An example of how to ruin a good healthcare app experience

I loved GlucoseBuddy before they changed to the subscription model a few months back. There are so many things you used to be able to do that aren’t available, even small things like using a custom label instead of before/after a meal. And now in order to share your graphs with your doctor you can only go back two weeks and you have to print it out vs email it. It’s a real shame not to be able to afford an app that used to be an asset to my medical care. I would have been able to use GlucoseBuddy had there been a one time purchase price, but I can’t justify adding another monthly automatic charge just to log my glucose levels. I used to hype GlucoseBuddy to everyone I knew with diabetes. Even my doctor was impressed, although I had to explain what happened when I could no longer send her my full detailed data via the health portal. Now I tell everyone about GlucoseBuddy , explain how the developers forced a subscription model on users, and use it as an example of how patients suffer when profiting from their diseases becomes the goal. I wish I had never trusted this developer with my data. Now it’s locked away and I had to start over again with another app.

Too buggy

I’ve been using GlucoseBuddy for many years and was very happy with it. Now not so much. The new model is truly troubled. Since the last release, GlucoseBuddy has become too buggy to be of use. Just opening GlucoseBuddy takes several minutes. Sometimes it opens and immediately closes. Once it opens entries cannot be made until it’s good and ready. Occasionally it just totally freezes up! I used to be able to estimate my A1C, but no longer unless I want to pay for it! Nope not me! I got so fed up with the bugs that in a fit of rage I deleted GlucoseBuddy and all of my data. Wish I could give it less than one star.

Horrible customer service

GlucoseBuddy used to be a lot better and it was free. You used to be able to link with their online service and now you can’t. I thought it was because I hadn’t paid for the premium app so I bought it and it still doesn’t link to their site. I emailed them several times about this and didn’t get a response for a week. When I did get a response it was “we’ve decided not to link GlucoseBuddy with our website.” So I sent them another email asking for a refund since GlucoseBuddy isn’t even as good as its previous free app and they won’t respond to my email. Very dissatisfied.

don’t update

I was fine using GlucoseBuddy as it was without additional purchases. I have maintained an A1c below 7 most years only exceeding 7 4 times since 2014. However each time I update GlucoseBuddy they
take away features I have had for free and now want me to pay for them. This was basically a decent app that they want to be a cash cow.

Recently I updated because the promo said that there was a improvement in the insights tab. Prior to the update I was tracking my glucose, weight, steps & blood pressure in INSIGHTS over multiple years. What lies. After updating the only thing I can see in INSIGHTS is previous glucose readings. All the other data that was available on my phone is no longer available. Further, GlucoseBuddy no longer records my daily steps for me to see.

I do not see this as an improvement. I needed to get another app just to keep track of my steps.

App Was seriously Degraded in last Update

The lat update tremendously degraded the functionality of this application!! Previously, it was useful in tracking blood glucose and viewing trends. Now, it appears to have been turned into a sales vehicle for meters, strips, and coaching. Being n medicare, I have my supplies already covered. Why would I want to start paying twice fir them. Having been a user of GlucoseBuddy foryears, I am very disappointed!! I will likely need tofi d another app that will allow me to do what GlucoseBuddy previously did. What were you thinking??

If it ain’t broke, revise it so it won’t work

These guys are masters of “updates” of questionable necessity, of giving no instructions about how to navigate the changes in an update, and introducing new features that don’t work. Such is the case with their latest. No clue why they wanted to change it. No help on how to get it to work, and the introduction of new features which prevent you from entering accurate information conveniently. It took me two weeks to figure out the last upgrade, which finally worked acceptably. Now a new upgrade which does not accept glucose readings being entered without exiting that screen and going to another for corrections. It sure looks like you have no diabetics in your software team. Or maybe they’re comatose from inaccurate readings?

Not so great anymore

I used to love GlucoseBuddy. I even paid for it a few years ago. And now, we’ll it’s a subscription! That’s ridiculous! Many can’t afford this kind of stuff. Not only that, but GlucoseBuddy was better and easier the way it was! I miss all the tools I had long ago with GlucoseBuddy. I find it hard to use and hard to find information when needed. And keeping track of my A1c is impossible. I can’t afford to pay over and over for this. Medicine costs enough.

App is great, but unwanted tracking is not

I really like what GlucoseBuddy can do. It is a good diabetes tracker that works well. What I don’t like - really don’t like - is that it sends my data to Facebook and Google in the background and without my explicit permission. It’s in the fine print of the privacy policy almost at the bottom. Until this sharing is removed or I am allowed to turn it off in GlucoseBuddy , I will not be using GlucoseBuddy anymore, which is too bad, because as I said, it’s really good at what it does.

Not the best App on the Block

The Developer is totally null and void!! I have tried several Glucose Applications and this happens to be my 3rd. GlucoseBuddy is the best so far out of all of them. However, it has its limitations and the developers are really negative and none responsive regarding suggestions about improvements!! The help section is totally worthless!!! For an application that boasts being the best, it really needs a lot of work. One of my biggest complaints is it will not link to your Apple Watch App for information about steps, etc. as I wear my watch from when I get up to when I go to bed. I don’t carry my phone with me all the time and you have to for it to track your steps.

Good app, just falls short

The developers for Diabetes:M, MySugr, Sugarmate, and Glucose Buddy need to get together to integrate their apps to build a true “ultimate” app for diabetics. I was excited about Glucose Buddy because the design itself is nicer looking than Diabetes:M AND it could actually integrate my CGM data; however, one of the best parts of Diabetes:M is the bolus advisor and insulin on board indicator. Without those features, there’s no point in me using GlucoseBuddy since it tracks the same things that the Dexcom and Diabetes:M apps track when used together. I wish I’d read more closely before I paid $2 for GlucoseBuddy .

Good concept, serious flaws

I’m sorry I purchased a subscription because I’m not sure I can stand GlucoseBuddy for a year. I love that it integrates food, meds, blood sugar and exercise. I don’t love the food database. Yes, there are an enormous number of foods, but they are poorly organized. If I want to log a tangerine, why is the fruit itself several pages after foods made with tangerines, or tangerine flavor? There are multiple entries for identical foods, often with conflicting nutritional information. There should be a filter to select native data (from the original food database) and allow a user to ignore entries made by other users. There is also a flaw that make all food entries at the time of the initial morning entry, forcing one to manually change each food. This program needs som serious updates for it to match its reputation.

Sorry you changed the app

I’ve been using GlucoseBuddy for a few years and have been pleased that I could track blood sugar, carbs and most importantly the 24 individual medications that I take daily- several prescriptions are multiple times daily. A few days ago GlucoseBuddy was changed and I now have several more keystrokes or ‘buttons to push’ because each medication has to be logged individually, then then add medicine and then save. Previously I could click down my entire drug list on 1 page, then click through the dosages all on 1 page at one time and then save. So I now need to go through adding each drug at a time which is time consuming and frustrating. I have dexterity mobility issues. I wish this new change could be undone. This new change did not enhance this application in any way.

Use of new app

I think you are continuing to improve app. Current update is nice but a few bugs. 1) on blood pressure it doesn’t hold last reading so always having to dial a lot to get to number; ie goes to 105 and I am usually at 150ish on SYS etc. also why can’t GlucoseBuddy be the same as blood sugar where you just type in numbers?
All in all it is a good app. Haven’t tried some of the aspects; maybe on another review...

Works Well but needs some added features

Glucose Buddy works well for tracking T2D but needs to have medication tracking with alarms per medication, refill alarms, and more integrations added to it including integrations with other sites to import data easier. Also the barcode scanner for food crashes GlucoseBuddy a lot.

Great, but!!

I really like GlucoseBuddy, it’s helped me with my journey of getting off the insulin for my Type 2 diabetes. The only thing is, I have to use the Carb Manager app along with this one because neither app has everything I need. If GlucoseBuddy would be able to inform you if the foods you’re wanting to buy was “Keto Friendly” like the Carb Manager, it would been a five Star for me.

Awesome app!

I was rather overwhelmed when my doc told me I was diabetic, wondering how I was going to track all my numbers, calories, weight, etc. Then I found Glucose Buddy, which does it all for me! It even helps me with my diet, because all I have to do is scan a barcode, and - presto! - all the pertinent info is logged. Awesome graphs also help me see how I’m doing! Great app, and potentially a lifesaver!

After 7 months of use

Good app. I use it mainly for storage of the data and the A1c. I was also using another A1c app to cross check with that was so slow in the calculations that I finally got tired of it and now rely on Glucose Buddy.

I’ve only got about 7 months of data, but the A1c calculator has been right on.

A1c

I have use GlucoseBuddy for many years and have recommended it to many. I purchased the upgrade and am unable to see my estimated a1c. I get the message I need more than 9 entries. I have more than 200 entries and since I purchased the upgrade I have more the 20 entries. How many entries do I need to see the estimated a1c.

Make it easy for me

GlucoseBuddy it's a life saver, I been logging my sugar numbers, since I was diagnosed with diabetes. This is a life saver to me, I recommend GlucoseBuddy to anyone who suffers with diabetes and blood pressure, I love GlucoseBuddy! I want to thank the developer off Glucose Buddy for thinking off people who suffered with diabetics. Thank you again!!! God Bless you

4 Years and still going!

I love using this Glucose Buddy app to monitor my food intake and carbs… I was able to hook it up with my phone to also monitor my step count. The paid version is worth it if you want more functionality like monitoring your A1C.
