Morpholio Journal – Sketchbook Reviews

I have been using MorpholioJournal since late 2017. For three years they have been advertising “print to Moleskin—Coming Soon.” In MorpholioJournal itself they say, “email us to let us know you want this feature.” This feature has never materialized. It’s false advertising...don’t; fall for it. Meanwhile, there is no way to output your journal as a whole, you can only save images one-at-a-time. My sketchbooks are over 300 pages each, so the idea of archiving them a page at a time is ludicrous. I like drawing in Morpholio a journal...it’s light and easy. However, having an app that you can’t print (or PDF) from is a fatal flaw. The company must remove the false advertising from MorpholioJournal Store—and Apple should ding them for the false advertising.

If you are looking for a personal journal don’t bother downloading MorpholioJournal. Apparently you give all your journal entries to Morpholio and third parties (selling your data/idea/inventions). This can be found in their privacy policy. Also their contact information in the privacy policy page is invalid so we cannot reach out to validate this.

I have been journaling, sketching, etc, in paper notebooks all my life. A few months ago, I found that I could no longer have a paper journal that would remain private (snooping family member). No more journaling for me. Depression followed. MorpholioJournal on my iPad with the Apple Pencil has saved my sanity.

I can hand write and add photos, draw, paint, collage- everything that I used to do- I just do it digitally now. It’s as close as I ever expect to get to the “real thing”- and my digital art skills have vastly improved. I love it.

SUCH an intuitive interface. I’ve been looking for an app that I could sketch up my woodworking projects on, and CAD is just too much. MorpholioJournal is PERFECT. I love the ruler, the grid background, the variety of colors and pen styles, and the ability to pin pictures and post-its. Seeing all my customers’ pictures next to my design really helps me dial into their style.

Couldn’t be simpler, even without a pen. I wish I would have found MorpholioJournal sooner!!

I use Morpholio Trace constantly and love it. I wish that MorpholioJournal had more of the features from that application. Things like single finger panning and double tap on Apple Pencil to change tools would make this go from decent to invaluable. Also switching between apps of the same family should be seamless and I consistently find myself forgetting which app is open and trying to use certain methods and techniques from a different app. Make the user experience more universal across apps.

Where other Morpholio apps have progressed, adding custom colors and palettes, decent export capabilities and bug smashing, MorpholioJournal sits on the shelf.

You can’t export to an image: you must use e-mail, and it forces you into Apple mail instead of something better. No way to export an image to Photos where you can have more fun with it. No! You must do a screen capture! Ugh.

Since I’m sketching from life, I want to mix my own colors: there’s never the right color in the palette. Their palettes are predetermined according to someone’s idea of what I need, not what I really need. Worse, analogous colors are spread randomly across all palettes - so if you want olive green (does it even have olive green?), go hunting! If you want tints and shades, forget it unless someone thought them useful.

If we’re talking real sketching, I’d have blendable colored pencils, markers and/or watercolors in my kit. MorpholioJournal just doesn’t work that way, alas.

It’s so easy to assemble photos, sketches, and writing. I enjoy using MorpholioJournal with the pencil & iPad but it works ok with fingers only. The only thing missing is output of the entire journal and that’s under development.

Great app. Been using it for a whole day straight and can’t put it down. Could easily be five star with just a couple of features.

1. Full screen mode. Seems like something that should’ve been there from the beginning. Feels a little cheap in its current state. Full screen mode would help it feel more like a full sketching app.

2. Option to hide menus. When making the sketchbook as big as I can sketching, the menu often gets in the way. Should be a way to temporarily hide menu.

3. Double tap to use eraser. Another one that seems very basic. Almost every notetaking and sketching app has this. For me, eraser is just as important as pencil. With these three things added, this would easily be a five star app.

Almost what I’m looking for in art journal. 2 things absolutely needed in order for me to renew membership- 1) Text block edits. What in the world?? Journal and you can’t add to text block or edit text once you accept it on the page. Another head scratcher 2) can’t sync your journal among devices. Can’t even back up and add to other devices so you can view your journal on the go on phone.

I love Moleskine journal. I literally have a real Moleskine journal myself. I just love all of your Moleskine products. Please add the Text option in the next update. Thank you.

MorpholioJournal has not been updated in over a year. Several other apps are way ahead of this one in many features. MorpholioJournal could be great and I see much potential but looking at the current options it has a long way to go. You need to be able to sync to other devices. Until there is an update I would suggest elsewhere.

After reading the praise and great reviews of MorpholioJournal I tried it and even signed up for a premium subscription... I wish I hadn’t. My biggest complaint, using an Apple Pencil on an iPad the palm rejection is mediocre at best. I constantly find the page zooming and marking from my hand and wrist which has been an exercise in frustration.

Thought this was exactly what I needed, but ... the clear button is right next to the undo and I discovered that it’s easy to accidentally erase a lot of work and that there’s no undo for the clear. Not sure I can safely use it so ...

MorpholioJournal needs the ability to insert pages, rearrange them, and for once and for all, come through on the promise to be able to have a journal printed through moleskin!

Would also be great to be able to cut photos for the collage feature.

For a long time user of the paper version, MorpholioJournal hits the perfect balance of digital tools with analog usability.

Love MorpholioJournal. There are some small gripes and it could definitely use an update, but overall, it’s a great app. Still waiting for the print to Moleskine feature.....

I need to keep my designs in one place.....love this!

I’m trying to figure MorpholioJournal out and simply cannot find how to change the brush size. Surely it can’t be this hard.

Best app I ever had!!! I love the colors and the way it works!!!
