Failed receipt image scanning

Got at least one of business name, date, or amount wrong on 10 of 15 receipts. When date is imported wrong from receipt, you can’t tap to edit it. Workaround requires manually recreating expense then attaching image of receipt. It overwrites wrong date from receipt, but this time you can tap to edit it.

Additional annoyances:
• Bottom row of numbers keyboard for entering mileage or amount overlaps iOS home swipe indicator line at bottom of screen.
• UI for capturing, selecting, and uploading receipt images is substantially different depending on which order you perform actions.
• Can’t organize receipts into groups, so shared details like category and purpose have to be manually entered on every expense.
• Prompts for lack of location access every time you tap to edit business name of an expense, but doesn’t link to app’s page in the Settings app so that you can grant access.
• Start and end locations in mileage calculator disappear as soon as you finish entering them. Perhaps this has to do with lack of location access, but it doesn’t give any such indication.


Easiest way to expense on the go

The this app app is great for submitting my expenses while I’m out and about. I love using this for my travel expenses or days when I’m not in the office, because I can snap a photo of the receipt and expense it in the moment. I’m really bad at keeping slips of paper for a later time, so this is the best system for me to make a purchase and make sure I’m getting my reimbursement. While I have noticed not all the web features are on Abacus , it’s perfect for the main action of expensing.


Makes Expenses Easy

this app is really easy to use as someone that travels often. The mobile app is very simple, I just have to take a picture of my receipt and it will match it to my Amex transaction for me. Most of the time I just have to take a picture and the category will fill in for me and I only have to hit send.

Not sure if this is Abacus or my finance department, but I get paid back on this app very quickly and the funds direct deposit into my bank account. I love using this app.


Limited in annoying ways, untidy on iPhone X

Abacus looks great to start with, until you try using it in practice on an iPhone X. Although iPhone X support was supposedly added 3 months ago, the layout’s all wrong (it doesn’t pay attention to the areas at top and bottom of the screen that are reserved for iOS use, meaning ugly overlap and unhittable tap targets). Also, why can’t I create a new trip in Abacus ? For every expense report I create, I have to sign in to the web app first to create the necessary trips, before I can then select them on my phone. That gets old really quickly.


No more expense reports

I’ve struggled my entire career from having to sit down at my desk after a month of traveling, trying to sift through tons of receipts and accurately match them with expenses. Now, I can SEND as I go. No more saving these expenses to put into a report, I can send these in real time to my manager and get paid back so much faster. Love this app!!!


Getting there...

My company uses this app for expense management. It makes tracking and recording expenses easy. Abacus needs a little work, but there have been more updates recently then there’s been in the past two years. Favorite part is that once an expense is approved the money hits your account typically two days later.


Clean, elegant, simple

This is how you expect an app to work! My company has used this app for a little over a year and we love the functionality of the mobile app! I would have given more stars if I could have! Also, the support team is great, if you are in a pinch, ask for Perry!


Amazing Experience

I am in the trucking Industry and these guys are amazing. They help take care of my and my teammates’ Business in a timely and efficient manner. They also relayed the information precisely and explained everything slow for us to understand.


Worst tech support

Abacus is hit or miss and since it’s responsible for me getting my money back it’s a NO go.
The tech support is a total joke. Days without a response and always the same person, Syeda, who refuses to contact you and speak to you about issues and never fixes them. They want you to stop what your doing take photos, screen shots, and videos. Turbo scan is what I’ve been using in place of this app and it’s flawless.


5 stars for implementation!

this app implementation was wonderful!!! After a negative experience with another platform, we prioritized how important it was to partner with dedicated resources moving forward. For us, integrating corporate cards was new - For both accounting and card holders, but Lindsay was a rockstar in getting us setup!!


Love it!!

I’ve used a lot of different platforms in the past, and this app is by far the best! I’ve used it to submit my own expenses and also to approve other people’s expenses. Easy-to-use, gets your money back next day, and overall great modern interface!


Best expense management experience I could imagine!

Love that I can do everything I need to from my phone, as I incur the expenses. I’ve gotten paid back tens of thousands of dollars via this app and never given it a second thought! Would recommend to anyone.

Very Solid Platform

Probably the 3rd or 4th expense software I’ve used in my career and this one is definitely the best. Easy to use, and reimbursements happen very quickly which I love.


Super Simple

Just started using this as I joined a new company. Love not having to create an expense report and just send my expenses in when I have them - it kind of feels like venmo but for business


Good concept, horrible execution

The iOS app has *a lot* of bugs: 1 out of 3 times the categories will fail to load, 1 out of 10 times a photo you uploaded won’t automatically show up in receipts...the list goes on.

The concept of not submitting expense reports is great and simplifies expensing, but I really hate using Abacus .


Photos won’t upload

I use this for work. Scanning photos of receipts is usually a breeze. However it’s not wanting to upload for some reason.


Regularly fails to save expenses

Very frustrating. Regularly fails when trying to save a new expense - this has been an issue for months. I have the latest version on iPhone X. Trying to submit by app has wasted too much of my time so I’m just going to stop bothering with Abacus and just file via laptop.


Card Balance Unavailable

We can no longer see the card balance in Abacus . This has been very frustrating for my company.



Keeps telling me I can’t process a new expense because I do not have place and amount filled in. They are very much filled in. Useless with glitches that won’t let you process the basic functions of Abacus . Get a better more responsive development team (or provide a bigger budget so they can get their work done appropriately).



Going on months of having the decimal button be glitchy and not working half the time. Use the apple keyboard if you can't get it to work yourself.

Unintuitive app, go through 3 clicks just to get to the only purpose of this app, putting in an expense. You have to actively work to make an app this bad


Launches Black Screen

Unsure what the issue is but Abacus launches a blacked out screen when I open it - I have deleting and reinstalling as well as reaching out to support a couple of times and nothing seems to help.
It has been this way for over a year. Feels like Abacus needs to be revamped.
Otherwise fairly happy with the product but more AI suggestions would be nice.


Janky UX

It’s a great app for the most part but UX leaves a lot to be desired. Example: entering an expense and choosing Billable vs. Non-billable - the drop down touch target is small and the visual feedback leaves you wondering which option was actually chosen. Also not been able to find a record of past approved expenses - sometimes I get an email indicating approval, sometimes I don’t.


Poor website. Terrible app

Uploaded receipts from camera go into the ether. Regularly asked to reenter info you have already done. Manager and employee sections are unnecessarily split and confusing. Overall poorly designed and buggy


Can be better

It does what is supposed to do but has limitations. Only way to submit receipts is through pictures. Please add a way to search through files on my phone and add pdf’s. Also add the ability to add multiple pictures at the same time. Autocorrect doesn’t work while adding note to the receipt. Better tools for admins are needed to sort and approve expenses.
