Needs improvements, not reliable

I am really stressed with AladdinConnect. My home is entirely automated, I changed my old motors to this new one thinking they would be better but they are not, the wifi and app technology is horrible. AladdinConnect is Impossible to use and it does not work all the time, it is REALLY slow to open and close the doors (almost 45 seconds to take the action) their server has issues all the time which makes their app insanely slow always loading, since I installed it and created a login I keep seeing a pop message: “cluster_max_load” (badly develop app/back end service) and that the service cannot connect at this time. How can I trust it to open my doors??! So disappointed. I tested through 4g, and all my different wifi networks. Terrible experience so far, not working. it connects but shows unknown status most of the times. After hours, finally works for some time and the garage door finally communicates, most of the time their server is not responding, which makes me affraid about their infrastructure.

Most unreliable app ever released

I bought 2 expensive garage openers with with a smartphone app for 3 reasons: safety, security, reliability. AladdinConnect has been completely unreliable which compromises security and my family’s safety. After having old school remotes stolen out of a vehicle and other property stolen as a result, I bought these openers because of this highly rated app with positive reviews. My experience has been just the opposite. The Siri Shortcuts quit working at random times, have to be deleted and reconnected almost weekly. Since the latest update the doors will open but AladdinConnect shows they timed out. AladdinConnect then does not reset. The e only solution from Genie was to delete AladdinConnect , restart my internet and completely repeat the setup, a process that takes an hour from start to finish. To the developers: put your updates through more rigorous beta testing and fix these glitches before pushing out the release. Securing people’s lives and property demands nothing less!

Backend system is very unreliable

Twice in the past month (that I know of) their backend system was down. Not a WiFi issue. I can’t even logout if AladdinConnect because their entire system is down. Can’t rely on this as a way to get in and out of your house. I’ve been a loyal customer of Aladdin for 30yrs and this is the first Major issue I’ve had with them. Was a great company, but has no idea how to run the IT infrastructure for a smart home device. Yes, I work in an IT Infrastructure dept for a Fortune 100 Co. This would not fly where I work!
Update from developer: system is back up. Can we get an explanation as to what happened and what is being implemented to mitigate this from happening again please?
“Sorry officer, I’m going the speed limit now” doesn’t quite cut it. We pay $$ for your product, we deserve to know what happened.

The worst app I’ve ever seen

Just bought new Genie looking forward to using AladdinConnect. Connected backwards, app command to close door when door was already closed and visa versa, when open command to open, tech support had me up on a ladder taking cover off to pull wires to reset…seriously? But I did it, helped until next morning, checked AladdinConnect , shows offline, and will not reconnect, I have a mesh network and 5G they said app needs 2.4? Get real… what a disaster and a disappointment in Genie, waiting to see how this will shake out in the end. I’ll update

Update - the next morning AladdinConnect was offline, pretty much wrote this off, deleted AladdinConnect , well called tech support this am reinstalled app, changed password too, and somehow it connected to my mesh network and seems to be functioning properly, tech Kayla was very friendly and supportive, ran a couple checks seems to be ok now, time will tell, still shouldn’t be this difficult.

Currently Locked Out of My House Because This App Blows

Recently discovered the partner app for my garage door opener - so I got it installed and ready to go. It’s worked decently well for the past few weeks, and figured while guests are staying over I’ll give them my spare key and use the garage opener app.

Lo and behold, the ONE TIME I need it to work because both my partner and guest are visiting people, AladdinConnect doesn’t work and displays this nonsensical “status unknown” icon on my door. I should be able to establish whether or not the door is open manually, and reset from a distance if needed. Now I’m waiting down the street on the patio of a closed taqueria for someone to get home so I can re-enter my house…

Definitely don’t rely on AladdinConnect, if I weren’t a large man I’d feel very unsafe right now, and I wouldn’t want someone to be put in danger because AladdinConnect doesn’t have any failsafes.

App not working properly since last update

Since the last update 2 weeks ago AladdinConnect has been malfunctioning. I have verified that my wifi is working properly. I have tested multiple devices and internet speed apps to ensure I have a proper connection. The Aladdin genie unit is showing a green light in the top right corner which indicates it is connected.

Initially it will show AladdinConnect is working and the current status of the garage door as showing closed or open. When you try to open or close the garage, it changes to a wifi icon that is grayed out with a line through it and showing offline. I just checked and my genie is showing a green light that indicates the unit is connected to my wifi. I am on my wifi as I write this review. Please remedy the issue as you don’t want anyone to get locked out of their house due to the fact that they may an extra lock on their front door.

Thank you!

So far so good. But so far to go...

Just installed new garage door opener. AladdinConnect was one of the deciding factors. All works as advertised. But I have to say there is so much more to expect! Where is the obvious CarPlay integration? I mean where would it most make sense to want to open my garage door with a phone app? How about FROM MY CAR?! I thought, ok, well perhaps I can easily open it via my AppleWatch? Um, no. Can’t do that either. Seriously it’s not like these are totally new technologies... at this point you have to wonder why even go through the trouble of creating AladdinConnect in the first place? So fed up with the support. Just want to simply add open and close garage door to Shortcuts to automate or enable Siri. Nope. Can’t do that either... of course not. What’s up guys? Still back in 2007 in your programming skills?

Be careful if you have multiple locations- still a problem

You can’t segregate the locations. I’ve accidentally opened my son’s door several times until he locked me out. Now I went with Aladdin again and it keeps happening. Sometimes when I just put it in my pocket the open button in the wrong location accidentally gets pressed. I wish Aladdin would allow us to set up separate locations. I’ve set up to alert me when this happens, but AladdinConnect fails to do that. I wish I had gone with another company. Still no solution with multiple locations. Why can’t Aladdin do something simple like add an optional pin to prevent accidental openings. Something needs to be done because it is a security risk. I don’t know why it opens because I close AladdinConnect after using. Could it be a bug in the software??? Will I have to scrap one of my openers? I wish genie could give me an answer.

Don’t waste your money on Aladdin

Recently I purchased a new genie garage door opener with the Aladdin option. Since day one it has not functioned properly. After our garage door has been opened we can not close it with our keypad, fobs or our home connect in our vehicles. We can how ever close it with the Aladdin app on our phone. I have also noticed that if the lights on the garage door opener have timed out and turned off then we can close the door with our fobs, keypad and home connect. I have tried calling support multiple times and still have not spoke to anyone. They tell you they will call you when next operator is available but you better have your phone ready. When they called It rings once and they are gone. I have since disconnected opener from WiFi and deleted app. Door works fine now. It’s a good idea but definitely needs improvement.

When it works, I love it, but….

I use Aladdin Connect to control 3 new Genie openers. When AladdinConnect works, I like it very much and it can be very useful. However, in the week or so that I’ve been using it, various repeating app errors cause me to question its reliability. I have a reliable wifi mesh system with a wifi AP in my garage about 15 feet away. This AP has a strong connection back to the rest of the mesh. All the door sensors have line-of-sight to the Aladdin DCM. Approximately 75% of the time AladdinConnect works as advertised. But for the other 25% of the time, 3 app errors tend to reoccur. The most prevalent error is cluster_max_load, next is a generic “something went wrong” dialog and finally occasionally all my doors temporarily disappear from AladdinConnect . AladdinConnect does not work at all when any of these 3 errors occur. Even when AladdinConnect is functional, it often continues to show that a door is still in the process of completing a request 3-5 minutes after successfully opening or closing a door. As things currently stand, I’m not confident that AladdinConnect will work when I really need it.

Update: now all my door activity history is missing along with all my configuration (rules and additional users, etc.) Emailed support 24 hours ago and am awaiting their reply. Changed rating down to 2 stars.

Randomly goes offline

When it works it’s great. I’m able to let my housekeeper in via my phone. However it has randomly gone offline three times in the last three months. Most recently twice this week. The first time I went through all the steps to reconnect, but it never did. I finally gave up and thought we would never be able to use AladdinConnect to open it and then it suddenly starts working again for no reason. Now this week it’s randomly gone off-line …it’ll come back on and then a day later I noticed I’m not getting notifications and it’s off-line. Calling the company is completely useless because they just have you try to go through the steps to reset it to Wi-Fi, which is obviously not the issue if it can randomly come on and off by itself.
Update: it’s been several months since I’ve written this review and I’m still having the same problem goes on and off line for no reason whatsoever.

Quick thoughts 3 years in

I’ve been really pleased with the Aladdin app. At first, I was concerned because it didn’t seem to stay connected after every few weeks. Those bugs have been worked out and it maintains communication with my Wi-Fi and the units well. I have two garage doors and two separate units and it’s very responsive and simple user interface. It be nice to see more features and functionality added to it. It does not work well with my Alexa, but that’s probably an Alexa problem because Alexa doesn’t work well with much of anything. I’m happy with it. I’ve recommended it to others. my only complaint is I would love to see more features for the price you pay for these things.

Constantly having to reprogram

Idk if this is an app issue or equipment issue. I call and am told its app or that I should disconnect my door for 3 days and call back. There needs to be an override to the disabled status.

AladdinConnect itself is easy to use but the install text is not accurate in the beginning of the install set up. The Retrofit software and equipment is a pain for sure. Shows door status is online, wifi excellent. Shows signal strong, status connected and battery level is good. Yet the door is disabled constantly and must reprogram each time. Using the wall control doesn’t change it from being disabled.

Also the door likes to open on its own continually and always shows it is opened via Local when no one has accessed it. Checked wires they are tight, checked garage sensors, there is no obstruction. Multiple times the door has opened and closed repeatedly (I have it set to close after 20 min) in the middle of the night while we are sleeping, sometimes during the daytime after we leave for school and work or while we are out of town. Of course AladdinConnect will end up disabled and I’m left with an open garage until I can find a neighbor to close. This is frustrating.

Works Great

I purchased two of these garage door openers from Costco about two years ago. I self installed which for me is an accomplishment. Very easy to get set up. I have occasionally had a loss in Internet, where I had to do a reset but other than that, the garage door opener work as intended. The learning feature works quite well when connecting to your car home link system. When I did have a challenge with my 911 it was more of where to hold the remote which was very unstained, but that is a 911 design function not an Aladdin garage door function. I would recommend the unit units and I am overall very pleased with AladdinConnect .

Great jackshaft openers with a very solid app!

After running in to all sorts of issues with the competition’s jackshaft openers (lack of tension leading to catastrophic and irreplaceable plastic gear failure, anyone?!) and their remotes and app repeatedly failing me, I decided I’d be giving the Genie solution a try at my new house. It probably goes without saying based on my star rating, but I couldn’t be happier. The two openers are quieter and more consistent than what I had before and AladdinConnect has performed flawlessly when operating without my Homelink remotes from my vehicles. I didn’t even bother with a number pad outside of the doors because this software works so consistently and seamlessly. 👌🏻

I love this app and all the genie products

So I purchased this house and inside the garage there was a genie belt driven opener. I decided to try and connect but previous owner already had the device registered under his email. I called genie support they were very nice and helpful unlinked the device from his account and I was able to properly register it under my Aladdin app. Then i decided to upgrade the second garage door with another genie so I can have everything in the same app. Genie openers are great I might also upgrade to a bolt drive later down the road but the belt is also very nice. I just wish it opened the door a bit faster.

Alladen app

So far so good. Only two times did we have a problem with WiFi not getting the command to close . Not sure what the issue was. It eventually I did get the command and I was notified of the door closing as commanded. And AladdinConnect shows at what time it closed. The best feature is you can set a count down also called a rule to close after certain amount of time or a rule to close if the door is open from a set time period ie(close door after an hour or what ever amount of time or close if door is open between day 8 am to 10 pm) very user friendly

Expensive but worth it

I purchased an Aladdin connect garage door after having tried several others that failed. At the beginning I had set up and had notification problems, but the helpful costumer service was exceptional. Even the sirely lady that obviously didn’t like dealing with me ( or my sarcastic comments( you say one thing but it didn’t work) ) was appreciated ( in the end). After several calls, and rearranging the instrument to a better position this continued to continual works, both with Alexa, her voice command, and through their program. Haven’t been back to customer service in at least a year( knock on wood). More expensive, yes; but it works!!

Enjoyed the App for the first year

I have 2 Genie Model 2128 openers and both have worked flawlessly for a year. They continue to work with the wall button and the car remotes. Both stopped working correctly the same day with Aladdin Connect. I've called Customer Support multiple times with the same results... a higher level of support will call you back.. at times being told with 48 hours others have said 24 hours.. it's coming up to a month now and still no call! If you intend to buy Genie Openers like the 2128 I hope your experience is better than mine. When AladdinConnect works it's great when it breaks don't count on Customer Support to be there for you.

Garage door & app are excellent!

Wow! I’m so impressed by how easy it was to install the Genie 3155D smart garage opener. The seamless customer journey between the hardware install to the application setup and usage is top tier product strategy, design, and development. You can tell the Genie product teams are collaborating very well by how easy a DIY install of two garage door openers and mobile connection setup using AladdinConnect all happened within 3 hours this afternoon. I’m not a pro, but the process was smooth, everything worked, and I found value in every feature of the hardware and the mobile application.

Keep up the great work Genie product teams! You guys are killing it. I don’t work for Genie BTW :)
