PrivateWiFi is either riddled with bugs or is just poorly designed. It shuts itself off whenever the phone goes into sleep mode so you aren't "protected" when you re-open Safari or your email app. Other times you'll be greeted with an error message that says "The l2tp-vpn did not respond." Trying to uninstall it makes the phone freeze. I had to wipe the phone clean to get rid of it. Stunningly bad.

PrivateWiFi had worked adequately, but AOL discontinued the service. Now that it’s again supported by AOL, I have made countless attempts to reactivate. AOL customer support did not succeed, and never followed up. I no longer desire AOL, but will retain the service until I can archive my email history

I have to use the VPN, sometimes, that my work requires and as it is the iPad only seems to handle one VPN configuration, which can either be enabled, affording access to the network at work as well as the internet, or disabled, giving access only to the internet. So it isn't clear how PrivateWiFi can "install a few VPN settings" and allow me to use my work VPN settings. So the millions of us who have work VPN settings quite probably cannot use this.

I just added PrivateWiFi and I can’t get past the sign on screen. I put my email address like it ask. Then I get an error message saying that the password is invalid. I can’t get past this screen. I was never ask for a password. What is the fix for this issue?

At first PrivateWiFi was great, but lately it has not been working. When I try to open PrivateWiFi it exits back out and the VPN won’t turn on at all.

PrivateWiFi used to work well, but since having not been updated in 4 YEARS, it obviously hasn’t kept up with technology updates for the systems running it. Lately it has had a difficult time connecting with a server when on iPhone or iPad, and when/if ut does, it is randomly deactivated while running in the background without any notice. What good does that do? When running the version for computers, it never connects and just shows “error”.
Please update PrivateWiFi!!!

Worked great for about a week and then stopped. Email customer support, they got right back to me with some things to try. Still doesn't work.

PrivateWiFi is such a great one and lovely it works perfectly .

A few months ago I tried to set up and could not get it to work. I just tried it again and it works great.

This was super easy. I had issues with identity theft and I try to do everything I can to protect myself. Nice little app!

PrivateWiFi is easy to use and protects your privacy.

Every AOL user should have it!

I really am glad they have one for the phone. I FO have one for the home computer. I always worried about WiFi everywhere and people picking up things from my phone. Now I won't feel apprehensive in public.

Outstanding! Initially jumping one step during setup stage downloading the part that allows the VPN activation, but got it!

I’m not the most technical person and I was a little bit nervous about installing something on my phone and laptop -but I’ve already had my identity stolen twice and I know that wifi really isn’t safe and that I wanted to protect myself. This was so easy!! Very happy with the service!!

Contacted customer support for my issue. It was resolved!! I was up and running within five minutes after receiving their email. and the support. I change my rating 5 stars.

(Did not install completely no way of doing a fresh reinstall. I hope an update is posted soon.)
