What the heck. This app has given me a place to go and be supported because literally no one close to me struggles with what I do. I have multiple chronic illnesses that lead to 3am bathroom breakdowns because I can’t move off the floor because of how dizzy and nauseous I am. This app has given me a place to vent about when that’s happening to try and distract myself and get some support and non-harmful release at 3am when all my friends are sleeping. This app has saved my life on multiple occasions and multiple users have talked me out of s*lf h*rm*ng because of how upset I get about not being able to find any acting jobs near me. If you had to change the minimum age to work with Europe’s new laws, that’s understandable. But instead of deleting and restricting hundreds of thousands of people from sometimes their ONLY support mechanism, maybe you should’ve adding a feature to ask if TalkLife can access your location in order to make sure you’re above minimum age for those country’s laws. Now you’ve taken away pretty much my only dang support system because you had to change your WHOLE policy for EVERYONE.

TalkLife is an app that has been shown to be a great tool for bringing together many different people across varied demographics. The anti-bullying rule seems like a good idea from the surface, although it has one absolutely critical flaw: it allows a safe space for everyone, while turning a blind eye towards straight white men in DIRE need of a safe space where solidarity within their own identity is accepted and self worth is encouraged within a world where they have been led to believe that they are the definition of evil at birth. If you try looking up “straight white men” on the app, you will find that the vast majority of posts involve men who are seeking help ending up bullied and without respite. This does absolutely nothing other than further harm and destroy the minds of these men, driving them further and further into isolation, underhandedly contributing to acts of mass violence portrayed by straight white men, perpetuating the cycle. This app needs fixed.

So, I downloaded this app as a psych student trying to use my knowledge in the field to help give advice to people who need it the most. The apps ideas and layout are great. I think it’s a solid app. However, there are some BIG issues. For instance glitches where you suddenly can’t post pictures or post and posts at all. Every time you click the button it just spins and doesn’t do anything and same for other things. I think this defeats the purpose of the app itself. I am actually in IT for a big university and so I tried some tricks of mine. None of these fixed these issues which makes me feel like these are some bigger issues with the app and can’t be fixed by logging back in and out. FIXING THESE ISSUES WILL MAKE A GREAT APP THAT WILL BE DESERVING OF FIVE STARS. Until then, it’s only worth one star.
