Update ruined the beauty

Why for the love of god does the app now shut down when my phone screen goes dark/sleeps! This issue renders the app totally useless. Is there a work around for this or should I just give up now. Can I get my old version back?! I was in love with this thing- now it’s becoming something I avoid using for the reason mentioned above.
Deleting and reloading the app does not fix this problem. But you lose all of your favorite tapes in the process so at least there’s that :/

Love this app. But over the last year and be experienced a ton of problems. When trying to stream a show it either just hangs or if I’m listening to a show it shuts off when my iPhone XR goes back to the Home Screen or if I switch to a different app. You have to constantly restart your device. I’ve already confirmed this is not my device. Please fix this

App stops playing when you switch to something else, making it pretty much useless for playing in the background while working. Deleted and reinstalled and still the same issue. This should be a no-brainer feature.
