Saying goodbye with 2021 update

Update May 2021: I am saying goodbye to this app with the latest update. It was one of my most used apps - I had a 200+ day outfit logging streak. But this recent update ruined it for me. The sideways scrolling prevents me from seeing my whole wardrobe at a glance, and the feature that tells how long it’s been since your wore a piece is gone. I used this quarterly to purge unworn items from my closet. I am switching to Stylebook and have been enjoying it so far. Sad to say goodbye.
************
This has become one of my favorite and most-used apps. It helps me make better use of the clothes I have, strategically make new purchases, and avoid impulse buys. It also makes travel packing infinitely easier. A couple suggestions: I’d like the ability to choose a different location to plan outfits with the weather for upcoming trips. More athletic/athleisure clothing choices would be nice. Also, I fear the price is too high for me to recommend it to my friends. I hope it doesn’t cease to exist for lack of users!

Bad Outfit Matching

So this was a decent app a long time ago as far as outfit matching. However, now it will only ever suggest the same types of outfits and refuses to create outfits with certain things. For example, I have regular jeans and I have jean shorts. It will match with the regular jeans in even the hottest of temperatures but it will never pair with the Jean shorts. When I try to have it create outfit combos with the shorts it will say “Are you sure this is a good match?” When it’s the exact same color and excellent fit as the full jeans. The same also happens with two similar grey shirts. The only difference is that one has black lettering and the other is plain. It absolutely will match nothing to the one with the black letters but it will constantly match to the plain. Even the lengths are the same. Normally I might chalk this one up to just the graphic… but it will also match with my one graphic band tee all the time. It’s very strange. Also it wants to pair everything with a cardigan. 100F weather and nearly every outfit that’s suggested is paired with a cardigan. Other than that it’s a great app! They just really need to tweak their outfit creating algorithm. Right now I’ve switched to using Stylebook until this app fixes this. I’m also a member of this app and I like their website stuff and information, just Cladwell algorithm is atrocious.

Limited options

I spent a day taking photos of my clothes, removing the backgrounds, and putting them into Cladwell . It helped me see trends in what I own, but the value stopped there.
You can upload accessories, but they are not put into outfits. There’s no option to add tights or leggings to go with dresses. As someone who relies a lot on scarves, statement jewelry, and various styles of tights to mix up outfits, it just didn’t work with the items I own. I was left feeling like my closet doesn’t work.
If I don’t have shoes added, I get an error message for every item saying “we can’t find any matches, are you sure this is a good fit?”. I don’t wear shoes when working from home and would prefer an option that doesn’t require including shoes into the outfit.
Finally, Cladwell has a hard time with layers and recommends wearing long sleeve shirts under closed sweaters. It also gave me random matches like wearing my gym sweatshirt with a chiffon button down. You can only have 4 items/outfit (one of the four has to be shoes). I find in the winter my outfits tend to have 5-6 pieces each.

A little disappointed

I’ve been using this app a long time. I stopped using Cladwell when they started charging. Recently, I noticed it wasn’t as expensive as it was initially so I became a member. I’m disappointed. While I enjoy the outfits I am recommended, it doesn’t seem like it’s a smart app. I log all of my outfits daily and I still get the same clothes suggested almost every day. Shouldn’t the algorithm be smarter than that? If I just said I wore this sweater today, why are you suggesting it as an outfit for tomorrow? And why suggest that I wear sandals in the winter? I also am disappointed with the filter options; there aren’t enough in my opinion. What am I paying for? It’s no different than it was when it was free. It’s actually less helpful than before. I paid for the year so I’m keeping it. But I expected more.

No outfit inspirations

This is great for someone who owns a ton of clothes they never wear. But for me who hates shopping and doesn’t own many clothes, it’s not very helpful. I have no idea what pieces I should buy to build my wardrobe and there’s no outfit ideas from clothes that I don’t own so I can build a more complete and varied wardrobe. Their app and website are very confusing to use. Also there needs to be an option for accessories like jewelry, scarves, purses and belts. I liked how it encouraged you to take picture of your outfits, took into account the weather, and showed you how many times you wore something and if you got your moneys worth out of it. I just wish it had more style and shopping guidance. Don’t know if Cladwell is useful to me without that. The billing is also confusing. And they force you to have a 12 month contract. My free trial I was supposed to get never wen through.

Expensive

I’ve used Cladwell for 2-3 years. I left a review a while ago saying that I loved Cladwell but paying $8/month was ridiculous.

And now that I think about it, Cladwell hasn’t added any new features in the several years that I’ve been using it, aside from the AI chatbot (which is useless because it can’t actually see your wardrobe). I left a review with a few suggestions that would make Cladwell better, and it was completely ignored.

I’ve paid them AT LEAST $150 for Cladwell subscription. That’s crazy. If they had an option for like, $30/year instead of $8/month, I’d consider it. I like the layout of Cladwell and being able to create outfits so easily. But paying that much for a wardrobe app? In this economy? Nope, I cancelled my subscription and deleted it.

Not happy with the newer version

It used to be easier somehow, to choose an outfit that I liked every morning. Before there were only 3 suggestions and for the most part I really liked one of the three. Now there are 25 options that make it harder to pick. I could stop looking after 3, but you know... options... they don’t simplify decisions. For whatever reason I can’t pick any of the 25 and end up picking my own outfit. I feel like I lost Cladwell that helped me think out of the box and dress better with less, and instead I’m back to picking my blah outfits and not getting as excited about my own clothes.

Also, I wish under “Style Analytics” I could click on the “unworn items” button and see what they are. I know I can see how many times I wore an item if I go to the closet and look for a specific item, but it would be nice to find them all in one place.

Please bring some of the fun back!!!

Love it but could use more…..

I love the suggestions but I wish there was a way to add more categories for purses, socks, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and to limit what the suggestions should use like for instance I don’t want my home shorts to be suggested with every outfit when I’m in the middle of winter and to be able to add more then one shirt or jacket in case I want to wear a vest with a jacket overtop. Also to add to the “Pattern” area for the clothing such as “Sparkles” and more colors to choose from such as I have an off white jacket and a rose gold metallic jacket that I have to shove to a different item. Not to mention I need way more color selection for my stuff. I have a lot of different pinks and reds that keep getting placed with each other. Would also love the ability to drag the item pictures together to see them overlapping. Also I’m not sure what the weather suggestion has to do with the suggested items. I wish it was more in tune with hey should wear this and this with the weather. If all of this was added holy cow I would name this the #1 app wardrobe app.

Used to be great, now limited and frustrating to use

I used Cladwell religiously back when it was free. There’s still no other app with the same features, so I re-downloaded it to use again. However, there have been major changes and it makes Cladwell less useful and harder to use than the original version I loved.

- the new UI is fine. It does look more modern and I like it.
- all the extra “rate your clothes” features are useless to me.
-there seems to be WAY less clothing options to choose from. I’ll have to manually upload most of my closet - one of the main reasons I loved Cladwell before is that I didn’t have to spend hours taking photos/editing my photos/uploading and tagging my photos.
- categories for custom uploads are painfully limited. There’s only 3 “style” options for jeans. this app apparently doesn’t know about mom jeans, despite them being incredibly popular for years.
- I can’t rename my own uploaded items. So all my uploads will be named “custom item” I guess? Seems like an incredibly basic feature.
- The tool to remove background from uploaded images seems to have an issue. Items are shown off-center after background removal. There’s no way to adjust the crop.

Why am I unable to change aspects of my clothes?

I’m sure I’m not alone in implementing the search feature to add new items into my closet. I always search for what is the most similar to my item and alter the fit, name, material and pattern later to better fit my actual item. However, I noticed on a LARGE portion of these items I’m unable to change the fabric, cut, neckline etc. Why is this? If my shirt isn’t made of cotton I don’t want it labeled as it is. If you’re not able to change the fabric of items provided by the search features don’t include the fabric at all. Why can’t I change the NECKLINE of my items? That’s the thing that often varies the most item to item. It’s ridiculous. Why provide all of these premade clothing options if we can’t change them to better represent OUR clothes?

Behind

Cladwell is not intuitive. I I have to consult AI help constantly for the most obvious things that they have somehow made more complicated than they need to be. The AI help assures me that is possible to rearrange individual clothing items by pressing on them and dragging them to where I want them, but Dad has never worked for me.

Overall Cladwell feels dated. The outfit idea suggestions are completely random and even if I'm manipulate the weather, they still will suggest a pair of shorts with a thick sweater when it's snowing outside or an outfit that is all winter but has a pair of summer sandals.

As far as keeping track of your closet items it is useful for that. It needs the ability to make notes under each item. Overall, The entire app is Just not where it needs to be for 2023.

Needs more features to feel more complete

I’ve been using this app for a few days and for the most part, it is what I was hoping for. I will say there’s a few features that would make it feel more user-friendly, as well as more complete.

First of all, I love that Cladwell breaks down what you wear based on color, but I think it’s a little silly that the graph is not accurately color coded (i.e. the section denoting red clothes might actually be colored tan on the graph and the section denoting navy clothes might be brown). That just feels like an oversight and makes that section feel incomplete. I’d also love to be able to see a breakdown based on brand as well since that information is captured in each item anyway.

I think the feature that would make the biggest impact and improvement would be the ability to search your closet using the information that you enter when adding items. I know that you can sort of search when creating outfits, but you should have full search capabilities from the main closet page.

Overall, Cladwell it’s fine and I will keep using it, but I hope to see improvements down the line.

My reviews keep getting deleted...

I’m a longtime this app user (I’ve had my subscription since long before the “free lifetime subscription” debacle went down) and since the big update in May 2021 I’m finally considering discontinuing use when my subscription is up. The developers have traded more functional features for stylish features (not that the previous useful design wasn’t also nice to look at) and since the big update it’s now missing a lot of useful analytics that I really enjoyed having on hand. I’m not keen on the new layout, though I am glad to see that they finally brought back item descriptions and an option for a grid view. I’m also sorry to say that I don’t find the Review Your Outfits feature to be very helpful. A lot of the suggested outfits still don’t make a lot of sense after going through the rating system many times over. A lot of users have been asking for the ability to add accessories to outfits for a long time now, but instead the developers just keep changing that which was already good and fine.

No option for feedback so a review it is

Update: back to 4 stars since they fixed both of my concerns. I went searching for a replacement app and there truly is no other that’s has the same algorithm of suggestions as this app does, only build your own looks app. Not 5 stars because it still needs improvements, I get outfit suggestions of open cardigans with no tops, no/little suggestions
for yellow clothing items, way too many running shoes + blazer options, among other things. Hope they keep improving!

I’ve been in Cladwell for THREE years and I absolutely DESPISE the new update. Sure, it looks fancy but it’s not functional. I loved being able to see my entire closet at a glance not this endless scrolling. The best feature was clicking and item and getting suggestions for outfits based on it and now that’s gone too! I really hope they bring those back because now it’s just a hassle to use.

Can finally visualize what I have & what I want!

I’ve only been using Cladwell for a few weeks but can already tell it’s a game changer for me. I live in a small apartment with small closets. Frankly, I forget what I have and usually end up wearing the same few outfits over and over.

I dedicated a weekend to go through my closet and add all my most-loved and/or staple pieces into Cladwell . The suggested outfits are great, although I usually find myself building out outfits in Cladwell . It’s just amazing to see what I own in this way, laid out with little icons that help me visualize the entire ensemble. I feel more confident grabbing a cast aside blouse or skirt and trying it out with pieces that Cladwell suggests.

Eventually, I would love to use Cladwell to build a personal style and closet that more reflects “me.” I like that the chat bot in Cladwell gives specific suggestions of stores / clothing items (ex. Madewell’s Harlow Pants instead of simply “trousers”). I wish there was more integration between the chat bot and the personal style direction quiz. I took the quiz and found out what my “direction” is, but there doesn’t seem to be a next step to help me get there. I’m trying to leverage the chat bot to help with that.

Great app, definitely worth the monthly subscription for the extra features.

Love it!

I love Cladwell, its really helped me organize my closet and allow me to see all possibilities of outfits I can create with what I have! It is an investment, I wanted to use all features so I paid for the monthly subscription. It was easy uploading actual photos of all my clothes (rather than relying on stock photos) since you can remove the background, too. However, it doesn’t recognize that a piece of clothing was recently worn - Cladwell tends to suggest clothes that I wore the day(s) before and are now dirty. Would be nice if it suggested something unworn recently.

Not quite as useful after redesign

The redesign of Cladwell certainly makes it look more sleek, but hides the functionality that made the old app so useful. The new app seems geared very heavily towards allowing this app to pick your clothing, which unfortunately includes pairing workout leggings with work blazers and sandals, because my wardrobe spans all levels of formality and function.

The analytics is largely useless in this new update. It says how many pieces you haven’t worn recently, but doesn’t highlight WHICH are your most worn or least worn pieces, or give you any way to figure out which pieces you aren’t wearing without opening each individual piece and comparing the “last worn” numbers on each article of clothing.

The most recent update did fix the redesign issue of side scrolling only, which made it very hard to find the clothing you want unless you only have 20 articles of clothing. The old way to filter clothing pieces is still missing though.

That said, it still does what it is supposed to do - provide an attractive tracking app for clothing and outfit planning. I do love the new “remove background” feature for uploading photos.

Easiest and best closet organizer / stylist

I’ve used Cladwell for almost 2 years every single day. I love the upgrades they performed this year and the features added. I have simplified my wardrobe, honed my personal style and created a sustainable capsule wardrobe. Adding, removing and placing items in storage are all incredibly easy. I use the capsules feature for traveling light (it counts my pieces and I can see outfit combos to ensure carry on only packing plus it has my “list” ready to go when I am). The algorithm is “learning” what outfits I like or don’t which makes getting dressed using Cladwell so easy! The only negative is that I have tailored my closet so well that I often pick an outfit where some of the pieces are in the laundry (not Cladwell ’s fault!). There is no comparison on the market that I found (and I tried; subscriptions are not my “thing”). I really found I used Cladwell and enjoy the metrics so I continue my membership with no reservations as I save a ton of money no longer purchasing clothes that are colors or styles that don’t fit within my wardrobe. I love my clothes now thanks to Cladwell!

My favorite app

I love Cladwell. I hardly ever write reviews. I’ve tried all of the closet apps and this app is my favorite. I love being able to see new outfit possibilities and also having the ability to store my seasonal closet items. As a recovering shopaholic it’s really helpful and eye opening for me to see my total closet cost and cost per wear. I never wake up and think “I have nothing to wear” anymore and it keeps me from buying more clothes I just don’t need. I love being able to easily create capsules for certain events, seasons, work, etc. For me this is well worth paying a very small amount monthly. The only thing I wish I could do is add accessories like hats, jewelry, and scarves to get more ideas or a visual on how something might look together with certain accessories but that’s also not necessary. It takes a little time to add all of your closet items but it’s worth the time to set it up right and that’s typical for every closet app. Absolutely the best!

The latest app update FIXED

Another update has been released that fixed my previous complaint. Cladwell works like a charm and I’m back to 5-star happiness. It took a moment to understand how to select a custom outfit. You remain in the clothing selection screen while changing clothing categories before ‘selecting (or saving) the outfit.’ OLD ISSUE HAS SINCE BEEN RESOLVED:The latest app update is nice to better consider the weather and plan outfit a few days in advance. However, editing or creating a custom outfit is a royal pain. I preferred the function of the old app. I would not renew my subscription to the current version.
