Great app overall-lacking a very important feature

Overall this is one of the better tracking apps. The barcode scan works great, and if it doesn’t recognize something, will have you send a pic of the nutrition label so they can add it to their database

The feature to add your own recipes needs a lot of work. Adding foods by barcode works nicely, but the portion size does not show correctly on the confirmation screen. Typing in ingredients leaves you at the mercy of their software how a food is listed in their database. For example, if you enter “Beyond Sausage”, it only “sees” sausage and calculates for that. You need to know that the database calls it “plant-based sausage, hot Italian”. I can work around those issues though. However the biggest deficiency is that once you Save a recipe to your recipes, you can never go back to edit it. Say you make meatloaf with 85/15 burger one time, but 93/7 the next. Or you decide to skip the yogurt in your usual smoothie recipe. There is no way to go back to a saved recipe and tweak the ingredients. You have to re-enter the whole recipe again. This is a dealbreaker for me, since I never cook anything the same way twice.

Love the vitamin tracking for all my post surgery requirements. Make the recipe feature editable after saving and I’ll go back immediately

Should be great but...

Baritastic is overall very well made. It has all the features you need after bariatric surgery including water logging for free. It tracks macros well. It’s intuitive and easy to use. So why only 2 stars? A lot and I mean a lot of the nutrition information is wrong when you add a food that’s in the database. There’s also a lot that’s not there at all. To address this they have a very handy “request a product update” feature that allows you to take a picture of the product and the package. You also use the same thing for products not in the database. Okay you say so still why 2 stars? Well it appears these updates go to an unused folder somewhere at Baritastic developers offices because I’ve requested the same items updated many times over months now and nothing has been fixed. The new items I eat that are not in the database? Yeah they have never been added either. It’s really to bad. Baritastic would be great if they kept up to date with the proper nutrition. If you use it be careful. You could end up quite a ways off on your macros by just blindly trusting their data. If they ever start to update products again I’ll revise this review.

Best Fitness Tracking APP Out There

I LOVE Baritastic! After sleeve surgery, I thought I didn’t need a tracking app, but this app has changed my whole perspective! It has everything I need & a few cool extras! I’ve been able to increase my protein, water, & reduce carbs since using Baritastic. I get excited when I see my total weight (since surgery) drop every day. My DR & many of his patients are on the Keto Diet. I showed Baritastic to my DR & he LOVED it! He was using a very popular app created for fitness tracking. Not anymore. He now uses it & refers his patients to this app. Love that this app shows net carbs, journaling, & option for reports! Links to support group & creating reports. Not only is it incredibly useful, but it has a FUN interface. I look forward to entering my numbers. I realize that may sound weird, but it’s not a chore to enter your data - quick & seamless. Very interactive & extremely helpful to keep me on target! Try it out - it’s FREE! Thank you this app, you guys ROCK!

5 stars, full stop

I’ve used several logging apps, including paid apps. this app is absolutely the best I have used. User friendly, great support. It shows me what I need to see in order to be successful after my VSG surgery. Some things that make it TIP TOP: it shows protein first, that’s the biggest goal. There’s a place for vitamins and hydration. Timers for drinking and chewing. The feature for adding my own recipes is AMAZING, just incredibly useful. Love that I can use different measurements in logging. My calories are displayed prominently. I can log my physical weight, and look back at my progress. Those are just SOME things that make Baritastic the best. It’s pretty, easy to use, doesn’t glitch, it’s very encouraging. I’m super grateful to the developers for making such a useful tool.

Awesome app!

I have been using this for 14 days now and it is incredibly useful. I am an old school write on paper kind of person but have been making myself use this every day. Yes there are some fixes that could make entering things easier but this is a free app so I don't complain. I think that the developers will make adjustments they just need to know what they are. Coming out of VSG surgery there were many people and apps that try and help you through your journey, this one is a good one. You have to find what works for you. My journal entries have allowed me to post my BP and vitamins/medications in an easy format that my primary care Dr. and surgeon could read easily with a swipe of the screen versus having to go through a paper journal book. Thank you!

A few updates will make it fantastic

Baritastic is user friendly and links up nicely with my Bariatric nutritionist. There are a few tweaks in my opinion that would make us happy. (1) Nutritionists allow us to count protein shakes, Gatorade zero and herbal teas as water intake. This is standard across most Bariatric plans. I do not like to enter those as snacks and not see it under my water total. If it’s a protein shake then yes it is a meal and needs to be logged as that but also needs to be tallied in the water total at the same time. (2) It would be great to have Baritastic give us more recipes. There is a limited selection. Maybe import a lot more and make a library of them. More is better. I think these adjustments would make this a 5 star app. Seeing these improvements would definitely move my rating to 5/5. Having this on Apple Watch would be awesome.

I love it!

I'm updating my review. I've used Baritastic from the week of my surgery which was approximately 9 months ago. I love it all. It keeps track of my water intake, my weight, my food journal and even how I'm feeling for the day. It took me a few tries to figure out the recipe section but now I use it all the time! My only issue is the update, I has caused issues with my app. BUT I have contacted customer service and they are very prompt, very helpful and get the job done. I've tried other apps before and they all want you to update to premium and they aren't for the bariatric community. This is the best app you can use if you've had any type of surgery, whether you're pre-op, post op or maintaining. Just download it now, you won't regret it!

Valuable App But Lacks an Intuitive Experience

Baritastic has everything you need to help you succeed before and after bariatric surgery. For those of us going through the process, we know how difficult it can be to monitor our water, vitamins, food choices, chewing time, etc. Baritastic helps you to achieve all of these goals. BUT, Baritastic is not intuitive. The interface is not simple. It does not support learnability or memorability. It is not easy to accomplish basic tasks the first time you use it. If you don’t use Baritastic for a week or two, it is difficult to reestablish proficiency. The bottom line is that Baritastic is an extremely valuable tool to get you through all of the moving parts of the bariatric surgery process. But, I recommend you start using it well in advance of your surgery so that you can used to it.

The number 1 app for weight lose

All my life I never was concerned with my weight due to always getting good reports from my doctor except for my weight. Then finally I needed a hip replacement. Well my weight interferes with the surgery. Then I learned about Baritastic. Due to inactivity because of the bad hip it stoped me from any quick weight lose. But with Baritastic I did a 1500 calorie a day diet and the weight came off on an average of 10 lbs a month. If I was active my doctor told me it would probably double. Thanks to Baritastic surgery should be soon and if you need it try it you will never regret it.

Ps
Baritastic stopped me from having Bariatric surgery. Any dietician can give you the proper intake of protein, carbs, fat, sugar for this diet.

It’s actually pretty good (compared to similar apps)

I’ve used other similar apps before to track my nutritional intake, and Baritastic is by far one of my favorites the dates. The seamless implementation of voice to text to capture our meals into register them in Baritastic , makes the experience of using Baritastic very pleasant. In addition, there are a ton of other features to discover.

The only small complaint I have is that every time I enter an item for dinner for example, after I am done entering the item, it forces me to scroll down and find the dinner tab after each entry is entered. This is a small annoyance, but nothing to take away from the overall satisfaction with Baritastic.

Very helpful tool

I’m 16 days post-op and was weary of Baritastic to begin with. When I first looked at it I felt a bit overwhelmed. After a couple days I got the hang of it and realized it’s not that bad. In fact, inputting what I eat and drink isn’t as time consuming as I thought it would be. It’s a big help to be sure you’re consuming enough protein and water, and not consuming too much sugar, fat, etc. In my opinion, if you talked with a nutritionist about what you should be consuming each day, you could probably use Baritastic to help with weight loss, even if you haven’t had bariatric surgery. (There are even recipes for healthy eating.) It’s a free tool so why not download it and take a look?

Great Accountability Tool

I have been using Baritastic for 1 week. We are so “app” driven that I knew I didn’t have anything to lose by trying the this app app. Well, except for weight, hopefully! You don’t have to be a bariatric patient to utilize this great tool. There is a place to enter your goals for water, protein, carbs, fat and even more detailed such as net carbs and sugars. There’s a place to journal everyday if you want. Even a place to log your exercise, medicines/vitamins and even you bowel movements!! I gave it 5 stars. It helps hold me accountable to myself. I also enjoy the reminders it gives you to drink water. All these items are specified by you. It is very individualized. Try it. It’s a free app. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The BEST For Bariatric Patients!

I have tried other apps for weight loss purposes, but this app is the best out there for Bariatric patients. You can track weight and inches lost, which is so helpful when you’re losing weight rapidly; food, exercise, time your meals, remind yourself to eat/drink water/take vitamins. I loooove Baritastic. One of the best things is that it can be customized to fit your exact post-op AND pre-op plan, and your docs can see what you’re doing if you choose to set that up. Also, there is a this app group on Facebook (this app Social) that you can join and help as a support group, which is so helpful when you go through a major life change like this. Absolutely love it.

Fantastic Baritastic

Really appreciate the application after having a Gastric Bypass in May 2020. Helps me track everything I need for my weight loss journey from tracking and helping you reach out to others for support. There are a few places that are a little hard to use in Baritastic , but I’m finding I couldn’t live without Baritastic . I tried to use other apps but this is so tailored to WLS that it’s really the best. I also had a login issue and contacted support. I got immediate service and the issue was rectified quickly. If you are thinking about WLS or are anywhere in the process, Baritastic is for you.

Great app for tracking everything!

I found Baritastic through my sister. She had a procedure and found out about it. She shared with me. Even though I didn’t have surgery, I struggle with food addictions like many people who are overweight. I have tried other apps in the past but love this one! It is very user friendly and gives you all the macros built in. Also very easy to scan the barcode and voila! Everything is there.
I have been using Baritastic for 20 days. Down 12 lbs already and losing more. It is great to have the reminders to drink water, have a snack, etc. I can’t say enough good. It is my fav!

Nicely done!

I have only been using Baritastic for a short time, but I find it to be very user-friendly. So far, what I have found is that using the voice feature doesn’t recognize brand names, that could be one improvement that I see should happen. Otherwise, Baritastic gives those of us who have had bariatric surgery a quick look at what’s the most important. Getting in enough protein while not taking in many calories. I love that you can customize the look based on your own story. I am three years out from bariatric surgery and was using a different tracker which didn’t look at my calories very accurately or appropriately for my surgery. This is much more realistic and I love it!

Love the app!

I’ve been using Baritastic for two weeks now on my bariatric journey. Baritastic is awesome for tracking the things such as water, protein, fat, carbs, etc. I like how you can set reminders to drink water or take vitamins. My suggestion is to allow further personalization on the dashboard on the things the user would like to see. Such as remove the things you don’t want to see and add what’s important to you.
Not sure if this is bug related or why this happens but if you have the widget added to your iPhone, it seems as though the widget doesn’t update the next morning (by resetting all of your numbers to ‘0’). You have to actually go to Baritastic then the numbers will reset to ‘0’.

Fantastic

I love Baritastic. Been using for 3 days and have not had any issues. This is so much better than writing it down and I can have my doctor monitor me just by handing him my phone. Don't have to worry about losing my diary or forgetting it at home. Who isn't without their phone 24/7. It scans every barcode enters all foods and searches all foods. I haven't tried the restaurant search as I'm trying to avoid restaurants at the moment. Just be careful as it will count protein on beans and my pre surgery food list, list them as starchy vegetables. I would highly recommend Baritastic to anyone considering this app surgery or just wants to be more mindful about what they eat and count calories.

Used to be great

I’ve used Baritastic for over a year to track my journey since surgery. The most recent redesign and update is not as user friendly and the food search is suddenly MUCH more limited. For simple things like searching for applesauce it only gives a sweetened option, I have unsweetened Motts. It used to be in Baritastic but now it’s not. Frustrating when you pack a single serve in your lunch at work but then can’t track it because there is no barcode on the container. In my “recent” foods it is showing me items I ate 10 months ago but not what I logger yesterday or last week. Hopefully it gets fixed in a future update because I can easily track what I eat in other apps that allow me to actually search, too bad they’ve ruined a great thing.

An app for Bariatric patients

This is a Wonderful app for people who are preparing for bariatric surgery, who have just had the surgery, and those who are maintaining. Baritastic provided a pre-op checklist and a post-op checklist. It’s flexible enough to modify and simple enough to use on a daily basis.

I really like that you can add reminders and connect to other apps like the apple HealthKit and the Fitbit Scale.

My only regret is the my medical staff doesn’t use Baritastic to make a more customized experience, track my progress, and provide feedback based on my results. I think bariatric staff and nutritionists/dieticians should adopt Baritastic for their patients.

Great app but needs a couple tweaks

So first off I love Baritastic! It has been great in helping myself to keep myself accountable. I had surgery ten years ago and noticed I was starting to put some weight back on. Baritastic has been great at helping me to recognize old bad habits starting to creep up on me.

The one issue I have is with the formula used to calculate calories. For example I made the fluffiest scrambled eggs that they have listed in the recipes. This is four eggs and cheese. It is 153 calories in Baritastic . The next day I made the exact same thing only with three eggs instead of four. It was listed as 273 calories.

Additionally the three eggs have more protein, sugar and carbs than the four egg version. This is the exact same ingredients as the four egg just missing one egg. If anything it should have less not more.

Basic food like beef and cauliflower can’t be found. Makes it difficult to add recipes if the app can find the ingredients

App hasn’t worked since yesterday. It is not my Wi-Fi! Many others I know say it isn’t working for them either.

Sharon Thibodaux   3 years ago

Haven’t been able to get it OT he app for the past 3 hours. My wifi is not the issue. I deleted the app and downloaded it again and it still won’t allow me to use it. It never gets past the first screen of the app when you pull it up.

Since the most recent update reminders are no longer working. In fact every time I try to tap on that in the app it crashes and restarts
