Updated to iOS 15 and VidAngel wont work on any of my iOS 15 devices. This update has been out for a couple months and this app has not made sure their app can work smoothly with it. Shows wont even turn on and this isn’t the first time we’ve had issues with watching anything on VidAngel. Ever since they changed their format to streaming off of another device such as your phone or tablet they have become so difficult to use. Don’t waste your money on a subscription.

What this company allows me to do is why I give it even one star. It’s an entertainment night saver. I have a massive library to watch now. I love that. HOWEVER I’m reviewing VidAngel here. Not the amazing service. It needs work. First, WHAT IN THE WORLD happened to the watchlist?!? It takes forever to find something now because I can only see a few titles at a time. I want to see more like before so I can find what I want to watch easier. Second, WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO FAST FORWARD. without doing so in 10 second increments when streamed to a tv. It takes forever to get to a further point in a movie if I have to resume another day. Third, if I open click a video in my watch list and then go back, it shouldn’t bring me all the way back to the top of the watchlist. Fix these things and you get 5 stars 🙂🤩 thanks for the amazing service though. I love it. Just hate using VidAngel .

It’s no longer supported on any ROKU TVs, their app is terrible and needs so many updates. There are not enough movies or tv shows available. And their customer service is HORRIBLE. I signed up under the 7 day free trial, and was still immediately charged their monthly fee. When their app ended up being awful, I canceled immediately (within 24 hours). My request for a refund was tiptoed around for a week before I finally was able to talk to someone and get a refund. The idea behind this service is so amazing, but they have SO much work to do before it’s worth any amount of money.

I’ve been using this service for about 2 years now and I don’t remember it being as difficult as it is to use now. I am constantly being logged out and having to reload, occasionally even having to change my Netflix password just to log back in. About 4 out of five times you will be able to stream fine. However. Oftentimes VidAngel will glitch and buffer indefinitely. I have experimented with this by trying to stream on Netflix while this app loads and Netflix will always stream immediately with no buffering. this app will buffer almost every time you try to stream but it’s not unbearable. I think VidAngel could be worth it if it is improved but it needs a lot of work.

I love the concept of the this app’s service. However, their programming team has done a poor job implementing their iOS app. I just paid for a subscription but can’t even use it since their app doesn’t recognize my purchase even though it shows up under my Apple subscriptions as active. Everything from navigation VidAngel , managing your watchlist, or even just hitting the back button are all super buggy. As a software engineer, I simply can not understand how VidAngel is being released with such obvious bugs! I’ve used alpha/beta apps that are far more stable than this. I’m going to ask Apple for a refund.

Whatever the reason for changing the way you have to watch on firetv via using the mobile app, it totally ruined the whole experience of using this app. We’ve been users for a long time and love being able to filter inappropriate content, but with this new update we’re lucky to even get the videos to stream. We have to constantly reboot our firetv and reset VidAngel until it finally decides to actually stream to the tv...even though it sees the firetv fine. Same issues with roku. Why in the world was this horrible process put in place?

It’s as if this new version of VidAngel is an attempt to sabotage the company.

The earlier app, with all of its bugs, was at least very good conceptually. This new app is so massively lacking in features that it’s hard to believe it was launched. Too early for me to judge the stability.

Here are some of the previous features which are now missing:
• Indicator bar showing how edits impact the movie runtime
• A personal queue which was called “My Stuff”. Why would they eliminate your queue?!
• Significantly reduced number of visible icons representing availability of content. Much of the content appears to still be there, but you see a lot less of it now which reduces the browsability of the content. There should a “show all” feature.

Pluses?
• Looks cleaner. It’s well done graphically
• Playback interface (for iOS) looks and works better

I’m sure there are more complaints (and hopefully some pluses) that I’ll find as I go.

Overall, it’s quite disappointing.

Used to love using VidAngel. Interface was easy to use. Different categories were great and I appreciated knowing how much time I was cutting out by using the filters. New interface is clunky and not intuitive. Also...It no longer will airplay to Apple TV and if I try to cast using chrome cast it times out every few minutes and makes the experience of tryin to cast or airplay to my tv so unbearable that it’s not worth the money or the hassle. Probably will cancel if things don’t get sorted out in the next week. In the middle of a pandemic when people are shut inside and wanting to stream content more than ever is the wrong time to try and make updates. Previously was 5 stars.

I downloaded the other day and find the following issues:

iPad:
1. Graphically, the show thumbnails are MASSIVE and actually take a scroll or two to get to the function buttons - Watch Now, or Filters, etc. (and i’m using the 12.9 in iPad Pro).
2. A more annoying issue is that when the show is playing, the devices day/time, battery, wifi, and menu bar do not disappear. It’s extremely distracting having them present throughout the whole show.
3. The edit bar that showed how your filters impact the show/episode/film was removed for some reason. That used to be a very helpful feature.

Apple TV:
1. Quite simply, I can’t watch anything on it because it either will say there is no internet connectivity upon starting my selection, or if it does finally decide to start my selection, it will play for a few minutes then totally take over my Apple TV by freezing it on a full screen message stating, “We’re sorry there was an error”, or something of that nature. I actually need to restart my device to get it to close VidAngel .

I understand needing to make updates, but these items are so blatant i’m not sure how/why this version was released.

I want VidAngel to be successful because it’s awesome when it does! The problem is I have to try to connect to my television over and over, sometimes up to 15 minutes of trying and having to restart VidAngel and the fire stick just to get it to connect. Sometimes that doesn’t even work.

VidAngel really does help when I’m watching a family movie and there are little kids around. You can choose many things to bleep out, many things to cut out. I really love how you can cast things to your tv. One thing That I’ve been having an issue with (I don’t know if this is just me) is that when I’m watching a show I have to exit out of the show after I finish the episode and redo all the setting I have chosen to cut out. Overall, this is a really good app!

Hollywood doesn’t have to ruin otherwise enjoyable movies. They force viewers to listen to vulgar language and watch actors make out and undress on camera. VidAngel makes movies enjoyable rather than cringeworthy. As an app it’s not perfect, there are technical difficulties. Vid angel has work to do, but it has gotten better. It is essential, and therefore worth the occasional glitch.

This is great! Connecting is so easy! I can still use my Roku and Apple TV with my mobile app! Everyone needs to try this!!! Once my movie is started, I can hard close the this app app while the movie still plays on my Roku, and use my phone for texting and FB. Plus, I can use my Roku remote to fast forward or rewind and not even have to open VidAngel back up! Try it!!! You won’t regret it!

I hate that so many reviews have been bad because of whatever updates people didn’t have. It works great for me!

I love how specific the filters are. They let me know exactly what a movie has, and of course, let me decide whether or not I want to see it.

I truly wish this was a more supported idea and more available option for people who want to watch what’s popular, but not see unnecessary inappropriate content.

I was almost considering cancelling Netflix because just about everything has something in it, so it was starting to seem like a waste of money. With this app, I can have the best of both worlds: current movies/shows without the garbage.

This is an easy to use and excellent tool to censor the things that might cause us to sin. Taking the vulgarity out of movies doesn’t change the quality of movies at all, and makes you realize how unnecessary most of it is. I can watch movies with my kids now without worrying about objectionable content. Five stars.

I’m not sure I understand all of the negative reviews. Since recent updates, I’ve felt VidAngel has never worked better. I’ve loved watching many movies I otherwise would not have been able to enjoy, and I hope this service continues long into the future

For thirty some cents a day WE (not “Hollywood”) get to choose exactly what enters our home, our minds, & the minds of our children. It’s so worth it, y’all! To be able to watch grown up movies in the presence of our kids, & not have to worry about what they’ll hear or see, is wonderful! To get to watch things as a family that don’t have to be “kid” shows/movies, that’s so nice for parents and teenagers.
To honestly address some of the complaints on here—Yes, sometimes it doesn’t send to the tv the first time. We just “disconnect” and try again. Worst case, we just restart our fire stick and/or app. That may take, what, two minutes… or less? So not a big deal. And no, they don’t have every show/movie, but they’re constantly adding new content. Recently, a new Netflix series I was looking forward to was on this app the same day it released!
We just love this service. It may not be perfect, but what it does is far more significant than any occasional glitch.

So all I can really say about VidAngel is that I love it and it is great because if you want to watch something of of there with your kid then there are filters so that if you don't want there to be kissing for example then you can filter that out and another example is if you don't want VIOLENCE then you can also filter that out.

I’m so excited because I read another person’s review, and I was able to figure out how to watch it through our roku on tv. At first I was trying to find it through the roku, but I couldn’t find it. Then when I signed into vid angel I realized you start there, and it finds your roku. Love the Chosen series, and everything else they have!

this app gives power back to parents and families by giving us control of what we view in our household. The service and app work well on my iPhone and steaming to my AppleTV using “Sent to TV”. Note the native AppleTV did not work.

Filters for language, violence, and sexual content give parents fine grain control that allows my kids as young as 6 to view the same movies as my teenager. Excellent service and product! Thank you for staying in business despite the lawsuits from Hollywood! We absolutely love this app and use it every week.

Very excited to use this program and once I downloaded VidAngel , signed in, clicked agree on the “social distancing pledge” the screen does nothing, the prompt turns grey and nothing else happens, no queue, nothing, no matter how many times you press it. I already have tried deleting VidAngel , downloading it again and signing in, same exact thing. Disappointed, I know they’ll make a patch soon to fix this but the developers should know this happens sooner than later.

I was glad to see an update and had a smooth experience from a previously frustrating one — but now a week later, and we’re back to major glitches. So extremely frustrating, especially for an app that you’re required to pay a monthly service fee for. Please fix the glitches!!!

Really like the service when it works. That is about 60% of the time I try to use it. New update was helpful but i never know if it will actually “Verify” the title I am trying to watch. Will randomly tell me my login credentials don't work. Or may just think for a while and never get to the show. Very frustrating.

Thank you for making connecting devices simpler. There is one key feature missing from this update. We need the “new to this app” section back to make it easier to see what titles have been added.
