Great Minisplit HorribleApp

I think the title says it all. Clumsy two-step login interface, if you have proper network security 1st login will always fail and only the you can (manually) login to Out-of-home which really should be the default.

App stops working at random intervals on iPhone & iPad, resetting is not enough, have to completely delete app and reinstall, add each adapter etc, real pain.

Having choice I would not go this route again, rather insisting on interface to regular WiFi thermostat. At least Nest and Honeywell (and likely any other but I’ve used these two) offer miles better app and user experience.

Doesn’t work

Don’t waste your time trying to get DaikinCom to work. I even called the phone number related to DaikinCom and the first thing they try to do is keep you on the line to sell you some promotion. When I hit the zero button it took me to some other bogus phone number that also tried to sell me some thing. DaikinCom did work for two years and then all the sudden it quit working and I just spent the last two hours trying to get it to work again. I like the unit but DaikinCom Daikin comfort control does not work.

Called support…

Their response to DaikinCom no longer functioning as it used to (basic management of my wall units while on my network) was “just go to ‘out of home’”, and “DaikinCom was enhanced to support users who are away from home”. DaikinCom already did this, so after 5 years without an update to an already poorly built app, Daikin apparently has released a new version that takes away 90% of its usefulness. Not to mention there is no way to reset password for the Out of Home feature, so it’s 100% useless for me, and I can only manage my 12 indoor units using the remote in each room. I guess when you have customers who’ve already sunk thousands into equipment and permanent installation, there really isn’t an incentive to provide useful technology to manage it. Only hope anyone researching home HVAC systems will read this and make an informed decision.

How is this not a scam?

So you pay extra to have wifi but you don’t actually have wifi. I recently bought my unit and the unit itself is fantastic. Incredibly quiet, heats well, no complaints. But one of the selling points was the ability to control it via wifi as I’m away a lot. But DaikinCom does not work, as all the other reviews have pointed out. Honestly wondering how this isn’t fraud on the company's part. I’d now recommend to everyone that if wifi is an important feature of your unit, you need to purchase a different system.

Update: finally got it to work. I had a special character in my password, $, which DaikinCom accepted when I set up but then got the dreaded ‘password incorrect’ even though I knew it was correct. Tried it without it and now it works. Hopefully this works for others

Nearly Useless

I have two Nest thermostats, a Bryant thermostat for a heat pump, and a variety of different home automation including a dozen Insta Jan and several Nest products. So I am no stranger to how these products ought to work and I’m comfortable programming them. This one baffles me. I can’t tell what temperature the room is, when the unit is heating and when it is not, or how to set a reliable heating mode. The unit seems to be on constantly even though the temperature in the room is very warm. The manual is very brief and completely unhelpful. The remote is far easier to use than DaikinCom and seems to have all the functionality one would want. I feel like I wasted my money on remote access. I can currently only use DaikinCom when I am on the same Wi-Fi. When I try to set up the “out of home” account, it indicates that my user ID is in use and no matter what user IDs I come up with.

Does not connect

Despite the horrific reviews, I still decided to give Daikin Wi-Fi adapter a shot. It turns out to be a huge waste of money and time, and worst of all, no one seems to be able to help!

First there are literally dozens of “DAIKIN” apps on App Store. I am in the U.S. so I am supposed to use this one? Extremely confusing and user unfriendly.

Then I tried to set up my BRP069B41 with my Emuras. However, although physically connected, I simply cannot make my Emura show up in DaikinCom !

The 2 ways offered from DaikinCom both failed relentlessly and repeatedly. to connect, both failed: 1) Using AP, my iPhone can connect to it's AP wifi no problem, but then DaikinCom says smartphone failed to connect to a adapter. WHY??? 2) Using WPS setup, it successfully connected to my router (and it shows up in my router's device list) and the RUN led has turned solid. The DaikinCom then says no units found. WHY???

DAIKIN is literally destroying its own brand if such basic stuff can’t be fixed and I won’t hesitate a little to spread the words.

Useless app

Does not actually control our units, units fall off DaikinCom , and if you are needing to reset a password- there is NO “forgot password” option to reset it- so we cannot even use the away from home feature. We have a large system of a few ductless and 2 mini splits in our 4300 sqft home and was very expensive and expected better quality than this. So many issues and DaikinCom to run them by phone is only one of my complaints.

The app doesn’t work

DaikinCom was awkward and clunky in it’s earlier version but at least it worked. I could see my units and operate them but it always thought I was “out of the house” even though I was standing right next them. There isn’t a way to tell DaikinCom your on the same wifi network as the units.

The new update doesn’t work. None of my units are showing and I can’t get them to reload. So now I can’t do anything in DaikinCom .

Lastly there is NO app support! If you click the link it goes to an empty web page

New update ruined a functional app

I was actually pleased with using the old app to control my units. Now with the update I can no longer use the “in home” mode. This is very frustrating. Turning the units on and off etc requires a slow login and every action preformed once I log into “out of home” takes 10x the amount of time it used to take when I was able to just use it in home normally. Why update to break the in home features and make DaikinCom more cumbersome and harder to use? Please at least just revert to the old one. There was no improvement and the update made it much harder to use

Dumpster fire

DaikinCom is so awful that it should be criminal. It doesn’t function at all half the time, and when it does, you have to login “out of home,” and send the control signals through Daikin’s cloud service because DaikinCom doesn’t function locally. The auto login function doesn’t work, making it even more frustrating. I have had to reinitialize DaikinCom multiple times per month for it to work at all. It silently fails. It fails loudly. It fails in every way possible.

The good news is that the Wi-Fi dongles that make Daikin units available on your network can be interacted with directly with a straightforward API. There are tools out there, including open source ones, that let you control your system reliably. But it’s not easy to set up and you have to be pretty technical. It’s a disgrace that Daikin thinks that DaikinCom offers an acceptable customer experience. Shame on you, Daikin.

Unsupported App

We use a hotspot to operate security, lighting & HVACs @ remote lake house 200 miles away. Bought 2.5 ton Daikin split w/ Wi-Fi & installed July 2019. Unit works awesome except in very cold weather w/ high humidity heat pump freezes even w/ pan heater. Overall A for system. Split is easy to control w/ remote when onsite, but App has been horrible. Same place have Ecobee tstat on 5ton HVAC and their App works flawlessly. Daikin is constantly losing connection and goes weeks not working. It’s 15’ from router. So frustrated- could be good system. Worked ok last 6 months, now app updated and it’s back off

Not working on iOS

After the update I have not been able to connect to my system via DaikinCom . I called and they commented that they don’t work directly with customers. I called my installer and they were not able to get it working. Apparently DaikinCom is not working for iOS is what Daikin told the installation Tech. What horrible service and no time line to get it fixed. How do you release such garbage. At least the old App worked. Very disappointed…. I bought this unit for a feature that no longer functions as advertised.

Original App was very buggy. New update Worse!

I have been using the Comfort Control app for my split system for 2 years for remote control of the units. It worked decent for the first few months but then my units seemed to randomly disconnect (I have 3) and so I logged in to each unit to re-add them. Sort of a hassle but not a major deal.

Fast forward to v 2.0 which was released several years after v 1.0 and now the units cannot be found nor controlled at all!

I called customer support for Daikin and the rep told me that everyone was having issues with the new update and that there was nothing that he could do. I asked for the support team that works on DaikinCom and there is NO support team that works on DaikinCom.

Daikin!!!!! Please listen to the people and get DaikinCom fixed or at least create another solution for remote control of the units. It’s 2022!!!!

Broken after first update in years

We have been using DaikinCom for years to control our mini split system on our local network. The lack of updates or enhancements never bothered me but the recent update to version 2.0 has rendered it useless. DaikinCom can see all 4 units in the home but cannot control any of them through the local network after the update. I now need to log into the server and access the units like I am away from home. This process is significantly slower and a huge step back in functionality.

Almost Useless

Had I known this was DaikinCom needed to control our Daikin mini-splits, I would have searched for another brand. If you want to set up a schedule, you are forced to include Sunday because you can't uncheck it. A basic programming error that has apparently been around for years because DaikinCom has never been updated.

Oh, you want vacation mode? Yeah, you'd think that would let you, say, set a different temperature, wouldn't you? Nope. It just shuts all your units off. Stupid.

DaikinCom was obviously the bare minimum the company had to do to say the had an app. If their hardware was as bad as their app, they'd be out of business. Someone needs fired over this embarrassment.

Needs work

The basic functionality is there but this climate control app is inferior to ones offered by Honeywell. Aside from the irritation that Daikin and other ductless heat pump manufacturers use proprietary rather than open technology, DaikinCom fails to respond consistently. For example, despite selecting the auto login option, a user must logout and login in every time the user wants to use DaikinCom in "Not at Home" mode. This mode is the most important for users who need to turn units off and on or adjust temperatures remotely. Maybe Daikin should hire some software engineers or app developers. There's more to DHP systems than producing reliable units.

It is what it is.

DaikinCom works reliably for me, but as others have noted is missing settings that the Emura heads have. These aren’t a big deal for me; I’m not going to use a remote control like some kind of 20th century caveman. Settings also do not sync with the remotes. I have a large ducted unit connected to the same heat pump as the emuras, that uses a different Wi-Fi adapter and a different app. If you mostly run a schedule this again isn’t a huge deal. If you have a big, old house with no ducts, the daikin system is still the best game in town, but software is not their core competency. There is a community developed smartthings adapter that seems to work well, though I haven’t done anything fancy with it.

2022 update: the SmartThings interface still works, it’s unauthenticated and using port 80 on the local address, so it’s unclear why they disabled local control in DaikinCom because it’s still available on the units. Wouldn’t be hard to write a new app; I’m working on SmartThings rules automating switching between my nest controlled furnace and the heat pump based on available solar input and outside temp.

Functional but limited features

It works, but lacks features available on my Emura wall units. Specifically comfort mode and outside unit quiet mode.

DAIKIN - Please add options for comfort mode to allow the intelligent eye to function as intended. Currently I’m only able to enable this feature from the IR handheld units that came with my system.

When I change settings via DaikinCom - my IR handheld controller LCD’s no longer displays the current settings.

DAIKIN - Please offer two-way handheld units that always display the current settings of its paired unit/system as an add-on upgrade.

DaikinCom does show outside temperatures which is great! Although - the internal temp is read from the air intake of the unit, so it fluctuates a bit more than I would like. It really would benefit from a more accurate temperature reading via room averaging or even an external thermostat that could be placed strategically in your room.

That said, DaikinCom is very functional for all the basic settings and allows remote control even when I’m at the office.

Continues to work just fine

I see many reviews that say nasty things about different stuff, I normally think that they want the moon! DaikinCom works fairly well. I wish I could be a little easier, but honestly it does the job. After 4 years of working I really don’t have anything bad to say about it.
Thanks

Gary is the BEST!

Ureka!! Finally found a tech that walked me through set-up. Gary was awesome! He go us all good to go. We figured out that we needed to connect through 2.4g Not out 5g and we were trying to connect with Net gear which I think has probably 5g or something that wasn’t compatible to our adaptors. Gary helped us through many calls to daikin and we did it. One major clue is dont finalize password until all units are on your app Everything is working the way it should. Patience is key!
