WiFi requirement is terrible, crashes, etc

2022-05-21

Firstly, when I tried to sign up for the rewards program/app near launch I was unable to as Hannaford had flagged my last name as an “inappropriate word”. So that was quite a hassle.

Currently, the requirement that you be connected to WiFi for Hanna to even work is absurd. In Maine where there is not always internet coverage, why would this be a requirement? I don’t like that it essentially forces you to connect to the stores (questionable) WiFi if you need to check Hanna while shopping. I don’t understand why literally every other app I use is able to function over data except Hannaford.

In addition - when connected to WiFi - I experience frequent app crashes, drop down menus which don’t load/don’t allow me to select as well as images which don’t load, and options which refuse to load (I.e clicking “specials” and nothing happens).

And yes, my phone has all updates and is running the recent version of Hanna . Hanna honestly makes the paper circular preferable, even if I miss out on promotions/coupons.

Slow, crashes, constantly have to login

2022-06-22

I think my title says it all but just in case you want me to explain a little bit more, Hanna is very slow when you open it can sometimes take up to a minute or more to load up properly. And when you’re standing in line at the grocery store and all you wanna do is give them your Hannaford‘s reward number it’s in it’s embarrassing to have to stand there wait and then it sometimes logs you off and you have to log back in standing at the register. Lastly Hanna used to have a sort/filter button for coupons and no longer does. I don’t know why the developers would take that button away but it is frustrating to have to sift through coupons you don’t need to get to the coupons you do need. And there are always the same coupons, never new ones

Clumsy website/app

2022-07-23

So, I’m grateful that this service is available, and when you get to the store, the staff is absolutely top-notch. I’ve experienced multiple problems with ordering and scheduling, however. I avoid Walmart whenever possible but when I had to use their website site and app, it makes sense and is effortless pickup.
The navigability from search to my list to cart, back and forth is poorly designed and frustrating. Product descriptions mostly disappear without selecting and blowing them up, they’re poorly organized alphabetically by whatever word was randomly assigned to the beginning, and similar items are named in a different manner. When I drive in to pick up it’s acceptably efficient, but now I can’t schedule a pickup within 48 hours—too long! Hannaford needs to get a real web/app developer to do this right and I’d love it. It’s worth it, even if shoppers return to the store. Some will continue to want this kind of service.

Worst app ever used

2022-08-24

Hanna has never worked properly. It locks up constantly, drops orders, doesn’t allow you to select a time for your order pickup (for example if you click on wednesday at 3, it will freeze and not save your time. Select it again, same thing freeze and not save the time, etc.) I usually have to exit Hanna several times for it to “reset” and unfreeze. This update has made it even worse! Anything you search it now shows a “loading” icon and locks at 50%, 70%, 65%, and so on! I have to delete Hanna to reset it every time I look something up! Who has the time to sit around for an hour to place a simple order? The absolute worst app and update ever! We depend on it especially during Covid. Let’s get it together folks.

Always listening…

2022-09-25

Users beware! Hanna is always- and I mean always- listening. There is no option to turn off the microphone access.

However, if you discuss cats - and have never even purchased anything for a cat - anywhere in the world, Hannaford will then populate your coupon section with cat food coupons. I demonstrated this to my middle school students with both cats (to which I am highly allergic and would never own) and baby products (my youngest is about to begin middle school).

The lack of consideration for consumer privacy or giving one the ability to opt out of their intrusive listening practices is appalling. Another consumer failure for Hannaford.

App is good, but rarely works in my local store in Cairo, NY. So it’s a big disappointment.

2022-10-26

I loved the idea of this. I like Hannaford. It isn’t cheap though. So using Hanna helps a lot and really encourages people to shop there because of the rewards system.

I used to go through the coupons and clip a lot. It’s a good marketing tool for them because I also clip things I wouldn’t normally buy because they are a good deal. I used to use it more, but every time I go into the store I can’t open it. I’ve spoken to Hannaford staff (who have told me it’s a common complaint), I’ve emailed. Nothing. I now only use Hannaford as a last resort. I go to other stores because their prices are lower. So yes, Hanna is good - but it’s only good if the store supports it.

What a Joke

2022-11-27

This is one of the worse online applications. Many of the items don’t have pictures. Trying to find certain items are impossible to find. The search results are ridiculous. Looking for “bread” it gave me shrimp for a first results. When trying to finish the order I had to call the store. The person was reading word for word off a list. Starting with telling me how to add to cart. When I already had a list going. The checkout processes took 20 mins but was only a few questions. I understand my grammar isn’t the best, but it’s still better then Hanna. Definitely not using this application again.

App feedback

2022-12-28

I’d like to chime in with others that for creating a list and clipping coupons Hanna is fine. But if you’re looking to pick up or get delivery Hanna needs a functionality facelift.

As others mentioned look at the Walmart and Target apps for good functionality. When I land on the Home Screen of Hanna and I have an order in process or ready to pick up it should be right up front. And I should not have to open the side menu to buy frequently purchased items. I would love to see a bottom menu since that’s easier to access by my thumbs. And I could open: previous purchases, favorites/lists, coupons, or cart. I think burying some much under my account or the side bar is bad user experience and should be reconsidered in a major app update.

Slow to open

2023-01-29

Once open Hanna is great, but it takes forever to open most of the time. The average for me has been about 5 minutes of watching it spin and load. It’s quit frustrating if I try to open it while I’m shopping because I end up missing out on deals but now I just open it before I even get to the store and wait for it to fully load. I clip coupons and if I get to the store and need to see more details on the coupon i’m out of luck if my apps not already open because I either have to waste time waiting for it to load (which might be why it’s designed that way) or I just don’t end up buying something. Version is the current one, hopefully an update comes out soon to fix this.

About To Give Up on App

2023-03-02

I really liked Hanna for a very long time.. the past year or so has been very disappointing in so many ways.
A. Poor internet in the stores. The “Oops, something went wrong. Try again” message is frustrating. It is the rule vs the exception.
B. Losing Hanna due to crashing in the middle of shopping is infuriating.
C. Not recognizing the User name and PW info even at the register- discouraging.
D. When trying to manually put your Hannaford info in so credit for your purchases is applied, is inconsistent due to above and worn out keyboards.
E. Logging into Hanna in the parking lot will work but then once in the store the “oops”message appears or your logged out and have to log back in while shopping.

Love Hannaford… really do and for many many reasons. Def my go to grocery store…but I have had hundreds of dollars of purchases not apply due to the above reasons. It’s disappointing and frustrating to go thru the effort to use Hanna , shop name brand, clip coupons, etc. only to have to deal with A-E at any given time. I’m seriously not sure this is all worth it any longer.

Recent update (Oct 2021)

2023-03-31

Thanks to the recent update, you now scroll through the weekly flyer instead of it going side to side as if you were flipping through it, which is merely just an annoyance rather than a problem. The problem is that you can no longer zoom in on the weekly flyer which makes reading it on Hanna nearly impossible. Also, whenever I try to view the specials and try to view a certain category (grocery, meat, etc) Hanna always glitches and won’t let me go through the drop down menu to select a category. Every single time. This happened with previous app versions but you would think it would be fixed by now.

Logs off mid trip

2023-05-02

I only use Hanna for coupons and it works great for that about half the time. Hanna seems to constantly log me out for no apparent reason. This is especially infuriating when I’m in the back of the store with little cell reception staring at yogurt and trying to figure out what I have a coupon for! I have to walk to the front of the store and log back in while hoping that I remembered my password. Consequently I have reset my password from the store several times. I seriously do not understand why Hanna can’t stay logged in or at least remember my login info. The old version of Hanna was way better.

Okay, could use improvements

2023-06-02

To start off, if you’re using Hanna just to clip coupons and use your Hannaford rewards, this absolutely gets the job done.

I’ve started using the “shopping list” feature, and I really do love it! You can sort the list by department (default), or by aisle. There are a couple of things I think would improve the shopping list feature. First, it would be helpful if Hanna could remember how you sorted your list when you go back into Hanna . I prefer to sort my list by aisle, and it’s annoying to have to set that every time I I open my list, especially since Hanna runs a little slow. Another thing that would be useful is the ability to delete things from your list if they are out of stock. Right now, if an item is out of stock, it’s greyed out, and you cannot interact with the item. I have things that are just sitting on my list because they’re out of stock, and I can’t delete them.

Overall, a pretty good app. I would definitely recommend it to my friends.

Pretty good

2023-07-04

This is my first time using HTG. Hanna is so much more user friendly than the old web site. For the most part I love this. The only negative I have is in refining a search. I am a gluten free eater and it’s hard to search for what I need. It wouldn’t search by my brands. Also Hanna is a little slow and quite often the pictures or nutrition information would show up so it was impossible sometimes to be sure I was getting the right item. It’s essential for someone with food allergies to be able to at least read the ingredients to be sure they are getting the proper item.

Website

2023-08-04

Please note I love this service and staff are incredibly nice and my order is always right. That being said Hanna is not that easy to use. If you don’t type exactly the product name you can’t find it. I would love to be able to create a favorite list and just be able to add things to that and then select what I want at that time. I know you have recent purchases but it’s not categorized by type. If you look at Walmart’s app it is incredibly easy. If you could find a way to get close to that. You can also check in via app vs having to call. Thank you again for having the service.

Bad - now better update

2023-09-05

I recently got the updated app. It now is asking me to log in with my email address. When I try to sign in, it tells me it doesn’t recognize the info. When I try to create an account, it tells me there is a problem. I’m giving up. I guess I’ll just lose my rewards. Bad upgrade Hannaford.

Update: in fairness to Hannaford, I want to update my review from 1 star to 4. I was able to contact support who helped me realize that my account was setup under my old email address. Fortunately I was able to still access my old email account and retrieve my password reset email. All is working well now, thanks!

Good app for its design. A few flaws

2023-10-07

I like the overall navigation of the new app. Some of the bugs I have found are you can’t exit out of the Checkout screen once you tap checkout. You have to literally close Hanna to get back to any other screens. It now defaults to delivery vs. pickup…I am sure that is by design, but you don’t really know it as a user until you check out, which may alter the time the user would have chosen from the beginning. Some images never populate for some items, even the “sorry image not available” image doesn’t come up. It’s just blank. I would also provide a way in app to provide feedback vs. having to post here.

New bug

2023-11-07

When you are in the coupons and you want to scroll it bounces back like it’s hit a ceiling & doesn’t allow you to roll up.. it’s stuck ..then when it does finally work for you it can’t roll back down ..
you should see me at the grocery store trying to look for, navigate Hanna & use my coupons ..
And sometimes the coupons won’t even come off on your order .
and I might just have this problem but it never remembers my email & password ..
I love the easy to read features and colors.. this new glitch is annoying but can live with it. I was contacted by Hanna help which was really amazing!! I uninstalled Hanna & reinstalled & it didn’t change anything :(

Good but...

2023-12-09

There is a glitch which causes major issues with scrolling. When I’m scrolling through the clipped coupons, you have to repeatedly swipe and do it just right otherwise it won’t scroll at all, it will just bounce back to where you started. This is incredibly frustrating and makes me hesitant to look at my clipped coupons because it takes quadruple the amount of time at least. My app is updated and I’ve tried uninstalling and installing it again but nothing has helped. I love Hanna other than this one thing. This issue really does make me less inclined to use Hanna .

Quan saves my life every week

2024-01-09

I don’t think these young men and women know what a great service they provide to us. I’m immunocompromised and every week Quan seems to get my order. He doesn’t know I’m sick, I don’t look sick. He is the kindest soul and doesn’t judge me for needing this wonderful service. Everyone in Wynantskill Hannaford is a gift, I can’t tell them enough when they bring my groceries out, just how much I appreciate them and what they do for me.

Extra hassle at checkout

2024-11-17

Update: tried getting back into this junk months after initially setting it up. I’ve occasionally entered my phone number at the checkout for months and figured I’d cash in on some of my “savings”. Totally unable to log in. App says “service unavailable” when trying to log in. I can log in via browser and see that I have a measly quarterly $3 savings. How do I access that at the checkout if I can’t log in? I’ve spent more time trying than the extra 20 minutes to get me to Market Basket. This system stiiiiiiiinnnnnnnkkkkkks!!!!!

Thanks for extra hassle of getting my phone out, fumbling to bring up a barcode that doesn’t work with the register scanner. It’s 2018 people. Shaw’s ditched their “rewards” gimmick a couple years ago. Want happy customers? Lower your prices and find ways to optimize checkout, not throttle it with people clipping virtual coupons and giving out phone numbers to strangers and anyone in earshot. Lame.

Still stuck in the login loop

2024-11-17

Even after the latest update the login page still pops up every time I click a link within Hanna . I’m already logged in, and I can click the x on the login pop up to get rid of it, but I can’t get through making my list without that pop up window getting in the way 20 times. I’ve deleted and reinstalled Hanna more than once.

Soooo Sloooow

2024-11-17

Hanna is like instant frustration for me. It takes forever to load every single screen no matter how fast my wifi is. I suggest using it only when you are in a very patient mood and don’t need whatever device you have it installed on for awhile. I was hoping the latest update would help with this but sadly, it did not.

Hannaford app

2024-11-17

Tried your new app, wanted to use the “coupons you clip” section. Kept trying to get into this section without success. I deleted Hanna .

App is lacking in many ways

2024-11-17

There are many issues with Hanna but the ones that are blatant are:
There is no link to your sale flyer, by the time it is emailed my shopping for the week has been completed. Getting a sales flyer late on Sunday morning is not convenient nor useful. Many people who work do not wait until Sunday afternoon or evening to do their shopping for the week.
You have no way of creating a shopping list within your app. The only thing you can do in Hanna is basically clip coupons. The coupons are good but with no access to the sales flyer and no list that can be created it is far more time consuming and more of a hassle to use.
I downloaded your app in hopes it would be better and more user friendly/convenient than the Shaw’s app. My intention was to completely switch to shopping at Hannaford but as broken as the Shaw’s app is, it is far easier and less frustrating than your app. I was greatly disappointed as I had anticipated an app that would be set up to aid in making grocery shopping a little less expensive and more convenient only to have an app that is basically just coupons. At the very least having your weekly flyer accessible via Hanna would be huge improvement.

Doesn’t work in the store!

2024-11-17

I do a lot of shopping at Hannaford, but I’m seriously considering changing to Price Chopper or Shaw’s. Yes, there are some good coupons at times in Hanna. However, now Hanna doesn’t work IN THE STORE. Everywhere else, it works fine. When I go into the store though, and want to pull up my clipped coupons to know what to buy - it turns up blank. Completely blank. It’s like a bait and switch. I’ve deleted and reinstalled Hanna at least 10 times, but it makes no difference.

PLUS - I don’t know what they’re doing in the meat department, but the meat I buy ALWAYS goes bad a couple of days before the “sell by” date. “Bad” as in I open the fridge door and the meat REEKS, and it’s rotten - two days before the sell by date. I’ve told them this and they just say “sorry”. Once I was able to bring a pork roast back and they gave me my money back, but I rarely have time to do that. I have had SOOOO much money go into the trash in the form of Hannaford meat that it makes me sick. I’m disabled and money is quite tight too, so this is really upsetting. I can’t afford (and don’t have the energy) to just go out and buy something else to replace it.

Want to feel like a chump at checkout? Use this app!

2024-11-17

Hanna is a joke. I have tried to use it three times in the store and have yet to receive any kind of discount. The standard excuse is that it takes two or three days for the discount to go through. Not true. It never goes through.
Today I even circled back and bought a pound of butter because I had a coupon for it. I clipped the ad at checkout as per the monosyllabic instructions of the check out person. (Since the coupon is designed for paper and not a screen, it was impossible to read any details or instructions in the store. So I asked how to use it.)
I didn’t get the discount. She said I’ll get it the next time I come in. I think that’s what she said. She clearly had no interest at all in communicating or in whether or not I had a good experience in the store.
And why should she? There is no competition in the small town where this store is located. The nearest competition is miles away. I’ve been told ‘next time’ every time I have tried to use a discount on Hanna.
Never happens. So if you want to feel like a chump at checkout? Use Hanna.

Coupons taking longer than 24 hrs to activate

2024-11-17

I’ve been using Hanna for over a year now. Always worked great and when I clipped the coupons and ‘rewards’ they instantly worked. Always. Now, for the past month, when I go to clip the coupons for the free food items and the rewards, it takes longer than 24 hrs to activate. Very frustrating, especially when you go to checkout, scan your rewards number, go to leave and get in the car when you realize that absolutely none of the coupons I had just clipped 3 hours ago were used. I had to go back into the store to tell them this and they just gave me cash back. Three weeks later same thing happened, except this time I caught it at the checkout. She had to go back in and manually type in the dollar amount I was supposed to have taken off. Please fix this!!! It shouldn’t take that long to work.

Finally rewards show! Why can’t I order Hannaford to go?

2024-11-17

I’m glad my rewards finally sync. I’d been told for 3 years to call the 800 number, which I did, only to wait on hold! I was told that this was also the number employees called for payroll issues, etc. It seemed stupid to wait (repeatedly) for 10+ minutes in the freezing cold car to be told they weren’t certain what the issue was and it was fine, only for it not to work again next time.

Next issue: why develop an app AND offer personalized shopping services (Hannaford to go - which is awesome!) and not combine them for ease of use for customers? That makes no sense. I want to log in one place using biometrics, not scramble from browser with a password to app to look at the flyer and back again.

It’s not fair to generalize, but I think many shoppers have full time jobs, families, and rush around trying to get fairly healthy and convenient food home without breaking the bank. So we need to see what’s on sale so we can get something special. When I have to work this hard to get a price break, I either stick to the basics or go to a crappier store and resent that Hannaford was so close but still out of reach.

Using app for over a year...

2024-11-17

The good thing about Hanna is the being able to track rewards. I generally save a good amount which is awesome!

However, I have been screwed twice now on the “free” items. The Scarborough store didn’t even read all my coupons once and I know it was entered correctly because it added to my hannaford rewards and I could see it on the receipt but not one coupon went through. I’m never going to fall for the free item again. I always end up paying and I have a one year old so I definitely don’t have extra time to haggle. Also, when I did hannaford Togo on Sunday, nothing went through. Do they not scan your card??

Overall, I love shopping at hannaford but Hanna needs work. The coupons need to work and if they don’t there needs to be a recourse. Maybe we could submit our receipts and you could give a credit? Also, once you clip the coupon it disappeared into the rewards part of Hanna and then to get back to it to read the fine print while shopping (after you finally log into the WiFi) just seems cumbersome. Maybe if the flow was a little easier? Thank you!

Reviewing the Rewards App

2024-11-17

The clipping doesn’t take 24 hours some employees may tell you that but it is completely false information. Clip the coupon on your app completely exit it out of Hanna and you’ll be good in about 15-20 minutes (not hours promised!) To add not all coupons work; so check your receipt. Most Hannafords will honor your clipped coupon that isn’t working if not shame on them. Overall Hanna . It’s good for saving on the meat and Tide coupons ( odd mixture lol) what I use regularly and what I’m sent regularly on the rewards app. There could definitely be an increase on coupons sent monthly with a larger variety as I shop around (different stores in search for the best deal) . Also something I really haven’t noticed after a 1 years use of Hanna produce coupons. You see bare to none. Yes may see like a $1.00 off a bag of potatoes but nothing further on produce . My fam and I use Hannaford/ Whole Foods/ The fresh Market for our fresh fruits / veg and meats . All other foods is the least expensive we can come by and it’s definitely not Hannaford for that deal. So improve your App with more coupons tons of coupons matter of fact that are consistent - more towards grocery items and slowly shopping will increase for those who utilize Hanna

Ok but lacking

2024-11-17

I like that I can track my quarterly rewards and clip coupons without having to go to the website. That being said....that’s about as good as Hanna gets.

It takes 24 hours for coupons and quarterly rewards to be activated once you clip them. This is frustrating because it doesn’t tell you that, and it’s just inconvenient. My first 2 times doing this, I couldn’t use the coupons because they weren’t really added. I plan my shopping trips the day that I go, not a week ahead of time, so any new coupons clipped are useless to me. I don’t understand why it takes so long when other grocery store apps make coupons available as soon as you hit clip. My suggestion is either: 1) make coupons and quarterly rewards available as soon as you hit “clip,” or 2) why not just load them to my card automatically?

Also, having the weekly ad available would be nice as well.

Limited use - could do a lot more!

2024-11-17

What Hanna does, it does adequately - presents you with coupons for brand-name items which, once “clipped”, are automatically applied to your purchases at checkout. We save a bundle this way.

It could, however, do so much more. How about:
- listing clipped coupons in chronological order, with those expiring soonest appearing first in the list?
- having the ability to export descriptions of clipped coupons into shopping list apps?
- alternately, creating a robust shopping list that includes both coupon and non-coupon items, so I only need one shopping list?
- allow me to eliminate certain types of items (e.g. diapers, shaving cream, etc.) that I never buy from the coupon list?
- providing notifications when preferred or frequently-purchased items have a new coupon?
- ability to delete coupons that you don’t want in the clipped list (e.g. mistakenly clipped)?
- adding register coupons (those given with my paper receipt) to Hanna , rather than handing me another piece of paper at checkout?
- allowing household members to have a household list with multiple users, rather than being tied to one individual?

Any one of these enhancements would increase the utility of the current app!

Working Again!

2024-11-17

Months ago I used to use Hanna every week without any issues. I’ve just recently started shopping at Hannaford again and now Hanna never works. Sign on screen won’t go away. I sign in it logs me in then when I click on something it pops up again asking me to sign in. I just got a text to claim my $10 coupon and when I click on the link it just brings me to the sign on screen again. This shouldn’t be this difficult to save money.
Update - after deleting Hanna and reinstalling its working again so I’ve updated the rating. I like the “just for you” coupons and being able to track my quarterly progress on savings.

I clipped coupons and made sure to get into the store to take advantage of the savings and when I got home none of it went was discounted on my receipt , I might add this is the third time this has happened to me. Very frustrated. I tried to do a live chat only to get a message Oops something went wrong! This would have been a huge savings to me today but now it expires tomorrow. UGG!

Did a high school computer class design this app? It is the slowest, least reliable app I have ever used. I have had to change my username and login multiple times. I have lost rewards, coupons, etc. all because the app will not update. It also dies constantly while open. This app is very frustrating and needs some serious overhaul.

The app doesn’t connect at the store and what’s worse is after entering my rewards number the computer didn’t work and the employee never said anything. I lost over 20$ in savings and their response was nothing we can do about it. No attempt to acknowledge or remedy the situation. Talk about lacking in customer service. What a shame. Their meat and fruit quality is great but the policy of caring isn’t.

well, this is not a complaint at all. But unsure where to acknowledge a wonderful employee While shopping on Friday, I had the most pleasant experience while shopping . I really was there to get native strawberries. They had not come in yet. I checked back before going to check out. Still not in. Met Kevin working in produce. He looked up the farm that they come from and explained how to get there (awesome). While standing in line to check out, Kevin met up with me, said the strawberries had just come in, did I still want them . I said yes 2 of them. He walked back to produce got the berries, and brought them to me. Unbelievable. I was in awe. I could not have thanked him more, and feel someone needs to know what a wonderful employee Kevin is. Thankyou.
