy and I are both using erg mode to train the same way, but we’d be riding together!

So glad I got this

Really enjoy how this works. So different from trainers. Not boring. Lots of fun. Really motivating. My husband and I both have accounts. My bugaboos would be it would be nice if you could start anywhere on the course. And it would be great to have an option for games, somewhere where you could get points and try to beat the game by popping things on course or if it was connected to Tour de France game.

Does NOT work with Apple Watch

I tried using the zwift app on my iphone as well as the zwift app on my ipad with the companion app on my iphone and neither worked. Both apps connect to Apple Watch on the pairing screen for both running speed and heart rate but neither work. Runner just stands there bot moving and heart rate shows as “- -“. I only downloaded ZwiftCompanion because I am looking for a treadmill workout compatible with Apple Watch but this one isn’t it! I spent about 2 hours total trying to get it to work and never did, finally gave up after searching online and finding others saying it never works or if it does, only shortly then disconnects. Seems like others say it works better for cycling but definitely not running!

Apple TV issues

I have a Saris H3 controllable trainer that works fine with Apple TV without use of the companion app, but since Apple TV has only had 2 Bluetooth inputs I need the companion app if I want to use more, such as using a Sterzo steering device. When using the companion app, you lose all of the resistance changes when encountering gradient changes.. the trainer goes from smart to dumb, which is dumb. I’ve tried everything to reset everything but cannot get it to work. In short, don’t bother using the companion app with Apple TV, it just doesn’t work as it should.

Zwift’s Achilles Heel

Preface, I really enjoy Zwift and think it’s a great platform. However, the Companion App is rubbish.

My main Zwift setup is the latest generation Apple TV, iPhone 11 Pro, Apple Watch 6, Wahoo cadence sensor, and a Wahoo Kickr. I’m very familiar with using Bluetooth and what causes issues.

Since the Apple TV has limited Bluetooth connections I have to use the companion app. Using HR with the Apple Watch through the companion app works about 10% of the time. Generally in the initial connection the Apple Watch will connect, and transmit HR. When actually getting into the game the watch says pairing, and Zwift says no signal. For about a week I had ok luck if before each ride I deleted all the Zwift apps, power cycled all the devices and then reinstalled the apps.

I’ve tested just about every combination, the weak link is the companion app.

I’ve been using Zwift for 5 years now. If I was a new user going through this I doubt I’d stick with it out I’d frustration. At this point I’m hooked.

Apple watch Support is flakey

First off, I love riding in Zwift!

However, trying to pair my apple watch to Zwift through my phone while riding on my ipad is exceptionally frustrating. My watch will say its paired, but cannot read my heart rate. This comes up in the ipad screen as "connection failure". I've tried restarting all of my devices (multiple times) to no avail. I read some forums on the issue and it seems like it's pretty common.

That said, the stuff all worked a couple weeks ago, and having to worry about my gear takes me out of the ride.

Good app, but syncing with the Zwift app rarely works

Using companion app on my iPhone and the Zwift app on my iPad they almost never sync up. So, I can rarely track my progress live through the companion app during an event while Zwifting. The companion app is great as it has a lot of cool features during an event that you simply can’t do on the standard Zwift app (like five thumbs up to riders nearby), but as it rarely switches to live view correctly I can almost never use companion for anything other than post ride analysis.

Login problems

I keep getting “invalid email or password”
I know its correct as it’s worked on multiple devices and their website. I have a hard time justifying this as a monthly expense when even the login is buggy. I tried the chat function for support on their website, that isn’t working either. I tried resetting my password and the link doesn’t work. Get it together guys. Maybe I’ll update my rating when i can actually logon but for now I’m unimpressed with the functionality. I don’t usually leave reviews but I’ve never had an issue with another app with something so simple as logging in

Very fun app with many features

Love ZwiftCompanion, sometimes more than the Zwift app because it doesn’t malfunction. Adding big events like Tour de Zwift and Zwift Academy to track our events was so smart and efficient. Love the ride logs and ability to comment. Would be great to add the option to get notifications when the account holder comments on a ride log you’re interested in. Otherwise, very happy with ZwiftCompanion.

Great app but current version has a bug

The prior version worked great but there’s a bug in this current version that makes the map disappear within a few seconds, before the little circle on the map is complete the whole map will disappear, doesn’t matter if I’m running Zwift on windows or Apple TV. Other than that the Companion app is excellent.

Remote screen disappear after 2 seconds on iPad

ZwiftCompanion is a remote screen when using zwift. With the iPad os 15.1 the remote is disappearing after 2 seconds
Tried all the possibilities from reinstalling app to trying many iPads and still the same. Lots of posts on FB and zwift forums. hope zwift will do the necessary very sone. It hard to zwift without remote companion

Typically I love using this

Okay I’ve been using this with the KICKR for almost 3 weeks now. It changed my entire riding game, so thank you, BUT it fails 2 times per week without fail! All of my devices connect perfectly but since the companion app stops reading my watt, heart rate, and cadence than the whole bike component becomes useless. I like to wake up early to complete my works, like 5:45-6am early. Imagine actually being on time to your ride and it failing THREE TIMES. Trust me it’s not fun. Again, I’m a huge fan, but when things like this continuously happen it’s SUPER FRUSTRATING.

By

Poor tech support

I have been trying to get support from them for using a Apple Watch. Going on 3 weeks now. It seems like you request support and it takes several days to get a response and then they ask questions and it takes another few days. Like I said 3 weeks now and my watch still does not work with Zwift. Every other app works fine but Zwift. I am about to suspend my subscription. I thought the cable companies were bad with support but I have found someone worse than Comcast

Needs one fix

This is a great app the only thing they need to fix is when looking at events most of the time they tell how many laps but not the mileage. Same problem when signing up for an event when on zwift. Can’t tell how many miles you are going to be racing until the event actually starts.

By

A lot of Bugs

If you are using Apple TV and the Mobile Link, just recognize that there are a lot of bugs. Zwift is a great concept, but they seem to rush enhancements to the detriment of the riders. Documentation isn’t that good, and support acts like every bug reported is news to them, while there are a lot of comments about those issues and bugs on their website from users. If you can deal with all that, go for it. If you don’t want to spend most of your ride troubleshooting connections, connect via a computer instead of the sloppy TV OS and iOS apps.

By

Incredible

The Companion app is fantastic! I really enjoy being able to scroll through dates and future events or races and select them and it automatically loads in my Google calendar. If only real bike racing, training and workout training plans were this streamlined.

By

Finally a full-featured companion

For months I’ve wanted to see details about a ride or event without having to go to Strava. And even then Strava didn’t give you all the details like race position or jerseys claimed. Even zwiftpower couldn’t give you the same information. Now it has everything that all but a true data nerd could want.

Game Changer

Zwift has been an absolute game-changer for my winter fitness. I live in the cold Northeast. I’ve done more Zwift miles over the past 8 weeks than I’ve done over the past 5 winters combined. ZwiftCompanion is a great way to keep your activities and events organized and well planned. Group rides, races, crits....oh my!!!!!!

By

Ride-ons

The Zwift Companion is indispensable. I love the new easier ride-on functionality.
Some small suggestions: please make it easier to give historical ride-ons without scrolling and ZwiftCompanion crashing. Please make it easier to identify those followed who are not currently following back.
Thanks for a great app!

Totally awesome!!! A must have for any Zwift user

I have been Zwifting for two months without using ZwiftCompanion while riding. Today I used it while riding and it was so awesome!! Was able to do so much more while training and it’s so easy to use! So impressed with zwift a app quality and support!

Great, social aspect needs work

It’s annoying to have to go into a follower’s activities to get them to be notified of a response to a comment on your own activity. There should be the ability to reply to comments and send notification to the recipient. Otherwise, ZwiftCompanion is great.

Fantastic race results can be recalled in this great app

No longer the need for the hack that is ZwiftPower dot com

Bring up race results right in ZwiftCompanion for your activity.

Works flawlessly with my Apple Watch 4. Make sure all devices connected to same WiFi.
