Love this!

after years of having Ooma as my main phone line, I love that now I can finally get calls on my cell phone. I live in Australia but have a US phone number and it makes it so easy for me to contact friends and family overseas for very little cost. I appreciate not having to be home to call the states. It has really added a new element to the convenience to it. OomaHomePhone probably isn't very helpful if you don't have a paid in my account however, in my case I do.

I am having 2 issues though, I live in Australia but I have a US phone number through Ooma and even though I put my phone on do not disturb when I go to sleep at night the Ooma calls still come through loud and clear waking me up at night, need to figure out a way to change those settings.

The other thing that is problematic, when I’m on my cell phone app and I arrive home, call disconnects. So that’s a bit of a bummer sometimes, but overall I love that I can call with Emma from my cell phone now! especially for our situation. For most people though I don’t know how useful it would be.

Over 10 years

I have been a customer for over 10 years and now I am having thoughts of dropping my service. OomaHomePhone has fallen short of being useful anymore. It errors constantly, doesn’t forward many calls and if you decide to reinstall it forces you to sign up for their premier service without any ability to bypass and just log into your account.
Customer service has been useless and they send me to their technical service, but you cannot understand them and all they want you to do is reinstall again.
I believe that the forcing you to sign up for the premier service each time you install is a violation of some type of law and I plan on writing letters to several organizations so that future customers are not dinged with their horrible tactics.
OomaHomePhone has not even been updated decently for a long time. They just fixed it enough to work on the current iOS, but no fixing the large bugs that are in OomaHomePhone . Being a VOIP they could offer texting, but they refuse to add it in.
So even though it has saved me lots of money over a standard phone line, I am going to use other portable numbers more often and maybe just quit using this service.

Latest Ooma app update is great

All complaints that I previously had about Ooma's iOS app have now been beautifully addressed with the July 31, 2017 update. OomaHomePhone has been optimized for iPad, all aspects of it function perfectly, and several new features have even been added. This is now a truly great app to use. Thank you Ooma.

(My former comments about issues now resolved: "I have only had experience with the Ooma app on iPad Pro 9.7 and iOS 10, so it may work better on an iPhone, or on an older version of iOS - but, OomaHomePhone is in need of an update. The volume control does not work, the mute control does not work, and OomaHomePhone 's display orientation is only correct when holding an iPad in portrait view. When holding iPad horizontally, in landscape view, Ooma's app remains oriented in the other position. There are a few other quirky things about OomaHomePhone I don't like as well, but if Ooma were to fix these problems, I would consider their app to be good. Until then, at least for iPad and iOS 10, I can only say OomaHomePhone is useable, but difficult.")

Good, but still interrupts audio in silent mode

Call quality is generally good, but some WiFi networks in public places will not support VoIP.
The biggest con I have found is that OomaHomePhone will mute the audio even when you have the phone in “silent mode” (flipped the switch on the side of the phone). I record streaming audio through the earphone jack, and even though I have notifications disabled for OomaHomePhone , and the silent switch ON, OomaHomePhone will still MUTE the audio while a call would be ringing, ruining my recording. It also bugs me about notifications being turned off, every time I open OomaHomePhone .
When an incoming call is received in silent mode, OomaHomePhone should only VIBRATE the phone, NOT MUTE THE AUDIO! Please fix this!

Also, even after the cutoff date for Caller ID verification, I am still receiving 3-ring calls from fraudsters! OOMA should have fixed this by now, and appears to be in violation of the new FCC standards in NOT blocking all spam/fraud calls.

Very Pleased

I happened to see OomaHomePhone listed on the Ooma site and d/led it. I love my Ooma Telo with handset but I have been unable to get rid of the horrible lag to use the phone to talk or even to listen to garbled messages. I have spent time with Ooma support to try and resolve issues but their suggestions haven’t eliminated the garbled mess.

I have kept Ooma because I can use either of the two phone numbers for online sign ups so my cell phone does not constantly ring with spam all day. I keep my Ooma Telo on “Do Not Disturb” so it can only receive voicemails if someone leaves one and doesn’t ring constantly during the day.

The cell phone app can be set up to either receive or send out calls or can be set for both. I tried calling a few numbers and found the clarity of using OomaHomePhone on my cell phone is all that I wished my Telo handset could have been all these years.I am very happy to use OomaHomePhone since it is finally helping to give me my “monies” worth to “USE” Ooma. Great job!!!!

Decent backup phone service

Disclaimer: ooma nation asked that I post a review (they didn’t specify good or bad) in order to earn rewards.

That said I have owned an ooma device for 5 years and it has saved me a lot of money (actually over $2000) compared to what I was spending with Comcast for a bundle with a landline.

They have been a reliable service throughout the years. If I could do it again I would by the ooma Yelp that has wireless built in instead of needing to be tied to the router.

Home service ok, app unusable

I signed up for Ooma mainly for the ability to make international calls at a great rate. My spouse is out of the country, and we rely on phone service to keep in touch, both when I am at home and through an app when I am out and about. After ordering the service I set up my account and began using OomaHomePhone right away. It connected quickly, and sound quality was amazing. Within a few days OomaHomePhone service deteriorated quickly, first taking more than a minute to connect calls, then later dropping the ringing calls after 8-12 seconds. After numerous calls to tech support I was told by the technicians and developers that it is a known issue with no date for an anticipated resolution in sight. Excuse me, What?!? It has been almost a month and I am forced to use a competitor’s app while at work (most of my day) at a huge cost. This is not what I signed up for AT ALL. Fix your app, please!

Love the app and the phone service

I’ve been using the phone service for about a year but only recently started using OomaHomePhone . I was looking forward a way to provide developer feedback- seems like there should be an easier way than writing a review but it doesn’t appear there is. When I block a caller, there are options to label the type of call- robocall, collection agency, personal, etc. it would be great if they could add one called fraud or something similar. I’ve been getting those calls lately where they are going to send me to jail if I don’t call back and give them my SS or bank account number. Would be great to label those as fraud or scams when I block them.

Phone service

Ooma has been a great home phone service. We have been with them since the beginning and although there were some issues (as there are with any new app) we have always had great service no matter what the issue. This latest update has been great. I can now blacklist straight from OomaHomePhone , and I can receive and make calls without actually using my phone. I have OomaHomePhone on all my devices and I must say answering and making calls from my iPad is such a convenient way to stay on the iPad where I may have been looking for a product or company and make the calls while still being able to keep the search engine open to discuss anything while hands free from a phone call. FIVE STARS + FOR OOMA.

Great app

I love OomaHomePhone and Ooma in general. First, Ooma doesn’t cost me anything (I pay $5 a month, however, for Premium service). Second, I get calls sent to my cell + rings at the base. Third I get a transcript of my calls on my phone. Fourth there are a lot of other features that make it great for my business. You can block calls, mask your number (if you wanted to do such a thing which I don’t but others might), has a contact list, a special ring, conference calling, texting, email and text alerts, spam blocking, on and on. I couldn’t be more pleased with something that is practically free. I don’t know how the crap they do it but I’m glad I discovered them!

Even better when used overseas traveling!

I’ve been using Ooma for the better part of 6 years+. OomaHomePhone is especially great when traveling outside the country. That’s because I can get data only SIM cards for my cell phone (cheaper than voice+data) and just use the Ooma app to make and receive calls (which uses data instead of voice minutes). Even better is with T-Mobile they give free texting and slow 2G data which is fine for making calls through Ooma. Ooma is basically free and T-Mobile data roaming is free which makes keeping in touch internationally really affordable (like in FREE)! Voice quality is great too!

Excellent features for the price

After buying the hardware I’m only paying local taxes for phone service at home.

After using it at home for a while I decided to get it for my business too. For $10/month for their premier tier service, I get so many useful features, the smartphone app being the best.

I’m not too happy about getting error messages about poor network quality every single time I use the mobile app for a call, but it works. I don’t have poor network quality by the way. It’s 50/50Mb/s fiber internet with the iPhone on WiFi.

Saving a lot of $

I switched from another online service because they kept increasing their price. I didn’t feel that their service was good enough to continue. My brother bought us this unit and I set it up. We have had no issues for over 2 years now. The call quality has always been excellent and easy to use. The one thing I would love is a way to block spam numbers or block known numbers. I believe it is available for premium but I don’t want to spend that much extra $ for something I feel should be included already.

Great service easier than other VOIP services

People think that WhatsApp or Skype are the only ways to do phone calls .... if you want a full-service landline and number that you can receive calls on your smart phone you should really consider OOMA.... I have use their services for over five years after having switched from Vonage and the only complaint I have is sometimes if the data speed is not fast enough cars can get choppy on occasion... other than that the call sound like they’re in HD....

By

Amazing Company

Recently (within the last year) we were with Vonage and our promo price was ending. I attempted to reach out to them and lower the bill to remain with them. I was on an unlimited plan. The only price reduction had a limited number of outgoing minutes. For a customer who uses their landline more than their cellular phone, this was a huge slap in the face. Ooma has been good to me and with COVID they have been very flexible and keep their service affordable even when you have the deluxe plan! Thank you Ooma!!!

Good service, works pretty well with voiceover for blind users with a few bugs

OomaHomePhone works pretty well. There are two areas of improvement that would make it even better. The first is when you are asked to rate a call, VO does not read which star you have selected. There are 1 to 5 s stars to choose from, and you have no way to know which star you hit. So i’ve. Rated calls wrong more than once. The second thing that Would be helpful is to integrate the dial pad of iOS’s native dialer into Ooma. There is a bug in the contacts when flicking by heading its a bit jumpy with VO, but this is not a deal breaker, but just needs to be fixed.

Surprisingly improved.

Much improved and love that i can readily change setting to receive incoming calls. Blacklisting is a sinch. Had had this service for about 10 years, used OomaHomePhone and was no bueno. Am impressed with apps improved call quality and features. Will likely upgrade my home device (as it is old and likes to echo). Cant give it up as my home number is my “give out” number.(the number i give to businesses then block)

Ooma

Switching from AT&T to Ooma was the best deciding and now it’s officially my home phone service.

OomaHomePhone is convenient to use because when someone leaves a voicemail, I’m able to open up OomaHomePhone and check it using my phone instead of in the past having to log in from the computer.

Everything in OomaHomePhone is laid out in a simple format so if you aren’t that great with technology, you’ll still be able to function through OomaHomePhone .

Best phone system out there!

Ooma is a great phone system! Very easy to use and install with great customer service if needed. Saves us so much money and OomaHomePhone is extremely easy to use and adds many wonderful features. When we travel around the world we can make calls as if we were on our home phone if we have Wi-Fi connection. These calls are free if they would be free for my home phone! Plus we get our voicemail around the world and calls if there’s Wi-Fi available especially.

Can’t Recommend

The Good: It’s cheaper than regular phone service.

The Bad: They audio quality is terrible. The reliability and uptime is problematic and unreliable.

The Ugly: The audio quality. You have to be 1 foot from the base to hear clearly with their devices.

The Summary: I personally had a TERRIBLE experience with this service, their devices and their customer service. My identity was stolen and I admittedly failed to update autopay so.. even though Ooma has a free service they opted to RELEASE my phone number that I’ve had for decades WITHOUT notification. I was told they “left me phone messages” ON THE PHONE NUMBER THAT WASNT WORKING. I was also told they left me emails but that’s also not true I have a bunch of advertising emails from them but no billing issue notifications. When I realized the autopay was set to the old credit card I attempted to update but my account had been deleted. Moving to the free service would have made more sense. All in all… I cannot recommend even their free service as it is more of an inconvenience than anything.

Ooma

I love where the only price is the taxes (free version which we currently have). Have tried out the premier\paid version for some extra features, and might be worth it because of the constant Robb calls we are getting. I was made aware though a friend has been using it for last few years. When I signed up, I spent a little more and got the Home Security bundle, which I love. If you still want to have a landline, but don’t want to get ripped off, then check out Ooma.
