Freezes on startup on my iPad Pro.

Not full resolution

Terribly overpriced and overrated.

Essentially, Noir is a vignette manipulation app. It offers 6 preconfigured vignette modes. Each has a slightly different color or tone all with a vintage feel.

Once you've chosen a vignette mode, you can place the vignette wherever you like and expand or contract it. You are limited to an oval vignette profile.

Other then vignette size, you can only make three modifications to your image, contrast inside the vignette oval, contrast outside, and overall contrast.

No independent white or black levels, no ability to add grain. These basic features are strangely missing from an app billed as a "black and white" powerhouse.

Ultimately, if you're looking for a monochrome app, you'll get broader tools in most other apps, including free apps.

The worst part is that Noir does not save images at full resolution. Max res is 3m. Nowhere in the description is this listed.

Crashes when saving after edits!

At first NoirPhoto wouldn't crash, now all of a sudden, after editing a photo, NoirPhoto crashes when SAVING the photo.

Fix this this!

Full Res??

PLEASE... give us full, original image resolution output. Great app but too limited! 5 stars when this function is restored.

Poor output quality?

I like NoirPhoto , but the quality of the saved photos is poor. They look grainy in comparison to the originals. Not sure what's up with that.

It would be nice to have a saturation control to give you the option of black and white or color. However, since that is not currently an option, what I do is take the picture that is saved and use it as an overlay mask in one of my other photo retouching apps to get the effect I am looking for.

A good start

I like NoirPhoto. The controls are fast, easy to use, and provide a useful toolset to manipulate images. As others have mentioned, it would be helpful to have the ability to choose more tint options. The current list is limited. my main issue is the output quality. The final images seem excessively grainy with obviously digital artifacting. Maybe I'm missing a setting, but I'd hesitate to use the final images as a background on my iPad, much less print them or use them for anything with a higher resolution. It would be wonderful if the final output could be smoother.

Nothing special when compared to other apps

I purchased NoirPhoto today after reading many great reviews. I have purchased many photo editing apps and use them on a regular basis. The best editing apps are those with a wide range of "looks" that allow user customization. Well, Noir hits on one some limited area in photo editing with some degree of user customization. It does what it does with some average results. There's simply not enough here to keep me coming back to NoirPhoto for my photos. I can get similar results with Camera+, Camera Genius, Picture Show, Photo Wizard, Plastic Bullet, 100 Cameras in 1, or many others, and these other apps offer so much more. Can't seem to get too exicted about the "looks" in NoirPhoto. It's just ok.

Great app, lacking a couple key features

This has quickly turned into one of my favorite photo apps. However, there should be a couple additions before it earns 5 stars. Social network sharing for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. There should also be a built in camera so you don't have to use two apps to take one photo. Better UI design would be a plus too. Keep up the good work!

Excellent Results

NoirPhoto produces some excellent results. It's a specialty app, so bad reviews for not providing functions outside of this specialty should be taken with a grain of salt. True, there's room for improvements - the ability to add multiple "points of inclusion" would be great, as well as the ability to use the color picker rather than just the four presets.

Doesn't actually work

This is a great concept. NoirPhoto has a simple and intuitive layout. The effect produced is very nice, quick and easy to modify.
Too bad it doesn't actually work.
I've tried reinstalling, and after multiple attempts, it hasn't saved my image yet.
I don't want my money back, I just want the thing to work. Gosh.
I'm running an iPad mini second generation, with retina display and 64 bit processor. The hardware cannot be the issue, as everything else works just fine.

Thanks for updates

Have always loved NoirPhoto. My b&w photos benefit greatly. Thanks for recent updates and bug fixes. Much improved.

Great App in need of Update to iOS 14

The simplicity of this interface and subtly of the results are what keep NoirPhoto among my favorites. Since the iOS 14 it’s become a bit unreliable and bugy. Any plans for an update?

Update!!

Please update NoirPhoto, it’s one of the best b/w on NoirPhoto Store

Bringing out the foreground from the background.

I have been using NoirPhoto for quite a few years now I’m assuming some people would say I already have her black and white setting but there’s a difference and it’s really easy to use the three wheels gets a look at your rating for cursor many times the other picture app do you not let you easily give your black-and-white photo some depth without theirs the photos are simply flat.

Simple to use - Great Results

NoirPhoto rocks

Fun and amazing results.

Playing with the vignettes is so fun. This is my favorite black & white app

I use it every day. Literally.

NoirPhoto is so incredible, yet so simple and easy to use. It gives you amazing control over the contrast and allows you to create vignettes or hotspots, burn out a sky to give it a deeper look, and add a sepia tone or really any color you'd like. NoirPhoto can take a landscape photo taken with an iPhone and make it look like an Ansel Adams photograph. I could not praise NoirPhoto enough. If you love black and white photography, it's worth every penny.

Best photo app out there!

I love NoirPhoto, it is my "go-to" photo app for the iPhone. Noir captures and adds dramatic elements, allowing you to lighten, darken, and highlight the area of the photo you want emphasized.

I literally use it daily, and the photos I use it on get rave responses from who I share them with.

Bottom line - get NoirPhoto. Not only will you not be disappointed, but you will love it!

Very cool

Amazing lighting effects at your fingertips. No need for expensive studio lighting with NoirPhoto. Also gives iPhone X something to worry about. A lot more control in NoirPhoto.

My favorite for B&W

I’ve had NoirPhoto since my ipod Touch if memory serves me. It’s my go to for B&W conversion. Generally, when I have a chance to take pictures, I have to settle for the time and circumstances available. Lots of things are beyond my control. That’s why i like NoirPhoto. I gain some semblance of control over how the picture will become B&W. You don't just pick from a group of samples and your done. You adjust the ellipse to the size and shape you want and where it covers the picture which will be the lighter area (outside the ellipse will be darker). And those are parameters you set. You also get to set the contrast level. It may not sound like much but it allows you to work the picture how you want it and the way the picture warrants. I love the inky blacks attainable while getting wonderful grays as well. When done just right, I feel as if I could enter the picture. They pop and it’s incredibly satisfying.
