Poor Integration and Customer Service

I have been using this app for almost a year at an apartment complex that won’t allow me to opt out of the technology fee. For the first 6 months, I was hugely disappointed to find that this app doesn’t offer any kind of automations with their service. I mean, it’s kind of nice to control things from your phone, but if I still have to manually bump the temp on the thermostat from my phone whenever I want it to change, I might as well be just pressing an actual thermostat. I just think the whole point of an app controlled system should be to automate your devices so you don’t have to think about them. Or else it’s not worth the money.

After 6 months, I realized I could try integrating this app with third party apps. I spent a month and a half with Alexa and now have been trying Google Home. Both say they are compatible and work seamlessly for about a week - then become dormant. My automations stop working and say that my this app devices are ‘unresponsive.’ I am forced to disconnect, reconnect, and start the week-long process again. It’s exhausting.

I’ve reached out to this app support multiple times and have gotten unhelpful responses and now haven’t heard from them at all. I wish I could use a different system altogether.

Trash

Update: It’s worse than I thought. It is absolute trash. Never sign up with them willingly. Dwelo never works, it shows things are on or locked when they’re not. It won’t work sometimes and you get locked out of the house. Very terrible. Very very terrible.

Dwelo is absolute rubbish. It does work fairly consistently, but has some serious flaws. 50% of the time, my lights will show incorrectly as on or off.

Another security issue, is that this terrible app could also be telling me the incorrect position of my deadbolt. I don’t like having a terrible app controlling my safety in more ways than one.

When you adjust the temperature, after a few seconds, Dwelo changes the temperature back to what it was, and does not change the temperature to what you just set it at. It’s infuriating honestly.

Finally, Dwelo lacks seriously regular run of the mill capabilities. It can’t even be programmed to have the thermostat adjust on a schedule. It also can’t schedule the lights. Wouldn’t it be great if the lights turned on when you got home? Other apps could do that, but not this one.

Latest version IS HORRIBLE

The version prior where everything was on one screen worked great....this new version which now has three different screens is absolutely the WORST. Whoever thought it was a good idea to change it should be FIRED! The button to unlock and lock your door used to work great but in this latest version they for some stupid reason made the button smaller and now it doesn't work half the time when you press it. I wish I could use the older version of Dwelo because unlike this new one, it actually worked.

Worst smart home app!

I live in a complex that uses dweko and I’m now in month 3 of paying for a service that doesn’t work. Three emails went unanswered, multiple tech calls and finally had to demand a tech or my money back (and I wasn’t so nice when I demanded one). A tech came out. It worked for a week a and here we are again. Totally useless and now unsafe. My door randomly locks and unlocks including the middle of the night. Woke up freezing one night and the temp on my AC was down to 68. I keep it at 75. I finally just unplugged the unit and stopped using it but I’m still paying for it. My complex doesn’t allow an opt out. At least my door stays locked at night.

Lack of security. Trash app. Don’t use.

If you’re renting a home/apartment from someone and they’re asking you to pay extra for a “technology package” that includes this app, deny it. Dwelo doesn’t work 75% of the time. You’ll find it says there are lights on when they’re aren’t, the door says it’s unlocked when it’s actually locked and it’s awesome when the AC/heater controls don’t work while you’re out of town and you end up paying more on your utilities. Dwelo is trash and has probably costed me upwards of $500 in “(lack of) technology package” fees and utility costs.

I’ve had Dwelo going on two years soon. What worries me for the future is they haven’t cared enough to fix the only functions on their operating system so our information and passwords is most likely also at risk.

To finish, yes I have reached out to support. Their resolution was essentially to unplug it and plug it back in (delete and re-download). I’ve done this a few times, not once has it fixed a thing.

This app is a disappointment

To wake up at four AM and open your app to adjust your a/c only to see that your door is unlocked (according to Dwelo ) is unsettling to say the least. When I check the door, it’s locked and my home is secure. This happens far too often. Dwelo is garbage, don’t bother with it, especially if you have any type of anxiety at all. Oh and forget relying on it when you’re out of town or away from. It will all of a randomly freeze, not allowing you to adjust your a/c, tell you lights are on when they aren’t, and...you guessed it, will say that your door is unlocked when you know it isn’t. It definitely doesn’t give you any peace of mind when out of town. Pointless. Do better this app.

The whole Dwelo system is garbage

I’ve had it for nearly 3 years and it only works intermittently. The this app team can’t do anything about it, not to say they haven’t tried - they have. And they’re pretty nice too. But they’ll never get this working for us because they can’t. And we’re stuck with the $30/mo. fee for it until we move which we aren’t planning to do anytime in the next couple of years. Complete waste of money. Had we known this was going to happen we wouldn’t have even moved here. As of right now neither Dwelo nor the website has worked at all in weeks.

Low Tech. Glitchy App. Unreliable.

At first I thought this was going to be great. I have been using this app for over a year and I’ve been really disappointed.

- Dwelo is almost never correct on if your door is locked/unlocked
- the press to unlock/lock takes so much time, that I don’t use it. My keg is faster and I know it will unlock. With Dwelo , I never know.
- I have integrated it with Alexa, but it disconnects about every 2 weeks. While it’s not hard to reconnect, this shouldn’t be a constant, annoying issue.
- can’t run a schedule in the thermostat.
-can’t control the brightness of the lights. I don’t use them because they are so bright. My eyes feel like I’ve been staring at the light in the dentist office. I have lamps that I use and am able to control.

I had google nest thermostat at my last place and I was much more impressed with its capabilities and how user friendly it was.

this app is unreliable. Obviously my apartment complex went with the cheapest, unreliable, low tech “smart” system despite charging an outrageous amount of money for a tech fee.

Not user friendly/no customization available

Users need to be able customize the vanilla interface. Font sizes are too small, white background is difficult to see w/o a dark background option, section windows on the home screen are too small and unexpandable so you spend a lot of time scrolling around to navigate the interface. It would helpful if a user could preselect 4 or 5 of the most commonly used door locks so one didn’t have keep scrolling around in the dark trying to find the right unlock door/gate icon.

My apartment complex is captive to the this app system, otherwise I would try an alternative solution that is more user friendly and customizable.

New update is wildly inconvenient

The new tap and hold door lock/unlock feature is not for the faint of heart. The success rate of actually getting Dwelo to unlock a door has dropped from about 95% to well under 30% even for the most technologically advanced users. Did anyone test this feature while carrying a few bags of groceries or having your hands full and approaching a door? In those situations, the probability that you can successfully tap and hold in the perfect form that is required to unlock a door is below 10%.

In short, time to redesign again because as-is, using a key or fob is much easier! Two stars instead of one though because I can still adjust the thermostat and lights easily!

Changing the Temp is Annoying

There is this issue with Dwelo that I find to be quite annoying and I hope the developers read this so this issue can be fixed. Most of the time I have my heat/ac turned off. When I turn either of those on the setting is way different than what I had previously set it too. It would be nice if the temp setting could be saved on “heat” and “cool”. When adjusting the temperature it will jump back to what it was just a few seconds ago - this will happen 2 to 3 times until the temperature setting stays where I set it to. This happens when I have had the temp off and I am then trying to adjust it.

As with everything Dark Mode would be cool. Sometimes I’m in bed and I’m trying to adjust the temperature.

Great When it Works

I moved into my apartment in April. The service was great and that’s what the two stars are for. Since the new update it constantly is telling me it’s not connected to the wifi and it doesn’t connect to my thermostat. I really liked being able to control my AC while at work so I could save money but I can’t even do that. If I call support it gets fixed for that moment and then it’s off to no longer connecting the next day. It’s truly annoying and inconvenient. I really wish I could opt out of the service with my apartment complex!!

Buggy and limited functionality

We try to change the temperature and it will automatically change it back. And then it'll automatically switch to hot and cool. But it also often won't actually switch so we never know what it's doing. I usually just get up and change it on the thermostat itself.

Also, app is pretty simplistic. Maybe it's the package our management purchased, but the options to schedule the heater/AC or really simple features you'd expect from a tech company aren't available.

It also constantly shows "dwello loading" at the top of Dwelo ...

Great product/ semi-glitchy app

Very happy with this product and the added convenience it provides me at home. I can use it to control my lights and thermostat. However, I must agree with some of the current reviews about details displayed in Dwelo . The information is not always correct. I typically have to press the desired light or thermostat to update it before I can turn it on or off. It isn’t automatic on the current info.

Works pretty well

I like this app-it worked perfectly up until the time I changed my router. Twice I have had to email support with questions but they responded both times within 2 days by email. I now don’t have a cellular connection on the hub and I don’t understand what changed, but WiFi seems to power things ok.

So convenient!

Ugh, this is why we’re going to turn into the fat people from Wall-E! But welcome to another episode of “Quarantined: Grateful for Random Things” - I LOVE the this app app, it’s amazing! You know the feeling of slight excitement as you get into your comfiest clothes and you sit on the couch getting ready to binge watch your fave show but darn you forgot to turn the kitchen light off and you know you need to preserve energy but you really don’t wanna get back up? Well, worry no more! You can just grab your phone and turn the light off on Dwelo ! 😂 Or turn on the A/C and lock the door from the convenience of your couch. 5/5, would highly recommend. 👍🏼

Only smart home I have experience with but LOVE IT

It’s so nice to be able to get settled in bed then shut off the light from your phone. However my favorite thing is ch cling your door from your phone to make sure it’s locked!!! I can’t tell you how many times I have gotten in the car and couldn’t remember if I locked my door, not a problem now 😜

UPDATE: App doesn’t work

UPDATE: the issue was resolved so it’s working now. Changing the rating since the fixed it so fast. Their support team also responded to my email quickly.

I just downloaded 3.0.2 today and it still does not work. I can unlock my door but I cannot see the lights or thermostat to change them.

Dwelo Apartment Set Up

I live in Dallas, TX. The apartment complex stated smart thermostat and lights on the description. I originally thought that meant a programmable thermostat and LED lights. The this app app and hardware works flawlessly. I have the front entry smart lock as well. The lights, thermostat, and entry lock give me the ability to control my apartment from anywhere I have phone signal. With the crazy snowstorm in Texas February 2021 I was stuck in central Texas away from my apartment. I was able to turn up the heat and make sure I hadn’t lost power throughout the entire storm. This gave me serious piece of mind. If there was anything wrong I would have been able to let someone in with the smart lock as well. Highly recommend this app and Dwelo is a good tool as well!

Great Service from Arylsia (online/email support) and Jimi C (service tech)!

My hub was having issues and I contacted support; Arylsia was incredibly friendly and helpful! Arylsia scheduled a service call to my home while I was at work (keeping me informed via email for every step). Jimi C was the tech that came to my home—everything works perfectly now! And Jimi left a great note behind. :-)
It’s never fun when something goes wrong, but it’s so much easier with great customer service like I got from Arylsia and Jimi C!
Thanks, this app Team! :-)
