Update Sept 2021: why are the media upload options still not working? No one is even asking for a polished design or anything. They’re willing to have a duct-taped together app that lets you view the forums. Still can’t upload a PDF on Zulip .

Sometimes the buttons to upload files (paperclip, iOS file system etc.) show up. Other times it only shows photo and camera access. When it did show up, it was when the reply to comment button showed up beside the text box, which only intermittently appears even if you have tapped on a comment. If you long press the comment, reply is an option, but the file attachment is only photos. I managed to get a PDF to start uploading, but the keyboard was then pushed off the screen, so I couldn’t hit enter to post it. There may be a related issue to handling landscape to portrait while composing.

We just started using this app at the company because of the threads feature. Running a self-hosted version. This solution is fantastic because it forces users to use topics so keeps messages organized. If working with remote teams who cannot respond in real time this makes a big difference. The iOS app works well too with mobile notifications and easy filtering to see either all or only new messages or only messages in a specific stream (channel) or topic ( thread). If using any paid chat solution where you pay by user, think again. This is open source, we run it on a $10/month instance with a cloud provider.

Sometime recently Zulip became broken. I have a year old iPad Pro, running the brand newest iOS; but Zulip won’t work properly anymore.

When I click to view a topic with new messages in it, I get the topic screen without any of the conversation in it. It just shows a bunch of lines, like it usually does while loading the conversation for a split second. But for me I get that screen with no content forever. I have to leave the topic, and then go back into it a second time for Zulip to load the conversation.

Additionally, if I type a message in the topic screen, it won’t show my new message to me. I have to leave the topic and re-enter the topic to see anything I typed in the topic. This is hard though, because once you leave the topic, the topic disappears from the list of unread topics.

I want to love Zulip... I really do. It looks great and my home server runs with no hiccups at all. It’s solid. However on the iOS app there is no way to enable “hit enter to send”. As I use my ipad most of the time... with a connected keyboard case... this is a MAKE OR BREAK feature. If a Dev sees this and there is an option somewhere, please reply! The other thing I’d like to see (but isn’t a deal breaker) is the ability to turn off the whole “topic” system. I don’t need a bunch of topics or the confusion to my users. We simply need one big group chat (no topics) and the ability to private message one another.

this app is the perfect app to use when communicating in a team! It is sleek and fast, and also easy to use. Furthermore, its open source nature means there are continuous improvements. It can also sync with all of your devices, and best of all, it's 100% free!

I would highly recommend this app to anyone who needs a chat application for a team. Whether your group is big or small, this app is Zulip you need!

I use the latest this app server app and there are no notifications even though all toggles are checked

My only complaint is the lack of GIF upload support on iOS

Works pretty good. It would be nice to swipe through images within the topic.

this app is great! It lets me use separate chats for each topic we need to discuss and is a great tool for collaboration. The UI is very friendly and Zulip has been incredibly useful. It’s awesome!

this app’s mobile app is a great addition to its amazing web and desktop apps, working seamlessly across all platforms. It has a nice, contemporary UI making it one of my favorites!

Definitely the best way to use this app on the phone. Solid and dependable. No push notifications yet.

Zulip has a great UI. Very easy to use has great accessibility to all. Very effective in its organization of messages. A versatile and powerful group chat.

The mobile app is still far from useable. Functional yes but needs some serious UI enhancements.

very difficult to navigate, and i say this as a 19 year old who is terminally online 24/7:

I am trying to join my server, yet whenever I try to paste in the link, The keyboard keeps gping up and down like a spring.would have been easier if your server link automaitcally gets you to the join the server via app sfter installation.

Zero stars. Every time I open Zulip it won’t display anything but a white screen.

Can’t even paste the url to start it all up. Not even started & failing. Catastrophic adoption barrier.

Messages are frequently lost and never delivered. Sometimes you can work around the former by killing Zulip and hoping it resyncs but it never does.
