"I'm super impressed with the new speed! We often had issues using Centriq in the basement of a house, and now it works like a charm" - Bill V., Arizona
Centriq was created by a couple of homeowners who finally got fed up with wasting time and money around their home.
They said storing residential/consumer data got to be too expensive and rather than shut off the service, allow them to pay for it. I don’t know how they store their data that justifies the cost of their subscriptions starting at the beginning of 2021.
The prior three years of using Centriq were great, but $60/year for 100 items, an inventory system I will not use daily, weekly, or likely monthly is a bit steep. I don’t see grand new features either to justify the cost. Relative to Google Storage charging $24 for 100 GB of storage for a year, that is the better value and there is no way 100 items could come close to using 100 GB. I assume in the MBs, as items in the inventory would be shared among users with relationships built between user and item.
I guess in a sentence, I’m disappointed in the cost structure.
Almost awesome… But no keyword search yet.
by Snad1316
Centriq is a great way to consolidate all of your home information in one spot in an organized manner. Unfortunately, one major feature (for me) is the difference between two and five stars. While Centriq gathers a plethora of documents related to your household items such as manuals, installation instructions, etc., there is no current way to do a keyword search in any of these documents. You will still find yourself hunting through tables of contents and indexes for information like it’s the 1990s. I did submit an inquiry to customer service in the hopes that I somehow missed a setting that enables this capability. They were very responsive and confirmed that this feature is planned for the future (time unspecified) and provided a workaround via online access and using the find capabilities of the browser. While that is promising, I am surprised that this wasn’t a launch–day capability.
Not ready for primetime
by Hmcnally
It’s been almost 6 weeks since Centriq’s exposure on the premiere episode of Ask This Old House, and still 3 out of 4 of the appliances I’ve uploaded have yet to be identified at all. The Whirlpool dryer that I uploaded was partially identified, however the instruction manuals supplied are for an IKEA dishwasher.
The owners of Centriq appear to be quite responsive and are trying to set the expectations of what appears to be millions of new users, however I don’t understand why they didn’t anticipate the popularity of their service based upon its exposure on the most popular DIY TV show around.
And, oh how I wish you could actually manage your appliances on their website instead of an app. I really want to like Centriq and I sure hope gets better. Otherwise, it’s useless.
Updated review after developer response
by Jdjax2
They responded to my earlier two star review and gave me a link to update my review - but it seems to be creating a new review rather than letting me update the prior one(?). I don’t know if it’s supposed to work that way or not.
But I added a star back after their response because I like the product. But honestly the response was hokey. I stand by my original posting. For those of us who signed up originally and spent all that time setting up all our our equipment into Centriq (yes our time is money too) - it still feels like we got bamboozled. If we knew Centriq wasn’t going to be free later - we never would have gone done that road to begin with. I certainly would not have. Now it’s pay or have a crippled app….which will eventually be useless as products break and get replaced. I don’t know why the folks who run this company miss that simple point… make your money on those who sign up after the business model changed. They knew what they were getting into. Thanks
I had tried using other home inventory apps, but the only benefit to me would be realized only if something catastrophic were to happen. this app’s features give me incentive to inventory my items—especially the wonderful feature of making it easy to find instructions for all my stuff!
The most recent update claims to offer full-screen iPad support, but without supporting landscape mode, what’s the point?
Great app!
by DanKellyPhoto
Because they now charge a fee for something that was originally free I gave it four stars out of five. That being said Centriq works incredibly well for keeping track of all the users manuals, receipts, warranty information etc. for my many devices. Since I started using Centriq exclusively I no longer have to wonder where the information is to be found when I need some thing. Just recently I needed to replace an item on my dishwasher, I opened up Centriq , opened up the diagram and selected the part I needed and found the part number. What could be easier?
Best app for homeowners or anyone that owns anything
by Smart Burro
this app is by far the most valuable app I use. I am the type of person that tends to lose things. Before this app this meant that if something broke or I needed a product manual for some other reason I would spend hours (some times multiple days) just trying to find the product manual to fix something (washer/dryer, tv, power tool, etc) or figure out how to make it work how I wanted. As more and more companies started moving to digital product manuals this became somewhat easier, however, I would still have to spend time remembering where I saved the manual, then looking up videos or finding replacement parts. And then I found this app. Now all of that, and so much more, is all saved right in this app and the best part is it only takes a few seconds to add each product to this app which then automagically adds product manuals, helpful videos, links to replacement parts and much more to each product I save. It also has sections for me to keep the contact information for all of the service providers I use, notes, photos (amazing for documenting what I’ve done each time), etc. My elderly parents just built a new house and the first thing I did is set them up on this app. My dad was giddy with how easy it was and how much simpler it made caring for their new home. THANK YOU to the developers for making such an amazing tool.
Best app for keeping track of household items
by Whitney20784
I have used Centriq for the past three years. It has been a lifesaver! Centriq allows my to keep track of all my household items, everything from my major appliances to my son’s airsoft guns. The best thing about Centriq is it’s user manual library. If you’re like me you probably lost the manual long ago, and thought you’d just have to deal without it. If you upload the item’s product info, you’ll have the manual and may even have how-to videos to fix those issues that come up. Get Centriq you’ll thank me later.
A must have for anyone!
by LouF2
I love Centriq. The best feature is the recall notices. I didn’t know there was a recall for a blade on my food processor, but when I added it, it instantly showed me and where to get a new blade. Also, i love that I can scan the model number from the product, and Centriq can “read” and accurately identify it. And for insurance purposes, if there is ever a fire or theft, I have the model and serial number for claims. Finally, I love that I no longer need to keep instruction manuals. Well worth the fee to have Centriq!
I started using Centriq a few weeks ago and have been able to easily load almost anything with an on/off switch that I own into it. It’s great for keeping track of warranties and owners manuals. I had a fan that I purchased over a year ago that broke a few months back. I had no idea it had a 2 year warranty until Centriq notified me of it…I have since submitted a claim and will hopefully either get it repaired or replaced. Thanks this app!!!!!
Terrific Product and Customer Service
by Habitat Addict
A rare combination these days. I have over 70 home products and tools (mostly) in this convenient app. I just snapped a picture of the product’s ID label and 9 out of 10 times it quickly populated the listing with user manuals, links to common replacement parts ( I don’t need to look up which filter my fridge needs anymore) and useful videos. On the rare occasion it can’t find the product instantly, their customer service team springs into action to find everything within 24-48 hours! Worth the time to setup.
Best Inventory manager yet
by Zmos
Love Centriq. Take a picture of the label of your product, and voila! Kept in nice organized file cabinets. Most of the time it will populate operators manuals, accessories, and month and year of manufactured. It does have it flaws. For example, it has a “did we get it right” thumbs up or down. It doesn’t remember your answer. So I often forget it I thumbed up or down. Something I enjoy doing to help make Centriq better. Tech support is amount the best. You can message within Centriq . Much better than crappy email.
Lovely app, does what it says on the tin
by Hlprmnky
I downloaded this app a few months ago and it does what it says - taking a photo of a nameplate leads to your owner’s manual, install guide, sometimes even videos from the manufacturer about how to do things like change a tricky-to-maneuver filter or clean some part of your appliance. The thing that really won my loyalty, though, was when I got an email telling me that a blade on my Cuisinart food processor had been recalled. I would never have thought to check on that on my own, but thanks to this app I have the replacement part instead of one that might have broken apart and put metal shards in my family’s food.
Home Inventory Made Easy
by SRLMD
Before this app, I’d tried on multiple occasions to perform a home inventory. Each time I ran out of steam before it was complete. Now I have an app that I can walk around each room in my house and quickly (and completely) catalog each item. In addition, this app automatically attaches the owners manual to each item. I love being able to clear out all those file drawers full of manuals from my office!
I can’t understand why anyone would give Centriq less than five stars. Clearly something this valuable isn’t going to be FREE. I think it is well worth the expense!
This company is legitimate and service they offer keeping your items and documents, receipts and warranties all in one place is genius and is worth the price to me. Not only is it easier to put your items in but they find the manual and accessory maintenance equipment with links also! I have reached out to customer support several times and have always got timely responses. I just hope they stay available for next 50yrs, but if not they do have a way to export all your information. Thank you for providing this great service tool!
Great for organizing my home
by Ct0166
As some of the reviewers have experienced, I too had seen the “Coming Soon” icon. That is when I figured out that you have to crop and edit the nameplate photo. Once I did that the information appeared the next day. Even my 15 year plus dishwasher manual was found and listed! So crop those nameplate photos and you too will start enjoying Centriq.
The only negative I have with Centriq is the initial setup where you have to provide your home address. Call me paranoid, but that’s like leading the wolf to the hen house. Giving a would be thief an inventory of all your possessions. To remedy that I provided just a general location which worked fine.
This is the ticket
by Buddy Budderson
I saw this on ‘ask this old house’ a couple years ago as a solution to the dreaded binder full of manuals, warranties, and receipts. This keeps everything organized and accessible. I also like that I can track all the serial numbers in the event that I get rolled or have a disaster. They also monitor and alert me to product recalls that may affect the items in the house. This is really good for the folks that don’t stay up to date on the garbage disposal they installed a few years ago. Info is also frequently updated with how to guides and videos as well as affiliate links to buy accessories and replacement parts. Plus it’s free. I never do reviews of apps but this really is the ticket.
Fantastic App!
by RebeckaMB
I don’t think I’ve EVER written a review here before but Centriq deserves it! I didn’t know something like this existed. I love that I can take a photo and it figures out what the object is on its own! (So far it has a 100% accuracy rating for me!) Having the manuals right there, mean I have a bunch more space in my filing cabinet and I don’t have to scrounge around the whole internet to find my specific model’s manual! The correct replacement parts, amazing! I can take a full inventory of my home and have it in one place, in case of disaster! I sent in a suggestion, and they wrote back quickly, letting me know it was already planned for in the next update! The next suggestion I will be sending in is to be able to change the names/icons of the base categories! This doesn’t apply to me, but I imagine this would be the most incredibly helpful/game changing app if you have or manage multiple properties!
Excellent App, with a few opportunities for improvement ....
by Krotz In Virginia Again
I have thoroughly evaluated several apps to try and find the best one to manage home maintenance tasks, and this one is the best out there! There remains some opportunity for improvement, but I am very satisfied with the direction Centriq is going.
Centriq does a great job scheduling recurring tasks and reminding me to do them (replace filter, etc.). They are working on adding an overall task list, which would be helpful, as would a maintenance history. I’d also love to be able to schedule things on a specific day (e.g. first Saturday of the month).
Centriq is also very handy in that it links to owners manuals and how-to videos, which can be VERY useful. It also identifies replacement parts, though this functionality needs improvement. I never need to go to my owners manual files ... they are now all in Centriq !
Centriq is great at asset management - it is easy to track serial numbers, purchase information, and take photos. This is a great bonus in my opinion. The ability to take a picture and have this app tell you what it is is nice for some, but I won’t use it that much as I normally take note of things like model and serial numbers religiously.
Normally, this might be a three-star or four-star review, but as I said, I’ve evaluated at least six different apps like this, and none come close. this app is useful today, and I think will be invaluable in the near future!
I was disappointed that I spent time loading data into Centriq only to find there was a limit before asking for money. I my knowledge that wasn’t disclosed up front when I started using Centriq . I haven’t found any useful formation curated by Centriq . I have had to input all the useful information and pictures myself. I’m not willing to pay for an app that it just organizing my stay. I can do it myself.
