The Democratization of Wine

I discovered this app during COVID-19 and it has been a fun distraction and activity. It provides an organized way to document your wine tasting notes. I love the discovery and ability to order new wines that I would probably not be able to find locally.

One thing that bugs me is the 5 star scale is really a 3-5 star scale so it makes it a bit harder to differentiate between ratings. A 2.5* wine is pretty poor. I almost never see a wine below 2.5*. There are tons of wines in the 3.5-4.0* range. Don’t be afraid to try wines in the 3-3.5 range! Just because they aren’t rated as “exceptional” doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy it and you can always learn more about your wine palate with every new taste!

My favorite parts of Vivino - Reading the tasting notes from more experienced wine tasters. It’s also very exciting to be at the store and scan well reviewed wines (4*+) in your price range and then seeing that those pricey bottles aren’t always worth your money!

Almost Perfect

I’ve used a few Wine Scanners/Wine Tracker type of apps. As a Wine Scanner Vivino is a hands down five stars. It fines 99% of wines and if it can find it there is the ability for them to do a manual search and report back to you in Vivino . You get ratings from normal people and the community is big enough where people leave precise reviews of the wine. Their wine education function is very good for beginners that gives them grape/location/style and sometimes producer information. Plus it has challenges that can increase your knowledge as well.

Where Vivino falls short is it’s wine tracker/cellar functions. I would like the ability to share my cellar like it allows you to share your wishlist. Because I’m using it as a cellar tracker I would like to have more filters like by price, drink by date if I’ve entered that information, year of purchase, vintage things of that nature. Also you have the ability to add locations if Vivino can’t find them but not the ability to edit or delete. I have like two or three versions of the same location maybe because it was spelled wrong or wrong url.

Conclusion: best wine app on the market and I would pay not only for this version but for a pro version of I received more functionality.

Great App for personal use, don’t use to buy wine!

Vivino itself is a great companion for wine lovers. The only issue I’ll work you about is purchasing through the application. I ordered six bottles of a 2015 Napa cab using the purchasing function in the application. You’re purchasing from a third party shop that uses Vivino as a method to simplify ordering, and glyph can use Apple Pay to check out. Seems convenient, right? Unfortunately what I received was another vintage of the same wine, the 2016. The profile was totally different. Contacting this app, they initially claimed that I selected that substitutions were permitted. Going back through Vivino (I invite you to do this) there is no such checkbox or option when using ApplePay. I sent them multiple screenshots of the checkout process to show there was no choice regarding “vintage substations allowed”. this app customer support said that the merchant had a copy of the receipt that showed substitutions were allowed and that they had to follow the merchants return policy which required i pay for shipping back and a 15% restocking fee. I mean, if your app screwed up and failed to give me the heads up about a material aspect of the purchasing process shouldn’t you have some accountability? Apparently not. So, be warned, if you buy wine, at least using Apple Pay, your vintage can be substituted without your approval and this app will not do anything to help you. DO NOT PURCHASE THROUGH THEM.

Great app

Please change the list of all regional styles shown by tapping on “you’ve rated
... of ... styles” in a way that each country list is collapsed (only first items shown), and could be expanded - like it was in earlier versions before introducing this “taste profile”. Current long / non-collapsed list is useless! Also please return back to this list nice round visual counters shown per each style - instead of non readable numbers as plain text.
Just look at this app 8.16 and UX relayed to regional styles. It’s just always one tap to get to the necessary info - instead of current folders-like structure with dozens of tab. For example, to see my rates per style I need: tap on taste profile, wait for it to load, tap on styles you tried, tap on “you’ve rated ...” to see the full list, scroll dozens of lines, tap on style. If I tap on style from wine details, I need one more tap on amount of ratings in the style. This is terrible UX comparing to previous versions.
One more “nice” example of new UI. If I tap on any style in the full list of styles to see details and then return back to the list. App doesn’t remember my position in the list so I have to scroll this huuuge list again and again. So painful.

GREAT for wine identification and tracking, NOT GOOD for cellar managment.

I find this app to be an excellent application for identifying and tracking wines. It’s wine label photo-identification technology is first rate as it quickly allows access to community ratings and tasting notes. The Ecommerce marketplace is also a great feature which allows access to many suppliers who have up to date inventories to select from.

In my opinion the application has 4 weaknesses. 1/ The application doesn’t allow you to share access to your cellar, so if you live in the same house only one person can keep it up to date. This is a real issue if you use the cellar feature as you will quickly go out of date if other people in the house buy and consume your wine. 2/ There is no capability to visually track/organize your cellar. 3/ Vivino doesn’t make recommendations on what wine is best drinkable - and when it is likely to expire. 4/ The searching function for friends is really poorly engineered - most times it pulls up many erroneous names even when you have specifically used distinctive names.

I would give Vivino 1 more star if they added any of the above features.

Love the app, but needs better ways to connect with others

I have been using Vivino for a few years now and won’t enter a liquor store nor order a bottle of wine at a restaurant without it. Vivino is not only super useful, but it’s also crazy smart. The label scanning capabilities are spot on, even if your photo is not perfect, it tends to always find the bottle in 1-2 second. My biggest complaint is that I cannot share it with others easily. Unless people are connecting with me on Facebook, I cannot easily share a link asking others to join. This application really needs either an incentive to get more people using it, or needs to find a way for loyal fans to get their friends connected. Please add a feature with links that can be shared, this will allow myself to connect with others around me better. Aside from that, this is one of the application I use on a weekly basis and wouldn’t leave home without. If they fix the connection issue, I see this application finally blowing up and would revise to 5 stars in a heartbeat.

Good app but too many mistakes with orders

I’ve been a this app member for a while already. They offer good selections of wines and usually good prices and deals.
However, it can get upsetting ordering through them. Vintage substitutions (yes, you order 2015 and they send you 2016 or 2021 because supposedly you marked a non existing box allowing that through the checkout process), mismatches and mistakes. The last one was already too much for me. They were advertising a wine por $30 I liked, usually more expensive, and ordered 3 bottles. When I picked up the package, what do I see? 3 bottles of a different wine. I reached out the customer service and their explanation was: “It was a mismatch. The wine you wanted is more expensive and since you paid $30 per bottle they sent you this other one”. Good job guys, terrific. You pay a shirt and you get some socks and still they make it sound as if it’d have been your mistake. It took weeks to solve this, I had to print labels, return the package, and wait for a refund. It was very disappointing and such a waste of time. Communication has worsened a lot and now it takes them a week or more to answer emails. So if you actually have an issue with them just prepare to wait.

Finally! The (almost) perfect wine tracking tool!

I’ve been looking for a while now and have downloaded/tried at least a dozen apps to track, log, and journal wine purchases & tastings notes. So many apps have one or more great features but are always lacking something or they have functional issues. When I finally found the “personal note” feature for non public review comments (although a bit hidden), it rendered Vivino 98% perfect!! (The only missing “need” is the ability to add 2nd -or more- photos for the back label. A custom sort field would also be nice, but not as critical as the pictures.)

Although the search & buy features are nice, I especially like how Vivino gives so many side info links for the varietal, wine maker, and community tasting notes.

Since I’m trying to learn how to be a better taster and more articulate in describing wines, this will really help to learn and keep a journal on precious wines tried.

Easy and Convenient app to inventory your cellar.

A wine loving friend recommended this app to me, and I haven't been disappointed. It is very easy to use your phone's camera to snap a wine bottle label. Then "Viola'", it brings up your wine, reviews both professional and crowd-sourced, and pricing. Once or twice it couldn't find a bottle from the photo, but I could search using keywords as well. Also allows you to correct vintages and varietals for accuracy. I use Vivino to add bottles to my cellar inventory, and to remove them from inventory when drinking or gifting. I use my ratings only for myself, to help remember which wines I did and didn't like. My ratings are shared with others across the site, even though I do not consider myself knowledgeable enough to be a wine critic.
It also helps categorize my wines (tasted and reviewed by me, or cellared) by region and by varietal. I find this helpful to round out my cellar.
I would recommend Vivino highly to anyone interested in wine.

Too many wine clubs?

I’ve honestly never written a review for an app before, but I feel like I must with this one. My friends have spoken about the this app for years when they find a wine they like at a restaurant and then they want to buy it at the store. Or when they go to the store to look at the walls of wine and who knows if you are wasting your money on a bottle of wine until you get home to drink it? this app has fixed all of that for us. And then some.

After our third trip to Napa Valley and the wine clubs that we have joined over the years, and the wine that is accumulating in my cellar, I realized that we didn’t even know what we had anymore. this app has fixed all of that. I love to use that while shopping for wine right in my own cellar. I know what I have and I can take it out of my virtual cellar after we have enjoyed it. Best yet is that if I like it and I want to buy more of it, it doesn’t just disappear from my list. It is still there with all of my details so that I can purchase more to enjoy at a later date.

Thanks for this app.

There is one glitch in the latest release-when you add a wine to your cellar no matter what date you entered, Vivino reverts back to today’s date. You have to go back in and edit the entry and change the date and then it saves the second time. Something for your developers to fix please.

Pretty close here...

this app is doing a lot right here both in terms of allowing you to track what you have had and what you are keeping in your “cellar” - they also understand that that word means different things to different people. There is no trendy “anti-snob” marketing, and there is no “we can teach you more” pretense - track, buy if you want, and enjoy the social aspect to it as well. That said, they are very behind in appellations and regional categories and that makes the analytics difficult to respect. I would like to see by grape, by region, by specific regional locations, by price, by ratings, but they lump everything that isn't, say Napa Cabernet, for example, together as California Cabernet. Tell that to Sonoma and their regions like Alexander Valley or Russian River! Same in many international areas and they have not scratched the surface of areas like Virginia or the Finger Lakes or Canada. Hopefully they put some dev dollars into this soon, but for now it is still well worth it and beats the competitors, I think.

Very good app, difficult wine delivery

I enjoy Vivino , especially the different components of the wine identified as a graph. My wife and I determined our taste profiles by looking at the profiles of wine we preferred, and often use the profile in identifying new wines to try.
Purchasing has proven to be difficult. The deals on wines that I have purchased in the past are very good. The expected delivery times are so wide I have not ordered wine because I was not sure I would be available for pickup under worse case delivery window. My current order I have being delivered to an address I would be at during the site delivery window. I ordered on a Tuesday, with an expected delivery the following week (Monday-Friday). Just received a notice delivery will be Thursday of this week.
Other sites do much better identifying expected ship date and delivery date.

Great Way to Get into Wine

this app’s best features are 1) it’s rating system and 2) it’s personalized “tasting profile.” Both of these tools help break down the often daunting world of wine into digestible categories. The rating system allows you to see which wines other people have liked, rating each wine on a scale of 1 to 5. While not a perfect rating system with clear biases, it makes an otherwise daunting wall of wine at the store into an approachable set of data. The “tasting profile” then collects are your personal ratings and compiles into region, grape, and style, so you can see which regions, grapes, and styles you enjoy drinking. This makes it easier to understand and keep track of what type of wine you like to drink. So, when you enter a wine store, you can skip over the types of wines you don’t like and focus on the types you do.

Excellent Resource

Ever feel intimidated going into a liquor store that has a limitless selection of wine? I’ll tell you right now, I have. Vivino helps educate you on different wines, what to taste, what to pay, and its average rating. My favorite feature, you can scan wine bottles to see if it is a good wine compared to the ones next to it. You can see what the experts rate it, and what the average consumer thinks of it. After you drink some, you can tell the world what you thought of it which can help someone like me consider buying it. When you are in a restaurant, you can log in that one wine you absolutely adored with your steak. This is one of my favorite apps on my iPhone... period. I recommend it to anyone who has any interest of wine or simply want to impress your friends and family with picking that special wine for a dinner or just to sip by a fire. Give it a whirl, cheers!

Convenient, Informative, Fun!

This is a great tool for the wine enthusiast and then casual buyer alike. So easy! Snap a photo of a bottle’s label while browsing at your favorite retailer and get tons of information regarding the varietal. You receive winery specific-region-global ranking comparisons, ratings, reviews, similar wines and much more fun and valuable info. Vivino allows you to maintain a history of the wines you’ve scanned, learns your preferences over time and will follow up (via email) with deals on wines that are likely to interest you. Thanks to this app I Have discovered and purchased a number of wines (originating from across the World) that I likely never would have purchased, or even been aware of (and I live less than an hour from the California Napa-Sonoma Wine Country). this app is one of my favorite apps and I use it at least weekly!

Zero stars - Don’t buy wine from them

Ordered two bottles on September 23rd, received email that they shipped on October 8, with a FedEx Tracking number that has only said pending since then. Today, Nov 1st, my order status says that the wine was delivered. Over the course of the last two months, I’ve emails them about the status of my order three times, with not respond. I’ve waited for a chat several times, usual result is I start out number 2 in line and then magically go back in line and never get a chat. I’ve ordered wine from dozens of other places and never had an issue. this app not only can’t deliver a bottle of wine, there is absolutely no way to reach them. To start with, the vintage I clicked on to order switched to a different year without telling me or giving me an option to cancel, but I decided to go ahead anyway. So app cheats you to be gone with on your order, then they never send the wine, but just check it off as if they did and leave you no way to contact them. I think the correct term for this business mode is SCAM.

Lost all saved wines - Updated, they were retrieved

Update: After they corrected the wrong support address they posted, I was able to request help and eventually my wine list was restored! Their support was better than I would have expected.
Temporarily lost wine list aside, Vivino is good but not great. The primary problem is that a lot of wines are missing, and there are times where there are two seemingly identical listings for the same wine. However, it's the best app of this kind that I've found.

I used Vivino for years, for one reason: to catalog the wines I drank and record what I thought of them. After one of the recent updates, I discovered my entire list was gone! I've tried logging in in case they were tied to an email account, but none of my email addresses are recognized. And worst of all, the support address they provide in Vivino description doesn't work; mail to it bounces back.

Unhappy

I was looking forward to what Vivino had to offer, but my first experience simply purchasing means it will be will my last use of Vivino. Completely poor email communication, confusing shipping promises (“will arrive by end of 4/23” and now that the date is come and gone, it says simply “shipping label created”). I contacted them about a shipping date and have heard nothing. I understand the current environment, but I’ve interacted with dozens of other retailers who are much more responsive under the same circumstances. At least tell me you got my communication and will get back to me.

It was more than a week from my order before my card was charged and I still have no idea if I am even getting what I ordered. I could have gotten this wine much faster from other sources and with less frustration in the period from which I placed this order and still have nothing.

I see how quickly responsive this app is to bad reviews here. I wish they put that kind of effort into their other communications.

WrWrong wine shipped and a week later no response from customer service

I ordered a wine that was listed as a Nero D’Avola /Cab blend (which I had before). The website listed it as a Nero/Cab blend. When my case of wine arrived I noticed it was a Nero/Merlot blend which is not what was on the website and not what I ordered. I contated customer service 2 hours after it arrived and explained the issue. They said they would get back to me. 3 days later with no answer I called and spoke to someone. The said they would get back to me. To date almost a week later I have not heard from them. They have now changed the website to show this wine as a Nero/merlot blend. But I have pictures of the original listing. I would think they could figure it out in a week and get back to me. It seems to me that they thought I was working for them to correct their website even though I told them my wine was not what I ordered. I should call my credit card company and get the payment back. I guess I’ll have to call a third time.

One of my favorite apps.

I absolutely love using this app! It’s incredibly easy to use and so well-organized. 99% of the wines I scan are instantly recognized. When it’s a wine not in the database (quite rare), it’s easy to add it for all to use. I can keep track of everything I’ve tasted at home and anywhere. I can pick wines based on the flavor profiles, and also look them up while shopping. I enjoy reading other people’s experiences with the same wine, and add my own experience. And Vivino also recommends and sells wines as well, usually at very good prices. It’s one of the most organized and useful apps I have. If you drink wine even a few times per year, this app recommends, logs, and educates you about every type of wine.

Very versatile

I love Vivino because the scanner feature makes it so easy to add bottles to the list, and also because it let’s you download an Excel format file of your wine list. In the downloaded file I add info onto each line as to where the bottle is kept in my collection. This allows me to use a simpler location system than the structured approaches in other apps. (You need to know a little Excel and it takes some effort to assign this info to later downloads, so I wish I could upload my edited file back to the this app cloud). Other wish is that they would show % mix of each grape for each bottle; this info helps a lot for choosing wines for serving and food pairing. But it’s the best, easiest app I’ve found.

Best app for wine lovers who want to learn and save

I absolutely love Vivino. I’m always a little weary as to whether or not I’m getting not only the right bottle of wine, but the best true to retail value. So what I do is snap a photo of a bottle that I may be interested in at the market and Vivino tells me what the average retail price is and based on that I compare it to the price listed right in front of me. It’s always so accurate. Vivino also helps me when I’m out at a restaurant and I want to make sure I’m not getting ripped off when ordering a bottle of wine. You’d be surprised how often a restaurant will sell a $10 bottle of wine for well over $50. If you’re a wine lover and want to be a smart wine consumer, you need Vivino.

Hands down, one of the most useful apps I have!

I absolutely ADORE Vivino for so many reasons. Gone are the days of picking up an unfamiliar bottle of wine in an attempt to go “outside of the box,” only to be regretfully let down. The ability to scan and pull up details and reviews of ‘that’ exact wine (down to the year!) within a couple of seconds is straight up awesome. I also love how it saves the wines I scan so I can go back and either rate or at least remember which particular wines I was looking at, what I liked/didn’t like, etc.. Not to mention, it’s FREE! Seriously, people. If you like wine or are simply trying to get into it a little more, look no further. this app is Vivino

One of the best Apps I’ve ever used.

I don’t write reviews for apps, but felt Vivino deserve a few minutes of my time. Hands down one of the best apps I’ve every used. The user interface and experience is great. Could have a few improvements in some areas, but what can’t. The problem Vivino solves, its primary use, and intent is exceptional. Not to mention it’s customer focus and support. An example, I noticed an identification error and submitted it for manual review. In less than 24 hours it was corrected. 🤯

Vivino continues to impress me and my friends when I use it or explain a capability they didn’t know exist. I continually recommend it to my friends.

Keep it up!!!!

Filtering Feature

I REALLY love Vivino. I think my only issue/complaint would be it lacking the ability to filter based on my star ratings. Right now, you can sort based on Avg user rating, or sort on my best rated. I constantly want to go back and compare wines I gave a specific rating, but I'm unable to filter, on say, my 3-star rated wines. I have to sort based on my rating and then scroll for a while. This becomes more problematic the more wines I rate. Other than that, I love Vivino . It's great for following other reviews, cataloguing wines I want to try in the future, learning about particular wines, and storing my personal preferences and ratings on wines I've tried. I've even purchased from Vivino and had a very positive experience.

Indispensable Wine Tool

I have been using this app for more than a year now and it is firmly integrated into my wine drinking and wine purchasing. It has become the indispensable partner to my wine enjoyment and education. More than just a community rating system, the Vino allows me to track every wine I taste. That cheap and sure for reception wine passed by a caterers assistant? Zapit and look it up later. At a winery doing a complex flight of tastings? Keep track of it all and record your notes in a flash. Importantly, have fond memories of wine for a faraway trip and need to add a bottle to satisfy a craving? The Vino can do that too. And you might just get free shipping. Five out of five would do again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

4.5/5 Stars

Absolutely incredible app with very few flaws and bugs. The ability to take a picture of a wine list and to see each wine’s rating immediately is astounding. I found it difficult to find any issues with Vivino but the only glaring one that made me rate it 4 stars was the five star rating system. Rating by .5 star increments on a five star scale is too vague for my and my friends/family’s tastes and Vivino would be better served with a more exact measurement of .1 star increments or, if the .5 star increment system was to be retained, a 10 star rating to offer a larger variation in ratings and a ratings system. This would fit people with more specific criticisms and/or praises of a wine. Aside from this, a wonderful app!

App opens but my profile flashes in and then disappears. I don’t want to delete the app and reload I’m afraid the data will be lost. I have iOS 13 and vivino has access to my camera.
