Consider Returning

For a $200 scale I expected a half-way thought out app that would get regular updates. AcaiaCoffee has been abandoned and is as functionally designed as the scale itself which has trouble responding to touch sometimes and as a coffee scale somehow can’t handle heat without an extra rubber mat. The on-boarding is long and tedious, the recording process is not intuitive, and AcaiaCoffee is handicapped if you don’t register and log in. At least the Bluetooth connection on launch is always reliable!

All I want in AcaiaCoffee is a way to configure settings to turn off beeps, change units, and perhaps remove/configure my scale’s modes to make it easier for me to tare, pour, and start a timer on the scale without launching AcaiaCoffee in the first place. The graphs and social suggestions could be nice but are definitely secondary.

I really want to love this scale since but at the moment it feels like a $200 scale under-designed for its coffee pour tracking potential. Watch someone new try to use it for the first time and you’ll find all you need to improve to make it a better experience.

better coffee with this app

I'm sorry people have trouble with AcaiaCoffee! For me, on my iPhone X, it works perfectly. And by timing pourovers optimized for various driippers, it helps me make notably better coffee. I've been making pourover coffee for quite awhile, following directions I and others have seen online, but AcaiaCoffee — paired with the scale — makes better coffee than I've made before.

It's true AcaiaCoffee could be better designed. Acaia might hook up with an app design expert, and fix what seem like immature, things that apps once did, but that now wouldn't be tolerated in apps that functioned in a commercial arena, and have competition for what they do (as this one doesn't).

One example, thst others have noticed. AcaiaCoffee will guide us through using a great variety of ways of making coffee, but it defaults to the Hario V60 dripper, which is always selected when AcaiaCoffee opens. Which is fine if you have a V60 and always use it, but if you always use something else, then you're forced to take a extra step each time you use AcaiaCoffee . Silly. And so easy for an app designer to fix!

There are some other things, and it's also true, as people have said here, that the scale seems baffling at first.

But, bottom line — AcaiaCoffee works perfectly for me, and helps me make better coffee. Never crashes, easy to use, never fails to connect via Bluetooth to the scale. So four stars, despite things Acaia should fix.

Needs user input for improvements

App is disappointing, and not aligned with very high quality of the scale. While it has potential, AcaiaCoffee is not very user friendly — it’s ok for very basic tracking, but there is tremendous room for improvement in user flow, features, and overall value and functionality. Simple elements that are common in most other apps and software we all use are missing here. Few examples: can’t easily repeat or copy a prior Print, visual layout (ex: some information doesn’t fully show when viewing a saved Print), field flexibility (ex: grind size should allow user to enter letters, numbers, etc. as needed), etc. There should be an easier way to view my own saved history than going to the feed. IMPORTANT: Developer should survey or interview a number of real users to identify missing pieces. Better yet, developer should include a cross-section of real users in the planning process for making the next phases of this app worthy of the scale, — something that helps users learn, experiment, track, and enjoy their favorite beverage much better.

App makes me regret buying this scale

The reason I bought this scale, instead of one 1/4 of the price, was for an easy to use app that would step me through the brewing process. AcaiaCoffee is poorly made and while it appears to get bug fixes, it is clearly ancient. It doesn’t scale to the full resolution of my phone. Instead of making AcaiaCoffee intuitive you scroll through a bunch of grainy low res images with instructions you’re supposed to remember as you’re brewing. Literally the entire value prop of the scale (there aren’t even instructions in the box) is AcaiaCoffee, and it is garbage.

Great Scale but App is Awful

I’ve had the scale a year now and I’ve gotten to the point where I just use the scale. Unfortunately, it’s expensive to use without the associated app.

AcaiaCoffee has so many problems and I was hoping that, after a year, it would have improved. The issues are too numerous to expound upon. But they include: regular freezing, unable to post on social media, AcaiaCoffee never quite fully loading, features not working correctly.

Beyond that, the brew guide in AcaiaCoffee is not always a great guide for proper brewing.

Very detailed, few flaws

I’ve been using AcaiaCoffee to track my recipes and it’s been great as a coffee diary! There are some glitches with the coffee bean search and creating new coffee bean profiles BUT the huge plus is that you can EXPORT all your data into a pdf. This is HUGE! Afterall, why would you want all your coffee info “stuck” inside an app?

great scale, terrible app

The scale works well, but there really is no point in using it without AcaiaCoffee . This update is so very frustrating. After so many months, the only real change the company has made to their app is adding the ability to use the user's own scale photograph, rather than the default one. Meanwhile, the scale doesn't work. The scale won't retain the ounces versus gram setting, among so many other frustrating things. What a shame.

Awesome Scale, Fun App!

First off, AcaiaCoffee is of course for the Acaia Coffee Scale - BUT, if you don’t have the scale you can still download AcaiaCoffee and see other people’s brew methods, which is pretty cool!

With all that being said, this scale and app are a lot of fun - really make the brew process quite interactive and pushes you to better your processes.

Needs work

AcaiaCoffee is slow to open. It first opens to a feed that takes time to download. It’s 6 am, I don’t care what other people are doing...I just want some coffee. I’d like it to open directly to the brewing pint page and actually remember my settings so I can get down to brewing. If later I want to explore other brewing methods I’ll look for that on AcaiaCoffee after I’m drinking my coffee.

Need some demos

I was very excited to get the pearl s scale, but I am wondering if it was money well spent. There just needs to be more instructions on how to maximize the scales abilities, but also the apps. I do not think I am using them to their maximum ability, so can I please get some help. On my scale app it says v60 but I am using a Chemex and Auropress, so how do I change this?

Just tried out and I’m very disappointed

The out-of-the-box experience is nowhere near reflective of the price point for the scale. AcaiaCoffee looks terrible on my iPhone 12 Pro Max and the connection process was very clunky. Please spend some serious time and energy on the overall user experience.

Simple and easy to use

AcaiaCoffee is a huge benefit in owning an Acaia scale. It’s easy to use and the remote scale is great when you can’t see the scales display.

App keeps crashing and isn’t updated for iPhone 7 or above

The apps keeps crashing and won’t reload have to delete it and download it again every time it crashes. I would love to see AcaiaCoffee updated for use with iPhone 7 and all iPhone with bigger screens.

Shameful

The iPhone X came out in 2017. AcaiaCoffee has not been built with support for it, which makes the keyboard look wrong and puts black bars on the top and bottom. How can you not be bothered to update your app for over three years? Apple should remove apps like this from AcaiaCoffee store.

By

Awesome product, lacking app

App interface is good, I just can’t use all of the timer features. Only show 4 of them on the scale view. Please let me access all of them or let me select which to display on the scale view!

Good for Brew Parameters; Incompatible with EKG+

AcaiaCoffee is really great with my Pearl Scale. It’s even useful when I don’t have my scale with me during travel. I am disappointed that AcaiaCoffee isn’t compatible with my Stagg EKG+. The only app that is compatible is only available on iPad, which I do not have.

Nice app

Nice app, has potential but needs work. For example, maybe for editing features for the pictures and some way to make the brewing method a default. For example, I use a kalita but it defaults to a v60, need to change that.

Scale requires app

Apps are known to back door cyber threats. So good to avoid. Acaia forces their customer to download their app to update software. Why a perfect product needs updating is beyond me but you’ll get locked out. Unlocking it is not obvious. Companies should not assume a person lives their life in apps.

Need Pour sound louder

Great compliment app to this amazing scale. Within the brewing print process, it would be most helpful to replace the sound to Pour to be much louder and annoying. I tend to get distracted and would love a bigger beep/ding/nudge to Pour.

By

Works great

Have no issues. Actually think it enhances the scale quite a bit

By

Usually unpleasant

Please fix the resolution. It looks horrible and doesn’t fit the screen properly.

By

Total garbage

Don’t bother!!! A complete afterthought to the scale itself.

By

UI needs updating

This scale is only as good as the application, and the application is poorly designed. Please update the UI, it’s 5 years obsolete.
