Just would like to see one small feature 🙏

Hi there, I have a very secure randomly-generated password for my account, however I’m not able to paste it from my password manager into WebsterBank’s login form. I believe this is actually a hindrance to my overall security because it pressures me to engage in less secure login mechanisms like Touch ID or the “Save ID” toggle (which I’d prefer was not switched on by default because i have to remember to switch it off every time I go to log in). The alternative is to write down my account password somewhere in cleartext so I can just take a look at that and type it in manually when I need to log in, which is both inconvenient and unsafe itself (and the high complexity of the password makes it very difficult to remember by design).

Anyway, if it that pasting functionality was introduced I’d be very happy indeed, and 100% would change this to a 5 star review, because other than this I have no issues with WebsterBank and think it’s totally fine.

I am doing this for the first time so

Online sign up terrible

I have tried to get online for months. Call wait 30mins then nothing. Second time waited longer told it should work and had wrong version of app. Still couldn’t get online emailed support 6 months ago never got an email reply. Again today on a very long hold. Guess it’s time to go to another bank. Service at Webster is by far the worst I have experienced. Created login and all it says are credentials cannot be validated. The you call and get a different explanation each time. It should not be this hard or take so long to get a live person. How about no reply from previous email.

Garbage!!!

WebsterBank worked for a short time and then refused to let me log back in. I had problems over a year ago and had to uninstall and reinstall WebsterBank for it to work again. I also had to change my password in order to get back in. However, it no longer allows me to log in and instead tells me to call a phone number if the problem persists. How about fixing this garbage app??? Also, I find it mighty suspicious that it somehow has a rating of over 4 stars when it doesn't even work and so many people have complained about that. Paying for fake raving reviews, are we?

If I have to call to reset the password one more time!!!!

Garbage! Every few months the password resets on my phone and won’t take the login in from my fingerprint. Each time this happens and I don’t have access to all 3 security questions I have to call make a 10 minute call to reset it. This last time I called “Mike” took all my sensitive personal information then told me to reset my phone because the fix wouldn’t take until I did. Well I did and WebsterBank won’t let me reset the password. Im going to call again but as soon as my bills are cleared I’m changing banks. This is a huge waste of time.

Log in issues

Everyday i have to reset my password. I even gave Face ID set up and it doesn’t work. I then try logging in that doesn’t work so i have to reset the password every time i want to log on. I’ve deleted WebsterBank , cleared history and cache, called the bank IT department nothing fixes this. It’s super annoying and I’m about to pull my account and go to another bank. This has been going on for months with no fix. I have an iPhone 12. There are no updates for sterling national banking mobile.

Mobile deposits

WebsterBank has a hard time with mobile deposits. Very often it asks me to retake photos of my checks and then still can’t make the deposit. That means I have to drive 2 towns over to visit the bank in person. There used to be a Sterling in Nyack but they closed it. Not convenient at all. May have to switch banks if you can’t fix WebsterBank .

Constantly locks me out of my account

I am constantly locked out of my account because of WebsterBank . I have Face ID set up, yet I will randomly be blocked from getting into my account and forced to call and talk to a representative to get back into my account and access my accounts. This happens CONSTANTLY. It is absolutely infuriating and makes me want to close my account at this bank because it happens seemingly once a month or every couple months and is an enormous pain.

The absolute worst app

WebsterBank rarely works because it’s always down or simply can not validate your credentials. It’s extremely annoying and I think it’s ridiculous that you are forced to call the bank but the bank is closed because they’re not a 24-7 type bank. What are you supposed to do when it is an urgent crisis or fraud concern? Nothing! Going to another bank that actually cares about there customers because Sterling does not!!!

is it just me?

I don’t know if I’m the only one having this issue, but when I try to open WebsterBank I’m told that there’s an “Error”. I have to close WebsterBank and reopen to get to the homepage. After this all I have to do is sign in, but it’s very annoying to have to open, close, and reopen every time. Please fix this!!

I’m switching banks because of this app

What a garbage app. I was part of Astoria bank before they were bought out by Sterling. Astoria banks app was pretty decent, nothing crazy but everything worked. Sterlings app keeps having issues either with making deposits, using Zelle, checking balances, etc. Nothing on WebsterBank works when I need it. I’m literally changing banks simply because I can’t bank with WebsterBank.

Terrible

I opened an account over a month ago. After downloading WebsterBank , IPut all of my information in and it kept telling me error. I have tried several times to use mobile banking with Sterling. The phone number they give you for help gives me a 35 minute wait every time I call. It’s truly unacceptable and needs to be fixed, I will change my bank if I cannot Bank Moble.

Worse bank on this planet!

This is the WORSE bank on this planet. People at the bank are not nice or helpful. I am 75 yrs old and almost every 2 weeks my personal bank app does not work. It’s very fraustrating. I have to change banks. You don’t see the same people at the banks whenever you go in so I think they too are leaving. This is the worse bank please don’t ever think of joining.

Horrible

Every single time I try to get on WebsterBank there’s an issue. Says there’s an error of some sort and I have to call customer service. I’m just trying to deposit a check. It shouldn’t be this difficult. Most of the time I just skip WebsterBank and go to the bank which is so inconvenient and frustrating. It’s 2021, Sterling. Step it up or we’re all going to Chase.

When trying to make an external transfer, app says “Attention We are unable to process your request at this time. Please try again later “. It ALWAYS says this. Later never comes. I must use full browser site to do anything but see my balance. On a smartphone, the browser web site is very difficult to navigate and has no mobile version. D minus for WebsterBank .

Flawed Update

Like many others, I couldn’t get past the homepage on WebsterBank since the update last week. I took the advice of another reviewer and temporarily turned off the WiFi and was then able to use it. Turned back on WiFi and couldn’t. Very strange. So until they fix WebsterBank I’ll have to do so using cellular data.

I find SNB People have given me the most personalized attention any bank I’ve ever been with. I’m very glad I switched to them.

Inconvenience

I find on weekends mostly, WebsterBank does not work and asked for my information to be re-entered. When making a deposit through WebsterBank it questions the amount when the amount is correct. Can be very frustrating at times.

Bad service

WebsterBank hasn’t worked for five days. When I call a local branch they say they have no way of notifying the IT department. I tried calling online banking and the wait is over 30min. I have even deleted WebsterBank , and downloaded a new one, but nothing happens. This bank stinks ever since they switched from Astoria. It’s always some song and dance. Terrible.

Transferring to a new App

Somehow, WebsterBank has outdone the old one. In transferring over to this one after retiring the previous app I’ve experienced: repeating the login process three times, multiple occasions of just not being able to check my balance, the balance being wildly incorrect and not showing any up to date info, and lastly, the inability to make purchases. And I’ve done the math, I know I have money, yet somehow WebsterBank says I have more than what I actually do and no money all at the same time. This bank has been nothing but trouble since day 1 and this is the last straw for me.

Logging on

I wasn’t aware they were moving apps, and my issue is logging in. As my credentials were correct and everything …I’ve tried resetting my password but apparently my account is under a different number. I’ve tried email and I never got the email. This is just like the M&T bank, they had so many issues, I’m going to go to my bank in person to see if they can help.

New App transition a disaster

Good bank, poor planning. Can’t even get in. They force you to set up security questions and 2 factor but there isn’t even a place to put your phone number in for 2 factor setup. Constant validation errors. Now I have to take a bunch of time from my day to call them to resolve. Poor.

Simplistic interface but lacking

The interface is incredibly simple. There are VERY limited actions of what you can do using WebsterBank .

What I find annoying with it being 2023….I can’t see statements natively. I can’t see my interest rate natively. All this I have to go to the website. And with interest rates continually fluctuating I’d like to see where it’s at on a continual basis.

Took away access to my checking.

Only Webster will find a way to delete your debit card and leave you unable to access you funds. They are an incompetent financial institution. They merged with another bank and didn’t move my account info over. Leaving me in a very bad spot. They continually lied about what the problem was and told me it was on my end for over two hours.

Worst Idea Ever.

This merger and creation of a "new app" was the worst decision Webster could have made. WebsterBank is barely functional. It is slow, will not let most people into their accounts, shows false balances, is continuously glitching, etc.. The promise of new features was enticing but, most do not even work and all of the unnecessary buttons make WebsterBank confusing and hard to navigate. This merger and app alongside the way this entire situation has been handled is enough for me to consider leaving Webster altogether. If you're thinking about opening an account — DON'T. They have seriously gone downhill and are prioritizing money over their customers.

No Balance Push Notif’s

I’ve never liked this bank since day one. Old app was fine. This new forces you to accept their terms in order to access your OWN money and account. No access if you decline… should’ve let people get around this at least during this new app launch. Now new fee’s on top regular services. My main issue is no balance change notifications (my own way of knowing my bills were actually deducted and it being my own account security). The only alerts to set up are for “app news”… I’ll be closing accounts soon so i’d suggest others do the same.

This is the worst online experience I’ve ever had .thanks fully my money sits at a decent bank. I have no option but to transfer my monthly mortgage to Webster ever month. Horrible App

I’m not sure what was the reason for a whole new all instead of updating the current one we had. Not only did I have to download a new app, once I downloaded it i noticed one of my accounts wasn’t showing on WebsterBank or website. Of course I called and was on the phone for 1hour only to be disconnected with who ever was trying to help me. I repeated my self about a 100 times stating that both WebsterBank and the website are missing one of my accounts the person helping wasn’t useful and now have to waist more time going to the bank to fix the problem. By the way depositing checks on the new App unbelievably frustrating.

New app is broken

The old app was basic but at least it worked. First check I tried to deposit using the new app, I got an approval message everything looked good, and now a day later the bank has no record of the deposit whatsoever. It’s not a pending transaction, it’s just completely gone.

Tried to make another deposit and I got an error saying I’m trying to exceed the maximum cumulative daily deposit amount. So I just can’t pay my mortgage I guess.

Don’t use this until they work the bugs out. Unfortunately they already killed the old app.

Login Loop

Fored to update to this new yellow app and I get caught in a loop to add profile information. Hit save, says details have been saved successfully, hit continue and it logs me off. Do the same thing get the same result. If I hit cancel as I’ve already saved the info, it logs me off. Please test your apps before releasing them and making me update to an app that does not work. This has been a huge waste of my time.

Zero stars probably changing banks

New app is a horrible my checking account was missing took 3 days to get it back .. was calm and patient because I get it new technology can have glitches……now my mom says my account is showing on her app. When she called they insisted it was hers and now a manager has to call her back… excuse me what? She is not a joint account holder we do not have the same address and it’s my name on my account along with my name being on many of the withdrawals …...thankfully it’s my own mother but what if it were a stranger or someone who takes advantage now I have to do fraud alerts and check to make sure my account isn’t magically drained because it is also under someone else name in addition to my moms and they have full access to my information ! I literally contemplating taking legal action this is insane! It’s is a huge violation problem I’m not one to call people out on error but this is a HUGE error I have never had a problem with this bank and have been with them my entire banking life and it’s sad to have to feel like I need to change everything now

Horrible!! Why the change?

Why did Webster have to revamp the mobile app? First of all, it’s dark in black and white with no color. Everything listed in the list of the checking account had the name of the merchant. For pending transactions, unless you keep track of your transactions, you won’t know what is what. I had to change my password to something really long. I’m constantly having to sign back in. That’s very annoying when I have to do my bills and I’m looking here and there and I have to keep signing in. The Zelle feature isn’t working correctly and no one has been able to help me. I’m very frustrated and angry. I don’t like this mobile banking app at all. You can’t look up old statements or anything. Awful app.

Terrible Transition

If I could give 0 stars I would. The new app is terrible- difficult to navigate & every transaction is always “pending” or on “hold” for what reason exactly since more than sufficient funds are in my account?
I never know what is going on with my accounts!
I have been a Webster customer since it was First Federal Savings & have been a loyal customer for 50yrs. Now of course a new owner ruins an excellent bank just as all new owners seem to do with any acquisition!
In addition to WebsterBank being horrendous to use, I’ve also been informed that new fees will be added to my accounts for the bank to have the privilege of using MY money!!!
If fees are indeed added, that will be the last straw for me. I will take my money & business elsewhere! Please correct this horrible app, stop threatening to charge fees to customer accounts & bring our true Webster Bank back to it’s loyal customers. Perhaps Mr James Smith should return as CEO!!!

sometimes new isn’t better

since the conversion from the old app to the new the experience has been less than ideal. The details of payments are obscure to the point where i contacted the bank believing there was fraud on my account due to the merchant description being completely nonsensical. I liked the old app, i’m sure i’ll get use to this one but there is definitely room for improvement.

SMS notifications

transaction SMS notifications do not work as they should. the old version of WebsterBank sent me the exact amount that was charged at the time, WebsterBank sends (or not) messages without details at some odd times, never at the time when I'm doing transactions. Previously, it was immediately clear whether the transaction passed or not, and now you have to log in to your account every time and check in case of doubt. sometimes it's not possible because there are people around. earlier, you could just glance at the phone discreetly and it was known. I'm talking about this because I had several situations where the card reader jammed, I got an SMS from the bank with the transaction passed, and the seller wanted to make the transaction again because he thought it had failed. Only after showing him the SMS did he believe that one transaction had taken place. Notifications can now only be set from a given amount up or down, and as I mentioned before, they do not show the exact sum and Real time. it's frustrating.

Horrible app and website

WebsterBank won’t let you change your password. You will be able to go through all the process to change password but then stuck at a blank page with nothing. If you closes the page and tries to log into the account with the new password it will tells you that it doesn’t work. And the best part is when you go back to reset your password with the exact same new password you have in mind, it will tell you to not to use the same password agin! WOW THAT’S FUN. what’s even better is that if you tries to use the webpage, it will leads you to an error page if you tried to reset the password.

I have once and only once logged into WebsterBank about two weeks ago and I have already setup the faceID. All I wanted to do is to login to WebsterBank and check my balance and WebsterBank just bumped me out and ask for signing in and disabled faceID.

HORRIBLE APP, the old one was even better than this. Oh and let me tell you what, the initial setup from two weeks ago took me one full hour.

Worst system ever

First, this won’t download - I have to open it from WebsterBank store.
Second, sometimes when I log in I get someone else’s list of accounts and balances (!!!!) Sometimes it insists my login info is invalid. Then It works (same saved info) the next time.
Third, bill pay is soooo screwed up, with no notification to depositors of all the fun changes, and no actual help available (the same number for everything, no actual help, as they don’t know what you’re talking about half the time, and can’t change anything, and don’t get me started on offshoring help with banking issues…).
Mobile can no longer do bill pay; in order to use the web site for bill pay you have to remove adblocking AND third party data sharing…this for financial info….and they wait a week before processing (printing and snail mailing checks that had been next day electronic)…..and there’s more. None of this has been fixed, and no, they can’t explain it or fix it in the branch either.
I used to love Webster.

This is not a bank

It’s not a bank any more but a chicken coop. Horrible stupid customer service. I cable of answering any questions. I have a feeling someone runs this bank from their backyard. I am with this bank from the time it was Astoria over 20 years but can take it any more. Their stupid security questions. Constantly Locked out. I had a same password for 20 years and never a problem . Now I had to change it for no reason whatsoever. Security questions . Don’t star me there. The answer can’t be let than 4 letters. Come on. Then questions like the name of your swiveling. I don’t have a sibling . So then what. I need to make up one for the sake of this bank. Latest update doesn’t wowing iPad. Webster Bank downfall…

New Webster bank app is horrible. Transactions don’t load immediately like they used to. There are ZERO notifications of transactions on my account, and they take days to post. The old app was faster. New option of scanning paychecks is a total bust…I deposited a check via WebsterBank on a Saturday…it’s now Tuesday and the check STILL hasn’t been cleared. If I deposit a check on a Monday in the ATM it’s cleared by the next day..but apparently the new app wants to take over 72+ hours. Speaking of ATMs…they are horribly slow now…and whatever transaction I perform at the ATM…the receipt doesn’t show an account balance anymore. Honestly I’m thinking if making the transition to a better banking institution…considering there’s barely any Webster bank locations to begin with…Chase and Wells Fargo are looking better and better by the day. Zero stars for Webster

UPDATE YOUR APP PLEASE - NOT UPDATED FOR NEWEST IOS-Can’t even log into it

I have been a Webster customer for many years. I can’t even log into this new app. It tells me it does not support rooted or jailbroken devices. Mine is neither. I have had my phone for a couple years and purchased new directly through my wireless carrier. I’ve never had any issues like this. I just want to be able to do my mobile banking. So frustrating!

I’m coming back to update my review because upon further research it appears this is an issue with WebsterBank not being updated to support the newest IOS for iPhone. PLEASE UPDATE WebsterBank SO I CAN CONTINUE TO DO MY BANKING!

Worst app EVER!

Why in the world would you do this to your customers?!?! I can no longer see transactions until DAYS later! I can no longer get balance or transactions alerts! Oh and when you deposit a payroll check plan on waiting days for it to clear!
Is this Webster or Sterling Bank, I’m unclear on what your business name is!! Your previous app let me access all the above immediately, why would you go backwards instead of forwards? I hope you are reading all these reviews and realize the loyal customer base you are about to lose! ALL my accounts will be going to another bank that knows how to treat their customers! And when you call customer service you can barely understand what they are saying!! Just WHY?!?!?

Stuck in a login loop

The old app was fine and the desktop works ok too, but WebsterBank is a dumpster fire. I have changed my password, deleted and re-downloaded WebsterBank , called tech support FIVE times, bough a new phone in case that was the issue and I still can’t log in. I sign in and then it asks for my daytime phone. When I put that in it saves and I’m asked to “continue” and then I am brought back to the login screen. Endlessly. It is not the wrong user name or password because I intentionally typoed and it gives an error. I had my brother download WebsterBank and the exact same thing happens to him. We absolutely can’t be the only ones having this problem.
It’s really important because I am far from a Webster bank location so need WebsterBank to deposit checks. It’s been since August!

Bring back the old Webster app…

This is (currently) a horrible app. I expect improvements will come, but right now it’s worse than the old Webster app which wasn’t great, but at least similar to the website, so familiar.

Update Nov 2023 - So then apparently improvements are not coming. App has actually changed for the worse. Today the quick balance feature says I need to call them for some reason or other. What a joke! Why they decided to replace a workable app with this abomination is a mystery. I guess I’ll just have to find a new bank with an app that that actually works.

Locked out 3 days in a row/unknown security question

My account has been locked three days in a row. I called each day and the first two days Customer Service said I tried to open WebsterBank too many times and unlocked it without my changing my password. Today I asked for a text with a password reset link and got one, changed it, then was forced to get another verification text, then went through this same process on WebsterBank . It then asked me to answer a Security question I have never seen. I am increasingly worried that someone else is trying to access my account. I have been a customer for 35 years and learned along the way that the Developers actually read, respond and improve WebsterBank and online banking program, unlike Customer Service. I asked tonight to speak with a Supervisor and the Representative refused. FYI, I was locked out on an iPhone with a saved password which has been working with Face ID. Hence me being nervous about being locked out repeatedly. I noticed Face ID was disabled the first day and reset it only to be locked out again.

Not happy

This “new” app is absolutely horrible. The old app let me set alerts where I could set a low threshold on my checking. I have not been able to do that on WebsterBank at all. Also, I used to receive an instantaneous email receipt of mobile deposits and also approvals when they went through. Now it’s a guessing game as to whether or not the check was accepted because nothing shows up in my checking account for days on WebsterBank . I have to obsessively check my account to make sure checks are clearing and I’m not bouncing anything. It’s become a game of shuffling money back and forth to savings so I don’t incur overdraft fees. Tonight, a paycheck I deposited bounced on the payers end so my account was a negative balance! Again, I was checking my account multiple times to makes sure a different mobile deposit was cleared and luckily caught it! What gives Webster? I’ve been a customer for many many years now. This is the worst banking app I’ve had from any bank yet!
