Exceptional! Easy to use!

I have always kept a manual this app diary. Recently, I considered transferring my journal to app-based. Before purchasing, I decided to try out available apps. This was my first choice. All went well for the first two days. (deleted the rest of my previous review).
With some reservations, I finally bought Notebook . After several journal entries, I felt a growing sense of doom. How do I get my journals into a different medium, like pdf, intact? How do I preserve my recorded thoughts from vanishing some day? What happens if I were to switch phone carriers? Can I sync my entries to a cloudbased repository to be retrieved at will? The questions are endless, and I hope Koji Ito, the developer will read these reviews, and take our interests and concerns into account. I hope he can read and understand English. Domo Arigato.
After using Notebook for some time, I felt a bit more comfortable with it, hence my reevaluation to 4 stars. The minimalist approach is impressive, but an upgrade that includes a search function would help navigate and locate critical records quickly.

Best Journaling App (IMHO)

So, this thing probably deserves 4 stars with This thing beats Reflect any day adds but they are only bar adds and I paid for their removal, so it doesn’t bother me.
That being said though, Notebook is straight to the point. You open it up and... we’ll, journal or take notes. I use it as my daily journal since I don’t have the time to stop and write on paper. This also works offline for those who don’t have internet or data to work with at the time of usage. One thing that I do recommend to the developers is that they make it to where you can put third of fourth so on and so on with a decimal and small letters (st, nd, etc.) instead of “1st” because it looks kind of tacky.
Overall I’m impressed with this basic yet fun to use app, nicely done and easy to use!

One small suggestion

I gave Notebook 4 stars as opposed to 5 because there’s one small improvement that could be made to Notebook to make it perfect! Notebook functions as a personal journal for me to write my thoughts down in an to vent when necessary. The only thing is missing is that I cannot paste images or pictures onto the pages of the this app. I can use emojis but I can’t paste any of my own personal images, Memes, or use my Bitmoji at all. I attempted to see if I could use my Bitmoji and it actually locks the keyboard down and then I cannot get it back to the regular keyboard in order to type in my passcode to allow myself back into my this app. There seems to be a bug there. I’ll have to wait several days for it to reset itself and let me back in. But I enjoy Notebook very much and I use it several days a week. I hope the developer will read this and consider my suggestion because it would be fantastic if I could paste in anything I wanted to on my pages. Thanks!

A journal, not a diary, with flexibility to write what you want

This is a plain, generally straightforward journal, that allows a person to write about what happens , their feelings, or whatever they want. Notebook fits the bill.

You can go back to a table of dates and add to something that you wrote, but unfortunately the addition is not dated. IAlso, if you find yourself at the index, getting elsewhere does not seem intuitive. You can see from there how to start writing, but not necessarily figure out how to find what you already wrote or the instructions. Once you figure that out (press the number next to the year) navigation is easier.

However I like the ability to write freely without limitations on the number of characters you use. I like being able to reread what I have written before and add to it even if I have to add the date of the new comments myself. I like Notebook a lot, and would give it a 4.5 if I could

god tier app

i have used Notebook for 5 years now for writing, diary style entries, lists, reminders and anything else i feel like typing. despite my friends urging me to switch to google docs for more features, i can’t bring myself to write anywhere but here. that said, Notebook can be a pain sometimes. i’m not sure if this is still an issue, but a long time ago if a document got too long, it would crash upon opening it. i’m pretty sure this is fixed now though. i’m writing something very long right now, it’s probably at 15k words, and getting down to the bottom of it to write is a pain since i just have to swipe over and over. overall, not the best app for writing, but very good for diary/journal purposes. also, it has a password lock! for me, someone with privacy and trust issues, this is very useful. you can also configure it to only require a password after a certain amount of time has passed outside of Notebook , so you can google something and come back without using the password.

in conclusion, all hail Notebook and i hope the creator is having a great day. your app has been with me through 3 phones bro

So helpful, especially with my older brother

Notebook is super helpful for me, I tried locking diaries, voice password diaries, and just straight up hidden Notebooks, no matter what my older brother would always find them read them and then write random crap in them, he’d fill up all the pages, this is so helpful, because first of all my brother shouldn’t be messing with my phone, second of all Notebook has passwords in it that are not keys or voice recognition, and number passwords take a lot longer to guess than other kinds of passwords. Thank you so much for this super helpful app! I am in love with it!
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Great App

I was looking for a super simple, uncluttered note taking app for journaling. And I LOVE the simplicity of Notebook. Great practicality, and usability (although I’ve only had it for one day so far).

My only complaint is I don’t like that there’s a “viewing mode” and “edit mode” with entry pages. Reason being is when I’m switching between apps (“Safari and “this app” app) to copy & paste text from articles/inspiring quotes, the this app app keeps reverting back to view mode. It’s kinda a nuisance because it’s an unnecessary extra step. Example, “Google Keep” app once you’re in the middle of editing your notes/adding text and you switch through different apps, it won’t default back to view mode. You can just keep on editing away :)

Overall, great app. Opportunity for improvement.

Love this app!

I love Notebook not only because the price was right at $1.99, which is what I paid the other day, but because it is simple enough to use and is the best for my particular needs.

I gave it four stars because even though it’s the best for my needs, there is one feature that I would like to see in updates of Notebook: I would like to remove the preview feature when looking at a list of the various notes that I’ve made. If I have a title of the note, I would like that to be the only indication as to what the note is about. I don’t want to see a small bit of what I wrote in the list view.

I will update my review to five stars if this feature that I’m requesting gets added to the product.

Would give 5 stars but...

This is really a well-designed app in its simplicity and functionality. But, it’s been over two years since the last update and there are just a couple of features it’s missing that the designer should consider adding if it won’t take away from how it feels now:

As others have noted, you can’t insert photos.

Second, you can only print, email, etc. one note at a time. It would be really great if you could send an entire year, or the whole this app to a pdf or Word file. Or even just a text file.

Third, it is not available on my iPad mini, which is my preferred writing tool. I would love to be able to switch between my phone and my iPad, maybe by saving my files to Dropbox as I do with my Scrivener files.

All that said, it is a beautifully designed this app app. I haven’t found anything else that looks and feels as natural as this one. As a writer I would use this a whole lot more if the above were available. But for now I will continue journaling on Scrivener, though it is a little more cumbersome creating new notes and formatting them consistently.

Works wonderfully

I write and draw webtoons and when writing my story it goes a lot faster with typing but it gets embarrassing when your friends come across papers that talk about your web toons also your hand gets cramped from writing story lines plus typing goes a lot faster than writing also I like that you can have a lock function to keep snoopers away from the writing because honestly I don’t want any body to know I do webtoons unless they are a read cause it gets awkward faster than you would think also I kinda like how you can flip through pages like a book

Really good but need dark mode

Notebook is amazing. Its easy to use. I love the turning the page animation, it adds so much in my opinion. Notebook has never crashed and lost my files yet(and I have had it for 8 months) and when I switched phones, it carried over all my data. The ability to switch the dates to make sure everything stays on its own page is very useful.
One thing Notebook desperately needs is a dark mode. I write most of my notes at night and even on my lowest brightness setting it still hurts my eyes. So many other apps have a dark mode and I feel this one needs it as well. If Notebook can add a dark mode it would make it perfect.

Super Secure!

Notebook is very secure. The password works and one other feature I noticed is that when you go to kill Notebook (by double clicking the home button) Notebook automatically goes to a blank screen so you can't see entries even from the control center. That's one thing I always worry about, if I go into an app will it show an old version of a last session while it initially loads up. Notebook has it handled.
Notebook itself is just a simple journaling tool.
One thing I would like to see is the ability to create a decoy page. This would be good in a situation where someone will not stop bothering you about opening Notebook and seeing all of your personal entries.
However this isn't major and doesn't take away from Notebook .
It may be because I have such an old phone but sometimes when I am typing on Notebook , the line I'm typing on goes wonky and my keyboard goes above it so that I can't see what I'm writing. To fix that you have to leave the current entry and go back.
All in all it's a great app!

Good app but..

I really like Notebook and use it on a daily basis but I’d really like the option to save my entries to be cloud based or to where I can create an account to save my entries..just in case something happens to my phone or I get a new one, etc..
I’ve been journaling for years and i’m scared to get a new phone now.
I also notice that everyone has been complaining for years about needing an option to create an account and NO ONE is making any useful updates pertaining to this. I don’t understand.
I wish there was a way to transfer my entries to another app so I just use another 😕 this is kinda useless now.

Pretty good! Password actually works!!!

I really like Notebook because you can add in dates and type in to it, pretty much do whatever you think of. Also my absolute favorite thing about Notebook is the password because it always works even if you don’t clear out Notebook . I have been looking for an app that the password actually works because what if I have something I don’t want people to know? A password. Most apps don’t actually work with the password. This one does. So if you are reading these and wondering if you should get Notebook , the answer is yes you should. I rate five stars because of the password.

Confusing organization

Well I thought I really liked this for it’s simplicity. But the manner in which entries are organized is just too convoluted. If you make multiple entries per day, they are grouped into the day you enter them. But you can’t select the individual entry. Rather, it seems you click on the day and the first entry pops up. Then uou swipe or tap for the next entry. It should work in this manner...you click on the day. And then you should be able to click on the aporiate entry for that day. I ended up pasting text from my notes app into the wrong entry Cassie the wing entry was open due to this convoluted ness. Thankfully I started out logging mine tires into the bite app so I have a backup. So...the search is one for a better password or face I’d protected journal.

Easy to use

I'm taking care of a loved one and needed somewhere to keep track of info from dr appointments and such without clogging up Notes which I use for personal stuff. I tried another note taking app but got so frustrated because it wants to sort notes by their title but doesn't put them in correct numerical order if I date them. So I decided to try a journal and this is perfect! I was able to go in and create entries and backdate them and they're all in chronological order. I like being able to swipe through the pages when I'm looking for a specific entry!

It was a good app, but I have a few suggestions.

I will be grading by categories, so this’ll be kinda long.

First impression:
-Images
Cover image is simple and gets the point across, description images are good as well. 5/5
-Description
Long and descriptive, as well as convincing. It was a little wordy though. 4/5

Opening Notebook :
-Welcoming
It opened to an entry that gave me a tutorial of how to use Notebook , which I appreciated. I was quickly able to find out how to navigate Notebook because of how obvious it was, which was nice as well. 5/5
-Using Notebook
It was a little confusing. Some things I did not know how to do, like set a password, until I figured it out myself. 3/5

Suggestions:
•Being able to add images would be nice
•Longer password/other password options would be nice as well.
3/5 for the features as of right now.

Overall:
First impression- 4.5/5
Opening/using Notebook - 4/5
Features(as of now)-3/5
My overall rating issssss... 3.5/5 I will put it as 4 because we can’t put half stars.

This is great

I love Notebook I had it before and didn’t use it often after my phone Broke and I got a new one I re-downloaded it and I love it. It can keep your secrets that you don’t want anyone to know. I always feel that a diary that you would hand write in is to easy to find. You could get the diary’s with the passwords but that costs money this is free and you can add a password. I use Notebook almost everyday. Another thing is that it keeps dates for you. So if you were to go back you would know the exact date that you wrote it. It keeps the time to. I rate Notebook 4 stars because an app can always get better and nothing is perfect.

Wonderful app to keep my thoughts

I love Notebook. It is a life saver as I use it daily as I write my letters to God daily. Notebook makes it possible for me to get thoughts good and bad out my head and it allows me to think before I speak. Notebook helps me to remain calm and under control all day and keeps me from being so hastily reactive. But by jotting my thoughts down constantly I am more responsive and calm through out the day. Notebook is my accountability partner in life. I love Notebook

The only flaw is that I can’t continue and pick up my notes on other devices.

Great! Highly recommended!

I absolutely love Notebook! The user interface is smooth. I'm able to start it up as soon as I need to, which allows me to make journal entries verily easily.

I downloaded Notebook, a few hours before my wife gave birth to our daughter. It is a great way for me to document my experiences into parenthood. I love it. My wife enjoys reading my entries.

My only request would be for a way to maybe export my journal via email or something, so I can eventually make a hard copy for my wife and I to read; and maybe even for my daughter when she gets old enough.

Terrible update doesn’t let you change the time anymore.

I use Notebook to put my medicine in. When I forget to put in I could always go back and put my finger on the line of the medicine i took time after I’ve selected the medicine that I have already put in I could put my finger on the time and it would let me change the time to the correct time. Now I do that it’s blank I cannot change the time so I cannot keep an accurate account the medicines I have taken this was a great app five stars I would’ve even given it a 10 now it’s no longer an app that I can use for my medication. It was the best one I have ever found. This just happened after the new update. I have an 8 plus phone. I have had Notebook for years. I could bring it up at the Doctors office and show them all the medicine I had taken, even print it out. I now will have to find a new one Sooo disappointed. I hope this is an error in your update and it will be corrected. I should never have updated this. I find most updates only make the apples worst. You don’t seem to follow through to check that everything is done correctly and made better before you update. Sooooooo upset and disappointed.

Like it but it Could be improved

I love this easy to use journal. I love the password. I love the separating time stamps. I love how organized it is HOWEVER Notebook could be improved if It had a section within a section, as in ; I think I should be able to make multiple journal entries on the same day, but in different sections because they were of different topics. Does that make sense?

Like what if on march 20 I wanted to write about my day, relationships, school , and work, but I didn't want it grouped all on one Long message. I think Notebook could improve by having multiple ways to organize entries , like by topic instead of date.

Simple note keeping app

Notebook works as advertised. It is a remarkably simple note taking app. I have found it to work quite well with apples accessibility software also. The single largest demerit that I would have to give Notebook is the fact that it does not utilize touch ID to possibly protect notes. In the case of someone using it as a journal, which I do myself, that feature would be extremely helpful. I attempted to set up a passcode, but was unable to really make much use of it or even understand how it was supposed to be implemented. Other than that however, Notebook is, as I said above, a wonderfully good app for doing simple notetaking.

One suggestion

Love Notebook. Would love it way more if there was a way to create an account using an email and password so that we can access this on more than one device. I had to reset my phone & unbeknownst to me my phone hadn't backed up in four days. Thus, four days of my diary are missing. They were four of the days that I really wrote a lot and wanted to remember distinctly. Now, I don't have them or even remember half of what I wrote. That bums me out. If we were able to create accounts I could've just logged in and all of my entries would still have been there. Other than that I love it.

I LOVE THIS APP

I LOVE Notebook!! This is the only thing I have ever written a review for but I just felt like the world needed to know how great Notebook is!! I was looking for a way to keep a journal on my phone and this is the way to do it! It locks it organizes all your journals by year and by day it’s easy to send an entry/print an entry. I’ve been keeping a journal on Notebook for 4 years and I decided it would be horrible if my phone broke and I lost all my entries and with one click of a button i was able to email ALL my entries to myself (like 600 entries). Notebook is easy and organized and free and it locks get it!!!!!

By

So far so good

I really like the simplicity of this this app I like the record my thoughts first thing in the morning however I skip the day and was not able apparently to go back to the day I messed and log it as such that would be a great fix because sometimes I am not consistent. I like the idea of being able to print these out and put them in a different medium like another review were suggested but I like the simplicity of her all maybe a search feature is helpful if I do this for years I’m gonna go back and try to find something but so far so good thank you for making this
