I don’t like having to sign up for an account anyway, but trying to sign up with Facebook was a nightmare. It just sent me in a constant loop from EatOkra to FB in Safari to the FB app, back to EatOkra prompting me to sign up with Facebook. Tried exiting out of EatOkra and signing in again with FB and it did the same thing. Not signing up with email just to check this out and get bombarded with spam, so I just uninstalled. Will do my own research for local POC owned eateries.

I was very excited to see that they had an app for black owned businesses. I like to go out to eat a lot especially since it’s summer now. But I feel like EatOkra doesn’t give enough options to filter. Like if I want a restaurant that is a dine in location. I can’t tell what type of restaurant it is unless I actually search the restaurant to find out more info. Sometimes when you click on something it doesn’t open. I don’t understand what some of the icons mean when there orange. There doesn’t seem to be any ratings or reviews for the restaurants for me to no if it’s worth my time. I know that EatOkra will be updated soon and I hope that it’s better because I want to support our people.

Does anybody have leads on white-owned only restaurants? Some days I really only want to eat at black owned restaurants but other days I really would like to eat at white owned restaurants. If you can help with this I’d appreciate it! In fact, please, I’d only like to hear back from blacks today, but tomorrow, if you are white, it is your day so please if you could you respond?

I saw EatOkra advertised on social media I believe and downloaded. I live in a huge food city and figured this would be great to have. Upon scrolling through some of the recommendations I’ve noticed that the addresses are wrong and some places are listed multiple times. I feel like it could use a little updating

This is an app I’ve waited for for years...not only is it relevant and needed but it really helps a community of diners, restaurant owners and workers connect in an age where you can literally get “lost in the sauce”...can’t wait for updates and international offerings (if possible)...Keep up the great work!

Thank you for creating an app where I can support local black owned businesses. This is exactly what I was looking for. The interface is sleek, easy to use and this will be helpful as I support businesses created by people who look like me. Kudos.

Was so glad to have EatOkra when we rolled out of a Common concert and were looking for Soul food. No more driving around in hope. Took only a couple of minutes to learn our first choice was closed so we drove right on to the second choice which had a kitchen open for another hour. The chicken and waffles was great and there was a great DJ to help us dance it off! Great app!! Folks, load it up so we can find each other!

I’m excited to use EatOkra! It’s hard to find local Black owned businesses to support. I hope more businesses near me come up soon. Super easy to use and I love the interface. Now we need an app for all types of Black owned businesses, not just restaurants! Really amazing.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I only wish it had a map tab so I could see where some of these restaurants are to quickly figure out what’s closest to me. Other than that, excited to keep using EatOkra

I think this is a tremendous app to help and support local black business. I am looking forward to trying out these restaurants in my local area. The only think I would recommend is possibly adding a map feature to easily determine restaurants close to you.

this app is meeting a need many of us have had-finding Black owned restaurants to support AND creating resources for them to sustain and grow. I enjoy seeing them grow, I’m proud of the work done so far, and looking forward to greater and better things. Keep it up y’all!

I have yet to order from any of the restaurants because i only just downloaded EatOkra but I was so pleased to see on the landing page a “vegan/vegetarian” filter. Right off the bat I was thrilled to have found EatOkra. Thank you to the creators for being so thoughtful and thorough.

It's about time someone wrote an app like this. Most food apps are geared towards white audiences; I'm white myself, and have longed for an app that features other ethnicities as well.

Even Chinese apps are geared toward white audiences. Did you know that there is a Chinese cooking school in San Francisco's Chinatown that teaches Chinese chefs how to cook Chinese foods to American tastes?

We LOVE EatOkra! For those of us who sometimes get confused on the best ways to support our friends and neighbors, EatOkra makes it so simple. It’s supporting local businesses... small businesses... family-owned businesses, our neighbors. All while eating some of the BEST food around! EatOkra itself is also really easy to use!

Saw an article about the couple that created EatOkra and knew I needed to download ASAP!! I’m so glad I did! I live in DC and they had so many restaurants on their app, tons I’ve been to that I didn’t even know where black owned. I highly recommend EatOkra, you may discover gems in your neighborhood you didn’t even know were there or discover your local spot is black owned!!

There are great restaurants listed on EatOkra. EatOkra is just what the doctored ordered! We’re foodies, so having a centralized location where we can patronize black owned businesses, and keep commerce flowing within our community is important. I’d like to see additional locations listed - Kafe Hub in West Palm Beach / Riviera Beach, FL is a black owned coffee shop/ small plates restaurant with FANTASTIC flatbreads and home-brewed coffees. Highly recommend if you are in the area!

Such an awesome app for trying new restaurants, especially when away from home, in places you may not be familiar with. While moving/traveling from Texas to New York, EatOkra helped us find local places to support.

I love that I can choose to support Black-owned eateries easily and conveniently!

In a world full of chain restaurants with bland food, the Eat Okra app is my go to. As an anthropologist who works in food culture, it is critical that I am able to find local, Black-owned restaurants. Not to mention that it helps me to connect with the people behind the menu, whether they be chefs, owners or the wait staff.

I appreciate EatOkra for helping me hone my craft AND eat delicious food. Solid 5 star rating!

Great app, I thought it was broken at first but just turns out theres no black restaurants around me at all 💔 Tested it by centering on Atlanta and Orlando and both pulled up results so sadly its just my area. Might do some research and add anything I can find if there is something around me. I like feature!
The interface is clear and easy to use, not glitchy or slow at all.

This is a great app! I used it to find several black-owned restaurants nearby. My favorite feature is the delivery button which redirects you right to ubereats/Grubhub/seamless or whatever delivery service the restaurant uses! Great app and easy to use! I can’t wait to use it while I travel to discover new restaurants.

Heard about EatOkra as I was traveling to Baltimore. Got me in places I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. Amazing food!!!! Always want to support black-owned businesses and love that EatOkra helps me do it easily.

Met the developer at Curlfest handing out flyers for EatOkra and I downloaded asap! No glitches so far and super convenient!

EatOkra is my ‘go to’ when we visit another city, to find great and interesting dining options. Moreover, I use it for my own city! Even though I keep my “ear to the ground”, there are always surprising finds with EatOkra. I’ve been so deeply and pleasantly surprised! #HighlyRecommended

So refreshing to see an app for the culture. As a DC transplant (born and raised in GA)... I find myself sometimes wanting southern cuisine. EatOkra def helps with that. I’ve used it a few times and will def use it more as a travel to different cities within the US.

this app is one of the most user friendly apps I have on my phone. No matter what borough I’m in, EatOkra doesn’t disappoint. Reviews are honest. Pictures capture the true essence of the dishes! Looking forward to the food truck addition! Highly recommend!

I travel quite a bit and EatOkra is one of my primary planning tools. Each time I find a new restaurant NOT on your app, I ask them to join and explain the benefits of joining.
I love being able to support the community and love how this app helps me to do that

I can’t say enough about EatOkra. Too often great black owned restaurants don’t get the attention they deserve and are often overlooked. EatOkra helps me to find those hidden gems and enables me to Intentionally support small businesses. This is a great companion to my Door Dash and Uber Ears apps and is a travelers must have!

It seems to do a good job locating black owned restaurants in my area, which isn’t a major city.
