Needs key features

So, NETGEARNighthawk does work thankfully but I have some qualms with it. NETGEARNighthawk should support all Netgear WiFi boosters. If you don’t use a nighthawk booster, ALL devices won’t show on the device list, not just what’s on the booster. Next, I do like that there are preset times to allow guest WiFi but it either needs to let you input the time manually or it should have a drop down menu like every other Netgear app has that you can select time increments of 15-30 minutes. I have my kids on the guest WiFi since my Netgear booster isn’t supported for the XR500. The XR500 doesn’t have parental controls at all, even though the advertisement says it does. It’s much better to be able to set time periods on a guest WiFi than it is to disable each device and have to look at the time constantly. I’d love to see NETGEARNighthawk to give more control since the admin is the one who uses NETGEARNighthawk . I’d love to be able to edit the devices themselves on NETGEARNighthawk . Yea I’m sure Netgear will say, get the circle app. Guys... the circle app is among the worse apps you have. It DOESN’T work. Netgear products aren’t cheap and you shouldn’t need five apps to do something basic. You shouldn’t have to pay a premium for parental controls. Netgear’s reputation keeps taking major hits because the lack of user friendly apps and trying to cash out on features that every other company gives for free. This was almost a $400 router. I’d expect to be able to use an app that acts like the $400 was well spent.

Nice routers, bad app

I bought some new Netgear stuff to replace my ISP rental box. I love these Netgear Nighthawk cable modems and WiFi routers. But NETGEARNighthawk is hot garbage. It was a nightmare to setup the router. I thought maybe 30 minutes at most to complete the setup. But it took me two hours because of NETGEARNighthawk. It wouldn’t connect to the router because it kept saying there was no internet and no matter what I did it would always say that. The router was working with internet. Since I could see all three bands on my phone and my PC had internet the entire time. But NETGEARNighthawk somehow never detected it. So, I unplugged the router and model and tried again. Four. Times. All four had the same results. I thought “hey, this’ll be super easy cause it has an app to set it all up”
Boy was I wrong lol
I eventually got it to work by signing in and setting the router up through the website and not NETGEARNighthawk. It detected the internet after that but still wouldn’t get to the main screen. So I tried the setup option again. But it again, didn’t detect the internet. Then out of the blue just jumped to the main screen with my router finished with the setup.
And now it won’t sign me in to let me view my router. This is the first app I’ve used that I just don’t understand what is going on in its process of things. And the first app I’ve left a review for.
Imma uninstall and reinstall it to see if that helps. But I have doubts

Devices

Used to show me name of devices. Now I have to check Ip addresses of each device and manually name them. I have WiFi lights, multiple phones and tablets, smart TV’s, etc and its a pain, especially when IP address changes on each device. The only work around is manually input each device to their original IP address I named. Stupid. Ever since last firmware update to allow smart connect constantly causes multiple devices to drop main combined WiFi connection. Drops everything it changes to a different channel and takes about 5 min for combined smart connect name to reappear and reconnect. Turn off smart connect and it’s even worse. Latest update limits my option to assign devices to 2.4 or 5 bands.

A lot of potential and I see where they are trying to accomplish but there’s too many bugs to be releasing and using us as guinnie pigs to work out their bugs.

Advanced users beware

I have a pretty old R7000 that has been working well for years. I have it set up as a bridge and have saved the settings in case I have to factory reset for what ever reason. Today was just such a day. Unable to reconnect, I had to reset. After several unsuccessful attempts to access and reload settings I ended up trying to connect my laptop via Ethernet cable to access it. At this point I wanted to try accessing the router with NETGEARNighthawk and was prompted that the net genie app no longer supports the nighthawk series routers. I downloaded the nighthawk app and tried setting it up. There is only one option, access a setup router, unless you are starting from scratch anyway. The router must get connected to the modem in order for NETGEARNighthawk to access it, it will not progress past that step otherwise. I finally gained access to the setup on my laptop and restored my bridge setup and attempted to access the router in NETGEARNighthawk again. Same options as before, if you look in the help section, it’s shows bridge mode and that you can’t use NETGEARNighthawk to access the router, you must turn off bridge mode. I can’t believe this series of router has such restricted app support and no option at all for manually accessing the router or anything. Netgear, get your “advanced” app in order so advanced users can actually use it to access their routers...

Erratic at best with iPad and iPhone

During the set up of the devices, at the end, the screen goes white and NETGEARNighthawk freezes. Have to close it and re-start again. Then, when trying to set up a second device, NETGEARNighthawk sometimes doesn’t recognize the user or password (and I know I was writing the right one because have the view password on). Later notice that if I leave the option “remember me” on, the issue with recognizing the password doesn’t happen that often.
Then, once the two devices are on, the mapping doesn’t use the assigned name given to the devices to the graphic in the map, making very difficult to know to which device belongs the information shown. Would be nice that rather than the map shows just the generic name/type of the extender, it adds the name given to it.
Then, with only one device, the list of the connected devices can be obtained relatively without problems. Once two devices are connected, sometimes the list is given, sometimes it is not given. Error message is shown.
By the way, the instructions to recover the password in case you forget it are useless unless you have a PH in computing. Not good for a product aimed to the general public.
Not good Netgear. You could do much better.

iOS/iPadOS App often doesn’t work when IPV6 enabled on R6700v2 (latest firmware)

Feb. 9, 2020 update: Latest App now works better when IPV6 enabled, but I still often have trouble with local auto-login when starting NETGEARNighthawk . The irritating workaround for the login problem (with IPV6 enabled) is to close the Nighthawk App, turn off and on WiFi in iPhone/iPad Settings App, and open the Nighthawk App again. Of course, the other workaround is to disable IPV6 in the router’s Web interface and reboot the router (if you don’t need IPV6).

The Netgear R6700v2 was advertised as supporting IPV6 but I have had irritating problems when IPV6 is enabled. The biggest problem now is that if IPV6 is turned on in the router’s advanced options (disabled by default), then the Nighthawk App on both iPhone and iPad often or usually doesn’t work or works for a while and stops working. If I turn off IPV6 and reboot the router, NETGEARNighthawk works fine. Other than this Nighthawk App, I think IPV6 works (using Web interface rather than App) although some VPN’s won’t work from the router’s network with IPV6 although newer versions of VPN’s with IPV6 support will probably work. Luckily, I don’t require IPV6 yet, and recommend Netgear router users just avoid enabling IPV6 unless they know they need it.

Could be a lot better

Love the Nighthawk router I use,but NETGEARNighthawk could be much better. Works well enough for seeing devices on the network and disabling ones I don't want connected right then. Could be a lot better first and foremost is being reliable when I try to open NETGEARNighthawk and connecting me. Half the time when I do a power cycle or there is a power outage, when the router is back on it won't connect me to it in NETGEARNighthawk . It will say it can't be and to check the connection when it is on and working. Have to mess around by doing another power cycle or deleting and installing NETGEARNighthawk again.

Another annoyance is the wifi icon will show all devices have a fair or week signal. There are no devices that show all the bars filled in green. Other things that could be better, but are not annoyances are making NETGEARNighthawk more fluid feeling and show data usage per connected device. It is nice to see the total used during the day, but would bet better to see it by device.

Other than that, NETGEARNighthawk does the basics well enough, but could be better so I can use NETGEARNighthawk more than needing to use the web browser portal for anything else.

Known issues with app that NetGear won’t fix!!

I have MR80 mesh router system with current software, my IPhone software is up to date and so is your lousy app. Two weeks ago, i started getting an error and could no longer view connected devices on the router or satellites via NETGEARNighthawk on my IPhone or IPad. I’ve uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted and done everything else I can think of. Numerous complaints are logged about this issue, yet NO fix. Then, I renewed my Armor security and when I click on that feature IN NETGEARNighthawk , I get an error and am told to call your 888 number. I spent 45 PAINFUL minutes on the phone with someone that I could barely understand that kept telling me I can check the security scan for my devices via my computer. I don’t carry my computer around, I use my iPhone and iPad so now I’ve paid for a subscription that is completely useless via your crappy app. He had no clue what I was talking about with the Armor Security feature in NETGEARNighthawk , FYI. Just kept telling me to check my computer.
Get it together and get it fixed! You know people are having problems with you app and are ignoring it!! Giving a 2 star review because at least my internet speed is still working in NETGEARNighthawk .

Sorry, won’t be installing this app

I used Netgear genie for awhile. After updating one of my routers, I have 5 netgear routers networked together in 4 separate buildings, one of my Nighthawk routers was not supported by the genie app. So, I thought, ooh cool I can try a new app. Well, first off it wants me to make an account online. STOP! Wait I have to create an account online to configure my internet router. 9 times out of 10 that I’ve used the genie app is to isolate an internet trouble. If I can’t use NETGEARNighthawk without internet it’s useless to me. The only reason I was even going here was my netgear cable modem/router had slowed to a crawl due to dos attacks from what the logs in the router were saying. After a day of searching online and troubleshooting it looks exactly like an issue that was posted on Netgear’s own forum about 5 years ago and as of a few months ago still had not been resolved. It appears to be some weird bug with iOS devices and IPV6 packets being misread as DoS attack packets in the router. Netgear did not even respond to it on their own forum. Netgear seems like it is becoming like every other tech company that focuses on greed more than the satisfaction of their customers. Too bad I have 5 of these things. I’ll be manually logging into them for now until I find a better alternative and will start replacing them one by one.

How could such a big company…

…have so many problems in their equipment? There are so many occasions I can not log into NETGEARNighthawk at all. It doesn’t recognize the password and locks you out. Then when NETGEARNighthawk looks like it’s working it crashes before ever getting into NETGEARNighthawk . The only thing that is consistent is the internet will run through the r8000 albeit, unsecured.
I’ve had the antenna split to run two different names for each 2.4 vs 5 and upon shutting down one of them there’s a complete security risk as people can still sign on and use the wifi when these have been turned off. No matter shutting down restarting or disabling the group devices are still able to log onto a network that the router actually shows as off.

Speaking of restarting the router, when you reboot or update from NETGEARNighthawk it will load bogus sales screens in your face that can not be bypassed as if it’s “running” something in the background. When it finally does finish and it asks to join the network that it’s suppose to be, it denies you access.
Maybe there should be less options simply because from operation to security it seems there is not much working from netgear.

Lots of Issues

I have a number of issues with NETGEARNighthawk. My biggest beef with NETGEARNighthawk are the constant ads that I get in my notifications on my phone from NETGEARNighthawk . I don’t want to turn off notifications because I want to know when a new device connects. Netgear should not be using notifications to get me to upgrade or sell me a new product. (2) It takes a long long time to connect to my system even when I have a strong connection to the router. Sometimes it tells me it can’t find it, even though I’m connected to it. (3) NETGEARNighthawk often won’t show me the devices on the network. When I click on Device Manager it always takes a really long time then most of the time it gives me an error. (4) NETGEARNighthawk won’t let me turn on Anywhere Access. It used to be on, but an app update turned it off. When I try to turn it back on, it gives me an error. (5) NETGEARNighthawk won’t save the device names. I went through and named all the devices on my network so I know what each device is, but NETGEARNighthawk keeps going back to the device’s default name. It’s really frustrating. All of these issues are extremely frustrating. I even tried resetting the routers and re-downloaded NETGEARNighthawk but all to no avail.

Difficult to hook up

No instructions on how to hook up. Cannot detect internet services from net gear app. Wry frustrated. Called tech service but couldn’t help. Finally, I read other people’s comments with same problems and follow their advice and it works: you have to turn off the modem , router and computer altogether . Unplug modem and router connection. Now, reset net gear router by using a small pin and push it into the little hole on the back of the router for about one minute. Turn on modem first and plug in the internet connecter. Then turn on the router and plug in the router from the modem connecter. Now, turn on computer. Meanwhile, turn on net gear app and search for internet connection from your phone. Your computer should now in admin password mode . Sign in with your router password. You can also change the names and passwords . Follow it through and you should have internet connection. If not, try the steps a few times. Good luck ! After that, I have great internet connection with this router. The bottom of the router is very hot. Poor ventilation. Place it on top a metal rack then should be fine .

Failed to Provide Seamless Setup

NETGEARNighthawk failed to connect to the wifi during the set up process. The screen immediately after choosing the new network ID and password failed. Note that I had just set the network name and password and at this point in the process and the very next screen NETGEARNighthawk failed to connect. It threw three different errors before finally directing me to connect via settings on my iPhone. I went to Settings -> Wifi and found my new personalized network name and copied and pasted the password, the same password I had just copied and pasted from NETGEARNighthawk —it’s wrong!

How’s that possible? I thought I had eliminated human error by copying and pasting, but I received the first error before ever entering the password—extremely irritating as I had to reset the modem router to factory settings and do it again. This time I didn’t customize the name or password in the setup and it worked. If you think I messed up entering the password, read this again. I created the password and on the very next screen, before I ever re-entered it, I was already receiving errors and I was never able to login. Netgear, seriously, stop producing this junk—it’s embarrassing from a technology company.

Terrible Application & Product

The only reason I am giving a one star rating is due to zero stars not being an option. The Nighthawk application is catered to the newer, more expensive routers. I didn’t have an astronomical amount of money to spend a few years back when I purchased my NetGear R6220 when finishing up my masters degree, I was a college student on a ramen noodle budget. The original NetGear app worked fine However, after being forced to download the Nighthawk Application even updating the firmware on my then antiquated R6220 proved impossible. I will also mention that I am a Certified I.T. and have an undergraduate in computer science and technology. It’s not for lack of knowledge on my part. It takes a lot of persistent problems with a product for me to make a negative review but NETGEARNighthawk earned its rating. I have a hard time believing that all of these five star reviews are actual customers and also know how easily a Corperation of this size could easily send home a product with their employees and get five star ratings, or lose your job. Just saying. Won’t be purchasing anything from this company ever again and am already looking forward to making this ongoing pain a thing of the past. Buyer beware, go with another brand...

Limited configuration, and needless account requirement

My biggest problem is the fact that you need an account, even if you don’t want remote access—and that isn’t even required for Remote Management via the web utility! The available options in NETGEARNighthawk are limited to the most basic things non-techies might need. It’s really only useful to me for turning on/off the guest network, checking connected devices, and looking at the traffic meter. It also doesn’t show the link rate for wired devices (not a major problem, but also not difficult to implement, so...) You can’t even view the logs, which would also not be difficult to implement. It shows some advance settings, but you can’t change them (DNS, etc). Virtually all other configuration still requires use of the web interface, which is a pain on a mobile device. It’s disappointing because two out of three times I want to set up port forwarding for a new computer/friends computer or check the logs. When are we going to get a full-fledged configuration app for mobile? Heck, I’d settle for the web utility on my R6260 being more mobile-friendly...

Great, when it works; no support

The system was much trickier to install than expected, and I had to hunt down support - truly a hunt and not nice. It worked perfectly for months, then all the sudden quit. The satellites don’t sync with the modem any more no matter what I do. And there is no one to help. You’re on your own. Since this review should be also about NETGEARNighthawk ,. I will tell you NETGEARNighthawk is pretty easy to use but it does have its glitches. You can get stuck in a screen and there’s no way to get out or go back without closing NETGEARNighthawk and rebooting. UPDATE: After much scanning on the internet I found a post that explained that the satellites and router sometimes don’t update automatically, even though I selected that option. Thank goodness it posted directions on how to manually update the system. Once I figured it out it took me about 30 to locate and download the updates and upload them to my devices. This is not a system I would ever recommend. I should not have to update anything! Crazy! I wish we’d bought Orbi instead.

Not recommended at the moment

I have long experience with routers and this one (the nighthawk ax4) seems to jump off network every 12hrs this morning it jumped off network, reset itself with a new default password & network name asking me to set up the router all over again. NETGEARNighthawk told me I couldn’t connect to the router but yet my phone is connected and online. I have a smart home and i can’t even keep devices on the network long, very frustrating that I’ve reset this router 5 times in the past 48 hrs that I’ve had it plugged up! I will be returning this, i have had better results with a$69 router a paid almost $300 for this one. I bought this because I wanted a steadier flow since now I’m having more devices on the network. And in no experience doses it takes 3-4 hrs to troubleshoot a router, after what I’ve paid I won’t even consider dialing a support number. But when it is connected it does work great. Great idea of a product, fix the simplicities!, after buying a product of this magnitude for it to be a hoax it makes you question the integrity of company and it’s product!

Not Quite Sure “Yet”

So I completed the Netgear Nighthawk Mesh WiFi 6 (MK635) setup which gets 4 stars. This replaced an Orbi Router RBR20 which was used with an Orbi Wall Plug Satellite RBW30. This combo could not adequately support 28 devices. Streaming programs would drop or take forever to load. The new MK65 gets 4 stars for this, especially having the TV Ethernet connected to one of the two satellites. No more loading issues …streaming content loads immediately.
What I do not like is (1) app is missing icons for smart devices like switches, outlets, appliances. Come on Netgear, these have been around for a while, (2) after setup I went into settings and changed default WPA2-Personal to WPA3-Personal. After reconnecting to my network and going back into NETGEARNighthawk , only 8 devices connected. WPA3 is supposed to be backward compatible however this was not the case. I had to switch back to WPA2, (3) if you edit the device names and reboot, the reboot wipes out the names you painstakingly edited.
I would give more than 2 stars if Netgear, big player in the market could get past the three customer experience dislikes.

Latest updates are disappointing

NETGEARNighthawk, even with quirks sometimes, was pretty good. The latest updates downgraded the features and decreased its reliability it appears. 1. States that devices are on and connected when they’re not, so real time status is sketchy. 2. No longer shows which devices are on 2.4 vs 5 vs Ethernet connections. 3. No longer can flip a switch to disconnect a device. 4. No longer shows which devices are connected to each satellite. No Wi-Fi connected devices show at all, only the hardwired ones in the network map. 5. The speed test no longer works at all. No data is displayed. 6. In the device list, Ethernet connected items show as Wi-Fi. 7. My favorite, the support link on NETGEARNighthawk does nothing. They say to contact them but then the link to do so doesn’t even work. So disappointed in how many features were removed in addition to the amount of things in NETGEARNighthawk that simply no longer work at all. Was there no customer test input? Any testing at all for stability?
Update: appears NETGEARNighthawk is not distinguishing between the devices that are Wi-Fi and those that are Ethernet cable.

Used to Work Well…Now It Doesn’t Update Firmware

I have an R7000 (ac1900) Nighthawk router purchased in late 2017. The first few years I was very pleased with it operation and this apps support. However over the last year I started experiencing more and more internet drops. Since NETGEARNighthawk said the router firmware was up to date, i suspected ISP issues and spent months debugging. I routinely have used NETGEARNighthawk to check for updates to the router firmware which worked well for the first few years. However I just realized today that NETGEARNighthawk has stopped finding and installing firmware updates! I check the Netgear website and find there had been numerous firmware updates that NETGEARNighthawk still reports there are no updates. This is worse than no app at all and proliferates old, out of date firmware in countless routers without users being aware. This puts Netgear customers at risk of new attacks on their networks. Netgear please update NETGEARNighthawk to have NETGEARNighthawk check for and install the latest firmware updates. I’m very disappointed in Netgear over this issue. I will look elsewhere for my next modem and router after this frustrating experience.

R7900 nighthawk router Device names

After this update to the application, both nighthawk app and genie no longer recognize any device names. If you try to add a device name to the IP address, it will add the name of the device you added to multiple different IP address is that do not have a device name on it. It changes The device names if on there as well when you try to add them to another IP address.

Developers, please check your program quoting as something is missing that prohibits you from adding that device name to the IP addresses. Unfortunately next year does not offer direct customer contact support and steers due to their neck your community for answers from other customers and users. That is not a good quality customer support from a company of the size as many users aren’t aware of how the product was developed or how it is programmed on the software.

Dope Application!

If you own your own router or modem / router combo and refuse to pay a monthly fee to any of these media conglomerates, then you’re smarter than the average bear!

It definitely pays for itself and more importantly gives you full control of your network. I’ve always been a fan of the NetGear’s hardware lineup and installing NETGEARNighthawk will make you wanna pat yourself on the back!

FWIW - I’m an application / software developer myself and I’m always critical of nearly every app that I install. To put it plainly, this one is a gem. Be careful though. After using NETGEARNighthawk, you may start to feel resentment and in some cases, hate towards the poorly designed / developed apps that you have installed. This is just one of those rare apps that can make you feel that kinda way! :)

Very disappointing

I’ve had trouble with the NETGEAR router and nighthawk app since purchase in June. Worked with their support team for so long that I can no longer return product. Problems have differed and been intermittent which makes it a challenge to solve when it’s only one product but I’ve had trouble with both the router and NETGEARNighthawk . The beta version of router firmware (now rolled out to all) seemed to clear up actual dropping connections with devices. Nevertheless the nighthawk app continues to not show all devices connected. For example I can tell that my roku or computer are receiving internet signal from the router yet the nighthawk app doesn’t list these as connected. For the record all of my devices are only connected wirelessly- that’s the point of having a router! Additionally, there are times when the connected device list will list a device then it will disappear in a matter of seconds. I’ve gone through so many reboots and reentering passwords to get all my equipment talking to each other that I can’t count the hours lost. I’d advise buying a different brand.

So far so good

I had trouble setting up my firewall but then I caved in and used NETGEARNighthawk recommended for my smart phone. Using NETGEARNighthawk was the magic ticket. The device feels flimsy if compared to Cisco products. However it is just sitting there so no harm should occur. Our home is not large and I get better reception than my previous router. There are a few quirks which I have not figured out yet. We have multiple devices, 2 printers, 4 iPads, 3 smart phones, 2 computers, but I have not worried or encountered any problems thus far while running multiple items simultaneously. I ran a test from my smart phone and I get a decent speed although I realize that NETGEARNighthawk may be biased. The unit does put out some heat but not enough to worry about. So far a good product. I just wonder how long it will remain cutting edge before I am forced to spend another huge chunk of cash.

Upload Update

Went to install my New Netgear R6400 v2 WiFi Router. The instructions were not clear that I had to register before system would operate. Figured it out by trying to locate technical assistance: as I uploaded the Nighthawk app and it stepped me through a registration process.

The biggest problem after looking for this tech assistance for over 20 minutes, was trying to load the suggested firmware update. Although it said 2-3 minutes I waited over 40 minutes while the progress indicator spun and spun. No way to back out had to start all over and skip the update. Very frustrating. This took hours it should have taken 10 minutes.

I am 62 but have an engineering degree & have rebuilt computers as well as auto engines. This should not have been so difficult. Ease of Tech assist access is paramount to your customers overall satisfaction.

Issues With Remote Access

After being a happy Netgear customer for over 20 years, I was very unhappy this past weekend and lost a lot of respect for the company. I purchased an X6S router on Friday and it was a disaster. That product continues to have severe connectivity issues even when on the latest firmware. For the huge price of the product, you would think it would work. I took the X6S back and had to spend even more money on the X10. I have not experienced the connectivity issues with this router, but there are issues with this IPhone application and remote access to the router. I believe when you remotely shutdown access to individual devices and/or shutdown the guest networks, NETGEARNighthawk is corrupting authentication properties. I started to get invalid connection password messages when trying to connect to the router from my iPhone, just for regular Wi-Fi access. There are definitely some issues that need to be resolved by Netgear.

Well worth the money

This is the fourth router I’ve purchased, but the first I’ve actually been impressed with. I’ve had issues with my internet connection at home for months, and realized after exhausting all other options, that it was the model of router I had that was the issue. It was notorious for randomly restarting after overheating in a cool room and would reset itself several times every day. I did some research and bought the NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk AC1750 and was actually blown away. My typical internet connection used to be 40-50 mbps download speed, now its 200 mbps steady. It by no means boosts my speed, as my ISP speed should be 200 mbps, but it’s not slowed down one bit by the 5-6 devices we have connected to it. Well worth the upgrade!

Update worse than previous

Auto updated to newest version a couple of days ago. The new version is worse than the previous. In the new version the users on my R7000 network won’t refresh after they are no longer on. While more icons were added they disappeared after going back to another page. The old app did the same thing. The Genie App which no longer is supported on the R7000 was much better. My router firmware is up to date so I don’t know what else to try. Netgear support is useless. They want to charge you $49 dollars after 90 days. Doubt if they could help anyway. I think the Negear Nighthawk software on my iPhone 6s is flawed.

They helped my local hacker get in!

True? Sadly, yes. I bought my new router to get away from neighbors who torment me not just use my WiFi. First day was awesome would have given 5 stars. Then added Parental Control at Netgear prompting and things went downhill. Disney was bad, then the Netgear Open DNS link was worse! Not only did neighbors send my router to their equipment, they got support to walk them through getting into my admin account! After 4 days of frustration I was able to connect and see Support tickets that were not ME getting help for this. A serious, serious security problem Netgear. I had Avira on my iPad, I had Armor Security on Router, I did everything THEY told me to do! When Tech tried to help me, actual owner of BRAND NEW router, he was told to hang up and redirect me to paid support. I am NOT impressed. I am old and tired of being taken advantage of.

Malware update killed $200 router

After the latest malware update I had to reset my router multiple times a day because it would drop our WiFi, mainly on our iOS devices. I regularly checked for new updates, but there were none. After dealing with this for a couple of weeks almost none of our devices were connecting so today I tried to factory reset the router. Now I cannot get it to connect at all. Very disappointed with this as it had been working for 2 years with no problems and I enjoyed using the circle app to regulate my kids internet usage. I am unsure of wether or not I will give them my money for another one. I think that if an update is corrupted the company would have worked harder to fix it in a timely manner rather than killing my router a month later.

Also I am ineligible for customer support because I bought the router more that 6 months ago? Sounds like a load of bs if you ask me.

App doesn’t recognize internet connection

Bought a new router today and tried to use NETGEARNighthawk to set it up. While in NETGEARNighthawk , it says I’m not connected to the internet. This made setup frustrating because I’m trying all different things to troubleshoot wire connections, the modem, etc. Turns out, I’m actually connected to the internet the whole time, NETGEARNighthawk just isn’t recognizing it. When I open NETGEARNighthawk , it asks me to log in, I do, and it continues to say the router is not connected to the internet. I can skip login to use NETGEARNighthawk . The main app screen says “INTERNET: Offline.” Yet within NETGEARNighthawk , I can do an internet speed test and am getting outstanding speeds. All of this includes after getting the router firmware upgraded. It was glitchy before the update, and not much better after. Not a good first experience with NETGEARNighthawk . The router seems to work great, however.

Over complicated set up and the app is useless. Net gear is a garbage company that makes garbage products. Why does Netgear support say to update the firmware on the app when 1. That's not an option. 2. How am I going to update something when i can't connect to the internet. Hope they go bankrupt.

As the top reviewer averred, user can not name devices in network, which displays it as unknown or -- Sadly, I call this stupid software engineering. If you ever have to factory reset a netgear router, know this: it will display your previously changed routers name (shadow network) both the 2.4 & 5 will show up. Another issue, I used my modem software to disable the 5G band, it was causing my IP to consume data cap faster and causing additional data cost. Sadly, the nighthawk has no enable/disable switch for 5g band. Who programs the Nighthawk app ...A TEENAGER?

since the last App update in Feb-27-22 the app is not working correctly After logging to the APP and under Network Map it shows the router and the 2 satellite, However when selecting any satellites it says " No Connected Device Found" each satellite used ti show devices connected to them which help with relocating the Satellite closer to my devices for better wifi sometimes it shows connected devices, then if i change screen all goes dark again, Last firmware update sucks

Problems with the Nighthawk wifi app??? Let me count the ways. * I bought their 1-year Armor security last week, and I have a receipt. But I'm still getting their stupid countdown on the app's home screen, which says under the Security section: "Network Protected, 2 days remaining." I called Support, they confirmed my order for Armor went through, but they have no idea why it's still counting down like that. * The top of the home page for the app says "Internet: Online," until it decides to say "Internet: Offline" instead -- even though I have an active internet connection while it says I have no internet. * It thanked me for setting up "Parental Controls," which I hadn't done. And the app even says that option is "Off." * It tells me off and on at the home screen that there have been "0 Threats Detected and Blocked," even though another part of the app has a full list of scam threats it just blocked. * It blocked me multiple times from getting into pubmed.gov, one of the largest repositories of medical journal abstracts and articles. I need this for my job, and I'm at a loss why they say it's not safe. When I checked online, I'm not the only Nighthawk user with the same question. I finally turned off blocking for that site. I've gone into the app and cleared the cache and data, but the app still acts like an idiot. I could keep going, but this just makes my head hurt more.

It will not boot up. It stalls refusing to open every time.
