App review

this app is practically standard to use as a budgeting app. Wally itself and the appearance is very outlooking. Additionally, Wally does a great job in organising things and is easy to know where things are located in Wally . Also, there are several ways to look at the transactions (pie chart, graph chart, etc). It is easy to add transactions that are very specific (time, dates category, specific place - if the person turned on the tracking location). Lastly, there are many features like including notes and pictures of the receipt.

However, there are some negative points of Wally . First of all, Wally is a bit hard to use on iPads (some of the buttons are covered but the keyboard). Second of all, the all frequently glitches and crashes when the screen moves onto the next thing, or when you try to add a transaction. Third of all, Wally is usually slow when you press the buttons. But overall, I think it was quite easy to use Wally .

At last, some suggestions for Wally /app company can be to first fix the glitching and the frequent crashes. Also, they can relocate some of the things so that Wally is easy to use on not only phones, but different types of devices like ipads. Without these points, Wally was great to use.

Full of bugs

I want to give Wally a better rating. I was very happy to see how easy it is to use and the way it is laid out. I purchased it because I had read good reviews on different websites, and after having used other expense-tracking/budgeting apps, I liked the way this one worked most. However, a little before the free week was up, I tried to contact this app via email (by the way, Wally crashes every time I click the feedback button, I had to find their email on the website) because of certain features I would like to see: adding new payment categories(looks like you can only create subcategories), creating rules to categorize future transactions, emailing receipts for automatic attachment to relevant transactions. I also addressed some issues I’m having : missing transactions, transactions appearing a day earlier than the payment took place (today I saw a duplicate transaction which only appears once in my bank statement). It’s been three days and I haven’t heard back from them, not even to confirm receipt of my inquiry. I am starting to regret having purchased Wally . It is a shame because it has great potential, but there are just too many bugs and the support team doesn’t seem to be on top of things.

Still frustrated

Update: it’s been a while since I finally got my date migrated, and I will leave me initial review below. To update though, I was NEVER contacted about being over charged for the bundle, which I have now discovered was a colossal waste of money.
The interface is attractive and the insights at times useful, but Simple things like making a recurring payment are a huge pain. Not to mention recurring payments from the legacy app didn’t all save, which while this is not the only place I track my budget it is a royal pain to realize months later that our recurring payments DISAPPEARED. Also seems like a bit of poor form requesting people write good reviews when you don’t even address the issues that people have already Contacted the company about. Still frustrated. Still needs work. Don’t pay for a bundle, and don’t expect a reply if you ever contact the company.

I purchased one of the new bundles and while it was advertised that transferring my data would be simple and done today (aug 3) nothing has happened, customer service has not responded, their phone number doesn't work, and I am getting no answers. I was over charged for my bundle and cannot get through to anyone. I am very disappointed and have already deleted Wally and will stick with the legacy version. What a waste.

Good app

I just started using Wally today and I loved it already! Wally gives you options to sort out the accounts without linking them, which is pretty for me because I like to enter my transactions manually. The transaction entry was a bit confusing because I didn’t know how to make the a negative amount as if it’s an expense. And I don’t really wish they can have a group feature for the spending accounts too. For example for credit card 1 and credit card 2, I wish they have a section called credit card so once I click on the section it will have all my credit cards laid out on I can check how much I spent on each card. It just makes more sense to me to have that sort of organized category, and it will definitely make my reconciliations easier. I’ve also tested the older version, but I’ll give this one a 5-star because of its functionality. I do agree it’s not as simple as the old one. You may need to sit down and test out the features at the beginning, but once you understand how it works, it comes pretty handy.

Nonexistent Customer Service

I purchased the Premium version of this app, looking forward to a real commitment to my budget goals. Wally has been nothing but glitchy. Many of my purchases will only selectively be loaded onto this app. Some are over a week and a half past and still have not reflected on my budget. It’s really difficult to follow a budget when your expenses are not updated accurately. I’m having to spend more time cross checking my credit card transactions and this app to make sure everything is up to date which takes probably more time than if I just manually tracked my expenses in the first place.

What really pushed me to leave the negative review was the fact that their customer service team is virtually nonexistent. I have sent multiple messages through Wally , and have even tried to reach out to customer support through the chat option on their website multiple times. I have been met with complete radio silence. I would hope that an app that has you pay for a “premium” service would at least respond to my feedback and concerns and help troubleshoot the issues that I am experiencing.

Very disappointed, would NOT recommend. I only wish I hadn’t paid for a year long commitment.

Great Idea, Minor Issues

I love Wally, it has helped me budget and bring my debts down. It crashes if I try to send feedback via the button or screenshot for auto feedback, but what I had wanted to report was that my synced bank accounts sum totals are inaccurate and there is no way of editing. Pending charges that are later reversed do not go away and cannot be deleted. If we could just continue to have them synced but gain the ability to also in app edit, (and fix the feedback abilities) it would be 5 stars. I also tried to let them know a couple months ago via website contact but did not get a response.

Frustratingly Slow

While I really want to like Wally , I find its processing frustratingly slow. While it moves quick between screens or when I press the + to add an entry, once on the page to input details about the expense it takes forever! It is slow to allow me to input the name, the decimal point is so low on the screen touching it never seems to register, and frequently the numbers disappear from the value section to input cost. Even more frustrating, is if I’m inputting a future expense/income, when I close Wally and reopen it, the inputted info with change dates to the current date and I have to go in and edit it again! Lastly, a helpful additional feature would be, showing what the account balance would be on any day. ie: if I input my upcoming bills, what is my balance after each bill. Sort of like a working amount.

DON'T GET FOOLED!

22 JULY 2018
I have been using the lite this app for an year when I found this app next I was good but then when i paid $15 i regret the next one year with this app next. THEY DONT UPDATE, TOOOO MANY BUGS, VERY SLOW!, DATA TRANFER NOT ACCURATE. Contacted 100 times to get the bugs and all the stuff fixed BUT guess what not even a signle email from them. DONT PAY Wally.

I used this app legacy almost for 12 months consistently and I really loved the nice and simple look of it then i switched to this app next which is much advance and it really has so many features which are very useful and i paid for the paid i dont regret thr purchase of early explorer since it works perfect for me.

I would be happy if u bring the "bell" sounds the time I enter an exp/income just like the old this app cool wasn't it.

The option to passcode lock Wally so i can keep my bank amount away from peoples eye

The quick expense would appear when you launch up Wally or 3D touch functionality would be great.

Maybe widget with add quick income or expense would make it quick and easy

And whenever I export data to my email it doesn't have all the entries I havd recorded most of them are missing I reported this problem several time but nothing ever happed although this app legacy had no problem at all

I hope you consider my points and make it much better like the real this app.

Could be good but only can view 4 accounts

I like a lot of what Wally could be, unfortunately I don’t understand where I can view all of the accounts I’ve added. Apparently you can only view 4 at a time. Also once you add an account, even though it doesn’t show up on your list of accounts in the dashboard, I can’t see how to delete it from the edit page (which only shows up through the add an expense feature, then you click the arrow to show all your accounts).
Would also be nice to see a total of all the money you have scattered amongst accounts and cash. Only shows total expenses for the day.
2 stars because Wally has a lot of potential and if I can’t find a better one, then I guess I’ll use this one and hope they’ll update it! Cool features are interface and the many specifics you can add to each expense (like location, hashtags, people, etc)

Unusable

First, Wally only allows users to be signed into one device at a time. Meaning if I want to use my this app account on another device, I have to sign back in when I come back to my primary device. Except when I try to sign in, Wally crashes the first time. Every sign in attempt.

That’s not to mention the complexity and clutter of the user interface. I tried using Wally because it’s one of the few apps that supports automatic transactions from linked accounts AND manual transaction entry. It would be far from my top choice because of the interface if it weren’t for those necessary features, but the single device use and app crashes mean I can’t even use it despite pushing past everything else.

For such a popular category, the average budget app experience leaves much to be desired.

Crashing and login issues

I bought this app a while ago because I really liked it. But when they started adding new features, like saving goals/budgets, and I tried to use them, this app crashed over and over rendering it unusable. I emailed the developers a couple of times over the months but it never really got fixed and I stopped using it for the better part of a year. Today I got an email about it being able to sync with bank accounts from a lot of new countries so I thought I’d give it a try again. I can’t even log in. There’s no error, it just thinks about it forever and nothing happens. Initially I loved this app, but over the past year or more it’s incredibly disappointing and barely functional. I regret the purchase for sure. Maybe they’ll sort out all the many glitches someday, but until then, it’s not a good product.

Love the improved look and functionality

My husband and I use this app to track our daily expenses and remain in budget. I love the new insights as they help me see my spending trends, and the updated interface is clean and very easy to use. There are many options to provide a lot of details on each transaction, if needed. I like the new stream look which shows each expense on that day.

One thing we miss from the old app is that it showed us at a glance how much money we had left in our budget at a glance at the top of app. You can see this in the new app, but you have to scroll to the bottom and it shows the total amount instead of the prorated weekly or daily amount.

So bugged / unusable

While the idea and layout is very promising, it is so bugged that it is unusable.
this app first of all confuses the currencies in my different accounts, even though I purchased the gold and the foreign account addon as well as the currency exchange addon , yet this app shows all transactions in the same currency which gives a completely wrong financial picture. To make things worse, it doesn’t allow me to delete some of these imported transaction to try and fix the issue manually or even select to exclude a currency sub account not to confuse this app.
Finally, my international bank uses two factor authentication, so the connection expires after few days, but then this app doesn’t allow me to enter credentials again , saying account already loaded!! Even deleting Wally and reinstalling doesn’t fix it, I have to delete the complete account and start over every 2-3 days!!

Great app, a little confusing

I don’t want to link my bank account to an app, but I still want to keep track of my account any my cash manually. This is the only good app I found that would let me do that. Lots of features, great app in general, but my only complaint would be that it wasn’t very intuitive and it often takes me a minute or two to find a function or feature I’m looking for, and even when I’ve used something before I often forget where to find stuff. So a little complicated, but if you don’t mind that, I highly recommend it, and it fits my needs perfectly. Thanks to the developers.

Cant leave feedback

Just tried the free trial this week. I was looking for something better than Mint as since they got acquired 10 years ago Wally has never improved and full of bug.

This one look promising but I cant give feedbavk via Wally . Each time I click on the button Wally crash... Also, it takes some times before Wally refresh my bank account balance or detect a new payment. It also notify me saying a new transaction appeared but when I click on Wally there is none.

It could be a very good app if those bug are fixed...which shouls not take too much trouble for the developers?!

Moderately user friendly, not very versatile, like it so far

I am looking for a simple tool to log my credit cards uses that does not link to my bank accounts. So far I found it easy to use, and possible to only add credit card accounts but nothing else. I cannot use some of the functions without adding an income account; but I figured as long as I can track my credit cards, it is fine. Wally does not let you define your own expense categories, but the categories it suggests are reasonable and meet most of my need. I have not figured out how to use the budget functions without income accounts. I’ll give it a few more weeks and see if I’ll switch to it.

Easy to use but missing key old features

I’ve been a fan of Wally since I first downloaded it and have been using it weekly, if not daily. Unfortunately, I just updated it to its latest version and one of the features I liked the most has disappeared, the one that automatically calculates your net earnings every month. It was under the category of “Spending” but I can’t find it anymore. There’s not even a place anymore where I can look at all the earnings I’ve been tracking, which is sort of pointless considering this is an app to track how much you spend and earn. Is there a way those features can be brought back? Thank you!

What do I do now???

I have been a very happy customer. This free and paid version app worked beautifully on my iPhone 7 Plus. I just upgraded to an iPhone 11, now I cannot access either version, and one contains receipts for the past year.

Query to the developer: What can I do to save and access my data and to access this newest 3.1 version? Right now when I tap it on, it just turns right off immediately. The other version says it needs updating, but no update is available, so when touching on the icon I cannot access Wally or my data, it keeps trying to update and fails to do so. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Too ambitious

Sadly Im switching from this app next to splitwise. I had used this app for 4 years and loved how simple yet useful it was. Once this app next was released, I switched over but from my experience it is unusable. Wally deletes inputs, bringing the expense to the current day without any data, it crashes often, the customer service is non-existent, it doesnt account for expenses made in foreign currencies in the stats.. and what really renders it unusable for me is that once you decide to export the data and bring it into excell the expenses that it had deleted are there, so there are a ton of duplicated ones. Some of the new features are awesome such as the account system and the different currencies, but as a whole Wally has too many bugs and I wished they had kept it simpler and actually working.

A mediocre upgrade

I used the older version of this app and appreciated it just fine. I was looking forward to the upgrade (I hoped there would be a better option for me and my partner to share Wally to keep track of expenses). The upgrade didn’t really change the experience for me except to make it feel slightly more chaotic and cluttered. The splitting the bill feature doesn’t work for me and my partner. I imagine what I’m getting by purchasing the upgrade is better than the free version, but unfortunately, perhaps because I live outside the US and can’t use all of the linked account features at this time, I’m just not incentivized to make sure to use it all the time, as it is a hassle.
