Fodor’s Travel Phrases Reviews

I travel often and have been needing an app that helps me with USEFUL local language. I’m not trying to become fluent in 15 languages, but would like to be polite and learn some basics in the local languages. FodorsTravelPhrases has been so helpful, I literally recommend it to every traveler I meet. The locals in every country have appreciated my simple use of their language, even if it’s just a simple thank you.

I purchased the additional in-app phrase option and was surprised to see such phrases as “I want to buy a roll of film” “Where can I go to jog?” and “The line is busy.” They may want to update those at some point but, on the whole, the guide is useful and it’s wonderful to hear each phrase spoken aloud.

I bought the full pack for 10 dollars, and the download failed. After trying numerous times to restore purchases, I tried to reinstall FodorsTravelPhrases , also didn’t work. I then bought the Western European pack and that download seemed to work. I’m quite upset my $10 purchase went down the drain, but at least I have the languages I need.

It would have got 4 or 5 stars except for the issue it has when you save a phrase as a favorite and only the first line of it shows up. You can’t see the second line in English or the other language (Japanese in this case)

I was looking for something easy to use and this was great for that. But I wish it had a couple of things. First the phrases went by so fast I had a hard time breaking down the vowel sounds. So I wish there was a way to slow it down. American English is not precise will vowels so we mess up others' languages. Secondly I wish there was s quick link to a dictionary or just additional list of words that could be added to an internal memory. For instance, asking directions? Left/right? Where is the bathroom/toilet? Which can all be pretty important stuff

I purchased the Italian phrases. iTunes charged my account. I can see a download link, but when I click the link then absolutely nothing happens. Got charged but received nothing. Sent three emails to them. No response. Nothing.

I just got FodorsTravelPhrases with the bigger packs for the countries I will be visiting. I may have missed it but one of the most important phrases seems to be missing...’where’s the bathroom?’

Apple should remove FodorsTravelPhrases from FodorsTravelPhrases Store because it no longer works. I am on iOS 14. It hasn’t been updated in two years. From reading other customer reviews, it seems support is non-existent.

I wish this would continue I like to listen to it but don’t want to hit the button for every phrase to hear it

I purchased the Spanish and Italian packages for $2.99 each. FodorsTravelPhrases took my money, and didn’t give me anything.

Do not download this crap app.

This upgrade crashes. After reinstall wouldn't restore the in-app Globetrotter bundle that I had purchased. Poor support from apple and random house. Pathetic ripoff.

Problem Update, it's a bug, I found a work around: Roll back FodorsTravelPhrases thru "Time Machine" to version 1.1 (and refrain from updating until developer fixes the interface to the Store bug.) Restore would work as it is meant to be. As an aside: Apple should do something about it's update policy. One should be able to disable updates on certain apps. The "Update All" button is an invitation to disaster.

Update 2: version 1.3 does fix the problem reported above with a caveat. Don't UPDATE, rather, delete FodorsTravelPhrases and re-download the new version from FodorsTravelPhrases Store. If you don't you would experience crashes. One would think the developer would include these instructions. But alas, I gave up on the Random House and on Apple. For that FodorsTravelPhrases does not even deserve the one star previously granted.

The content of FodorsTravelPhrases is very useful and certainly what a traveler needs for a trip. As part of the features of FodorsTravelPhrases , you can listen to the pronunciation of the phrases. The problem is that not all of them work! I can't even say that I can listen to half of the phrases. It may be even less. I hope they correct this problem SOON!

I've had some programs from Living Language before, and I was quite satisfied with the quality. FodorsTravelPhrases brings a more controlled way of fast-paced practice rather than the audio programs in which you would need to rewind to practice difficult phrases over and over again. So if you're looking for some app to meet your new-coming needs, give this one a try as I believe it is well worth the price of the downloadable language packs.

FodorsTravelPhrases is perfect. I was concerned about the audio issues some users have been disappointed about. However, when I plug in my headphones, I can hear the pronunciation of all words. On the other hand, it doesn’t work at all without head phones. I’m okay with this, I am always a little embarrassed when the word pronunciation would come on in public!

App crashes and doesn't even open. Need to fix please!!! I'm frustrated that I spent a lot of money and FodorsTravelPhrases doesn't even load.

When it did work:
It offers basic phrases that one would want to know when traveling. If you are like me, who likes to learn different languages, it's perfect for you! I bought the European package for $4.99. I kind of wish they would add more phrases and such for the money I paid but ioverall I like it. I'll look into buying the Asian package if they add more features! (Flash cards, etc)
