You must download and use the app in order to benefit from using the company’s glasses. However, if you try to access the app, a pop up window indicates that the company wants you to give it permission to “…track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.” This is not insignificant. The company’s own privacy policy indicates that it may use personal information it collects to “Create audiences for our advertisements, target our advertisements, and generate reports about the performance of our advertisements.” The privacy policy further provides that the company may share “Personal information collected through our App may be shared between the brands and affiliates, including future affiliates that are owned or operated by Luxottica.” If you try to express any privacy concerns to the company’s customer service representatives, most are less than helpful. Anyone who is considering purchasing the company’s glasses really needs to consider these things.
UPDATE - I ultimately returned my glasses because I do not think they are ready for prime time. The glasses kept turning themselves off. Also, my experience is that several of Luxottica’s representatives are rude. When I returned my glasses to the store, the store representative told me that her store had to return its display because it kept overheating.

It keep saying that there was a problem and the email may be in use, tested several times with different emails. Always the same problem the glasses cannot be used without the app. So i cannot use my glasses. Fix it come on!

Nice packaging but I never got it to work not only because the app too complicated and does not work, the privacy of my personal conversations will be compromised. This is serious 1984 stuff. Of course, Mark Zuckerberg is the largest shareholder… No thanks
