A useful, flexible and well maintained app

2019 Nov 28 update:
There were three updates in the last two weeks, SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader no longer crashes in my use case scenario and devs even rewrote the settings screen to become part of SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader instead of having it in iOS settings to apparently overcome an iOS limitation, and it no longer crashes either.
Well done. Thank you.

Newcomers - take a look at the settings screen there are a lot of tweaks you will find useful.

2019 Nov 13 original review:
Really great and useful when works, but crashes every few minutes. The application simply closes, sometimes sound disappears few second prior to that. What is good though - it remembers the last paragraph and its a matter of two taps to get it reading again - tap SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader icon and tap the book (improvement suggestion - make it one tap - resume the last book when SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader opens).
I use it on CarPlay with Waze running on the car screen and SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader running on the phone screen, maybe it will help you debug. Please fix it so that I could justify buying Pro. One more observation - when I tap settings of Button Functions, tap on one of the buttons to see the list of options and then tap Back - I’m thrown out of the settings. The settings crash out. When I open the settings again - the changes made to settings seem to have been saved.

I love this

I struggle with reading because of adhd and possible dyslexia. school is difficult because I have to re-read a page at least 5 times before I understand it. I was doing a review over an article in forensic science and could not read the article for the life of me. I was getting frustrated and thought “I wish there was an app that would read it out loud to me” sure enough I went to SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader Store, typed in ‘speech reader’ and found this. I immediately downloaded it and used it for the article I was trying to read. It read to me and a huge wave of relief came over me I wanted to cry. Reading is so hard for me and SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader just basically saved my life for college lol. Thank you for creating SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader, I appreciate it. The only down side is that I wish there were more voice options because the robotic voice gets a little annoying but I’ll take it!

I cannot believe it.

This must be the best, free text-to-speech app. I’ve used free version of Speechify for months and don’t want to pay a subscription.
Because of the additional voices in the iOS, I am now able to listen to hundreds of my books with ease. I will be able to listen on scientific articles, news, ebooks and so much more. Goodbye speechify and audible.
Kudos to the developer as well for making it free. The developer is also very responsive to the comments and reviews. This is so revolutionary! Thank you for making it free. Will check on it more if I want/need the pro version. I just don’t know all features are included in the pro version.

Poorly with Apostrophes & Voice Selection

I paid for the $5 version hoping to have more flexibility with the functions for the voices and to clear up the issue with pronouncing words with Apostrophes.

I mainly use SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader to speak pdf cases. It reads the footers, superscripts, page numbers etc. It doesn’t recognize page separations and will read the text of the downloaded information mid sentence. Which is distracting to listening to the content. I have my phone set to Siri Female and it doesn’t use it. Would love to use Ava Enhanced even. It “computerized” voice is not soft to the ear.

Overall not what I was expecting.

Update: You are very defensive in your responses. I do not need tech support. I am aware of all of your responses. I’ve changed the voices to various voices (including Alex) and they’re all robotic in nature. As described by other reviewers. I updated the rating because it does work a lot better in the car reading through the media center. I do not experience the same problems as listening directly from my phone. So these issues may be isolate to mobile use. If SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader is unable to read documents or pdfs without reach the page numbers or footnotes etc then that’s a design issue. SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader has the potential to be a huge revenue generating product. Especially if it is able to save students time.

Best App Ever

I have tried several audio readers and none have came close to the quality of your app! Their app request a large annual subscription to get access to options you need or to continue to use SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader .

By having SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader read the text, I’m able to get through them quickly and memorize them in shorter time than by me reading them.

I would like to say thank you for providing this for free and even if a person elects to purchase, the subscription is minimal and one-time! Great for college students and people who are on a strict budget.

Life Changing!

Without this program I would not be able to complete the overwhelming amount of reading that is required for my college courses. You are able to upload articles, and texts on the fly using the upload icon provided on the browser! The program uses life-like voices as well as retains the articles for later, so that I can read as I see fit without reloading. Your program has helped me survive 4 heavy reading courses so far this year. Thank you!

Magic

I’ve always used reader mode then speak screen in iOS to listen to interesting articles while working or driving, but it always crashes, switches and stays in different languages, and reads out hyperlinks and embedded messages, super annoying and disappointing it wasn't resolved in iOS 13. SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader does everything I want it to perfectly so far. No complaints just satisfied.

Nothing special

Okay, I’ve been looking for a text to speech app for a little while now, speechify while scams you with the trial, still has a better reading voice then most the other apps. The premium voices on speechify and natural reader are much better, almost sound like a person is reading to you.

Now for SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader, it’s basically the same as the other apps, except it costs money to even upload stuff in the first place ?? Literally it is the same exact thing as free speechify but it wants you to pay money, for the same thing you get from free speechify.

New Use

I had SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader for months before I found a use for it, but today I found it. And I am thrilled. I am a writer. I found out how to import a story to SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader , listen to it and I found 3 incidences of words that spell check or grammar check would not have found but were incorrect. Made my day.

Doesn’t work that well

In description says it doesn’t work with drm books I found out I have many drm books there is no way to find out what books are drm and what books are not drm this works with with one book I have all other books I have does not work all books I got have are free except for two I blame iTunes for not labeling what books drm and not drm protected other apps have same problem but I would have to pay to try them out

No User Manual found - Unable to operate from Watch

Is SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader designed to operate on the Watch independent of the iPhone? If it is, I have found no way to operate the Watch. I am using the trial version and understand that there are limitations, but I did not see a limitation that would prevent the watch from working on its own. I was only able to load articles on the iPhone app and listen to them there.
The watch app then acted as a remote whereas it would stop and start the reading of the articles. But that’s all! I found no instructions within SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader or on the developers website.

Thanks for not murdering my wallet 😭

Finally a decent app that doesn't require me to pay stupid amounts of $$ for an annual subscription just so i can listen to text at a non slow motion pace.

Updated suggestion: low priority, but the ability to add corrected pronunciations would be sweet. i.e a name spelled Xiu would be pronounced Shu?

Up and running in no time

First run experience really easy, SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader is great for listening to web articles while driving in my car.

I could see this service expanding to point where people could record their reading and get paid by people who listen. Just an idea :)

Perfect

It’s pretty much a perfect app, especially with device syncing. However the latest update, I haven’t gotten .docx exporting to work (Word won’t open it).

Also, the option to just export annotations solely I would really make SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader outclass everything else on SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader Store.

Definitely one of the best text-to-speech apps on the store

The dev has suggested I update my review, which I will happily do. After installing the latest update of SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader , I am no longer experiencing crashes. I am still using iOS 10.3.3, which might've been part of the problem.

Hats off to the developers for prompt responses to users and continual improvement of SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader .

-----
Prior review:

An excellent app when it works. It crashes frequently, however — especially after adding a new article from the "share" menu. The crashing may be related to how many items are stored in SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader .

Great app, both cheapest and best

This is a fantastic app. It both parses articles well and makes use of Apple’s existing voices. The UI is a little rough, but it’s not horrible. This is easily the best TTS app, especially when you compare the sky high prices of its competitors!

Works Better on the iPhone

Downloaded Speech Central to both iPhone and Mac, and the iPhone wins. SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader on the Mac offers only robotic voices. Albeit, the voice options have the same names in both Mac and iPhone, but on the Mac, the voices all sound like 1990s robots. Otherwise, the iPhone app works great with Google Drive, and is an excellent option for reading all my non protected PDF textbooks.

no more hassle with pdf files

SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader is amazing!
I have to read my books for school and sometimes they are in picture form. SpeechCentralAIVoiceReader is great at making files accessable

Excellent feature set

So this may not be the most polished looking of the speech to text apps but it has far more features than most.

- Customize with the double and triple tap buttons do on your headphones/earbuds. Example… I use double tap to go back 30 seconds and triple tap to highlight the paragraph. That’s super dope!

- Import directly from share

- Backwards 30 seconds button. Even on lock screen.

- Single toggle speed button.

Great ap

I love the ap and use it all the time. It would be even better if it could use the new Siri voices that sound more natural than the available ones

Closest best thing

Tried any and all free text to speech apps (bc I wont pay), and this by far is the best. Aside from the limit of only two docs per day, this is the best I’ve seen that is free.
Please don’t change a thing (unless you want to make it unlimited for free *smiles cheekily*)
