TotK Travel Guide: Companion Reviews

This companion app is very well designed and overall a great start. I like that it’s a one-time purchase rather than a monthly subscription (I have no problem paying for subscriptions, but it doesn’t feel like the right pricing model for an app like this), so that’s already an edge over the competition. There are a few things that I think are keeping this from being a true 5 star experience, and they’re also keeping me from actually purchasing the full app:

1. I agree with another reviewer that TotKTravelGuide needs some kind of visual indicator right on the map that shows you’ve marked a place as discovered.

2. I’d take this further and say that TotKTravelGuide should let you filter by that discovered status; completionists will want an at-a-glance view of the things they’ve yet to find.

3. I also agree that the list of things on the map should be expanded: stuff like armor, special weapons, special items, and bosses should all be there, and much of that data already exists.

Overall, though, this is a well designed start. Looking forward to seeing TotKTravelGuide expanded and even just those first two things would get me to pay!

It’s clear the developer is trying to have TotKTravelGuide be helpful while avoiding spoilers. I really appreciate that. Also just well done.

A great app for keeping track of everything as you play along.

One development point for a future release: By default only the surface map area for Central Hyrule is shown (which works for those who don’t want spoilers), but the entirety of the maps for the depths and skies are shown and can’t be hidden. It would be great if you could select which maps of the skies to show (as you can for the surface regions), and if the maps shown for the depths were based on which light roots have been discovered.

TotKTravelGuide has everything you need to complete the game, except for clothing and materials. That is one thing I would add, making this review 4/5 stars. I love the fact that you can add notes to things like a shrine you want to complete later and how you wish to improve on it.
Great app, will be updating if the creator ever adds in the clothing/materials :)

It’s like the old school Nintendo power maps I used to pour over for my NES games, but with way more information.

No Traditional Chinese support, only Simplified Chinese which differs in many ways

I am usually apprehensive to purchase apps without a free trial, but I was blown away with how well designed everything is, I bought the full version without hesitation. TotKTravelGuide ’s usability is honestly 10/10 and feels like something Apple would design themselves. At the time of this review, I think I downloaded version 1 of TotKTravelGuide , which indicates that it has massive potential.

Like the other reviewer, I think there are some features that would great additions. There are probably some features that the developer has in the pipeline, but I thought I would share my feature ideas as well. Not sure how hard these would be to code, but I felt like they would improve the experience to 11/10:

1. A checklist for armor (and upgrades), weapons, shields, bows, materials, and other remaining collectibles.

2. A visual indicator (like a checkmark overlaid on a landmark on the map) that serves as way to quickly see if a location has been discovered without having to tap into it.

3. If the information is available, I think it would be cool to see technical information of items (like weapon durability) in a separate menu.

4. Locations of materials where there is a general area where a material might be. Not sure how hard this would be to code.

This is one of my top 3 go to apps for TOTK. The layout and features are very smooth and nice quality. Reliable and fully featured.

Saw a review about this and was pleasantly surprised. Gave it a shot and within about 10 minutes paid the one-time $3.99 fee for ALL feature unlocks. No subscriptions required.

The developer keeps adding everything to the map, and doing so swiftly. Quite worth it. A great game companion.

I am 170 hours into TOTK and TotKTravelGuide is delightful! It makes it so easy to track where I left off, where I want to come back to, what I completed, what I need for armor upgrades, and much more. It makes completing all of the side quests much more enjoyable. I really feel like I’m getting the most out of this game because of TotKTravelGuide. 5 stars! Highly recommend it!!!

So much of a help for playing the game. if I had suggestions I would put them but TotKTravelGuide just keeps on getting better and better. Keep up the good work!!!

I love TotKTravelGuide!! It syncs between my iPhone and iPad. It has good search and it’s fun to use.

Regular updates. Lots of detailed maps. Love the armor tracker. The best app for TOTK

I have been loving TotKTravelGuide as it has been evolving since I first downloaded it. More and more locations are being added all the time.

Fun and easy to use.

When I was younger and playing GameBoy games, I would go out and buy a guide from GameStop or wherever and it would tell me important strategies, and how to beat bosses, and usually included a map. TotKTravelGuide does precisely what those old, printed guides once did. It is a FANTASTIC resource for Tears of the Kingdom and elevates the gameplay experience for folks like myself. Thanks for making this excellent resource!

Another review said TotKTravelGuide was just like the Nintendo Power guides, and I think they hit the nail on the head. TotKTravelGuide itself has all the tools needed to get everything you need out of it. The spoiler-safe magnifying glass feature is a really nice touch.
To the dev, great work! I don't know if your app sports it, but have you considered pulling from the userbase's notes to make it a little easier to add more points of interest? Either way, I'm looking forward to the next update!

TotKTravelGuide is amazing. The developer has been fantastic at adding new item types and quality of life details. I really appreciate the multiple ways to track and sort items. My only request at this point is to allow for use on Mac. Great job on a fantastic companion app for an incredible game. Happy adventuring to all!

I think it’s an awesome app i just wish the only thing that could be better is a guide to all the shrines and quests it would be awesome please write back or if not that’s fine

I like that I can look at TotKTravelGuide to find out my totk questions. It is in a good format and fun to look at.

TotKTravelGuide has made my considerable amount of time on TotK so much better. I wasn’t sure at first since I like discovering on my own and didn’t want help… but TotKTravelGuide is designed around that. Being able to mark things as complete, and if you CHOOSE to look up the location of something is really invaluable though. In a game with SO much to see and do, this is better than any written guide could have been.

Highly recommended and incredibly well-done, you can’t go wrong with trying it, and the one-time-purchase for more options was a no-brainer to support the developer.

It’s really really great but I have update ideas update idea 1: the temples do an update where you can see how many temples you have gotten update idea 2: the legendary weapons it would be a great update for the legendary weapons to have their own slot but overall TotKTravelGuide is great

Stunningly well designed app, by far the best app for totk on iOS!!!

TotKTravelGuide is good so far I love the UI. However, it would be nice to see treasures listed in the shrine tab for what you can find in a shrine, but apart from that I think everything looks pretty swell. Please also, add zonai items to the materials bar so that I can search them and see which dispensers i can find them at. Would also be nice to see shrine walkthroughs in a different notes sections of the shrine menu

TotKTravelGuide is pretty good but I prefer more info on the items in the games ex: weapons fruit or food and ores. But the thing that I REALLY REALLY don’t like about it is that every time I try to get something done or look something up, it always takes me out of TotKTravelGuide to my Home Screen and that gets me really annoyed.
Overall it’s okay but if your planing on getting TotKTravelGuide just know that there are other options to explore so dont just stick to one app.

Wonderful map, makes TOTK a much better experience and is the type of tool one would expect a developer with 8 years of dev time to implement into the base product.

My one ask which may be tricky but certainly fairly standard and doable (maybe already done but I don’t see this option) is to allow data export/import or accounts creation so I can switch between my iPad and iPhone and the maps are in sync.

Otherwise, what makes TotKTravelGuide stand apart from others is quality of build and tracking progress which really makes this a very personal feeling application. It comes across as more of a travel journal than just a map/info dump. I kind of think of it as my own Sheikah Slate (Purah Pad). Top notch, everyone should get the + edition (I did and am loving it). Thank you for making a great tool!

When I first started playing ToTK the first thing I did was look for a guide from Jeffery, seeing how far both the animal crossing new horizons guide and this ToTK guide has come in the last few years is a testament to the skill and dedication that goes into building them and I love getting to watch the guide evolve along the way! The direct responses to feedback and watching features added from popular requests make this a must have! I think my only requests would be adding the Bubblfrogs to the map or the compendiums, but not having them won’t keep me from looking forward to ticking off locations, items, and watching the completion meter for shrines inch closer to 100%!
