Museum by Sktchy Reviews

I downloaded Museum about 2 days ago and since have really enjoyed the way you can basically collect lots of photos for inspiration in Museum . it's really cool that it puts it all in one place! i also really like Museum because the people uploading photos for inspiration a lot of times really try to make their pictures dynamic and interesting and it's not just a bunch of people going "draw me plz!!!" with a horrible snapchat filter picture that crops out half their face. There are a lot of users on Sktchy who seem to really care and that totally rocks. i also like that it has a very small community feeling to it and doesnt feel like when you upload art that youre shouting into the void like instagram feels a lot of the time, lol it really does feel like people are actually able to see your art and theyre interested in it. overall Museum is useful if you enjoy drawing portraits and want to become better at them, because a lot of the "inspiration" pictures people provide are their own faces. it's also a cool app if you have some nice photography that you'd like to see inspire people to make art. so far im excited to experience more!!

I LOVE Museum so much and have for years. It has been a real spark to daily creating and I love the community, support and fun of it all. I don’t mind that the inspiration is now curated as it has brought more quality images to create from. I love the vast talents of artists - from self taught to degree holders, beginners to advanced.

My only complaint is Museum is clearly moving towards being a subscription/paid (only?) service and I am not interested in that (yet anyway). The tips are fine, but I like to explore on my own a lot too. Daily is too much. A tip once a week would be better. The new update makes the paid portion/daily tips front and center, which free member cannot access. I understand we all have to make money and absent ads, what can they do? I will keep an open mind as updates become available.

As an aside, I had a whopper of a techno problem and was blocked from my account. They were AWESOME in helping me resolve it.

This is my absolute favorite app and I don’t write reviews but it’s really upsetting that the photo inspiration is curated now. Please for the sake of art and the wonderful community that Museum has made let us access all photos posted. I have been a part of Sktchy for several years. I recommend it to my friends etc. all the time. It is a wonderful, supportive community filled with talented, amazing people! But curating the inspiration cuts away so many of those people. I want to see everyone’s photos as an artist. I want to decide for myself who’s pictures I want to paint, not what Museum thinks I should paint. I still love Museum, I have learned from it and found confidence in my art as well. This is very serious though. We all deserve the opportunity for our pictures (just like our art) to be seen and embraced!! Please please please fix this heartbreaking situation!

Sharing your art on this is so fun because you either get positive feedback or constructive criticism because everyone on Museum has a love for art themselves.

Another great thing is that it’s not totally over run with anime like other art apps (not saying that’s a bad thing, it just gets in the way if your not a fan of it) and doesn’t allow you to post images that are not your own.

Although the art you share on Museum is meant to be created using an inspiration others post on sktchy, I do recommend they add an option to upload art that you didn’t use an inspiration for. Otherwise you get a lot of “Free draw” pictures.

I love Sktchy and have been on Museum for years. Giving 3 stars because this shift to “this app” is really stupid. The spirit of sktchy is that it’s for practice, you can do sketches and improve your skills. Museums are for fine art pieces and the name alone is intimidating. I want to practice portraiture, not feel like I have to upload art that is perfect.

I have no idea who convinced Museum creators this was a good idea, but I hope they go back to Sktchy. Sktchy is friendly, this app is stuffy. Sktchy is the first result on google, this app isn’t even listed because the name is so common.

The website claims it’s a play on “muse” but I definitely didn’t get that. I’m assuming they’re focusing on muses > artists bc they want more people on Museum . Very disappointed. Why do all great apps make terrible decisions? Feeling: sad, disappointed. Goodbye Sktchy 😔

Museum is more about the community it has built than the coding and technology used to create it. You can interact with portrait artists from around the world. There is no harsh judgement unless you ask for a brutal critique. All skill levels of artists are embraced. There are many teaching artists who offer lessons through Museum and the subscription which is totally worth it. Even if you don’t want to subscribe to the daily tips, you can simply comment an artist and they are more than willing to answer questions and offer advice. It’s a beautiful community that I am proud to be a part of.

I know that sounds extreme but for me and others I know it's true. I've always been an artist but tended to put it on the back burner in life. Sktchy got me drawing and creating regularly more than I've ever done before. Seeing others art motivated me to do more and push myself. Even the weekly challenges got me thinking differently and outside my norm. This is by far my favorite app with a wonderful, enriching community of artists!! You won't regret it. DOWNLOAD Museum!!!

You guys. I LOVE Museum. What a fantastic idea to give artists access to other artists, models, and just a ton of really awesome people who genuinely seem to care about art. Artists of all different skill levels are given a huge database of subjects to pull inspiration from and are met with so much positivity and excitement! I loved getting a response back from the first girl I drew. It suddenly made art a lot more personal for me and I’m so glad I found that fulfillment in an app! Sktchy is seriously something special.

Museum is great and it gets you drawing. It’s come a long way since it’s launch with classes and tutorials.
There is something very essential missing. If you have been active on Museum the sketches pile up. Hundreds of them!
We need to have a few small galleries.
Your ten most liked pictures, your ten most liked inspirations, and ten pictures you want to show off so people don’t have to try to scroll through hundreds of you pictures to get a feel of your style/styles. Also a website would be cool too to see the art on a bigger screen than a phone.

It's a terrific way to find images to render. Folks who like your stuff can give you feedback. Of equal benefit is the huge amount of other people's work to see, study, and comment on. By presenting both the reference and the art side by side, Museum gives you the opportunity to see how others handle a particular challenge. You can see how experts and amateurs choose tone and colors and how they apply lines and areas to define, enhance, or mangle forms.

I joined Sktchy in March of 2016, & have had a most wonderful time at learning new things, getting inspired by fellow artists. I have grown as the result of it , I consider this platform almost like a close family. The other members are all very supportive and helpful. Have made it a habit to take time and draw everyday regardless if I post it everyday or not . To this day I have posted around 540 drawings . I recommend this program to any growing artists.

Museum opens up new directions that people would’ve never known before. Artists and beginners alike are all the kindest people and they provide very helpful advice.

This is also a platform for all kinds of artists; pencil, ink, watercolor, digital, even gouache! Even if you’re not an artist yourself, you can still use Sktchy because you can post inspirations for other people to draw.

In short; Museum is the best platform for all kinds of artists.

Fantastic app that just gets better as time goes on. The founders and staff behind the scenes really listen to their community & try to find ways to keep it new & exciting. The artists and muses are supportive and friendly. I eschew as much social media as I can- but Sktchy is a positive environment -and after several years of using Museum I think of it as my internet home gathering with my friends from all over the world.

First of all I just want to say that I love your app it’s so fun I love the challenges and the inspiration. I would 10 out of 10 recommend Museum to anyone who liked art. I need a place to publish it. But I do have one problem your app focuses on portraits it’s very narrow minded. I am more of a landscape artist but I have yet to see any challenges that doesn’t include portraits. Please change this thankyou😊

Best app ever! If you want to see serious artists in action click that install button! If you are a artist click that install button, there is only one thing if you want Frances to teach you to draw and painting daily you have to pay monthly but I don’t do that! If you do get it, make sure to follow Johanna Wakefield Art! Goobye

I began my trial with Sktchy and tried to post some artwork. Museum forced me to put a reference image down first, which I didn’t have, this stuff comes from my head. As an artist I express myself how I want to, not how Sktchy wants me to. Come to find out, they FORCE you to put a reference image down with EVERY. SINGLE. POST. Ridiculously unreasonable. Contacting them through email, they replied with:
“you need to draw a reference photo from Sktchy to share art. This is a bit funky, we know, but it’s also what makes Sktchy unique.” No Sktchy. No it does not. It is not “funky”. It actually crippled my experience. Deleted immediately.

This is Museum I’ve been waiting for.
It’s just the kind of app I’ve always needed, photos to inspire the creative thought process. It’s absolutely amazing.

The only thing is, it’s horrible at loading. Anytime I get a notification it never loads properly. I have to exit Museum and refresh it and click in and click out and it’ll eventually load the new notification. But it’s a bit frustrating!

Museum is great! Especially for artists who want to share their art.

One thing that bothered me...

When you post your art, your required to select and inspiration/reference.
I like this concept, however some of my art doesn’t have a reference, or I don’t have it anymore, or I have more than one.

I think it would be very helpful for many to create an optional “select inspiration”. And to include an option to select more than one or select from your own photos.

Overall an amazing app. I love the concept of social media for artists and I’m happy there is something out there like that!

I’ve been using Museum for a few years and I love it…but… Just one BIG issue… I’m locked out of my account because of some lame glitch and after sending countless messages in the website and app support links I am not getting any support or responses. I’ve sent 3 or more messages that have been left unanswered… years of my work and followers left locked in my account… very disappointed :(

I enjoy using Sktchy and feel it could be a good way to get into a daily art practice, get better at portraiture, or even just get over a creative slump. The inspiration photos the other users upload are frequently very interesting, and I have a few favorite models who are always uploading new, dynamic photos that it is easy to be inspired by. Nice, supportive community of creators as well. Overall pretty great.
