The Flip app was working great on my Samsung phone until it didn't. The weird thing is it acts like it will work, but then it gets ready to load the app after signing in and you get a website that says return and nothing happens
My students and I are getting error messages when we try to log into Flip. It was working yesterday.
This used to be a great app that I used every semester in my online classes (when it was Flipgrid and even the first semester it switched to Flip - Fall 2022). This semester (Spring 2023), the format completely changed and it caused more headaches for me and my students than it's worth. I integrate it with Canvas and usually have students complete an assignment that allows them to record a video, then two students respond with video replies. Not only did students have tremendous difficulty getting the recording to work this semester (some the integration between Canvas and Flip not working unless students use Google Chrome rather than Safari and many seem to have Apple products), but there is now an option for students to comment on videos by writing rather than responding by video (like social media). This is *not* what they were supposed to do, but since it was a natural option, they gravitated toward it. The written responses do not show up in Speedgrader so I have to go searching for them and they don't match the grading rubric, etc. Plus, Flip no longer links to Speedgrader as efficiently as it did when it was Flipgrid (even though it claims to work this way). But, since the assignment was created in Canvas, and students cannot link to it through Canvas (given the issues described above), they try their own workarounds and email me for passwords and group codes, none of which apply when the Flip assignment is created in Canvas. I recognize this is wordy ... and like expresses my frustration. But, as I said, this was a great assignment for the 100+ fieldwork students I have each semester to connect with each other in an online class. Given this, I no longer trust it will work and will be looking for an alternative for next semester, which is disappointing, to say the least.
Some of my students are having issues uploading their video to Flipgrid. This issue has been happening for a month now. Since it only impacts some of my students, what would you suggest be done to fix this?
