Worst purchase experience ever

I ordered 3 blinds in November and one of them still doesn’t work at the end of March. At the first install they never sent the mounting brackets. At the second install they were the wrong mounting brackets. At the third attempt they sent the wrong mounting brackets again. Finally my dealer mounted them without any brackets which is nearly impossible to get level so my blinds will never be perfect. The hub they sent failed to update itself and had to be returned to two months to send a new one. Then we noticed one of the blinds had the wrong bottom bar type and didn’t match the other two. Then one of the motors failed to program and it took three months for Hunter Douglas to send a new one. When the new motor arrived it worked at first and when I linked it to the this app app it lost the program stops and now I’m told it has to be returned to the factory again to be reset.

I have a customer service call record it would take days to read. Half the representatives are nice and helpful the other half refused to help me and just tell me this the dealers job call your dealer.

Terrible business model. Stay away from this app blinds at all costs.

New version requires Bluetooth access

I have several gen 2 shades which PowerView controls via a hub and RF. This has been working fine for a few months since I bought them and set them up.

PowerView update today adds a requirement for Bluetooth access to support the new gen 3 shades, and PowerView will not function at all unless I grant it. If I go back and revoke Bluetooth access, which it should not need since I only have gen 2 shades, PowerView pops up a dialog and won’t let me do anything unless I turn it on.

Granting Bluetooth access has privacy and other implications and I shouldn’t be forced to grant it so I can continue using the shades I already have been using.

how to ruin good shades

make an app that does not work, forgets about shades it uses daily, and every ios update fails horribly. Now stuck trying to grant local access which is always checked but uncheck and check again does not help. Way to QA your releases. I’ve tried this experiment of an app for years and keep coming back because HD makes automated shades without option of manual control. Next house I will go with a shade maker that isn't stuck in the 1960s “dealer” scheme.

Per app response from HD: Yes I know where local settings are on my iPhone. You have already replaced all my shades because of your wifi problems but declined to fix PowerView so it doesn’t forget about shades. Im sick and tired of having to hold the tab of the shades it forgets just to try to get them back. Most of the shades are tall and require getting on a ladder. Again stop making automated shades that cannot be opened or closed manually. No way Ill ever work with HD again.

Disappointing App - Poor design -

I’m extremely disappointed with PowerView and with Hunter Douglas. PowerView is cumbersome to setup and configuring the order of the SCENES seems impossible. I have 5 shades installed in the house. When viewing the battery status of each shade; 3 shades show a GREEN battery, the other 2 Shades show a GRAY battery. I tried to get help using their website chat function; the technician told me at first to contact my installer, (who had told earlier that the problem is with Hunter Douglas, not the installation) the tech had no other solution than to refresh my shades. For as much money as these shades cost, I expect an app they works and tech support service that can actually solve problems, not try to blame the installer.

Shades don’t work consistently with app

I have three shades: two honeycomb and one skylight. My this app network consists of a hub and a repeater. The skylight, which is closest to the hub works without any issues. The two honeycomb shades which are within a few feet from the repeater work about 20% of the time. The pebble remotes work consistently so it is an issue with the this app app or network.

Overall Installation wasn’t too great as my installer did not set up the this app app and I had parts installed correctly that I had to fix (I had blackout channels on the side that were not fully affixed and the flashing/molding that is used to help stop light leakage along the sides is not installed correctly).

I have spoke with Hunter Douglas twice now trying to fix the inconsistent behavior of PowerView /shades and nothing has worked. I have moved the location of the hub/repeater and performed a hard reset on the repeater and shades to try and fix my issues. The shades will work for a few hours, but by the next morning when I want them to open, they don’t or only one of them will open.

Overall they would be a really great product if they worked, but I cannot recommend anyone waste their time or money.

Blinds are great but App is terrible

Brand new setup installed today and I’ve spent more time trying to leverage all the features than I cared to. The gateway needs constant refreshing even though it appears to always reconnect to the blinds without issue. The Apple Watch feature is not working. Their is no widget option in PowerView even though the support pages shows this option. A lot of bugs and these issues unfortunately defeat the purpose of having any of the smart features because you cannot utilize anything as you should be able to. Remotes and basic opening operations in PowerView are the only thing that actually works as it should. Really disappointing and hoping I don’t regret this expensive purchase due to lack of properly functioning “smart” features.

Bugs in the latest version update 😩

The convenience is great, yes, but when rating the functionality of PowerView in relation to how it's supposed to perform, there's a lot of room for improvement. Previous versions have had bugs with the setting of the blinds in PowerView is not matching how they are actually set in real life, which is annoying but at least they work. With this new update, when selecting all 3 blinds in one room, they simply do not respond to any action to open them. They just flutter and don't move. In order to open them, you have to select one blind at a time, then open, which is just a pain since that requires like 9 actions to open the blinds in one room. Please fix this bug and release an update ASAP. Thanks.

Apple Watch App

Can somebody please tell me exactly what the Apple Watch app does? All I ever get is a message stating, “Add Scenes from the Menu in the this app App.” Well, duh, what do you think I’ve done? About 15 months ago. In all that time, the Apple Watch app has never worked. And yes, I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling it; don’t go there.

Look, if you’re going to have an app, then support it and make it work. Right now, it looks like some very lazy people keep this silliness around just to point to it when their bosses ask what have they accomplished. What it really does is that it makes Hunter Douglas look inept and uninspired. Is that really what you want your customers to think?

Recently stopped connecting

I had the same problem as some other people. Some things wouldn’t work, it kept complaining I needed to connect to my home network, but not obvious how to do anything new about that. And my network has not changed and is working fine. (30 years in software industry, it’s not me.)
I poked around and got something to work, and that must have pinged something because the rest works now and it’s stopped complaining, fir now anyway. But you should probably look at any recent changes in PowerView .

PowerView itself is ok, but parts of the UI are confusing and leave much to be desired.

Great App, but poor iOS accessibility support

I love PowerView. It is well thought out and helps me control my Hunter Douglas shades at my fingertips. But unfortunately it does not support accessibility users. When my device is set to zoomed mode, many elements don’t appear on the screen. One example is the initial screen to connect to the local Network. The user is required to select a continue button, which is intended to be rendered at the bottom of the screen, but in zoomed, it mode doesn’t even render on the screen at all. So I’m required to go into my device settings and disable zoomed mode in order to continue using PowerView . Similar experience when editing scenes: most of the scene icons don’t render on the screen in zoomed mode. Please be mindful of your visually impaired users when developing and testing your app.

Great App, but needs Shortcuts support

This is a great app overall, but unfortunately when I tried to connect PowerView to HomeKit, it became a nightmare. If I modified the shades in homekit, the this app app would become out of sync with the shades. It was next to impossible to use both.

A great way to allow the best of both worlds would be to add support to trigger a scene via a shortcut in the Shortcuts app. That way you could still control everything with Siri but via the this app app so things didn’t get out of sync in HomeKit.

Can’t Add a New Scene

When trying to create a new scene, I select the room, then next. The website says I can then give it a custom name, but in PowerView I can just select a color then an icon. After I select one it gives me the option of adding weather icon, rather than giving met that option from the start. Then the Next button doesn’t work. So I’ve been unable to create new scenes beyond what was set up by the installer.

Updated - called customer service and problem fixed

I accidentally selected a color for my repeater and now it literally won’t go off. I’ve selected off’ and confirmed via DONE and still stays colored. Switching it to any other color doesn’t work either. So tired of this crappy app - half the time it doesn’t open the shades at all. Have to unplug and restart way too frequently.

UPDATED: thanks to a friendly customer service rep who patiently walked me through some fixes and resets my remote controlled blinds are now working great and no more problems w PowerView ! Thank you!

PowerView works

I’ve had this app since the beginning. Upgraded to the Gen2 hub shortly after it was released. The setup was easy and migration to Gen2 was flawless. All shades respond to my commands either with the scenes tab or through automations. The calibration function through PowerView makes it easy the correct minor fluctuations in the limit stops. The Gen2 hub with the wireless option makes it easy to move the hub to the central part of the home and then move your Gen2 repeater to wherever you need a little more signal coverage. If you need assistance the Hunter Douglas this app team is ready to help.

Developer support and api

First, a great physical blind product.
Second, PowerView is really really good.
Third, while doesn’t matter to most people, their api and documentation of the api is benchmark. I have developed a home automation plugin for Universal Devices EISY product (the best home automation product). Hunter Douglas does not seem to look at this as competition as some companies do. They get that there are many use cases out there which are complementary to their app and embrace it. Very refreshing. So I just spent $10k on more blinds with HD. What more is there to say. Keep it up.

Convenience I Didn’t Know I Needed!

I just don’t understand the negative reviews I’ve read. Maybe they’re really old? PowerView works so well now. Note the overall star rating. PowerView is SO COOL. I can time scenes to adjust my shades at certain times of day, I can use my google home mini (or Alexa) to control my shades with voice commands, all in all this is a cool cool app. It’s so convenient not to have to walk around the home and adjust shades manually at morning or at night. And if I forgot to close or open shades after I’ve left home, I can do it from anywhere with PowerView. Get a this app hub and have some fun. Love showing off this system to all my friends and family!

Awesome

Love the this app App. We’ve set up a few automations that work flawlessly throughout the day. PowerView and automations continued to function when my internet was down (from a storm). Once you learn it, it’s pretty easy to use. My favorite is setting up closures to happen 15 min before sunset. It automatically adjusts daily depending on the sunset time. If I have any complaint it’s if I leave PowerView open on my iPhone it appears to increase battery consumption. So I’ll open, execute then swipe up to close.

Hunter Douglas got it right!

What a great system the Hub and the corresponding App are. I get perfect response every time. Love it to pieces.

I suspect people who aren’t happy with their installation don’t understand the nature of RF control of things and as a result create their own issues. I even read about one person who posted that they had 4 repeaters in the same room. Can you imagine the messy signals from 4 sources the shades were getting. That’s a self inflicted technical wound.

I followed the instructions carefully and get great results, truly a 5 star rating.

All good - make sure Local Network Setting is turned ON

I was having a connection issue for the past month where upon opening PowerView , I was always getting defaulted to RemoteConnect.

I found after a call to support and some mutual digging that in a recent IOS upgrade, the local network setting for the this app app is switched OFF. Obviously, once you switch it back ON, PowerView will connect to your local network and hub and you get back full functionality.

Powerview - Wow!

I have been wanting these Window coverings for the last five years and finally my husband bought them for me for my birthday!
The functionality of the this app app is unbelievably practical. I can close the shades to block out the UV rays of the afternoon sun, open them later and totally close the shades for the evening-all automatically. I don’t have to even think about it. Save a lot of $$ on air conditioning bill too! In addition, it gives the house an “I’m at home “ look when we are away for a few days.
In short, this function on my beautiful window treatments is not only easy to operate, practical and functional, it it a home safety feature too!
