Nothing but constant problems

I love the concept. But we spent a fortune on this in our home and we have AV guys visiting our house and making remote updates no less than once a month. Last software update caused us to not be able to turn our lights off in our entire home for the last 3 days.

We had Control4 in our last home but we were sold on the idea that this app was a better product and sleeker. I like the this app app more than control4. But we’ve had way more issues with this app than control4.

If they could figure out the bugs it has potential. But If I had to do it all ever again I’d pick something different and I’d never recommend this app to anyone else.

Savant is a piece of garbage Destroyed my home

I got a top-of-the-line this app system, and nothing works. They’ve been working on it for months. Savon has not even been helpful to the vendor.

My lights don’t work correctly. My LEDs don’t work correctly, it doesn’t integrate with my LG solar system or the batteries, doesn't integrate to my air-conditioning system, does an integrate to my pool, doesn’t integrate with ADT SECURITY, doesn’t integrate with my garage doors, doesn’t integrate with the gates to my courtyard, doesn’t integrate with my cameras very well, I have to use a third-party app on my phone without a desktop version, if I want to rewind the cameras. It’s so stupid. Integration with a keypad on the wall don’t work correctly. Note: All of my equipment is 2022 and 2023. Nothing is older equipment. Setting up the scenes is nearly impossible.

this app also has the single worst user interface I have ever seen. Its like 1990’s DOS. It’s confusing and clumsy they make the text small so it’s difficult for your finger to move anything and slide it. Even playing music, and trying to find the volume is next to impossible.

Nothing at all with this app is simple!

They’ve been working on it for months and will continue to work on it for months and I doubt they’ll ever get it working. Meanwhile, I’m hundreds of thousands of dollars in to this.

Stay away from this app. It is a piece of junk.

Shockingly Bad Technology Relative to Price

We have had this app system installed and have been painfully using for three years. It has a huge price tag before calling the local AV company to come out and reprogram/troubleshoot every other month. It is shocking they still sell this platform. There is ALWAYS some component which never work or is insanely incompetent. If Apple product IP and functionality is the gold standard 10, this app is a 1.5. It’s clunky unreliable, expensive, and embarrassing low end technology behind the massive sticker price. Do not allow your AV company to sell you this. You will be having them out to your house every other month to fix some deficiency. I have no clue why Apple or Google have not entered this comprehensive home operations platform space. It literally shocks me that this negligent this app product is still selling this garbage platform. Am thinking about just uninstalling all together and dropping in the dump. Absolutely horrible experience using this app, in every capacity. Run!

Not a consumer focused company

When the elaborate systems that enable this app to work are set up well it’s the best home automation solution available.
That said, the company displays zero interest in their end consumers. Here we are with ios14 launched and a completely broken app. No effort was made on the part of this app to inform customers where they were in the process of fixing compatibility during beta. No this app betas were available. Even now that Savant is broken for everyone who upgrades there hasn’t been a peep.
The company doesn’t want to communicate with you as a customer, and doesn’t even have a way for you to communicate to them. The integrators we used are wonderful but they too have endless frustrations about the way this app is run.
I really want to love this product but the company needs a major overhaul. They can start by responding to this review if they want.

Needs some Siri love or HomeKit.

It works fine but there is no support for Siri or automations. It would be nice to integrate it with some other features like our HomePod or some random other automation devices Philips hue, Wemo outdoor outlets, other HomeKit stuff) we have.
It is nice to be able to control the things it can control and it does a good job of it. However, other connected devices do not communicate. Alexa works alright but it only sees devices and preset rooms. It does not see scenes we have set up.
Music control is terrible And has only the most simplistic controls of sources. Sonos is supported in a simple manner, but is pretty bad compared to the Sonos app.
It is reliable but it would be nice to have it remember where it was every time I go back to Savant instead of navigating through my room
List every time. Scenes are good for morning and evening or a party but not for much else. That takes me back to moving through the virtual house.

I really want to like it, but it’s deficient!

I love the idea of what this app can do, however, it is just so deficient as an app that’s supposed to be high technology for your home. When doing scenes I can’t set any timers as to when to stop it, which leaves you with a playlist playing all day long unless you get into Savant turn it off. This is just an example, but it limits how you can use Savant sooo much it is impressive. I am pretty young, which means it would seem it is easy for me to use Savant , but it is actually a total struggle for me to try and understand and search what I want to do just to find out simple things are not available to do.

Needs work

Overall, Savant works and does what it’s supposed to do. There are a lot of strange design ideas though. Seems like form over function. One screen you’ll need to tap a button at the bottom, and the next screen that comes up, you need to tap a button at the top. It’s not very ergonomic. There’s also a ton of wasted empty space and way too much scrolling required. The home screen is largely empty, requiring a lot of scrolling through the bottom menu bar. The rooms and scenes lists are unnecessarily big, and also require too much scrolling. At least add some options to make these lists more compact. The emphasis on room and scene pictures isn’t very useful. The whole interface could really be “tightened” up to make it easier to use. Also, why is there still no gate icon?

Easy and simple. It missing one thing.

Integrator here. I have a this app system at home and I install 20+ large systems a year. Savant is extremely easy to use and looks great. The only constant thing I’m asked for is the ability to customize the service icons. If that could happen, it would be amazing. I’m assuming it would be just dropping some sort of png in the icon folder, but can’t find that folder anywhere in the SAM folders or host. So it must not be simple…yet.

Needs iTunes support and better security camera playback

Paid a fortune for this can spend 15-20 minutes to try and get airplay to work over my custom home speakers. Sometimes I just give up and use my really old Beats by Dr Dre speaker.... did I mention I paid a small fortune for this app the home sound system cameras and electronic blinds? This was planned as part of the construction. When it works it’s nice just can’t play the music too loud or it cuts out....Trying to use my cameras is awful. You would do better with the cameras and security system from Costco. I wish I went with a different company

Harsh critics need to chill

As a former CTO I understand technology well. Being an integration system is not an easy task. Updates in third party systems can break things. this app for the most part operates very very well given the challenges. Many people rate Savant based on these integration glitches, which is not fair and IMHO doesn’t apply to Savant . As for Savant it’s exceptional ; we used to have crestron and my family couldn’t use it properly. This UI and app is family friendly yet powerful. Clean, modern and sophisticated. Bravo.

Gives me the flexibility I want.

I love Savant, as does my family. I think the thing I love about Savant most is that it allows me to make changes to my system without having to call my installer. I can save lighting scenes, add and delete users and dictate what they can see. We have guests over all the time and I can give them access to only the needed parts of my house. I can even change a button on my keypad to do what I want, again without having to pay someone to do it.

Love the app and system

Personally I find Savant easy to use and you arent timid to any modern technology, gives me the ability to make scenes without the need to call someone out if i change my mind, the user interface is very straight forward and the audio streaming is amazing… the only big flaws i find to this system is the need for licenses to do lighting and the this app lighting is fairly unreliable in the home but besides that everything else in the eco system is fairly robust

Refined and fast

It took me over 2 years to choose between Control 4, Crestron Home & this app. I had a strong preference to the this app user interface over the others, but I read reviews that scared me. After tons of research and now living with it for 3 months, I can say this is an incredibly functional and reliable system and is very sleek. Load times are milliseconds. One feature I wish they would enable is after I select a scene, say “watch movie” would be jumping to the device control page. I still have to navigate through all the button presses to start the movie. It kind of nullifies the scene command. Yes it dims the lights and closes the shades, but that’s just two buttons away in the device controls.
There’s also only time based scene control. It sure would be nice to have weather or system feedback conditions. I.e. if I’m watching TV outside and it’s past sunset, set patio lights to x%. If the weather drops below 60 degrees, turn on the patio heaters etc. Your only option now is to set those lights on at sunset by day of week, whether you’re outside or not. Just a bit more intelligence would be icing on the cake.

An Unbiased View

Being in the industry for in excess of 25 years, this is the most comprehensive application pulling all of the various subsystems together. It was groundbreaking at its release and has developed into the best real ecosystem for clients that have sophisticated homes, but want simple control from a single app without all the confusing passwords, app updates and ability to share and revoke access for friends and family. Nothing really is close to the amount of effort and development and long term support from this product and company.

Tremendous Control App

The this app Pro App is the perfect mix between design & function. The GUI is very high design with the ability to personalize it by adding images of your own home and the rooms you will be controlling. You can use it to control your home the way you want. Meaning you can choose the room you’d like to control, then the device or choose the device and then the room. Each device page has all your needed controls. Savant looks and behaves the same whether I’m using my Pro Remote, this app Touch panel, my IPhone, or my IPad. Love it!

Most elegant UI by far

this app UI is gorgeous! Intuitive and aesthetically pleasing, this app App stands above the rest for Smart Home control. I wish I didn’t require an “Integrator” when adding devices to my home, but also recognize that the experience I have is not off-the-shelf as it is professionally installed. However, being able to create and modify my own scenes - with existing devices - has far exceeded my expectations of home control… once my Integrator has left, everything I need is built right into Savant !

I do have a few concerns that I’m working through with Integrator, but since this rating is on Savant itself, I’m keeping that separate from this 5-star!

Savant Home control and automation

In 2016 we built a new home and decided to go with this app for the home automation. We were extremely pleased with the very friendly user interface and controls. Over the next several years, we’ve renovated and built new homes and we had this app for all of them. this app has progressed to add shades which are whisper quiet!! The new handheld remote control is the best I’ve ever used, probably why it was named remote of the year. If you’re ever considering a home automation system, make sure to do a demo at a this app dealer. Or even better, visit a home that has the system and see for yourself! None of the other system even come close.

Functionality

Also, the bill of goods with the system, all I want to be able to do is use my television sets. I bought two art televisions a use in my house, and I am not able to use them because of this app. Maneuvering between Cox and Apple is beyond difficult, as there are so many different streaming channels some operate on Apple some operate on normal Cox cable TV. The system is undependable and I need the help of our admin person weekly to do simple tasks that should be able to be done by the end-user. Not happy at all with the system plan on tossing it starting over with something new this is expensive and dependable and reliable need I say more. Please publish this wherever I plan on it.

I have have nothing but problems with my Savant system

I couldn’t be more disappointed with a product than my this app system. The only thing it does consistently well is control the volume to my Bluesound player that drives my main high end speaker system. Other than that the only thing I would use it for is to play Tidal integrated into the system throughout other speakers in the house but that almost never, ever works. The local dealer, installer won’t ever return my calls or emails for a year now. Well, he did once and said he would get back to me but that hasn’t happened.
Given this experience, I would not recommend this system and will research other systems to replace it.

The most Apple home control App

This is a fantastic App for home control that really takes advantage of iOS gestures, Apple graphics and processing power. There is customized version for iPad OS which takes nice advantage of the larger screens and support for Apple watch. You can take photos of your home and even photos of your lighting fixtures as well and tap to control.

The scenes feature also lets you customize your home without having to call your service provider each time you want to change your lighting schedule or setup a new home or away mode.

Very happy with the this app App and their other products which run our home.
