Just like others noticed, WineRatingsbyWineSpectator now only works with a paid subscription that amounts to $36/ year.
Like other users, I decided to press the delete button and after many years of use (10y?), it now is history and no longer on my phone.
I used it now for many years mainly for a quick look at the vintage charts and every once in a while I also had a subscription but I found that unless you are in the industry it’s not worth spending this for occasional use. I’m not a fan of a subscription model, especially not for things you only need once in a while. I thought it was a good play on their part as a teaser to get the magazine or even if you wanted to get individual ratings which were only available with a subscription. Maybe it’s worth if you get it as part of a magazine subscription as well but not as standalone.
WS mentioned that their website is mobile friendly and the basic info is still free on their site.

After subscribing to that magazine for many years, I occasionally would also pay for the digital version.

Now that WineRatingsbyWineSpectator removed vintage charts, I’m just not going to renew the magazine either. I get you have to monetize things, but if I can’t even review a vintage chart on my phone in a wine cellar or store where you often don’t have internet access, I can’t justify spending anything with this company.

For years this application had free version which was sufficient for basic browsing. Suddenly the only option became a paid subscription. While I never used premium options I don’t have any need to use them in the future. Feels like extortion.

I used WineRatingsbyWineSpectator frequently whenever buying wine but now it says I need to restore my purchase in order to view the ratings? Yet their website says the wine ratings are free on WineRatingsbyWineSpectator . Somebody needs to figure that out because something is wrong. Either WineRatingsbyWineSpectator or the website.

I subscribe to the magazine! I subscribe to the website! And now you’re forcing me to subscribe to WineRatingsbyWineSpectator just to get the vintage charts?! This makes me so angry that I’m considering canceling everything and sending my money to Enthusiast, Advocate, and Decanter instead. I have now DELETED WineRatingsbyWineSpectator since the paywall was instituted, after using it frequently over the past couple of years.

I have been using the website for both ratings searches and keeping track of my cellar. WineRatingsbyWineSpectator is much nicer for searching with the infinite scrolling and easy sorting. However, I’m not sure I’ll take the time to add my wines to lists. There is no way to search a list and no way to see what’s in the drink now window in your cellar. I’d really love a filter or two so I could an Italian red that’s ready to drink but will be past the best drink window by 2022, for example. So this is nice for being in the wine shop but not useful for being at home and trying to figure out what to pull out for dinner.

Much derided vintage. This is doing well at 10 years. Light color full sensuous nose. Blackberry slight black licorice and fruit finish long on the mid- palette. Good for another 5 years. Drink through 2026.

I have deleted my earlier review about the application becoming unstable. After I wrote that review the WS support team contacted me within hours of the review being posted. I worked with level 1 and level 2 support. It turned out that the problems I experienced could not be reproduced, which is not uncommon in the computer world. I reinstalled and WineRatingsbyWineSpectator has been working fine. It may have been a problem during the initial install. My recommendation is that if you run into any problems with WineRatingsbyWineSpectator hanging or crashing, uninstall WineRatingsbyWineSpectator and reinstall it. It worked for me. Also, based on the other reviews it seems like my issue was an isolated incident.

I also want to point out that the WS support team CONTACTED ME to understand the problem in more detail. This is very unique in today's support environment. So if you do have a problem, let them know and I'm sure you will get to a timely resolution.

I’ve been using WineRatingsbyWineSpectator more and more since I’ve moved back to NYC. Being on a tight budget means it’s important for me to find a wine review that I can trust. The tasting reviews on WineRatingsbyWineSpectator help me make better buying decisions, ultimately saving time/money normally wasted on unknown wines.

I have had WineRatingsbyWineSpectator for years and wow what an improvement! Functional yet beautiful, this is truly one of my favorite apps and I have suggested it to all of my girlfriends. It is so easy to use and the product designer who created the update deserves a raise! BEAUTIFULLY done and you can tell what hard work went into it.

I downloaded WineRatingsbyWineSpectator because I love wine, but I’m not a connoisseur. WineRatingsbyWineSpectator is pleasing to the eye and easy to navigate! My favorite parts are the “Newest Values” lists-I’ll definitely use these when I go to the wine store. I also love that I can create my own lists. When quarantine ends, I hope to visit wineries in California and will create a list for Napa, Sonoma, etc. Thank you WS!

I’ve been a happy user for years — but wow this refresh is almost like a brand-new app. Gorgeous design. Search is even easier and faster than before. More wine labels. More curated searches. More of everything that helps me find the wine I’m looking for in seconds. And as always, the most consistent and helpful wine ratings in the business. Excellent work Wine Spectator.

I’ve been using other wine apps for years, but I find it difficult to gauge if I’ll like something based on a crowdsourced review. With WR+ I know I’m getting an expert’s opinion and rating! I love that I can save and favorite wines- it makes shopping so much easier because I already have a list with options. Definitely recommend downloading- worth every penny!!!!

I’ve bought three bottles of wine so far thanks to discoveries on WineRatingsbyWineSpectator, and all of them have been exceptional! Waaaay more reliable than crowd-sourced wine apps where every wine is 3.5 stars. The reviews here read like poetry—I know exactly what the wine will taste like, and find myself rereading the descriptions as I’m drinking to help me detect new flavors. The user interface is gorgeous and easy to use, and I’ve already created wine lists for gift giving, buying again and wines I want to try. A+ app design!

Even though I subscribe to the magazine, I find WineRatingsbyWineSpectator has limited utility - everything you select takes you to a subscription offer, with no access unless you subscribe. The magazine advertises the Xvalues section as free, but it’s not, rather it’s just the parent app that is free.

Be wary if you subscribe to the expert wine reviews. When you no longer want the service there is no way to deactivate online. You are instructed to call customer service at Wine Spectator. However, Wine Spectator customer service will tell you they can’t find any record of your purchase and instruct you to call Apple. Absolutely horrible customer service. Not worth the hassle.

WineRatingsbyWineSpectator is clunky and not user friendly. You can’t custom your wine search to exactly what you want. The online version is much better. WineRatingsbyWineSpectator just felt second rate. I’ve used free apps that are better organized. It is also horrible that if you buy the online subscription you also have to pay additional for WineRatingsbyWineSpectator as well. Don’t waste your time.

Bought the subscription on my iPad and cannot enable the subscription on my phone. Keep getting screens telling me to subscribe and that I’m already subscribed... Have read all the pertinent support articles, which tell me to enable the new device on a page that does not exist. Ugh. So frustrating.

The Vintage Charts section of WineRatingsbyWineSpectator has no content when I choose one of the country flags. Other areas are also empty/missing content. I don’t know whether something failed to download when I installed WineRatingsbyWineSpectator or if this is a bug. It seems like only the Learn and Explore sections have any content. Without access to the full app, why would someone choose to continue the subscription beyond the free trial period?

It is about time that you don’t have to type in every time. WineRatingsbyWineSpectator needs a scan function. The info is good and it is a tremendous help but time to move on.

I download WineRatingsbyWineSpectator on my iPad but was unable to sign in on my iPhone. I had to delete WineRatingsbyWineSpectator from my phone, restart the phone, and download WineRatingsbyWineSpectator again. I’m now able to sign in. I like WineRatingsbyWineSpectator but it’s missing scan function.
