Songs stop when trying to play music

My music library is duplicating songs as it syncs. Is it possible to stop copying songs that already exist?

I'm a new user. I connected EM from myiPhone to my laptop via my wireless network one time. EM then lost the connection to the laptop and I cannot re-establish it. I have rebooted the phone and the laptop. I have stopped and started the WiFi connection on both devices. What else might be the issue?
