About Cisco Proximity

Once downloaded to your smartphone or tablet, the Cisco Proximity app allows automatic pairing of the mobile device with Cisco room-based video collaboration endpoints when they come within close range.

In addition, Cisco Proximity allows basic call control from your mobile device, like searching the directory or typing video addresses (URIs) directly in the app and starting/ending a call.

Cisco Proximity supports Cisco SX10, SX20, SX80, MX200 G2, MX300 G2, MX700 and MX800 endpoints, running Collaboration Endpoint Software 8.0 or later.

Cisco Intelligent Proximity is an innovative feature set that lets you engage in richer collaboration experiences through your mobile devices.

Content shared on the video endpoints can then be viewed on your mobile device, optimizing the real estate of the endpoints for video participants.

By tapping ‘Install’ you agree to install Cisco Proximity and future software updates, and you accept the license agreement and privacy statement linked below.

You will also have the flexibility to save shared content from your mobile device, such as select PowerPoint slides, as well as review previously-shared content without interrupting the presenter.

Worse Than Completely Useless

Picture this: You walk into the conference room for your big presentation, open the cover to your iPad Pro, connect with the Cisco system in the room, and use your iPad to share dynamic content controlled by your Apple Pencil. You switch apps into OneNote as your audience asks you questions and they see you writing their questions down. You are definitely going places, and have earned the respect of the room.

Well, you can’t do anything like that with CiscoProximity. All you can do is view the room screen on your iPad, or use it like the control panel in the room.

Until I can share my ipad, it’s useless

Proximity allows me to not mess with wires on my Mac to display my screen to the room. Apparently it works that way on Windows. So why not the same functionality on my iPad Pro? I’m surprised, because Cisco Webex has done a great job with iPad support. I’m hoping this feature is added soon, because at the moment - I have to agree with others: What’s the point of CiscoProximity? It only pairs if you’re in the same room (it uses ultrasound to find Cisco systems).

No Off and on button

It will be great if the client have on and off button. It runs in the background

Less functionality than a remote control

Like others have said, it’s a pretty useless app.
Can’t share any content from iPad/iPhone. You can initiate, answer, and control calls on the endpoint. That’s pretty much it. Less than what can be done with a Touch10.

Fail to See the Value

I can get a small version of the of the large projection in the same room? Proximity means I have to be very close. I can’t imagine sitting just outside the room for the “convenience” of viewing the shared visualizations on my phone. What am I missing?

Until I can share my iPhone, it’s useless

You can’t actually do anything interactive with this application. It would be great being able to present from an iPhone.

Unable to share from iPad

CiscoProximity is only a viewer for what is on the screen and has no way to present content.

Very Little Value Here

As the others have noted, not being able to share the mobile device screen via Proximity..........what is the point.

Pretty useless

CiscoProximity you would expect to behave like Proximity does on Windows, etc. But it doesn’t, it is really just a viewer, not a controller. It should be labeled as such.

Doesn’t work

Doesn’t work and there hasn’t been an update for 2 years

Useful app but needs improvement

Initially had issues connecting but later versions fixed stability. For the endpoints that don't support touch panels (SX10s, etc.), this is a nice feature. Much better than the remote.
Could use more features similar to the touch panel, specifically camera control. We will keep using for sure.

Pretty cool feature!

As stated in a previous review Proximity works on endpoints running TV version 7.0 and above as long as you activate the feature on the endpoint.

System Config -> Search"byod" -> Turn mode to "on".

Can't wait to see more improvements to this feature. Only 4 stars because I can't search for Jabber Video users in CiscoProximity or control the layout.

Works great with my EX90

I'm able to pair, make calls and see the content of the EX90 on my iPhone and iPad. Also able to save to snapshots. I had to log into the EX90 web page - go to 'Configuration' -> 'System Configuration', then in the search field type 'byod'

The 'Mode' should be turned 'On'.

I'm running version TC7.0 on my EX90 - the site says to use TC7.1.

The phone and endpoint need to be on the same network, or at least routable over IP.

This app should integrate with phone's Contacts

It would be more useful if users can search a person from the phone Contacts and pick a number to call. Currently, the search is almost meaningless.

Awesome

So useful if you have a system that supports intelligent proximity CiscoProximity is a must!

0 setup
Easier than finding the remote
Handy for viewing the slides
